This is what we get when there are too many media aides all trying to show they are working in order to justify their salaries. Then again, this is a prove that there is misplacement of priorities under this administration. There are more serious things to respond to, yet they took time out to respond to nothing of value in this precarious time. These people are trying their best to prove to us in each passing day that we made a mistake as a nation. However, I continue to hope and enjoin others to hope that things get better because it is terrible out here. |

grodt999: Well you made some good points but you are also part of the problem...it is either people who do not know or those or only know enough not to help fix it.
Lets discuss the commonsense of YOUR statement "However, the blame still goes to the leaders because even the devil is believed to give with one hand and take with the other, but our leaders only takes until the country winds up dead.
1, how can you blame LEADERS who despite the citizens knowing they are crooks are allowed to win fraudulent elections or carry out military coup without the citizens doing much about it? Even if some of these people got to leadership legally why do the citizens allow them stay in power knowing they are ineffective...DO YOU HOESTLY THINK IF NIGERIAN CITIZENS ARE NOT MORONS WHO ARE TO BLAME, THIS WILL HAPPEN?
2, You mentioned the devil (a concept that no one on this planet know yet Nigerians like you legitimize the existence and use it to shape your mentality! Is that also the fault of LEADERS
3, Did you say the leaders take until the country wind up dead? Nigerian Citizens have stolen, defrauded and corrupted the country more than any leaders will ever do. There is no sector (private and public) where nigerian citizens work and not take bribe. Even street food sellers will give you expired products, collect gratification for services, 419 you, armed robbers, fake pastors/imams,,,,Nigeria is packed with criminals, thieves and conmen yet you are blaming WHO? LEADERS ? Is it the leaders that asked ibo people to carry drugs to Asia and other parts of the world, is it leaders who are sending prostitutes to Italy...despite the fact that Nigeria is not the poorest country on earth? Nigerian population is nearly 200 million despite hunger and starvation...children are being born into instant poverty by citizens not leaders. Fake chinese rice, toxic waste, contraband and other illegal substances are being put in circulation to kill fellow Nigerians but your response is leaders!!!
you cannot even enter Nigeria without some citizen wearing a uniform asking you for bribe to enter your own country.
Is it leaders who are doing land 419 all over Nigeria? You cannot leave your house in Nigeria without another Nigerian trying to murder, attack, cheat, abuse and terrorise you!
I beg get a life jare! You made good points I must say. But then, I must say again that you are very temperamental, judging by your conclusion. You don't have to sound rude in order to be emphatic. Nearly everything you said above can be classified under my earlier statement that "bad leadership is a product of bad society". This statement explains that our society is bad, and it is this bad society that is responsible for our leaders behaving in a manner they are not suppose to. I also said the onus is on all Nigerians to contribute positively to the growth of the country through the little roles we play at the family level and society at large. Again, I said earlier that an average Nigerian creates problems for himself and society at large. I believe this statement explains all the anomalies you highlighted above that are associated with Nigerians. Again, the aspect where I said the devil, you ought to know that it is figurative, and doesn't mean whether anyone has seen the devil. It is a common believe that the devil is a bad guy and that he perpetrate evil, that serves as the background for its usage in my comment. I don't think I am wrong for doing that. On the area where I blamed the leaders which appear to upset you is unavoidable in this discourse. First, politics belongs to the superstructure. This means that it is politics that allocate values to every other sector of society. This is followed closely by law and economy. Leadership is a product of politics in Nigeria, therefore can be used to encourage or discourage social behaviour. That includes all the vices you mentioned above that are associated with Nigerians. My brother, like where you have smoke, there is fire, where humans exist, there is a state, where there is a state, there is politics, and where there is politics, there is power. The power here can be used to build or destroy, punish or reward, make good or make bad etc. Why I apportioned some of the blame to the leaders is because they are the ones who exercise this power. Leadership is suppose to be responsive so that the citizens can make informed choices in order to lead the good life. Finally, the part where you said I should get a life, I don't think I did anything wrong to deserve that abrasive comment. I mean, you barely know me, so it is not morally correct for you to say that. People should be more cosmopolitan in outlook when making contributions here. I think throwing insults is gradually becoming a Nigerian problem which our leaders will have to solve too. Thank you |

grodt999: And the citizens are not illiterates? How do you describe people who buy private jets for fake pastors and become enslaved to a religon founded by a paedophile terrorist? How do you describe people who know they cannot feed children but have them in abundance anyway? How do you describe people who employ low level chinese, indian and Lebanese immigrants and call them master?
If you want to know the problem of Nigeria look at the average citizen! This your comment is a masterpiece. Short yet speaks volume. Bad leadership is a product of bad society so do bad laws. Nigerians are responsible for the bad leaders we have today. An average Nigerian creates problems for himself and society on daily bases, some even insurmountable. However, the blame still goes to the leaders because even the devil is believed to give with one hand and take with the other, but our leaders only takes until the country winds up dead. The onus therefore is on all Nigerians to contribute positively to the growth of the country through the little things we do as individuals at the family level, and society at large. |

megbu: You get my point. Our political system and by implication our destiny has been hijacked by power seekers whose primary interest has no resonance with the aspirations of the man on the street. We are running a rat race because the same people are lining up to contest in 2019. Don't be surprised to be asked then to chose between Atiku and Buhari. Is that having a choice? Trust me its easy to unite this country in the elections, Nigerians are smarter than we care to give ourselves credit. We just need to see a credible choice if not it is back to tribalism and regionalism cos that will be the last criteria since every other criteria is non existent. So TRUE. @bolded, I am afraid the choice is right before us already, at least I have seen a little online, even here on nairaland. My question now is, will there be redemption for Nigeria? If there is, at what cost? With what is hanging over our heads concerning 2019 like you rightly opined, our visit to the wilderness is far from over |

megbu: You are sound my dear but sometimes you can't help being insultive. That said I think you and many pro GEJ share the same view. Deep inside they knew the man was corrupt but when they look at the squad lined up against him as opposition, Tinubu, Amaechi, Obasanjo,Atiku,Sarrki, Audu Ogbe and so on they felt their sensibilities is being insulted. Nigerians wanted change but these guys wanted power and super contracts. Somebody like me was yearning for a young performer from the north to preside over my affair not an unbending, stubborn strong sheriff. We just want a smart man that will come in and strengthen our institutions, show us the way and leave us alone to thrive happily. We knew Nigeria was in need of change in 2015 but must it be Buhari. I think this was why the SE and SS felt that it was a gang up against GEJ because there is no difference between him and those that want him out. Our party system must be revised so that credible people could be presented to us during elections to be able to make informed choices. Not always asking the electorate every four years to chose between the devil and the deep blue sea. Thank you so much for this piece. All we wanted was for someone to come and set the prerequisites for development to thrive, and leave us alone to grow. But what we have seen so far is the usual Wednesday meetings with no corresponding gains on the part of the masses. Award of contracts to friends and wards, people claiming to clean the system with more dirty hands etc. Nigeria is bigger than Jonathan and Buhari, so people should stop playing drama about who is better and start talking to those available to do the right thing. There is opportunity for improvement no matter the conditions so Mr. President should buckle up. |

famosh: Absolutely spot on. I see many people here claiming to be intelligent because they support an ineffectual buffoon but can't put situations in perspective. None of the dull Jonathan sycophants here has given a good analysis as you've done.
A Jonathan that, WITH OIL BOOM, met a GDP growth of 7.68% in 2011 & left it at 2.35% in 2015, is that an improvement? is that one a president? Buhari is failing, but these dull Jonathan sycophants shouldn't think we regret voting out the ineffectual buffoon. Somebody that was already borrowing to pay salaries a few months to the end of his tenure just because oil price fell a bit lower than usual, wetin him for dey do now that oil price doesn't even want to go up again and he can't cut wastages in government because of massive corruption around him? That guy na bad luck abeg. My brother, calling others unprintable names just to prove a point doesn't make you intelligent either. You should understand that like noses, everyone has their own understanding and interpretation of what reality is. Using Jonathan as a template for assessing Buhari in my opinion is so wrong. There is a general agreement that Jonathan did poorly but that is not a ticket for Buhari to do poorly with what is available. Let us stop using Jonathan to determine if Buhari is doing well or not. Saying Jonathan had so much money yet did not do well, so Buhari should do worse is not the right pointer. Shining a little light in darkness when there is opportunity to shine it all is nothing better. President Buhari could have done better than what it is now with the little available. I bet you will agree with me on this. Good morning |

2dugged: I asked you a question the other day, seems you were short of words to reply, the way you shout Jonathan upandan one would think he is the only president that has ever ruled this country since 1960, yes Jonathan was a failure because only a failed man will turn his back on his people and surround himself with hausas (who will not blink to support a fellow who hits his head on the ground like them)because he wanted a second term, but that gives you no right to exonerate every other president that has wrecked this country since independence, and buhari that made promises to Nigerians like a man ontop of a woman promising to give her the moon isn't any better considering that he has ruled this country before and even contested four times like it was his birth right to rule a second time, only to be given the mantle and he becomes clueless
Why not try to be objective for once and view things from the vantage point of the common man with no political sentiment attached, you will see better Spot on. Parochialism is now a part of our national life. The youths who are suppose to be objective in their views are the ones doing more damage. An average Nigerian now supports politicians because they love the wealth they have, or they love their physical characteristics. Mr. President and his foot soldiers have made it seem as if Nigeria became an independent country in 1999, in a bid to exonerate those who mismanaged the country before 1999. This country is not yet matured for this democracy at all cos soldiers had gone through worse situations and no cases of mutiny. Some of these military personnel are just civilians in military outfits. I understand those their back packs and other pouches can carry some food items that will sustain them for some days.
If a military man cannot harness little opportunities, and doesn't have endurance and discipline to the extent of attacking a GOC because food was not supplied for one day for a reason they don't know, I wonder where exactly lies the difference between them and my fellow civilians who may soon start demanding for my head. spot on. That is what great leaders do. To even think that governance will be simple after campaigning to fix the mess, portrays president Buhari as unserious and bereft of ideas.
