Sports2018 Copa Libertadores: River Plate Beat Boca Juniors In The Final 3-1 by reportminds(op): 4:07am On Dec 10, 2018
Juan Qunitero's decisive strike in the final moments of extra-time won the Libertadores for River and put an end to the farce of the 2018 final.

Sunday’s re-re-arranged final between River Plate and Boca Juniors in Madrid was a fine spectacle on the Bernabeu pitch; energetic, committed and fully befitting of the occasion that the pre-debacle build-up in Buenos Aires three weeks ago had promised the world.

Amidst all the consternation that the game was going ahead under such circumstances, it was easy to forget that there was a final still to be settled on Sunday. The score was 2-2 after a first leg that seems like a lifetime ago at Boca’s La Bombonera on November 11.

The final will be recorded as a win for River, 3-1 in extra time to seal a 5-3 aggregate victory.

SportsDoctors Reveals The Cause Of Ozil Constant Back Injury, It's Not Cex by reportminds(op): 4:31am On Dec 09, 2018
A leading sports physician has suggested that Mesut Ozil's frequent back problems could come from the fact that he plays up to FIVE HOURS of the Fortnite video game per day.

The German has missed the Gunners' last four matches, and was last seen when he was replaced by Aaron Ramsey in the 75th minute of the 1-1 draw with Wolves last month.

Back problems have been blamed for the absences, while yesterday Gunners boss Unai Emery suggested that he is still to decide whether or not Ozil will face Huddersfield Town at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday .

"This morning he worked with the physiotherapist on the pitch, running and touching the ball," he said. "[Friday] will be the decision."

There is no suggestion of what that decision is yet, but to observe what Ozil is doing in his down-time, Gunners fans have taken to monitoring the Fortnite statistics portal 'Wasted on Fortnite' which shows how often each account has played the game.

The Express claim that the portal shows Ozil's gamer account has played around 5,221 matches, with an average match lasting around 20 minutes.

That equates to some 1,740 hours of playing the game, or 72 days.

That works out at around five hours per day.

And sports physician Ingo Frobose, the University Professor for Prevention and Rehabilitation in Sport at the German Sports University of Cologne, told BILD that that much gaming could harm the World Cup winner's career.

"Yes, that [Fortnite] can be the cause of Ozil's back problems,” he said.

"A competitive athlete feels the consequences of hours of inactivity much faster than a non-athlete.

“This is because Ozil's physical structures are highly tuned due to his intense training.

“A non-athlete, however, does not notice that."

Ozil missed the Gunners 1-0 win against Huddersfield Town with Lucas Torreira scoring with a over head kick.

SportsBreaking: Hazard Agrees Personal Terms With Real Madrid Behind Chelsea by reportminds(op): 11:17am On Dec 07, 2018
Real Madrid have reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea forward, Eden Hazard. The 28-year-old Belgian attacker’s contract runs out at Stamford Bridge in 2020, and Chelsea are ready to sell him if they cannot tie him down to a new deal.

However, Chelsea will not let Hazard go easily. The Premier League club value the attacking midfielder at around 170m euros, a fee that Madrid – who are thought to be eyeing a part-exchange deal involving Mateo Kovacic – would not be willing to shell out for a player entering the final year of his contract.

Currently on loan in West London from Los Blancos, Kovacic doesn’t want to return to the Bernabéu when his temporary Chelsea deal ends in the summer, and the six-time English champions would like the Croatian midfielder to stay on.

SportsNigeria To Replace Cameroon As AFCON 2019 Host by reportminds(op): 11:23pm On Dec 05, 2018
The African football governing body, CAF, on Saturday stripped Cameroon off the hosting rights for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, Nigeria’s football facility expert, has urged the NFF to make a move to host the continental event stating that there are ” many good stadiums in the country”.

Following the stripping of Cameroon of the AFCON 2019 hosting right, sports facilities expert, Ebi Egbe, has called on Nigerian football authorities to bid for the soccer showpiece.

Egbe while backing CAF’s decision to strip the Central African country of the hosting right, noted that Cameroon doesn’t not have the capacity to host the event, which is Africa’s World Cup.

“We have so many good stadiums in the country. All that these stadiums lack is good playing turfs, which can be fixed in less than three months.

“The stadiums in Abuja, Uyo, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Asaba, Katsina, Lagos, Makurdi, Aba, Kano, Kaduna, Gombe and Bauchi can host any major international competition.

All that the government need do is to re-grass the pitches. Talking about hotels, there are good hotel facilities in all of these cities and they all have airports and these are the things CAF would be looking out for.”

Image result for We can host AFCON 2019, says facilities expert
Egbe said his outfit which did the pitches in Katsina, Makurdi, Aba and Yenagoa stadiums, can get the pitches of all the stadiums ready in two months if the federal government shows interest in hosting the tournament.

He stressed that Nigeria can use AFCON 2019 to address the problem of poor playing pitches, which Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr, only last week observed as the biggest problem facing Nigerian football and home based players.

“Only last week Rohr said poor playing condition is the biggest problem of Nigerian football. Hosting AFCON would help us solve that problem.

“Beyond that, Nigeria would not be marching words with action over her leadership role in Africa if countries like South Africa, Morocco and Egypt continue to take the shine off us when it comes to hosting major international tournaments,” Egbe said.

SportsPogba Replies Mourinho Who Called Him "A Virus" by reportminds(op): 11:51am On Dec 04, 2018
Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has responded to his manager, Jose Mourinho, calling him “virus” over the weekend.

Recall that Mourinho called Pogba a virus following their 2-2 draw with Southampton on Sunday.

According to The Times, Pogba hit back at the lack of options in the midfield during Southampton clash, and said he had no-one to pass to because Mourinho’s tactics do not allow players to move freely around him.

The report claimed that the France international did not react angrily to Mourinho’s criticism and delivered his own critique in a calm manner, with the disagreement never getting out of hand.

Pogba will hope to lead United to victory when they tackle Arsenal on Wednesday in the Premier League fixture.

The Red Devils currently occupy the seventh position on the Premier League table with 22 points from 14 games.

SportsHost Nation, Ghana Crash Out Of AWCON 2018 by reportminds(op): 3:18pm On Nov 24, 2018
Hosts Ghana Friday crashed out of the ongoing African Women Nations cup after playing out a 1-1 draw against Cameroon.

The Black Queens who shot into the lead in the early stage of the encounter thanks to Portia Boakye looked good to run away with the much needed victory to earn them a place in the semifinals, but that was not to be after Cameroon converted a penalty handed to opponents on a platter by Black Queens goalkeeper which was quickly delivered by Christine Manie.

The draw was enough for Cameroon to qualify for the semifinals with seven points but Ghana’s exit was further confirmed when Mali came from behind in the second group match to edge out Algeria 3-2 in Cape Coast.

Super Falcons who bounced back into contention after beating Zambia 4-0 will on Saturday take on already eliminated Equatorial Guinea in the last group match while Group leaders South Africa take on Zambia.

The exit means Ghana will not have the opportunity to represent Africa at next year’s Women’s World Cup in France with the top three finishers expected to fly the continent’s flag.

SportsManchester City Will Not Sign Any Player In January - Guardiola by reportminds(op): 3:11pm On Nov 24, 2018
Pep Guardiola says Manchester City will not be making any signings in January, effectively ruling out buying a short-term replacement for the injured Benjamin Mendy.

Guardiola believes his squad is strong enough to get through to the end of the season, despite the injury absences of Mendy, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and backup goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Belgian playmaker De Bruyne and Portuguese midfielder Silva are likely to be available for the Premier League leaders within the next 10 days but Mendy will be out for up to 12 weeks after having surgery on meniscus damage in his left knee.

Asked whether he might be tempted to sign a replacement for Mendy in January, Guardiola said, “No. We are not going to spend anything (in January). I am so happy with the squad, people are coming back, so no.”

Guardiola’s comments also signal that any move for Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong will wait until the end of the season.

De Jong, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, is understood to be the leading long-term candidate to replace Fernandinho in the City midfield.

Fernandinho, 33, has started all 12 of City’s Premier League matches this season, with Guardiola describing him as “exceptional”.

SportsAhmed Musa Calls Caf Out After Offside Call Deny Nigeria Winner Vs. South Africa by reportminds(op): 5:31pm On Nov 18, 2018
Ahmed Musa has questioned the offside call that denied Nigeria a winner in Saturday's African Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa at the FNB Stadium.

In the 83rd minute of the clash and with the score tied at 1-1, Alex Iwobi threaded an incisive pass through for Musa, who also had substitute Isaac Success chasing it.

The Al Nassr forward opted to have a go instead and slotted past Itumeleng Khune to put the Super Eagles ahead, but referee Bakary Gassama ruled it out for an offside.

Replays, however, showed the referee and his assistant got the call wrong as both players were few metres behind a Bafana Bafana defender.

Earlier in the first half, Musa was involved in a similar incident and was unlucky not to register an assist with strike partner Kelechi Iheanacho's tap-in ruled out for offside.

Sports'i'm Disappointed! "- Baxter Laments At South Africa Draw Against Nigeria by reportminds(op): 9:28pm On Nov 17, 2018
Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has expressed his disappointment following their 1-1 draw against Nigeria in their penultimate 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday afternoon.

The British-born mentor admitted that his men were not brave enough when it mattered most and will now have to fight until the death against Libya in their final match in Group E.

“I’m disappointed a little bit and I’m proud a little bit. We’ve taken four points off the Super Eagles and the only goal we’ve conceded so far in the tournament is an own goal,” Baxter told SuperSport TV.

“I’m disappointed that we weren’t braver, we said at half-time, we give them problems when we get through and get our movements, we run people away and challenge them one v one,” added the coach.

Reflecting on their second half performance, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach said they resorted to long balls and that was not a good plan to unsettle the Super Eagles.

“And in the second half we started to go long. We started to go really long and that’s a sign of nerves that we don’t want to concede,” continued the coach.

"I want a good run and delivery but not just hook it over the defence. Even the problems we gave them in the second half were the same, combinations. I’m little bit disappointed but the fight goes on,” said the coach.

Moreover, Baxter also shared his thoughts on midfielder Thulani Serero's display following his return after a long absence from the national team fold.

“It was a big one for Thulani to come in because we didn’t have him in the game the way we wanted. So I changed him and put Percy (Tau) as a 10. We pulled (Thembinkosi) Lorch as a winger. It didn’t come out the way I wanted. I wanted play in between so the runs could come,” he concluded.

At a shareholders’ meeting today, clubs were provided with an update on the non-live VAR trials being undertaken by the League and Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL) this season.

Key learnings from VAR's use in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and other leagues across the world, were discussed in detail.

The Premier League’s non-live testing programme will remain in place for the rest of this season, with a continued emphasis on those Saturday afternoons which have several matches being played concurrently, and developing a clear protocol for communicating VAR decisions to fans.

The League will now formally make a request to the International Football Association Board and FIFA to use VAR next season.

Rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known as AKA has revealed that he will perform hit single 'Fela in Versace' with producer Kiddominant before South Africa take on Nigeria in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The song which has taken over the airwaves across both countries with over 1.9 million views on YouTube was one of the tracks in AKA's third studio album Touch My Blood, released on June 15.

‘Fela in Versace’ pays tribute to Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and it is one of the many collaborations between Nigerian and South African artistes this year.

The winner of Saturday’s encounter between the Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles will move to the summit of the Group E and automatically secures its spot for next year’s continental showpiece in Cameroon.

Despite the importance of the game to both teams, AKA took to Instagram to reveal that the FNB Stadium will be a 'perfect place' to perform the track.

“Myself and my brother, Kiddominant will be out at FNB stadium for the AFCON qualifier between #SAvNIG on Saturday. Perfect place to do ‘Fela in Versace’ LIVE at 14:45,” AKA wrote on Instagram.

SportsBarcelona Star Dembele Being Sued By Ex-landlord Over Late Rent by reportminds(op): 6:15pm On Nov 15, 2018
Barcelona star Dembele being sued by ex-landlord over late rent and damaged flat.

Ousmane Dembele is being sued for €20,000 by his former landlord over unpaid rent and the state in which he left his apartment.

The 21-year-old has had a difficult year since leaving Borussia Dortmund for Barcelona in 2017, but he has become the subject of controversy in Germany once again.

His former landlord claims the France international owes €15,000 worth of rent and is demanding a further €5,000 in compensation to repair damage done to the home.

Dembele is said to have damaged the floors and left rubbish and clothes throughout the flat, as pictures published by Bild showed. Furthermore, the ex-Rennes star did not give back the keys to the property, meaning the locks had to be changed after his departure.
It has taken longer than expected to begin the lawsuit because Dembele's current address was unknown, leading to the notice being sent directly to Barcelona.

"Mr Dembele is charged by his former landlord to pay €15,000 rent plus €5.000 compensation," a spokesman for the local court in Dortmund told SID. " That is the cost to repair some damages: Broken shutters, damaged floors, for example. The garbage which is mentioned in the report [from Bild] is explicitly not part of this proceeding."

Now that Dembele has been notified of the lawsuit, he has a limited time to respond.

"The receiver now has two to three weeks to respond to these claims," the spokesman told Der Western. "If he doesn't there will be a default judgement."

It is the latest issue facing the attacker, who has been the subject of headlines already in recent weeks.

SportsConte Rules Out Taking Real Madrid Job by reportminds(op): 8:41pm On Nov 12, 2018
Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has claimed he wants to wait until June before returning to management while addressing the possibility of taking over at Real Madrid.

The 49-year-old has been out of work since leaving Stamford Bridge during the summer, after winning the Premier League and the FA Cup during his two-year stint in England.

The ex-Blues boss had been lined up to replace Julen Lopetgeui at Santiago Bernabeu, but for the time being Santiago Solari has been installed as manager on an interim basis.

Conte spoke to Sky Sports on Monday and addressed the Madrid speculation - which is still raging on heading into the winter period - confessing that despite interest from top clubs, he intends to wait until the end of the season before signing up for a 'new project'.

"Real Madrid? As I see it, it is better to wait until the end of the season than to take a train running now," the Italian tactician said.

"I want to wait for June and start again with a new project. In three months I could change my mind and deny everything, but I've always thought of it this way."
