okrikaboi: If you think this exercise has anything to do with the average Nigerian then you are among the 90% sadly. Emefiele has just created an avenue to receive bribes. The demand for dollar will increase now because that's the only currency you can bribe emefiele with. It is the same old cycle of devaluing the naira against the dollar. Emefiele will now clean money for politicians and big criminals while receiving 20% in dollars as bribes. He and Buhari are just enriching their pockets same deal Buhari did in the 80s. Turns out old tricks can still work. It takes an ultra satanic kind of greed for a CBN governor to be looking for bribes. |

What makes you think politicians won't have had access to it already.
You people need to grow up. OK, can ₦100K help a politician buy votes?? That would only be able to buy 20 votes. We're talking about ₦1B and above here, and no bank would dare risk the wrath of the CBN by "selling" all of their cash to a single politician, because the CBN knows how much it gives to every bank and limit of cash withdrawal to every single person. |

The extension doesn't in any way favour politicians. It's the ordinary Nigerians who are not hoarding cash it will bring reprieve to. Imagine that all the money politicians have stashed to buy votes amounts to ₦800B, CBN didn't even print up to that, so where would they get it from?? |
Politics › CBN Extension: Politicians Will Still Not Be Able To Buy Votes by RenaissanceGuy(op): 1:19pm On Jan 29, 2023*. Modified: 1:45pm On Jan 29, 2023 |
For those who are saying that the new CBN extension would afford politicians enough time to change their stashed old notes to the new notes, let me tell you that you are making a mistake. Suppose a politician has ₦1BN old notes he intended to use to buy votes. If he takes them to the bank to exchange for the new notes, he would be told there's not enough cash, and that could only credit it to his account while he can withdraw less than ₦1m in cash or come back or go to the ATM point to withdraw ₦20,000 everyday . That's why CBN intentionally printed limited notes and no bank would be that foolish to give all their stock of the notes to any big man or politician.
That's the whole essence of cashless policy in the first place. So you can see that it's still completely impossible for vote buying by cash to take place. |
Politics › Re: CBN Extends Deadline For Old Naira Notes To February 10 by RenaissanceGuy: 1:08pm On Jan 29, 2023 |
Padipadi: Buhari's has no ball. Common sense suppose tell him he's to give 6 months notice ahead for the new notes to be in full circulation. If he did the policy in order to curb politicians, then it has failed with the extension. I just don't like a man that pretends to be good but is very bad! At the end, people ll hate APC more cos the common man has nothing more to go and change in the bank. The looters has 10 more days to loot/exchange old notes. So...I disagree with the president on this extension. If I m in his shoes, I would v implemented this policy since early last year and give 6 months maximum notice with eagles eyes to watch who's exchanging huge cash. I go catch lots of people and ask where they saw huge cash to exchange. There's a limit to the old notes you can exchange with the new notes. You can't take for example ₦20B to the bank and expect to be given new notes. Bulk of it will be credited to your account and less than ₦10m cash will be given to you. |
