The Nigeria Professional Football League is ranked the eight best in Africa in the last decade by eurotopteams.com.

The ranking was done based on points amassed in CAF’s inter-clubs club competitions since February 2019.


The list sees the Tunisian Ligue 1 toppling all other leagues on the continent.

Egypt Premier League is in the second place with Morocco, Algeria and DR Congo following in that order.

Neymar took to social media to launch his new signature Mercurial Vapor 360 boots as the Brazilian ace continues his recovery from injury.



The PSG star injured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during the French champions Coupe de France clash with Strasbourg last month and was ruled out for around seven weeks.

Neymar, who has received treatment in Paris and Barcelona, headed back to Brazil on Thursday for a 10-day trip under supervision of PSG's medical department.



While he rested up on the flight, Neymar, wearing his own brand white cap, took the chance to spend the hours in the air wisely, showing off the designs of his latest boots.

With a finger to his lips, the boots, nicknamed 'Silencio', are said to reference 'his ability to turn the sound off and focus on the ball', according to Nike's website.

The boots feature a striking red Nike logo while the basis for the design is a blend of white and black. They will retail at £229.95 in the UK.

The Gunners came from a goal down in the first leg to beat BATE Borisov 3-0 at the Emirates while their London rivals defeated Malmo 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Mali defeated Senegal on penalties after a one all score line after extra time.

The lost by Senegal means they have lost their last three AFCON finals in succession.

Senegal couldn’t hold Mali for long as the Aiglons found the back of the net after fifteen minutes. Boubacar Traore put Mali in the lead after finishing off Haadji Drame’s delivery, to put Senegal behind for the first time in the tournament.

With 17 minutes to go, Amadou Ndiaye scored to drag Senegal back into the game and take the game to extra time. The game had to be decided on penalties as none of the teams were able to find the back of the net during the extra time period.

Mali won the game after successfully converting three penalties to Senegal’s two.

The tournament is the 15th edition to be hosted with Nigeria bagging in a maximum of seven titles. The African U-20 tournament is a biennial youth tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for players aged from 20 and below.

The tournament consists of eight teams in two group to battle it out for the ultimate prize. The top two of each group moves to the semifinals and automatically gain qualification into the FIFA U-20 World Cup per FIFA rules.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup to be hosted by Poland will have AFCON champions Mali, second place Senegal, third place South Africa and fourth place Nigeria represent Africa in the U-20 World Cup.

Reigning Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award’s ‘Trail Blazer’ winner and the first runner-up in the Big Brother Naija 2017, Bisola Aiyeola, has penned an emotional message to the organisers of the reality show in an Instagram post to appreciate all that has happened in her life in one year. It was deja vu for the mother of one and all praise when she remembered the exact day she left the show last year.

However, she didn’t become a household name until 2017 when she became the first runner-up in the Big Brother Naija ‘See Gobe’ show.

To that effect, Bisola has taken full advantage of her time in the Big Brother Naija house to advance her music and acting career, landing a management deal with The Temple Management Company which already houses big names like Don Jazzy, Iyanya, 9ice, Nigerian sprinter Seye Ogunlewe; and has released an EP and music videos. Since her exit from the show, she has attended the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in New York as an Ambassador of One Campaign Initiative, secured more movie roles and won the AMVCA “Trail Blazer” award in 2018 – an achievement she says she’s most proud of.

According to SunSport, interim boss Solskjaer HAS landed the job, although the club may not announce it until the summer.

Speaking to Saturday Beats, Etti thanked God for her accomplishments but noted that there was one thing she would have done differently if she could turn back the hands of time.

“I only have one regret in life; if I could turn back the hands of time to when I was 25, I would have loved to achieve a lot of things. For instance, at that age, I would have been done with childbirth. When I see some of my colleagues that have grown children, I admire them. I also consider myself to be lucky and I give glory to God because there are some of my colleagues that are still hoping to have children. I also know that God does things at the appropriate time. When I have a daughter, I will advise her to get married by age 26.

“Motherhood is a very lovely experience but it is not an easy task. I remember those days before I had kids, I could go out around 1am. Once in a while, I would go to a club, just to enjoy myself but now, I have to think of the children before taking any action,” she said.

In few months time, the actress would join the league of entertainers who have clocked 40. She confided in Saturday Beats that unlike last year when she took some photos partially naked during a photo shoot to celebrate her birthday, this year would be different. According to her, she would do something more subtle.

“I would not say that I was half naked in the photo shoot for my birthday last year. I only took the pictures while I was covered with a bedspread. I just felt like doing something different. This year, I would be 40 years old and I would also love to do something different.

“I own my life and I do not care about what people say as long as I am happy. The only constant thing in life is change; there are times people see me and say that I am a quiet person. I took the picture just to do something crazy. As I clock 40, I may not do something crazy because once you have kids, you have to give them some respect,” the actress said.

Recalling one of her less favourite moments in the course of her career, Etti said that she would never forget the day a senior colleague rubbished her simply because she had shown some excitement to work with the lady.

“I remember when I recently joined the movie industry; I was paired with a senior colleague for a movie project. The person is well known. I was very excited that I was working with a popular person. I knew my lines very well and I read them out with zeal and excitement only for the popular senior colleague to tell me to shut up.

“She said, ‘Who is this idiot, I am sorry, I cannot work with her.’ I felt very bad but it did not discourage me. The producer and director of the movie project had to apologise to me. Glory be to God because 12 years later, the woman wanted to produce a movie and she wanted me to play the lead role and began to beg me.

“She had forgotten what she did but I remember vividly. I did not remind her of what she did because God has told us to forgive and forget. I just give glory to God because it is one of those things that happen in life,” she said.

Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo revealed that forgotten Super Eagles star Obafemi Martins and former Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores convinced him to join Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

The 29-year-old Lagos-born moves to the three-time Chinese Super League champions on a three-year deal to replace his fellow countryman Martins at the club where the ex-Inter Milan, Newcastle United and Seattle Sounders goal poacher.

Seun Kuti, Afrobeat artist and 2019 Grammy nominee, says he missed his performance at the 61st edition of the award ceremony because he missed his flight.

In an apology to fans on his Instagram page, the youngest son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti said there was a ticket mix-up.
“First and foremost I have to say I am sorry to all the fans that tuned in to see us perform yesterday but didn’t. I had the weirdest ticket mix up in history meaning I missed my flight and the rehearsals and we couldn’t go on,” he captioned a video of him on the Grammy red carpet.

Despite missing his own performance, he performed alongside Fatoumata Diawara, a Malian singer/songwriter, to cap off the celebrations

Soweto Gospel Choir, a South African gospel group, clinched the award, making it their third Grammy win.

This is the fifth time a Kuti has been nominated for the Grammys.

The top gospel singer, who is holding another edition of her annual concert, Praise the Almighty, today, said she didn’t always wait for her husband, Soji, to apologise first whenever they had issues. She stated, “Whenever there are issues, it is either I apologise first or my husband does. I apologise more than him because I don’t want little things to become huge. But if he realises that he needs to apologise first, he doesn’t hesitate to do that. We don’t even sleep without settling our differences, and I am being honest about this. God called me to work for Him and He has made me to have a good home also. I cannot do anything by myself alone.”

She also stated she still cooked for her husband. “I work with my husband; so, it makes things easier for me. We are always together. When we need to be at home, I cook and he enjoys my cooking. No doubt, I am a very busy person and he is too,” she said.

The Yes and Amen singer added that winning more souls for God and establishing a music school are things that are high on her priority list. “I really want to have a music school where I can impart unto younger ones the gift God gave me. I know things will get better for the gospel music industry as God is not done with us,” she said.

Admitting that singing in her local dialect had put some limitations on her music, Alabi said it was God’s gift to her and she could do nothing about it. She stated, “I want to gain more grounds for God. I have been trying to adjust because some people don’t understand Yoruba. Also, you know my Yoruba language is deep. But I cannot stop singing in my dialect because that is the gift God gave me. Most of my songs are subtitled for others to understand.”

Lionel Messi has begged for Emiliano Sala’s search to resume, after police called off rescue operations yesterday.


Police from Guernsey abandoned the search on Thursday after the light aircraft taking the 28-year-old Argentinian to Wales following his signing with Cardiff City from Ligue 1 side Nantes disappeared from radar near the British island on Monday.

Lionel Messi took to his Instagram page to urge for the search to continue, he wrote;

“While there is the possibility, a shred of hope, we ask that you please #NoDejenDeBuscar (don’t stop searching) for Emiliano. All my strength to your family and friends,”

Messi’s plea comes after Sala’s father and other players, including Bordeaux’s Valentin Vada and Leganes’ Uruguayan attacker Diego Rolan, begged authorities to continue the search.

Sala’s family have asked that Nantes not to commemorate their former teammate at this weekend’s French Cup clash with third-tier Entente Sannois Saint-Gratien.

“We ask you to respect the family who absolutely refuse to talk about mourning and ask us to keep believing,” Nantes captain Valentin Rongier told more than 300 Nantes fans who came to an open training session on Thursday.

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, has joined Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Katsina United.

Ezenwa left Enyimba at the end of the last season when his one-year contract ended with the Aba side.

His move to the Katsina side was delayed following his demand for an N700,000-a-month salary.

Mauricio Pochettino has distanced himself from speculation linking him with the vacant managerial job at Manchester United, insisting he is focused on giving his best for Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday having overseen a disappointing start to the 2018-19 campaign that sees United in sixth place in the table.

Indeed, this is the Red Devils worst ever start to a Premier League season, with the club currently 19 points behind leaders Liverpool.

But, when asked about his potential interest in the job at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's north London derby against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, Pochettino insisted he is only focused on Spurs.

He told reporters: "I want to send my best wishes to [Mourinho]. I am so sorry, I know him well, and it's sad news. It's not my business what happens at another club, I just want to send my best wishes to Jose.

"In five years here a lot of rumour has happened, I respect a lot the opinion of everyone. A lot of rumours happen, but it's not my business what has happened. I want to deliver my best show at this football club."

Earlier today, Manchester United announced that the manager Jose Mourinho has been released from his duty as the gaffer of the Red Devils.

The Daily Record initially reported that United were to face a compensation package of roughly £18 million if they dismissed Mourinho before the end of the season.

That fee has the potential to rise exponentially, however, now that he has been axed before the end of January.

In doing so, United will now have to pay him a Champions League "top up" having sacked him while the club are still in the European competition, or still in contention to finish in the top four (no matter how unlikely the latter scenario is).

United will now pay the Portuguese manager a fee in the region of £22.5m, according to the Daily Mail, to cut short a contract that was poised to run until 2020.

Though Mourinho was on a basic salary of £18m – which is what Man United are liable to pay in order to dismiss him – the contract included a 25 per cent bonus if the club were still in the running for the two main competitions upon being sacked.

Jose Mourinho will not face any further action from the Football Association (FA) after an independent commission's decision to dismiss a charge of using abusive, insulting and improper language.

Manchester United found themselves 2-0 down early on at Old Trafford against Newcastle United in October, but three goals in the last 20 minutes saw them turn the game on its head and spare the blushes of Mourinho, who was reportedly in danger of being sacked at the time.

At full-time, a relieved Mourinho was caught by television cameras muttering words deemed to have been "abusive and/or insulting and/or improper" during his celebrations.

An independent regulatory commission opted not to impose a punishment on Mourinho, because it was determined the charges could not be proven, highlighting the fact the manager's comments were not aimed at anyone in particular and unlikely to have been interpreted by many.

The commission also accepted the defence – put forward by a Portuguese language expert – that had someone interpreted Mourinho's comments, they would not have been offended, rather understood an expression of vindication or success after long suffering.

The FA appealed that decision in November and were supported by an appeal board, but they learned on Monday that the charge has been dismissed by another independent commission.

An FA statement read: "The FA welcomes the original decision of the appeal board to uphold its appeal against Mr Mourinho for using abusive, insulting and improper language after the Manchester United v Newcastle United match on 6 October 2018.

"It also respects the decision of the Independent Regulatory Commission to dismiss the charge based on the legal argument submitted by Mr Mourinho.

"The FA's position, which it maintained throughout the hearing, was that Mr Mourinho directed his abusive, insulting and improper words directly towards the camera lens, and in these circumstances, the decision to charge was consistent with previous FA charging practice.

"Whilst we accept that the Independent Regulatory Commission disagreed on this occasion, The FA wishes to make clear that it will continue to take action against participants for any form of abusive, insulting, or improper language or behaviour, which is directed towards a camera. The FA now considers this matter to be closed."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is wary of the threat posed by the Reds' Champions League last-16 opponents Bayern Munich, refusing to underestimate Niko Kovac's men.

The two sides have had contrasting starts to the season, with Liverpool exceeding expectations by sitting top, while Bayern are nine points adrift of Bundesliga pacesetters Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool have picked up where they left off last season and look set to push Manchester City all the way in the Premier League title race.

But Bayern have been wildly erratic and seen new coach Kovac come under significant pressure at times, reportedly coming close to losing his job in November.


"At the end, it's a football game on the highest level and we have to play it," Klopp told Liverpool's official website.

"We knew it before, it's not that anybody thought 'thank God it's Liverpool', so we don't think 'thank God it's Bayern'.

"It's a tough one, but that's how it should be. It's the last 16 of the Champions League so there are only tough teams in and I'm really excited about it."

The draw will see Klopp return to his native Germany for the away leg, and he is excited about the prospect of going up against the side he endured many monumental tussles with in his time at Dortmund.

"In the last couple of years, they have dominated the German league in the best period of German football," Klopp added.

"Everybody was talking about Germany being in a really good moment and Bayern was dominating the league, that's the truth.

"It's nice. It's obviously long ago that I played Bayern in a competitive game, so I'm really looking forward to it.

"We all know the stadium; the atmosphere will be great. It's a really nice trip for all our supporters, it's a wonderful city, so that's all good.

"The flight is not too long and we [the Liverpool staff] obviously know more about German football than about any other league, that's true, but that doesn't make a big, massive difference.

"In the end, the boys have to decide it on the pitch. Let's give it a try."

Award-winning Nigerian singer Asa has confessed that she is so much afraid of fetish people that she does everything to avoid them.

The singer made this revelation while performing at the maiden edition of the Spice TV Lifestyle Honours concert recently in Lagos.

In order to have a better performance, she pulled off her shoes. But on a second thought, she instructed her team to look for it and made sure they picked up both footwear.

Asa said:

“I cannot leave a pair of my shoes on the stage. I am afraid of fetish people. Please, look for the other shoe before it gets lost.”

A lady then came on stage to pick the shoes and Asa became visibly relieved. Even though she said this with a smile on her face, it was obvious she didn’t want to leave anything to chance.

Asa, who hasn’t performed in the country in a long while, started the night on a conservative note. With songs such as Fire On the Mountain, Jailer, Bibanke, The Way I Feel and Moving On, the singer left the audience gasping for more.

A drama unfolded at this year’s edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards ceremony when Yemi Solade and Femi Adebayo were both announced as the winner of the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Yoruba).

When it was time to take the award home, people wondered who would make the sacrifice and leave it for the other. Eventually, Yemi Solade asked Adebayo to take the plaque home.

Speaking with Sunday Scoop, Solade stated that he gave the plaque to Adebayo because he (Adebayo) lived in Ibadan, the host state for this year’s BON. He said, “I wasn’t surprised that the movie, Irolabi, did well. When I saw it, I thought I did a lot of work. When they announced two persons as the winners of that category, it was like a comedy but I guess they have their reasons. I gave the plaque to Adebayo since he stays in Ibadan. If they make another award, I will collect it. But I enjoyed the fact that I won the best actor and it is now part of my CV.”

Solade admitted that the category was very competitive, saying the other nominees, such as Bolanle Ninalowo and Adebayo, had a good year too. He said, “It was a competitive one but I think I deserved it and I needed the award as a reward for my effort this year. Some people felt I was old but it was about the role, not the age. I was given a role by a producer, Lekan Quadri, who I didn’t know before. Though we shared the award, I still rate myself higher than Adebayo because he played the lead role in his movie, Etiko Onigedu.”

A lovesick Offset interrupted Cardi B‘s Rolling Loud set bearing flowers to ask his ex to take him back. Chris Smalling has penned a new contract at Manchester United.

The centre-back extends his time at the club until 2022 ahead of tomorrow's clash with Liverpool. There is an option for a further 12 months to take him up to 2023.

Smalling admitted his delight at committing his future in his ninth season at Old Trafford.

He said: “This is my ninth season with the club and I am delighted to be continuing my progression with this team.

“It is a real honour to play for Manchester United and we are all now concentrating on the busy schedule of games throughout the festive period.”

Nollywood actress, Wumi Toriola has opened up on her role in the ongoing divorce saga between former couple, Toyin Aimakhu and Adeniyi Johnson.

In an interview with BBC Yoruba, Toriola says Aimakhu “rained hot curses on her” when she advised her to take ex-husband, Johnson back. This comes after the two actresses apologized to each other after a major feud.

She said, “After we shot Alakada Reloaded, we were in a hotel room and she slapped me. I was very angry and I would have hit her back if not that I loved her. After she slapped me, I walked out and went to another room. The following day, I expected her to apologise to me but she just told me to bring her belongings in my car. She was not apologetic at all.

“Before I got home that day, she had also told other people that she slapped me and I was upset that she was even proud of what she did to me. Because of that, I made a video on Instagram and I told her never to repeat such act; I just wanted her to feel sorry about her action. She then called some elders in the industry and those ones prevailed on me to bury the hatchet. So, I deleted the post online.”

BARCELONA are determined to deal with Ousmane Dembele's off-pitch problems and have instructed him not to turn his phone off or leave it on silent during the night.

The French wonderkid has been in trouble with Barcelona chiefs recently for his antics, but they are now giving him strict instructions as they look to get the best out of him.

Dembele's struggles have been well documented; last week he was fined £90,000 for turning up two hours' late to training and had previously arrived late for a match, skipped a team meeting and missed a training session.

But despite the disciplinary problems, the France attacker is in fine form and has the full-backing of his team-mates.

According to Marca, the club are on a mission to crack down on Dembele and want to curb his late night video-game sessions and his binge-watching of television shows.

The first step to ensuring his antics don't interfere with his job is to ban him from turning his phone off, or putting it on silent, so that he cannot sleep through his alarm after a late night.

Barca are keen to keep the 21-year-old in the fold, rather than isolate him from the squad as he has scored eight times from 13 appearances.

His team-mates are also hoping to do all they can to help guide the young winger, as Lionel Messi even stating "we need Dembele."

Club legend Gerard Pique has also jumped to the forward's defence, believing that the Frenchman just needs some guidance.

He said: "We have to help Dembele to see that football is 24 hours. You have to live it from the first minute to the last. All his teammates are here to help him... we've all been young and we've all made mistakes."
