The statement you made up there is a very ignorant one to say the least. Let's not exaggerate the opposition the North or the Federal government controlled North here. Edwin Clark is just a bigoted talkative that is after his own pocket, he is not in the league of Enahoro, Zik , Awo and the etc you mentioned. Talking tough is not thesame thing as actually doing it, secondly Asari Dokubo is not a Hero either neither was his criminal sabotage activities legendary, anyone in oil bunkering and pipeline vandalization business can gain access to weapons and cause more havoc. Just because the FG decided to play soft and placate criminals with gifts of cash that only affected he and his kind does not mean he was fighting for the people of the ND against Northerners, that is bullshit. The real heroes that have actually looked the northern controlled FG and the whole of the northern oligarch and said, "though we may not have the wherewithal, political and military support as the Northern control FG, even with assistance from parts of the South to the FG" and said, "4uck Nigeria, we are leaving even if it meant fighting with our bare hands" are the Ojukwu controlled Biafrans not Edwin Clark and Dokubo making worded threats.
No other section of this country have ever been as daring as these Biafrans even though today they have been reduced to unsupported disenchanted and disgruntled set of Igbo people. I have no respect for the likes of Edwin Clark whose words flow with the ebb and tides of politics.

No serious person should pay any mind to these two dubious cowardly characters, ijawcitizen and whyzbyfra; it is thesame aljaherem with his childish divide and rule antics.
Seriously, it is so easy to decipher his intent, what a cowardly Hausa Goat he is. If you want to diss igbo people, why not come out like a human being that is sure of his wits and intelligence to do so? Why hide behind ijaw names and spew crap, you don't even live in the east to start; just because you can afford to go to google and get news and ijaw titles does not make you any smart or informed about what goes on in the east. Niger delta is not equal to ijaw people there igbos, kalabari, calabar, Oron, edo and so on, it is a dubious attempt to even try to use one tribe in the east against another tribe. If only you were an Ijaw person for real, I would have engaged you, at least I will know I am getting the real views of an Ijaw person(irrespective of whether I like it or not) but to descend so low to engage a coward, an imposter that does not feel comfortable arguing from the stance of his real tribal identity says a lot about this eeediot. When you are ready to be man enough to say I am hausa and these are my views about how the relationship of the ijaw ppl and Igbo people will be if they stay together then one can reply to your bigoted drivel. Nobody should pay these eeediot any mind by getting angry at the ijaw tribe, he is not ijaw, it does not matter how many ijaw sounding monikers he uses or how much of the traditions of ijaw or the goings-on in the polity of the east that he claims to be aware of, he is a coward and is reading all that from articles he got from google, any eeediot can be anything on NL if only you can ask google the right questions. funnyx: I do not intend to take the debate personal in any way,why should I? You may be taking my post out of context as I'm just trying to state that we should avoid making a sweeping/generalised statement about another region or tribe as evident from your earlier posts. If the original article was written by a Yoruba man I will probably understand your reaction but that was not the case.
There is nothing like generalization here and stop pretending like you do not know that a Yoruba person likely wrote that article, this is not the first time such an article or debate is coming up on NL. . you can even ask DayoKanu how many times he and I had debated this particular subjected. There is nothing personal there, we are all giving our views and analysis, nobody is interested in insulting the Yoruba tribe, not me but I wont pretend either to give my opinion even if it is not popular. You don't have to like my views on this subject but it is important that you respect, that's all.

funnyx: Unfortunately you are doing what you accused others of doing which is pettiness.Let's stop listening to hear say and get over too emotional with the current politics, its seems every one is quick to side with his tribe or region and do not bother to think twice before making a sweeping statement about other tribes/region.
In the end we all have to agree that 2015 is still far and a lot can happen between now and then, so instead of getting defensive or making unguarded statements about other tribes why not use the same energy to unite ourselves to demand for good governance from the current govt of the day?. Truth be told no one and I repeat no one can come out to say he knows how each region will vote especially when the election is still far away and no aspirant has been declared as any party's candidate, the analysis of the writer is his personal opinion to which he his entitled to so don't use that as an avenue to say yoruba are this or Yoruba are that or loosing their relevance bullsh1t. Yoruba are always comfortable in the opposition and I believe my people will vote for whoever they believe will protect their interest. So if you want to fault the article that is fine but there is no point making statements that are not only insensitive but lack any form of substance.
Guy don't get touchy with me abeg, I am only discussing politics not tribes or Yoruba, no need to come up to me with per-suppositions and assumptions of what you think I am saying. I don't do tribal mudslinging neither do I shy away from political discussions steeped with heavy tribally parochial sentiments. If you have nothing to contribute why not just ignore me and just read, no need to take the debate personal or try tell me what to discuss and what not to discuss, as long as I am not insulting the Yoruba tribe.

Gbawe obviously is arguing from afar so his error can be excused. But good a thing you corrected him.
remark D: Hello, Gbawe:

Good morning, sir.

I read your posts with keen interest when I see them (as I'd observed over time they're void of nonsense and street/ggabbage talk oozing from most posters with no manners, especially when making an opposing comment). Having said that, this your post left me with an unsettling question... even before I finished... at some point i wondered if you "see" what you just said the way I see it and how it came across.

In the politcal arena of our country, when the word "Herd mentality" .. (guess that is two words lol) is mentioned... irrespective of its accuracy, your people (has a better flow i think than saying "the Yorubas" will be the ones believed to exhibit such behavior (at least, more than other groups in Nigeria).

I have heard the saying that Yorubas don't vote anything that is not Yorua. Our last election showed that to some degree... there was no Yoruba candidate (of/from the major parties anyways), and we saw how nonchallant they were and recorded low turnouts in that part of the country; even though the supposed Yoruba party was in the race, problem was: with a non-Yoruba face ... must confess I'm tempted to insert a tribal-marked-face joke here lol).

The reaction of the Yorubas to Chinua Achebe's last book kind of denotes this herd mentality as well...I say that because the Yorubas felt he had spread whatever effect it had on Awolowo's behavior to ALL Yorubas... it seemed ridiculous: I mean, you can argue the facts and say your mind etc, but saying he'd insulted the Yorubas, i must say, didnt do any good to Igbos perception of the Yorubas. One will say it goes both ways, that is, Chinua's comments did no good to the Igbo-Yoruba relationship and any progress that might have been made over the years. Anywho, enough bandwidth has been committed to that topic anyways, so lemme not spend any more time on it.

So yeah, i'd like to know if you agree with me that herd mentality, which you stated in your post, though can generally be seen across the board in Nigeria... is more, greatly, and I will go as far as saying characteristic of the Yorubas.

Thanks for reading.
Cheers,
Remark D.

PoliticsRe: Yoruba May Determine Who Wins The Presidency In 2015 by rhymz(m): 11:43am On May 08, 2013
funnyx: The article was not written by a Yoruba man, did you read the article at all?
I did. . it has parochialism written all over it. There was no mention of the author's name so how did you know it was not written by a Yoruba person? Apart from Gbawe whom I believe his opposition to the GEJ presidency is understandable, the rest of the Yoruba commentators can be petty when issues are about GEJ. They like to give this delusional suggestion that the SW decides who becomes Nigeria's president even when evidence shows otherwise, in fact, here are the figures that came from the "extremely influential SW states:
OYO States-484758
Ogun- 309170
Lagos-1,281688
Osun-188409
Ekiti-135009
ondo-387376

Abeg make una help me do the calculation, sum it all up and tell me how this region votes can affect elections strongly.
By the way I exaggerated the total votes from the southwest region in my earlier post:here is the real total figure 2786410. So much for deciding the outcome of an election. I suspect the SW is gradually losing relevance hence the constant attempts to always shout and tout about the region being the deciding region of any election. The same way they they arrogated such powers before the 2011 elections only to come out with a dismissal total votes. una wan start una shouting again, SW will not decide anything jare, go tell such claptrap to political ode.
PoliticsRe: Yoruba May Determine Who Wins The Presidency In 2015 by rhymz(m): 9:39am On May 08, 2013
Not to sound insulting to the Yoruba political class but I have noticed that they are in the habit of exaggerating the relevance of the SW votes in the way they tailor and talk about votes from there. This is not the first time I have seen such antics. Truth be told, the SW is just a sub-region, they can never have a voting effect similar to any region no matter how much noise they make about some imaginary effect they are going to have in the next elections.

Like I have always reminded the people of the SW that like to bask in such wishful thinking, how much effect did the SW vote had on the victory of GEJ in the last elections? Lagos was the only SW state that could deliver up to a million votes to the GEJ and the reason for that is so obvious; Lagos is not your typical Yoruba state. We are yet to see this "almighty" voting power replicated in the core Yoruba states, even Oyo state with a fairly big population could not even give up to a million votes yet you lot are in the habit of exaggerating how your votes can cause any candidate to win or lose, so laughable and childish. I dare any of you to come up with the total votes from the SW to GEJ in the last election and compare it to those from other sub-regions, I can bet it that SW probably was the least or close to the least. make no mistake about it, Jonathan still would have been the clear winner if those SW votes, about 4.5 million votes were removed from his total votes. abeg make una stop to dey shout SW like say each SW person votes go count as 2 at the poles. . na wa o

Now I am going to worsen your mental delusions by pointing clear lies by your biblical God;
Let Me Start with:
Gen 3 vs 6
In this delusional biblical verse, God warns Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit from the tree of evil, that if they do they will die. Funny enough, it is worthy to note that thesame Adam lived for 930 years according to thesame bible in
Genesis 5 vs 5. Apparently, God lied to Adam to scare him, in fact, the Devil was actually the one that told Adam the truth.
Here is another big lie from your "big God" :
2. Gen 4 vs 16
According to this 4cking verse, as punishment for killing his brother, Cain will be a vagabond and a fugitive "Yet in just a few verses ( Gen 4:16-17)
Cain will settle down, marry, have a son, and build a city. . .lol. . This is not the activity one would expect from a fugitive and a vagabond. Abi your God forget to administer im punishment ni?
You need more lies from your God??
PoliticsRe: 2015: It’s Either A Northerner Or No More Nigeria - Farouk Adamu Aliyu by rhymz(m): 5:18pm On May 07, 2013
This says a lot about the default mindset of a northerner. Imagine a former member of the house of representative throwing all caution and decency to the wind to fight dirty and gutter in a war of words and threats with an ex-millitant war-lord. See how insensitive and parochial these power drunk thugs from the north can be. With these drunks there is no where to draw the lines even when by virtue of their positions and political status, decency and courtesy demand that you tailor your words with the right doses of caution and political maturity.

Anyway, if splitting this country is what he and his fellow want then they should know that the whole of the South is ready, infact, many easterners, Igbos in particular have long wanted a split. This revelation will no doubt come as a soothing relief them.

I like the fact that he now realizes that with a united east it is almost impossible to just boast about Northern numbers unless he goes tribal and use their usual divide and rule antics, singling out the ijaw population to compare with the whole of the North population as if the whole of the region is peopled by one particular tribe only. His tribal antics was very much intentional, trying to make it seem like only Ijaws share the need for JEG to be given a second chance if he "dares" to yearn for it. We are not dumb Mr Aliyu, Ijaws may be 5million as you erroneously claim but the whole of the east is not five million neither is the debate about Ijaws vs the North.

VillageBoi: I think you have completely missed the point. We all know they were expensive; we were not asking why they were but was showing the figures of what Nigerians spend at the cinemas which is quite frankly peanuts in comparison to film budgets.
My guy, there is something you are not putting into consideration before making conclusions that Nigerians are not big on spending at cinemas or seeing movies in general.
The fact here is that investment is still coming in the way of "movie going" or going out of the house to see a movie at the cinemas. The greatest impedence here is not lack of interest to see these movies at the cinemas but the availabilty of major cinemas that actually get the viewing rights to latest movies soon as they are released. Apart from Lagos, Abuja and Portharcourt, there is hardly anywhere in Nigeria one can go out to see this movies. Trust me, they will hit the million dollar mark if it was that easy to just get tickets anywhere out side of these big 3 and see these movies either simulteneously or closely after previous showings at majors cinemas in major states.
You don't expect Nigerians in say owerri for instance to start travelling down say to Portharcourt just because they want to see a movie, that will be preposterous. There should be some effort as well by movie investors to spread standard cinemas like those of Silvabirds in other Nigerian towns, it does not always have to be Lagos PH and Abuja, more Nigerians live outside these states that want to see these movie at the cinemas too.

You guys are responding as if Soludo is intellectually better and more reasonable than El-Rufai. I expected Nigerians after reading Soludo's powerful C.V to take a look at his opponent's(in this case) own rather than singing dull praises for Soludo as if he is the first to make a first class. For the of you who may not know. El-rufai is also a scholar and had he opted for acadamics rather than civil service, he would have equalled or surpassed Soludo's academic achievements.Just for your knowledge this is a brief view of his own modest C.V
Nasir el-Rufai was born in Daudawa of the Faskari Local Government Area in the northern state of Katsina. He was the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and member of the Federal Executive Council, the highest decision making body in Nigeria from 2003 – 2007. He attended various academic and professional programmes at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, University of London, Harvard Business School, Arthur D. Little School of Management in Massachusetts, Georgetown University School of Foreign Services in Washington, D.C. and the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He holds a first class honours degree in Quantity Surveying (1980), a Masters Degree in Business Administration (1984), a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (1985), a Bachelor of Laws(second class upper) from Harvard University (2008), Master of Public Administration (2009), and has attended several programs on Privatization and Leadership. He established and ran what became a successful consulting practice, el-Rufai & Partners, between 1982 and 1998. He also held management positions with two international telecommunications companies, AT&T Network Systems International BV and Motorola, Inc. In October 2001, he was conferred a national honour, OFR (Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria) by the Federal Government of Nigeria while serving as the director general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and the secretary of the National Council of Privatisation where he spearheaded the privatisation of many government owned companies. He is happily married with children. In 2005, he was conferred D.Sc (honoris causa) by the University of Abuja, Nigeria.

Amala can never ever pass for fufu wth are you smoking, it could maybe pass off as kokonte not fufu.
You just shot yourself in the foot. You are the one who should go and research history since it is clearly obvious you are speaking through your bottom especially the slave trade as even today in Ghana there slave trade castles such as Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle and Osu Castle(Fort Christianborg) are amongst tourist attractions.

Built in 1482 by Portuguese traders, Elmina Castle was the first European slave-trading post in all of sub-saharan Africa. Located on the western coast of present-day Ghana, it was originally built to protect the gold trade but following its capture by the Dutch in 1637, it came to serve the Dutch slave trade with Brazil and the Caribbean. The castle came under British ownership in the 1800s.

Cape Coast Castle is one of a number of "slave castles", fortification in Ghana built by Swedish traders, originally for trade in timber and gold, later used in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Other Ghanaian slave castles include the Portuguese foundation of Elmina Castle (later Dutch) and Fort Christiansborg. They were used to hold slaves before they were loaded onto ships and traded in the Americas and the Caribbean. This “gate of no return” was the last stop before crossing the great Atlantic Ocean. Please do yourself a favour and at least research more about the slave trade. Ignorance is Bliss.

I am not going to argue with you any longer, i do not have the time and its obvious that you are not knowledgeable in a lot of things from the above post. Lets just agree to disagree. We have already ascertained that akpu is not fufu so lets leave it at that.

I never said that fufu is just synonymous to Ghanaians just like Jollof rice is not synonomous to Ghanaians and Nigerians but their origin came from the wolof people. Its obvious that we are talking about two different types of food as you can see and ppl have said that it is different and taste different so pls lets leave it as that.

here is a picture of kokonte
You are an eeediot for resorting to insults when you can't anymore defend your lies. I don't care how much angry you get because I wont let you tell a lie here or misinform others, the bottom line is that Ghana did not invent fufu or taught the art of making or eating to other African countries especially Nigerians.
Ghana was not the only place were slaves were taken or have relics of slave trade, go to badagry you prolly will write a whole book from the relics and their associated stories there, that still does not give any docummented evidence to claim that Ghana invented fufu. And you are a fool if you think that white Amala cant pass for what ghanaians call fufu, go figure, you lame-brained BIMBO!

Lol when you think of Ghana the first thing that comes to mind is fufu. We are not saying that other Africans do not eat fufu (Go and ask everyone outside what they know about Ghana and the first food they will tell you is fufu) Jollof rice originated from the wolof ethnic group but a lot of African countries still eat it regularly just like fufu. I just googled akpu and it does not look at all like our fufu more like a food we call banku in Ghana so clearly there is a difference. There is no need to get over sensitive about this issue. Akpu originated from Nigeria and Fufu origiated from Ghana. If it makes you feel better for you to claim our fufu originated from Nigeria then feel whatever you need to feel to make yourselfs feel better it's no train smash. There are different types of Ghanaian fufu such as Plaintain, cocoyam etc while you said you guys only eat cassava not plaintain or cocoyam which already makes it different as we have variety.

Below the first two pics is your akpu and the last two is what we call banku
Madam, I will continue to correct this wrong impression for as long as it takes, Fufu did not come from Ghana, I have noticed most of the claims online about its origins being from Ghana have largely been from Ghanaians themselves and some misinformed non-Africans or non west Africans that probably got such information from Ghanaian claims.
Like I said before, Fufu is a generic term or name for starchy semi-solid paste made from cassavas and plantain, it is not an exclusive Ghanaian food or borrows its origin from Ghana. That is a repeated lie my dear, I don't remember my father or mother exciting us with stories about how their ancestors learnt the art of making fufu from Ghanaians, there is no known record or documented evidence that I know of or is generally known anywhere that fufu is a Ghanaian food. If you do your research well, you will be surprised to trace its origins to slave trade and not Ghana. My forefathers have been eating fufu before the names Nigeria and Ghana came to exist.
I have watched a couple of videos of what Ghanains call fufu, in Nigeria for instance, they wont pass as fufu both in textur and looks. Nigerian fufu is very different from the Ghanaian Fufu and even eaten differently, you dare not eat Nigerian fufu in thesame plate you have the soup, you wont even enjoy it. In ghana for instance, both white and black amala will pass for fufu but in Nigerian no trained eye will call Amala fufu. Your attempt to differentiate Akpu from fufu is laughable especially to Nigerians, it shows your limited knowledge of your own claims, if you knew anything about fufu as you claim, you would know that it has varients as you move from one west or central african country to another yet their origins owe themselves independly from countries to countries to the point your best bet of a common origin of fufu will be slavery. 90% of Nigerians that eat fufi donllt even know that Ghana eats fufu too let alone claim to invent it, yet in the limits of their beliefs they might be justifiably right in their claims just as you. Go and do a proper research if you realy want to know, fufu is not synonymous to Ghanaians, at least to the knowledge of other west and central African people that eat fufu.

zomby: Before you start throwing stone at this man, please get to know the following things:

Mike is a very shy man, he doesn't like to be surprised. This is why most people that know him (including Dangote), will tell you that "you can not get to see or reach Mike, but he can reach you at any time"
He has been this way or done things this way for many years. You do not expect a 60 year old man to start doing new things.

Mike gets extremely uncomfortable when he doesn't clearly know what is going on, surprising a man with this type of state of mind is never a good idea.

Mike is not happy when he is not totally in control, he is one of those people you do not want to surprise. He has to know what is going on at every second. This is one of the reasons why he remains the most successful Nigerian business man of all time.

Mike gets very agitated when he is around too many strangers, he likes to know where is going and who is going to be there. It is not a good idea to attempt to surprise this type of man. Apart from his domestic employees, he doesn't have too many friends around him, he mostly prefers to be alone. This type of life style has worked in his favor for this long, so why change now?

Mike prefers to be notified in advance whenever he is to be involved in any events. He wants to know everything from A to Z about anything he is involved.

Mike loves attention, but only attention that is coming from far away. Accepting awards or praise in person is never his thing. He prefers all these things done through text messages, newspaper, emails, but never in person.

Whoever put this surprise party together should have asked somebody before making such a career ending move. I wish this individual all the best, but something tells me that he or she is in a bowl of hot and spicy soup.

I'm 100% sure that Mike isn't too happy about how all went down on Friday.

Do not be so quick to call people out when they're not doing what you expect them to do. You just never know why they've chosen to react certain way to certain situation. Just respect them and let them be.

Just my 2 cents.
Zomby.
load of crap! Mike is an elderly Yoruba man that understands very well the implications of his actions. For a moment I thought you were talking about a spoilt 17yr teenager that throws temper tantrums at every hint of displeasure. I doubt he would have done that if the gathering was not his staff but that of ill-bred politicians that have their hands on his balls ready to squeeze them if he misbehaved like a child.
The only explanation to his stoopid behaviour is pride and lack of regards for his workers. Na only glow im get and im dey behave like some immortal being what will he now do if he was half as rich as zuckerbeg not to talk of Bill gates and co. . is he even as half as reserved or shy as these two well deserving champs? Abeg make we hear o!

ItsModella: Yam itself is a starchy food. So you add yam to cassava to reduce the starch? That's adding starch to starch to reduce the starch. grin grin

ItsModella: The Yorubas refer to akpu as fufu. Akpu is just the Igbo name for what the Yoruba and other people in South-Western Nigeria call fufu. So saying fufu is distinctively Ghanaian is laughable. The Togolese eat fufu, the Liberians eat fufu, those in Benin Republic eat fufu (and yes, they call it fufu). So what are you saying?
exactly. . . Infact, I used to think fufu was a Yoruba word, till today, when I go home and mention fufu to my grand mother she usually does not understand what it is I am talking about until I say akpu. . . It is just like Ogi and akamu. . . Most of my cousins that grew up in the east dont know what ogi is.

GH Swagg: LOL! The average Ghanaian never thinks of yam when it comes to fufu. We don't eat pounded yam. That is a Nigerian dish.
. . .hahahah. . Neither does an average Nigerian think Ghanaian when fufu is mentioned.
