Not too optimistic. Great players but not a great team. The problems surrounding the team has not enabled them reach the levels required. |
Perhaps not paying them their allowances regularly is not a catastrophe afterall. Great strategy for boxing....at least. |
He does not have the daily records of a flagship service shows there is already stealing there. Why aren't thd Chinese running it. Why?. And the first casualty of lack of record/stealing is maintenance and eventually system collapse. That service should be in private hands under concession. As to the economics, 5 million to the rail lines means 4 million out of the hands of private transporters which is not cool. What however is wonderful is the number of vehicles off the Abuja/Kaduna Highway. This translates to a few extra hours or days in the lifespan of that road and will save huge amounts in road maintenance costs. Why I say a few hours or days as opposed to months or years is that the prime factor in Nigerian road lifespan remains the heavy loading or overloading as depicted by trucks and other articulated vehicles. This is what we should be targetting first or as a priority. And the Kaduna/Abuja route has no serious cargo demand. But take a look at the Oshodi/Apapa Highway, the closer you get to the ports, the worse the roads get and are always in perpetual reconstruction, gulping billions over the years, no wonder Julius berger has a yard in that area because they see what we don't, that the road cannot be permanently fixed, ever, so they set up shop waiting like lions at the only watering hole in the savannah knowing for certainty the buffaloes will come at dusk to drink. |
FabioPeter:The guy is very good. He needs good handlers at home and a decent club abroad to become a superstar. |
Sadiq is a giraffe there. Lubbish play. |
My, Ekong is good tonight. |
Dat number 16 don late for transfer season. Except for Arsenal. Others don buy finish. |
Ekong did very well there. |
mukina2:Hi, long time. You may be able to answer this. What is it about Pep Guardiola and midgets. Left the Bundesliga to coach the Premiership team with the highest number if players under 4 feet tall. Aguero, Silva, Clichy, Navas....Brought in another midget Delph when the power house Yaya is there. Henry, Eto'o, Ibrahimovic the man no like, only midgets..... |
See as Pep dey drink water. Welcome sir to the Premiership where there is no respect for reputations. Every team is useless on the said day. |
And to think the German economy is regressing and China is static, there is little hope for oil price rises in the near to medium future to compensate for our falling exports. Tougher times ahead. |
But seriously, why can't the police help in this matter and generate revenue on the side by creating a one-stop verification and authentication shop. And what then is the point of the so called 'Police Report'. |
maasoap:What about those who lose their businesses and property to robbers, fraudsters and thieves and so on, does the military go after them using State resources. What is so special about this economic grouping. |
csamii: Hahahahaha....Airforce kwa don turn cowboys. Where my uncle wey be Commodore. Yabis dey load. I fit swear say na drone dem take find them. Chai, Nigeria. When you think it cannot get worse....then a new low . Abeg let them or make these herdsmen buy insurance. That is what reasonable people in reasonable countries do. Put the police to investigate and track down the thieves, insurance to pay for losses. Government does not go about recovering private property from thieves thoughtless of engaging the armed forces to do that. Will they recover my stolen car or coaster bus robbers hijacked from me simply because I threatened to run beserk and start killing everyone in sight driving a bus. Anyone supporting this bizzare turn of events should answer me, honestly. |
holluphemydavid: Yeah, those were the days when the going was good. That's why you don't buy private jets and such stuff on a SALARY no matter how much you are paid, because you are just setting yourself up for a fall. If you depend on diminishing skills, competencies or popularity to eat, investments should be your only priority in the sunshine when making hay. Hope his sons learn from that. Hope the likes of Eto'o know this. |
Olalekanbanky1:Married a Tunisian lady post Tunisia 94, I think. Bedroom decisions. Don't ask me how. Moreover, lived all his life in Kaduna, so he is a naturalised..... The question is, will they be playing for Nigeria or some other place if they are good enough seeing what frequently happens to our illustrious athletes. Their dad should be well aware of that, probably hasn't been paid for years.... |
Need further proof that Nigeria cannot get better under this structure. When you squeeze a typical Nigerian all you get is the stench of racism and sectionalism. We are all like that. Squeeze the emir further and the entrails of religious bigotry will explode forth. |
FKseun:But he is creating another economic lifeline. Civil servants are paid by taxes and you have to view the goose that lays the eggs. To create wealth we must diversify investment. It is far better than paying social security. |
This is how Nigeria can get out of this recession. Public works directly to thè public. It saves a lot of scarce funds because the levels of profits demanded by individuals is far less than companies, far less than Plc's and far less than multinationals in that order. And you empower those who are hardest hit by the recession. If Fayose was to give that job to ABC Limited he will spend 60 million, ten will go to the company directors. If he gave it to ABC Plc he will spend 80 million, 20 million will go to shareholders. If he gave it to ABC International he will pay 120 million, 20 will go to the CBN, banks and fx markets, 30 will go to long nosed shareholders in London, Newyork and Berlin. I have said it a few times that this is what the Federal Government should be doing and I hope the likes of Fashola are listening. All new jobs in Works, Housing and Power should go directly to the bottom of the economic tree. Do this and you don't need to pay social security. All tne monies paid to the likes of Julius Berger only lead to capital flight or end up in the pockets of the rich and super rich masquerading as company directors. Finally and most importantly, government should use the period of recession to expand the economic base of the country and diversify its participants by affirmative economic action. By withdrawing jobs from companies in favour of individuals and social groupings they wean these companies off government patronage and enable them to begin to create their own economic bubbles because there is too much dependency on government and this is risky. Just like banks have to find their own funds and grow alternate customer bases. I will like to see the big companies and multinationals engaged in PPP projects ONLY. let them source for funds and properly invest. The likes of Julius Berger have made trillions of naira from Nigeria over the decades. It is time they give back to Nigeria by helping out in these hard times by building infrastructure with their own funds and running them on PPP basis or go bust, simple. Now when people see individuals get jobs instead of companies the quest for skills will be more important than the quest for employment, the quest for education will be more important than the quest for jobs, especially the white collar types. You will see more people reading science courses and doing vocational programs. They become more handymen than pen pushers. Also they will leave these companies and venture out on their own, creating their own economic bubbles. This is how America worked its way out of the great depression. This is how China turned its agrarian Maoist economy to one of great enterprise. It is the way Nigeria should go. Start the recovery from the small man, the bottom line. Let them build the school desks, the schools themselves, the roads leading to the schools, the bridges leading to the roads, the airports leading to the roads and anything government intends to spend money on. What they cannot do should be executed PPP, simple. |
cr7lomo:Exactly what I'm saying. No one wants to think. They want God to think for them and show them opportunities right in front of their eyes. All they see is poverty. That the naira is 400 to a dollar should make anything and everything exportable, exported. Ghana, Benin, Cote D'Ivorie, Cameroun, South Africa should not be able to compete because our currency is competitively better, but all we do is nag, nag and nag. Granted, it is only top end chefs and restaurants that can sell such meals at those prices but the margins are attractive right now for a whole range of products available here. And the government should be at the fore front of engaging local manufacturers and producers to push more goods out. Their foreign trips should not be about how much to get, get, get all the time but about what this country can do for the foreign markets with its low prices. |
Oscarpraise:It is actually more than the minimum wage. Between 1980 and today the dollar has moved from 80 kobo to N400 naira. So that meal will have cost something like 17 naira equivalent in 1980. Minimum wage was something like 120 naira then I think so it is still pricey by those standards but no where near the unbelievable figures we see indicating poverty has crept on us since then. |
Cassava dust....but the price is subjective, territorial and perhaps is a reflection of how badly our economy has become because if you ask the farmer how much his cassava should truly sell for (I did on a rare visit to a farming community a few days ago) and you ask a chef how much those meals should cost, you get an entirely different picture, a picture of deepening poverty here. It may seem strange to us and we may laugh at it but the truth is....that it is us Nigerians that are getting poorer, not the goods and services that are getting pricier. The world is leaving us behind. That our minimum wage is just 45 dollars does not indict the world, it rather indicts us. And our mentality of judging things from the point of consumerism, purchasing, importing all the time is one big stumbling block we must get out of our national psyche. The question I will ask any scorner is, why don't you put yourself in the position of the producer, the manufacturer, the seller, then you begin to see posibilities that our poor economy has the potentials to create great wealth because the margins between local farm and offshore table (as in this case, is just monumental). This is the mindset of folks in developed economies. Their crashing currencies are not all catasrophic but offer temporary opportunities to the wise and prudent. |
Kill Bill, Bourne & Mission Impossible....franchises.....but it will fade. |
Bad parenting. When the dad is an accept-all liberal, he must accept this too. That is how children interpret things. |
AlphaCentauri:It is not a matter of patriotism but of keeping your word, of integrity which is not exhibited by the authorities. If you demand effort without pay, say so from the get go and let those who want it for the money alone drop out before the games. But you cannot keep going back on set rules and agreements and expect things to work out fine. Patriotism is the same thing as selfless service, same thing as chairty work and people who do it know what they are into and are prepared for it. Even God asks you to give with a 'cheerful heart', not with a gun to your head. The government should find the money and pay them immediately. If it cannot afford sports then it should privatise or commercialise it. |
kgr8mike:Funny enough, what you said in the middle is so true. They wait till the 11th hour, when the gravy has run dry and when they last morsel has been eaten so that they cannot be accused of bad habits, 'talking while eating'. That is a sign of political immaturity and shows the lack of character, ideology and principles which our democracy badly needs. You can imagine if everyone in Nigeria was a 'yes' man, politically correct 'sai babas' or unrepentant transformers, GEJites at another time, what this country will be. Leaders are as fallible as the people. They ate not elected based on the desire for superhuman powers they posses or skills that set them above the people they lead but the aggregate will and courage to represent their yearnings at any one particular snapshot in time. If I buy a product and it doesn't meet my expectations, I have a right to complain about it. Why should I be criticised for that. Then why should a political party or a President be shielded from criticism when it is in the interest of the people meamt to be served. |
ministeriallist: Kazeem the real Kazeem or Kazeem like the Cynthia Whyte of MEND or the Abubakar Shekau of the Haramites. |
Limerick:It is true we are all different. My phone is my phone. Used for calls mainly and it has to work. I cannot use an android phone for calls because the hardware it supports is just poor. If I want to do anything visual beyond calls and simple messaging I use a tab like the Samsung Tab 3. With the 10.1 screen it gives you the field of view you need and the fact that I have a life beyond the internet I can let it charge when I work. But my phone has to be on standby 24/7. Android cannot do this. The fact that you have a gazzilion apps on your phone means it is compromised in many other aspects some of which I cannot tolerate. So you don't see me with broken screens, power banks and other rubbish paraphernalia people need to maintain sanity. And as a field person, my voice phone has to be sturdy, enduring and able to take the heat....so it the network that powers it. |
As long as it permits me to use it when charging, I'm okay. Just sick of devices you have to abandon for hours to charge after giving you poor battery life. |
rhymaholic:And Dokpesi owned DAAR but is now into a more lucrative business called politics. Before the Silverbird saga did you belueve Murray Bruce was flat broke. Assets and earnings are not all what defines finances, expenditure and debts nko. |
kennyman2000: That is why he is a driver. |
Just try your best oga Fashola. But there are other ideas to bridge the funding gap and make these projects impact the economy and the jobs market more effectively. |
