The greed of these politicians is really alarming. After the billions he has misapproriated, Akala still wants to be a minister? And that his barely educated deputy too? Chai. If it comes to pass; Naija = Over. |
Even Northerners are not this concerned about their region's backwardness in education. Life is too complicated to be bothering about issues like this I tell you. |
Amazing how people put their thinking caps on when it suits and how they take it off when it doesn't . Kudos. |
People worry about unnecessary things sha! If Lagos had an Emir and Galadimas scattered all over the town, it would be a different case. That's what they mean when they say the Quran would be dipped in the sea. People of Lagos and indeed Western Nigeria have the brave warriors of Ibadan to thank for nipping that in the bud. |
Depends on what the OP means by East. Some parts of Delta State may be regarded as East though. However, I don't think its something to bicker about. |
Misleading title. Power 'must' not remain in the south after Jonathan's tenure, let the best candidate emerge rather. |
He's planning bigger things. Don't worry over nothing folks! |
Yuguda is a very ambitious young man and he, realizing the damage that statement of his has made, is desperate to clear the situation up. Buhari never recovered from the divisive comments credited to him in the build-up to the 2003 elections. Similarly, I doubt Mr Yuguda would wriggle out of this. These unfortunate statements will never be forgotten. |
I find politics quite intriguing. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that the PDP masterminded the child-voter situation as a counter for the alleged vote-figure manipulation in the South. |
EzeUche_:The Yorubas of Ilorin would be more apt. Other Yoruba towns like Ofa, Omu-Aran etc have nothing to do with the emir. It would be unfair to grant this people their wish IMHO. The status quo as at the period of colonialism must be maintained unfortunately. |
Well, |
Frankly, I think Farouk Lawan deserves a shot. Bright young man, been in the house for how long now? I think Zoning is dead and we shouldn't even mourn it, at least as Southerners. We killed it. Let the wish of the majority carry the day. That's the way. @Dede1---- if its your opinion that Northerners can do no good without the more puzzling quota system, its up to those who plotted the death of zoning to take the life out of it. Otherwise, we should just live with it. I'm loving this. |
Tragic how you destroyed your thread, Playmode. Responding to ethnic taunts is something we must all strive to do without. You created a nice thread which could have touched so many other issues hypothetically but alas, you fell into their trap. |
ekt_bear:Where did you get this from? It is unconstitutional for anybody to have land seized from him without compensation by the Govt. Check S.28-30 of the Land Use Act. |
Big ups to the Prof. |
*yawns* |
On point. The 'development' up north is merely cosmetic. Granted, they have stretches of good roads and all but how is the common man living? I think ,for this, the political class up north is more criminal than their southern counterparts. The educated ones save for a few of them like Sanusi and Col. Umar simply do not speak up loud enough. For instance, an Hausa friend of mine, a lawyer, once defended the almajiri system of education up north claiming its 'culture'. I believe people like this are only waiting for their turn to join the same group of people who have kept their home region in darkness. Fair enough. The vast majority of them are too uneducated to hold their leaders responsible. I remember the outgoing Governor of Borno remarking on how unlucky southern governors are with the level of criticism that comes their way due to the high level of enlightenment relative to what obtains in the North in their respective states. It can be argued they all rallied round a man they perceived to be a symbol of truth and change but I feel raising Buhari to that profile is an insult to our collective history as a country. They should have done better than Buhari in my honest opinion. Well what can one say, we are all part of an underdeveloped third world country. |
Great post! I see nothing tribalistic in the original post though I cannot say the same for the other posters. " In this foreign land called Nigeria" Super. Let's hope our leaders do not fail us. Long live Yorubaland!! Long live Nigeria too sha. |
@Saga, U may need to review Admiral Nyako's ratings up there. Reports from Adamawa indicate he's piss poor in terms of vision and performance. Also, he isn't a well-educated man, had little high school education before he joined the Navy and rose to the top. You know how Northerners roll. |
There's nothing new here, IDI Maybe for folks who haven't really spent time in the country, but for peeps like me who have spent a considerable chunk of our lives up north, No. I think you should follow Beaf's advice and maybe read up whatever u see in the link he provided. Its not the job of ordinary southerners to 'save' them, that's the government's job. I'm sure you know that merely sympathizing with them is a waste of time. There's poverty in all parts of Nigeria, best believe that. Their conditions wouldn't change until their elites change and be a little more responsible. The Emir of Kano went to university in the UK and yet is sitting comfortably as the traditional and spiritual leader of a state with the most sickening number of almajiris. Hausa people , place so much premium on their leaders so by implication , they need to do much more than they have been doing over the years. |

Ileke and co. U guys seriously need to chill. This thread is about young people who have been cut in their prime. How do you all manage to still bring this sort of behavior here? Why are you all this insensitive? If somebody or a group of people have offended you on nairaland, you should know that there is life outside Nairaland. |

This is just too sad. Too sad. The helplessness. The realization and the shock that one's life is about to be taken just like that. The mob. The screams. Family. Friends. Sometimes I can't help but wonder what the purpose is actually, Why? |

Ajimobi's wife is Igbo from Delta and is Christian too. OP is probably idle. |
adconline: houvest:I'm lost too brothers. |
Well, Kano people voting Kwakwanso in as Governor goes to prove that the violence we saw after the announcement of the Presidential election results was because a Christian southerner won the elections not some revolutionary bullcrap some people have been feeding us with. The 'great' CPC only won in one state, Nassarawa, a state that declined to vote for Buhari. I think it should be more obvious that the CPC and Buhari never had a chance to win and that many people voted for the individual and not the party. Buhari could not have won the elections and neither did he deserve it. |
Kilode?!:On point. I never really supported the idea of people who are largely untested in any real administrative capacity coming out all of a sudden demanding for the Presidency, Why should people like Fashola , Amaechi, Duke serve as vp to people like Ribadu and indeed Sanusi? Why? Who is more experienced? Or is handling a govt agency a tougher task than governing a state? I do not understand Lagosboy's postulations at all. Is it acceptable for neophytes like Ribadu and Sanusi to aspire for the highest office with better and more experienced peeps like Amaechi to be Vp because they are from the north? Even Dora Akunyili has a better resume than these guys. For me, Fashola and co would be really dumb to accept such a platform. This is one of the reasons southerners just didn't want to know whatever Buhari was bringing to the table. That 'born to rule' complex is what the core north would do well to get rid of. As for Ribadu joining the CPC, I think it would be a bad move. He can leave the ACN if he feels hard done but we should note that a candidate who couldn't even win his state was always gonna be a hard sell. People are rushing to cast aspersions on the party leadership without considering that this is *ng* and that Ribadu could as well have been paid off by Jonathan. The CPC brand is damaged here in the South justifiably or otherwise. |
Those who bothered to reply Junkie and Idi derailed the thread. Learn to ignore their posts. Signed. Let every individual choose where he/she wants to serve. If you wanna serve up north in Potiskum, so be it. Go have a nice time. |
