Years and years of poor player investment has come to roost. This is the cumulation of buying base bargain players. Whatever they saved then will be lost to dwindling revenues as sponsors fold their tents. |
kettykin:There will be none left to govern Nigeria. Even Aso Rock will be empty. Be careful what you wish for. |
colestephan86:True. Was a classic. Still is. Impeccable build. After that it was a bit of a decline for Daimler. Others caught up. |
Jimi24:Of course to you it is 'maybe' because you know nothing of what government does courtesy of an autocratic system. You can only speculate. In better climes the people know exactly what every penny of government is meant to do. That is where it is coming from and where it is going. But the average Nigerian can only speculate and 'trust'. We are the only nation on earth that 'trusts' its politicians and to have that trust despite serial betrayals is tantamount to nothing but criminal negligence. The results are clear. Poverty capital of the world for the sixth or seventh straight year. |
contigiency:Now that you have a 'co-operating Legislature', can you show in clear, detailed terms the benefits accrued to Nigeria in the past six months. What can we say is the positive achievement that will not have been possible previously. Because I cannot remember what this President wanted to do for himself under the past dispensation that he didn't do. But instead things like electoral reforms which should be to the benefit of all Nigerians is still not done half a year after the elections. So it doesn't take the deduction of a rocket scientist to see that a rubber stamp legislature is just to legalise unpopular government programs and block popular ones while permitting personal gains for all those in government. Just take a look at the popular bills in public discourse today. Nothing for the people. All to protect and extend the powers of government. Whether you like it or not, all advancing democracies have an active, vociferous parliament. You can imagine if the United Stayes didn't have Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats to check Trump. You can imagine if the United Kingdom didn't have the Labour and Liberal parties to check the Conservatives. Nigeria will simply not develop under this arrangement because the ideas generated through debate, the understanding generated through discourse will never be possible. We are in afull blown autocracy and you know it. |
Previously when Executive Budgets were augmented it was blamed on opposition Representatives. Now that all the President's men are in charge of the House why is it 'business as usual'. What has changed however is that we will no longer have the 'fights' that preceed revelations of the happenings in government. Not that underhand deals will vanish, just that they will become legal. Afterall in terms of the law that pursues graft if any monies is legally appropriated there is no corruption, even though in the court of public opinion represented by a true Legislature such appropriations are tantamount to criminality. For example why is it that no voice has been raised about the runaway subsidies legally appropriated despite the fact that we know oil prices are relatively low and consumption should be at an all time low judging by poor economic indices, depressed capital expenditure and structural reforms along the hitherto porous borders. I donot expect anyone to raise any voice to what was labelled so vociferously as budget padding during the very last and viable Legislature we had. Nothing has changed for the better. Same ol, same ol. Just legal now. The task before future presidents is simple. Get your Legislsture to cover your front and get your judiciary to cover your back and you can do very much whatsoever you like. So much for a supposedly growing democracy. |
Specilalized universities are the way to go. However I think when establishing them we should consider our critical needs and comparative advantage. To this end an institute that specialises is enerfy studies and the development of solar power would have been a lot more useful since that state is in a region that is presently energy disadvantaged but has massive opportunities of land, and climate potentials to harness that natural rrsource and really make for development of the country. I have said it for a while now, that just one state alone in the far north can supply all the electricity and green energy that Nigeria needs for the next thousand years just as it has been shown that the Sahara has the space and natural resources to supply solar energy to the entire planet and effectively replace every fire breathing turbine in the world. |
majamajic:Totally agree. If he was European or perhaps South American he would already be on the radar of clubs such as Real Madrid or Juventus, clubs that seek to dominate from the middle. Leicester once sold an asset named Kante so I don't think it will be out of place to sell Ndidi if or when the big money comes calling. |
When they say shun godfatherism you say no. You prefer empire building, feudalism and the personalisatuon of your common patrimony. Yiu sit idly by and let so called party leaders determine who governs you. This is the result. Quality of governance has continued to fall in western Nigeria the further away from true democracy they have drifted. There is no short cut to development the democracy way. It only happens by holding power in a flux. I have said it repeatedly. Democracy is not for the docile, ignorant, divisive. If the people of Ogun donot jettison the shackles of their feudal overlords like the Bayelsans have then the state will simply go down the drain, period. |
Mr. Lyon. Get to work. Work. Work. Work. |
Disgusting.... but what is my business with the new era of official, legalised, appropriated corruption. Opposition rigged into the ground. Legislature rubber stamped, civil society hate speeched and dissent DSSed. No one to fight for the world reknowned docile, divided and debilitated citizenry. When this regime is done it will take several decades to regain and semblance of development democracy was expected to deliver. |
Nonsense. We are more interested in those who will become surgeons, investment analysts, environmental engineers and great athletes. Not these meaningless, depraved exercises of antiquity that bares semblance to a cattle sale. What is the rational for a competition to determine the features created at birth to which humanity has absolutely no control over. What gives man the right to determine who is better looking than the other when he can create no one. |
Exactly what we constantly say. The disregard for institutional building, good governance and best practices while in power until they themselves become victims of it and then begin to squeal like hogs. It is an black thing, an African thing, a Nigerian thing. Zero circumspection, zero vision, zero situational awareness. That is why you hear from those in power and their fans say, 'well it has been so for 16 years...', 'what did the opposition do about it while in power', etc. Totally negating the point about democracy which is the ability to change non performance for performance or better performnce. So what do I expect. Ugly grunts and screams of Dino and Co. to high heavens while Smart lays comfy in the mud for another 4 years. Nothing changes, nothing gets better. Just changing power for the sake of it, to spread the lucre around. How do I know. Unpopular goverments have fallen recently in dramatic fashion. In Imo and Bayelsa for example. I want to challenge anyone if he or she has seen or heard anything in those climes to indicate a real or perceived gear change from 1st to 2nd. Nothing. Just a dissapointing revelry in circles like a deranged dog after its tail, the sad story of the trillions sunk in the name of democracy. Now sit back and watch the minions around me make light of their franchise and dance naked in the marketplace seeking no end to their misery. |
midnighter:Not true. Recent research suggests that alcohol has detrimental effects on the liver no matter the quantity. Also the theory about heart health and alcohol remains unproven. Those popular conclusions are not universal. Research is dynamic. Keep up to date. |
EagleSquare1:Much like you guys, I don't pick sides in arguments or champion tribal sentiments. No one on this forum can even try to imagine from which ethnic group I come from because technically speaking I have no ethnicty and absolutely find tribe and culture of no positive consequence and a serious challenge to our development. Having said that your argument in summary is that because the fulani tribe and by extension the president is being profiled we should pass laws we fully know the real purpose of which is to crack down against dissent. I want to take you up on the fact that the previous president and the peoples of the Niger-Delta have been racially profiled ever since Ken Saro Wiwa was hanged for agitation against the cruel exploitation of the resources and the peoples of that region. Did the past president call for a censorship. No he called for understanding. I will tell you that every tribe will get a mouthful in the media when the maxim in office comes from that tribe because he will play regional politics, administer nepotistically and be seen as an ethnic champion. And it has been so. The west got an ear full when OBJ was in office the degree to which he was viewed as a nationalist. If the fulani tribe is in the cross hairs it is because of perceived acts of taking undue advantage of power, nepotism, and other unpatriotic, deeply divisive acts perpetuated at the highest levels of government. It is the duty of leadership to douse these tensions not enflame them or ignore them and expect people not to speak out aggressively. Once again, leadership is all about sacrifice, the failure of which destroys society. |
NaMeAboki:Very good camoflague of your intentions until the second to the last paragraph where your punt for the President surfaces. That is where it all falls flat and gives ammunition to those who say the former president was criticised and perhaps harangued much more on social media. And yes, more ammunition to those who see this as the deepening of the personalisation of goverment. I remember then that I warned in clear terms (check my posts of 2014/2015) that the APC and its supporters were setting a precedence in the media storming of goverment that would be difficult to recover from. So here we are years down the line you want us to support laws to dismantle your own creations. First of all, laws should not be made for the protection of one individual(s) interest against the interests of the majority. Or laws made to benefit an individual against the profit of the majority. Secondly, laws should not be made after the sensibilities and tastes of individuals when viewed against the interests of the public particularly as regards tenured elected goverments. If not it may becone impossible to change such goverments whether they perform or not. Finally, the power to criticise and oppose freely is the clear distinction between democracy and autocracy. Democracy is all about holding power in a flux. The moment you begin to tinker with and counter the balance of power in favour of either side democracy begins to falter and inevitably breaks down with devastating consequences suchas we have seen in much of Africa and its underdevelopment for decades. A call to office and leadership in a democracy is not a tea party. The world over leaders come out looking spent, aged and shrivelled. It has no attraction but the passion to serve and sacrifice to drive home an ideology to better the country and her peoples. You and your President must understand that. |
Anyone expecting my comments on these issues should just do historicals. Very little to add here. Everything projected to happen is happening. Every sordid path intended is thoroughly beaten. Enjoy the country of your creation. |
Arsenal finally growing some balls (pun intended). Good move. Poch or Arteta in that order. Few else will work. |
The child doesn't know that every art has a span and an impetus and that Nigeria doesn't protect intellectual property. |
Hmmm... so that Bruce Lee era kung-fu myth is actually true... but don't ask me if the objects in question actually relocates... that I will never believe. |
ArmaniUhuru:Good traditionalist... poor biologist.... |
Deepthoughts:And Dangote sugar...anyway the more the merrier. It appears BUA is tracking down Mr. Cement himself following in every step. Could see a BUA petrochemical facility in the future. |
Abfinest007:The club is too big for that old man. Zero tactician. Dunno why they let Max go. Sarri was not a step up. Just see what Conte is doing to a once dying Internazionale. They should have gone for Jose last summer. The Champions League will remain an illusion and I am certain even the Scudetto will be lost. |
Just shows that they can never understand what democracy is all about. President Jonathan is obviously not in the same school of thought with them. When Obama campaigned for his first Presidency he clearly distanced himself from the Clinton estate because though Clinton was the defacto elder statesman of the Democratic Party the baggage of his latter time in office was such that it could prove damaging. When you recognise that democracy is all about the people sometimes you must cut out dead flesh to live. There is no reason why Goodluck would support a Dickson hegemony, or accept his godfatherism when hehimself is not acting to that script. You just wish all other states could be like this and put aside godfathers and let the will of the people to prevail. Bayelsa will indeed profit from the person, posture and position of Goodluck Jonathan in years to come. |
Flakky26:You won't be there full time? So you are what then?.... an investor or owner.... passion or just profits.... success or just another has been... your choice. But know that nothing worth while can be done part-time. You will not be able to engage the forces of excellence because you will be occupied with running battles just to stay afloat. Your business will be crafted in the image of whoever is in charge.... and you will not like it.... guaranteed. |
Flakky26:Not necessary. You are selling food not cold air. It is a restaurant not a cinema. Focus or fail. |
Can't remember when I last went out to eat. No time for that. I think the future is home/work place delivery so I suggest your investment should lean towards the kitchen rather than the shop window. Be known for what you sell rather than where it is sold and your prices will remain competitive. Remember Amazon is gunning down the high streets and this trend will eventually get to our shores. So it is all about the machines, men and menus. Get reading. |
Mr. Deputy Governor elect. You have won. Face your tasks. There is more than enough responsibility ahead and before you know it four years will be gone and you too will need to import Cambodian seers. |

As with all things in life there are advantages and diaadvantages. Just start your automobile experience with a Toyota but when you become a person of means Honda should be a better choice. Toyota is a working man's model while Honda is for those who send others on errands. |
Of course Nigerians will always support corruption. Is it not the reason why Nigeria is like this. Crass sentimentalism. Instead of keeping their distance and waiting for the full facts to emerge. They will rather risk having eggs all over their faces when they are not privy to his origins, the ways and means of his resources and the facts behind his activities. Nigerians and their love of explosive wealth. |
Tellemall:Every organisation has its rules that it fashions after its persona. That its patrons whether public or in private must conduct themselves after even in the liberal west. But it is also understandable that Nigerians are not in the know about this. Reasons why our society remains largely ungovernable and predominantly rogue. |
