NYSC › NYSC MDGs: For Real Or A Game Of Fraud? by rhymz(op): 9:48pm On Apr 12, 2013
justice: Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing this piece to expose the sheer corruption and financial sleeze going on in the NYSC/MDGs/WAP scheme with the hopes that through your reputable blogsite, I and other fellow victims of this set-up will get the needed attention that will possibly turn the searchlight of anti-graft bodies in the right direction. That way we can begin to get answers and solutions.

I believe the NYSC/MDGs/WAP Scheme initiative was set up by the MDGs and the Federal Government to help eradicate poverty (one of the goals of the MDGs) the empowerment of young graduates who are in the federal government orientation programme, NYSC. However, from the turn of events, it would appear that this noble scheme has been hijacked by some unscrupulous public officials involved in the execution of the programme, giving the shabby way we have been handled; our discharge certificates witheld as collateral for loans that does not seem to ever come and a worthless NYSC letter of reference that has continued to be the object of rejection and derision by every prospective employer.

With this brief introduction, I am going to be more detailed. Knowing how vengeful and wicked corrupt public officials can be, I am going to be writing this exposition incognito, I shall be using the psuedonym Justice.

I was one of the participants of the NYSC/MDGs/WAP 7th Edition 2nd stream in december 2012. The programme was a 10-day empowerment training program in Agriculture and Agro-businesses from which one could choose any two Agro- businesses in the list to set up after the training. At the end of the training, we were told we would be given an interest-free loan ranging from N150,000-N300,000 depending on how capital intensive the choice of Agro-business a participant chooses.

According to the government lawyer
( whom I suspect is also an accomplice in the fraud as he would not answer certain questionable clauses in the shabily prepared MOU that had the potentials to put young participants just starting out in a vicious debt if the business should suffer any failure as there was no part of the MOU that addressed contingencies) the following pre-requisites must be met to be qualified for the loan:
1. Get a guarantor who must be a level 12 civil servant if in the civil service or a professional in the private sector with a minimum of 10-15yrs in practice (can't remember exactly the number) and a registered member of a professional body.
(a) These guarantors shall submit photocopies of their I.D cards for civil servants and membership certificates for those in the private sector.
(b) They must agree to be the recipients of legal actions or bear responsibility should the participant they stand for defaults on payment of the loan, irrespective of the reasons.
2. Our NYSC discharge certificates shall be witheld in their custody as a collateral for the already guaranteed Loan ( that potentially threatened prospective guarantors) until when the loan is repaid.

Inspite of all these very obvious flaws in the MOU with potentials to turn one into a debtor, so much for a programme that supposedly was set up to empower young people just starting out, we went ahead to meet their criteria, and submitted as directed. I know at this point, anyone reading this piece will ask the very obvious question: why did we not opt out of such agreements if we were not comfortable with it? The truth is, we couldn't do that, not after we had attended the full 10-day training, they threatened to deal with anyone that dared to opt out after recieving the training, the only way anyone could opt out was to pay the full cost of the training which they pegged at around N85,000-N100,000.

Anyway, in place of our witheld discharge certificates, we were given a reference letter from NYSC which has proved to be worthless both to purpose and in the quality of the paper it was wriiten on.
Now it has been four months since we attended the programme in december, we are yet to get any loan, our certificates or any explanation from the officials why nothing is happening. Bad enough, one can't even apply for any job without prospective employers requesting for one's NYSC discharge certificate. Efforts to get to the NYSC/MDGs WAP officials have proved impossible, it is like most of the numbers given are non-functional. Those that have taken their time to visit the NYSC secretariate have only been made to go through needless bureaucratic bottleneck that is frustrating and tiring.
In conclusion Sir/Madam, you will be helping to fight corruption if you post this piece on your very popular blog.
Thank You in anticipation for your understanding and cooperation.

Yours sincerely
Victim of the Nigerian corrupt system

taking as if u r d mouth piece of America military. another victim of America propaganda[/quote]I don't even know how to respond to you, especially when it is obvious I am dealing with a person that is yet to understand war history and capabilities of the countries involved. I know you do not know about what you yapping here besides the general malevolence folks like Cap22 have towards western power to the point he always like to see things through the jaundiced lens of emotions and not practical realities.
When Korea was divided into North and South, the communist USSR were in control of the northern part and were even gaining grounds towards the south until the Americans stopped it, and finally, two American highly placed soldiers drew the boundaries and divided korea almost equally into north and south. The south allied with the US and even becames a proctectorate of the US and the North alligned itself with USSR which then was just as big both in land mass and population as the US. Today, who is doing well and getting all the support both militarily and economically between the two koreas? Between the two, tell me who has gotten the real support from its allies not just in words but in Actions? Russia of today is not a serious military to reckon with or in thesame league as the American Military of today. If Russia is as powerful as some of you world politics learners seem to believe how come, Russia and China combined have not been able to stop the US -whose influence in the UN and other Western superpowers-from dealing so much economically catastrophic blows through economic sanctions and isolation, that is how much of a superpower they are, the act where China and Russia talk. Thesame thing will be the fate of the Yung fat Kim Fool if he keeps tempting his guts by insisting they are going to launch test their mediocre long range Musudan missile which is believed to be able to travel about 2000miles distance enough to reach Japan, SouthKorea and even Huwai in the US and you think in your thick skull that these countries will let NK launch such a missile without attempting first to deal with them severly?
Like I said already, Japan has deployed her PAC-3 nuclear interceptor in Tokyo in readiness for NK's defiance, that is if that fat kid with a fat head jas got the balls anyway.
Trust the Americans, love or hate them, they don't take to threats lightly wether percieved or imaginrd they too have already moved two navy missile- defence ships close to the Korean peninsular to monitor any NK launching of missile and to intercept the missiles if they threaten any of their bases or allies in the region. All NK allies can do is watch and give word of support and sometimes mediocre Russian military weapons, they wont dare comfront the American military on behalf of NK, they know better than to try such. Russia does not even have the economy to fight any serious full scale war with the US, ANYWAY ENOUGH OF THE LECTURES, LET NK DARE THEIR GUTS FIRST.
Foreign Affairs › Re: North Korea To Launch MISSILE Today!! by rhymz(m): 9:40pm On Apr 10, 2013
NaijaTalkTown: China, Russia and Iran seems to be backing North Korea but they won't show this now for intellectual reasons. Even though the U.S has the lagerst military budget annually, their military personels are less than half of that of China, and less than quarter of that of China, Russia, Iran and North Korea combined.
I think the Americans have decided to threat this case with extreme care since they take it as a major threat. This is the reason why Isreal, which is believed to be the brain behind America has decided to stay out of it physically.
Even the Japanese are willing to side with their Asian counter-part as long as they keep their "nuclear weapons" off the Japanese territories.

I'm begining to see some reason in the prophecies of Saddam Hussein
embelished rubbish. You obviously are getting your quotes from the conspiracy theories cap22 has fed many of you with. The US are deliberately making NK look like they pose any threat so they don't look like bullies and gain more bad blood than they already have. China, Russia and Iran can not do shit to the US let alone with other of its allies like Britain and even south Korea.
China's military is still very mediocre when compared to the US, Russia is even worse as all it has for now to boast of are its old nuclear warhead arsenals which can easily be deflected with missile interceptors. As for Iran, don't even start, they are not known for having a serious military. China has just 300,000-400,000 military personnel more than the US, I don't see how that measures up the military might amd sophistication of the US.
North Korea can not do shit to any of the country it is threatening a showdown with; shey na Japan, US or South Korea with like six times North korea's military busget? I dare that fat boy to launch that long range missile and risk annihilation.
Foreign Affairs › Re: North Korea To Launch MISSILE Today!! by rhymz(m): 9:24pm On Apr 10, 2013
seun0622: I am quite surprised the way many folks here paints the whole picture about north Korea. FYI, nuclear weapons are acquired in order to earn respect from other nations. The use of it is always the last resort because it has far more devastating effects. I wish you people would read the history of north Korea and stop listening to CNN propaganda. North Koreans have lived with too many international sanctions for a very long time, this has made them truly independent, tho with few allies. This is a country pushed to the wall. Few months ago when they launched nuclear weapon laden Satellite into space, that action sent a warning signal to the whole world especially America. If you think the young leader of NK is joking, take a closer look at those within his cabinet, they are mostly people that worked with his late father . No country dares threaten America without an almost immediate military response but NK has done this for the last few months now but all America could do was do a test flight of their bombers over the Korean pacific. NK is not just threatening now, they have the said weapon and i m sure further provocation might make them unleash it.
Guy shut up abeg, you are not the only one that has read about their history. North Korea can make all the noise they want, they wont dare try the obvious. Let them launch it first na. . . already Japan has stationed its Nuclear missile interceptor, same as the US, they have already station two nuclear powered naval ships at the penninsular just incase. NK will be verging on suicide if they dare launch a long distance missile that could reach Japan, South Korea or even Huwai in the US. Already, the short distance missles they launched that has earned them tougher sanctions from the US and UN and many other western countries has taken its effect on their economy. All they can do is sound hawkish and use provocative war rhetorics, when it comes to walking the talk, Fat Kim jong Fool the 2nd cant do jack. Even China cant do jack.

As far as I am concerned and an Igbo person, Ohanaeze are speaking for themselves, their relevance as far as an average Igbo is concerned is limited to their group. No sane Igbo person with a good head on his neck will support moves that will make the Federal government forget the fight for justice for their kiths and kins killed by Bokoharam only to travel all the way from the East to the North to voice some stewpid support for these same killers.
Ohanaeze has outlived its importance and has no relevance, there is nothing in Ohanaeze that suggests the mental input of Igbo sons and Daughters, all they do is play politics and make foolish self-serving decisions that runs contrary to the positions of an average Igbo person. God forbid the day Igbos will come out and say they support their own killers' pardon, Ohanaeze speak for yourselves, you bunch of self-serving crooks using the Igbo tribe as a means to financially position yourselves.

Politics › Voices Of Northern Groups Against Amnesty For Bokoharam by rhymz(op): 8:34am On Apr 10, 2013
Lately there has been a barrage of support, voices and clamour from mostly leaders of Northern Nigeria, the hot-bed of the BokoHaram menace for the federal government to grant amnesty to the BokoHaram Sect.
We, the southerners especially the Igbo tribe have largely been the recipients and victims of the BokoHaram scourge, inspite of these damning facts, southerners have wildly thrown their voices against any move or plan to give AMNESTY to BokoHaram-especially in the way it is being set up with cash gifts- as a way to solving the problem of terrorism.
While the media for reasons best known to it, has mostly concentrated on Muslims and northern leaders that have openly called for the federal government to grant BokoHaram Amnesty, thesame media attention and light have not been given to other groups from the northern region-both islamic and Christian groups alike that are vehemently against such a plan.
Recently ahead of the committee on Amnesty for BokoHaram members by JEG, an Islamic group, "Muslims against Terror", warned that granting such Amnesty would plunge the country into more security crisis.
The group further questioned the rationality behind the Amnesty by asking;
“Boko Haram (members) themselves do not ask for amnesty, because they know that this is haram. So who is asking?”

The group wondered, adding that it was sure those asking had a lot to hide just like the president trying to force the amnesty down the throats of the members who have rejected it.
They further questioned the BOKOHARAM claims of following islamic tenets;
“Who and what holy book gave them the right to shoot at and toss bombs at people playing cards? Is this the law of Shariah that people playing cards or drinking alcohol should be killed?"
Just to take a quote from another northern group, against Amnesty for BokoHaram, the Northern Christian Forum:
“Boko Haram has tried to annihilate us and our Igbo
Christian brothers and now the government is talking
about granting them amnesty without saying a word
about the people they bombed, slaughtered and
traumatized"
“Who underdeveloped the Muslim North?
It is definitely not the Jonathan government, and neither is it the Christians in the North! It is the
Northern Muslim elite that impoverished the Northern
Muslim youth"

It's quite unfortunate that these voices of reasoning apparently seem to have been drowned by the unpatriotic and insensitive blaring voices of the northern elitist groups in support of amnesty for supporters.
We need more northern voices speaking against these killers and their supporters, so it does not look like every northerner or muslim is a bokoharam sympathizer and supporter.

SAFO: Yes but who's policing these Nigerian youths? What statistics are being recorded? What rehabilitation facilities solely dedicated to juvenile delinquents are being funded and fully operated to enforce laws governing youths?

The only reason why we can even gauge the western world's juvenile delinquency rates are because these types of programs and standards are available to us.

What numbers do we have to say that the Nigerian juvenile delinquency rates are not on par with the western world?
that still is can not pale the fact that juvenile deliquency is a major problem in the west in comparison here.

Nigeria has never had a cerebral First Lady, so unfortunate.
From the way the woman is carelessly asking government to "forgive", it is very clear that she lacks understanding of the problem or what is going on.
All she sees are false sense of injustice done to northern youth and indirectly is asking government to do thesame to Northern youth if they so want the murders to stop.
Turai is a typical case of the very man mentally docile northern muslim women, who are so detached from the main issues of the society and are held in selective religious bondage that do not apply to their males. She has that slave-woman mentality and aura when she talks, so simple-minded and disconnected. They don't even know how to solve their own problems let alone help somebody else.
In her "forgiveness" speech she forgot to mention that BokoHaram is in the business of killing, you don't forgive killers and dash them money to stay calm cos they wont stay calm forever. Anyway, there goes the opinion of a simple-minded brain incapable of understanding the political intricacies of the topic she wants yap about. Maybe next time, silence would be golden.

Kwajay: Jonathan, forgive Boko Haram — Turai

https://punch.iwayafricanigeri.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Turai-360x225.jpg

Turai, wife of former President Umaru Yar’Adua, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to forgive the Boko Haram sect as her late husband did to former militants in the Niger Delta.

The former first lady advised Jonathan not to listen to anyone who advises him not to grant the sect amnesty.

She said this in Lagos on Friday night during the Award Gala Night organised by the Niger Delta Young Professionals.

Turai said, “When Yar’Adua saw that the people in the Niger Delta, particularly the children were dying callously, he (Yar’Adua) took it upon himself to grant amnesty to the militants to ensure lasting peace.

“There is poverty in the North. What Yar’Adua did in the Niger Delta, let Jonathan do the same thing to the North.

“Mr. President should not allow his advisers to deceive him. Let him sit down and think about the insecurity in the North.”

She said she respected her late husband and would continue to do so till her death.

She also advocated youths’ empowerment, saying if the youth are empowered, the country would be empowered.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has blamed northern leaders for the continued Boko Haram violence.

The President, who was represented at the event by the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, said northern leaders had not done enough to unmask those behind the group’s activities.

He said, “When the issue of Niger Delta was raging, and I will say this with all sense of responsibility, leaders of the region, particularly the governors, were the drivers of the process.

“They reached out to the people and to the militants, they spoke and took their discussion, to an appreciable level before the Federal Government stepped in and then harnessed everything.

“What efforts are the northern leaders making? We need to learn because every incident of Boko Haram in Nigeria is situated within the geopolitical confines of a region. What are the leaders doing?

“Security agencies are not magicians – they are not spirits. These people who perpetrate these crimes do not come from the moon; they live within them. Why are they not helping the security agencies with the needed information? The problem of insecurity is not only the problem of government – it is the problem of all of us.”

He said the Federal Government was making efforts towards solving the problems.

“What we solicit from Nigerians are understanding and patience,” he stated.

He said when the late Yar’Adua and himself decided to take the initiative to address the restiveness of Niger Delta militants, they knew the people they were speaking to and knew where they could go and see them, either in their creeks, headquarters or homes.

“We reached out to them and spoke to them. We understood each other and on the basis of that, an understanding was reached and it was this understanding that was faithfully executed that led us to the amnesty in the region,” he said.

He said in the case of Boko Haram, their perpetrators were unknown, except for a few of them who spoke on the Internet or to the press.

At the awards five persons were recognised including late Yar’Adua (posthumous); Akwa Ibom Governor Godswill Akpabio; his Lagos State counterpart, Babatunde Fashola; Chairman, Arik Air, Mr. Joseph Arumemi-Ikhide and 10-year-old author, Daniella Dan-Jumbo.

People asking for atlernatives, here are the alternatives:
1. True commitment to Justice. The culture of impunity has greatly fuelled crime in this country, that is why a gang of killers can even be considered for some kind of paid forgiveness program by thesame victims.
Amnesty is the reason BokoHaram is getting justifications instead of condemnations.
Amnesty is the reason more killer gangs are getting bold to go into the business of crime and terrorism know that it pays very handsomely in the end.
Amnesty is the reason we have pacified crooks sitting and running things in the Niger Delta. Foolish Nigerians still believe that those pacified criminals in the Niger Delta wont go back to crime again in the even of a policy change by another government.
How long are we going to continue to go the easy way, seek ephemeral solutions to problems that obviously will take years solve.
Amnesty is corruption, it is bold face corruption.
Amnesty is the reason no Northerner has deemed it fit to be sincere in helping the government solve thr problem. They want shortcuts and undeserved and misplaced justice to the wrong people just because they come from their tribe or region, their crimes do not matter to them. Amnesty is the reason the are stiff scared to openly condem and work against Bokoharam but swiftly jump to the idea of offering them cash to pacify them while their crimes are overlooked.
Anyone that supports Amnesty is no less an evil person than those killers who he so boldly clamours to be rewarded for their actions.

Can you exactly explain what the big "AMNESTY" is all about?
Don't tell me you are clamouring for a MEND-style Amnesty that had the government sending illiterates and criminals to school abroad and at thesame time putting them on government's pay roll?
Unless you have another kind of Amnesty in mind, it will amount to wickedness and carelessness to grant murderers that kind package.

This one singular action by the Jonathan government will catastrophically undo the steady and visible progress they have achieved.
Right now, I am realy mad at Northern political leaders and clerics, their actions and dispostion have largely been one of convenient silence and hypocritical commentaries that seek to empathize with this murderous sect and erase the facts that the nefarious activities of these terrorists have largely been the one of gruesome murders, calculated and deliberate mass murders of majorly people from a particular religion and tribe.
It is so annoying to hear this insensitive bunch talk about the government forgiving them (people who clearly do not give a damn about government's forgiveness) without making any effort to even empathize or showing caution with the annoying way they gleefully put pressure on Jonathan not to bring justice to their murderous.
How many times have these same Northern leaders come out with thesame alacrity and pressure to talk to these murderers to stop their dastard acts again people whose religion and tribes are different from theirs. Where was their courage to condemn the recent Kano bus park bombing, the Kano state governor did not even deem it fit to visit the site of the incident or the hospitals where the victims laid half dead and maimed until 2days after. Would he have done thesame if the victims were hausa?
I don't hear them talk about what will happen to the victimized families instead they show selective empathy when their people are the victims like Sanusi hypocritically did to Kano victims forgeting that an earlier tragedy of almost thesame scale against christian churches had happened in Abuja with nobody doing anything to the victims and survivals of that blast.
Now see how fast they are in putting pressure on Jonathan to "forgive" murderers that do not even care or understand the enormity of their actions outside of their delusions. They are not even telling those murderers to drop their weapons and surrender, they just stay in the comfort of their houses and prescribe to Jonathan to "forgive" them as if they were talking about some remourseful errant childrien. Even the Turkey government that has been in fighting off terrorisn at their borders against the PKK for over 30 years now, did not so willingly accept the cease-fire stance of the PKK leaders without giving its own conditions to be met before the PKK is taken seriously let alone a rag-tag gang with very many uncoordinated splinters in the business of terrorizing armless people.

ajogbemi: Hell is surely real anyway. But,seeing its gate i comment not. but lets all know that either they see the gate or not , hell is very real n Heaven is also very real.God is revealing a lot these so no man will claim ignorance of the truth about Heaven n Hell
Heaven and Hell are real to Delusional people, that is why they keep finding it and coming up with all sorts of pictures and human descriptions to convince people. Heaven and Hell are ideological concept stolen from good and bad, positive and negetives, light and darkness, all concepts of opposites, they are as human as my fine round black a$sss, aint nothing divine or supernatural about where they exist, period! You die you seize to exist, i.e normal brain functions of human consciousness stops, that's it. Outside this reality are inexplicable bullshyte whose confusion has been worsened by religious psychos. I rest my case.

polokor60: Tribalism gave rise to nepotism which Metamorphose into the corruption and other vices in our society today.I see nothing wrong in discussing this problem in a public forum but it should be in a mature way.

Your point is that seccession should not be a subject of debate in a nigeria public forum!then you must be a dictator to insinuate that. How about the average catalonian that have the mindset that someday they ll break away from espana?Monaco did the same, serbia, czech, slovenkia, montenegro and a host of other nations did the same.Seccession is also a major topic of debate in the UK/scotland.If you intend to shy away from this important subject of debate, that's up to you but don't impose your thoughts(commandments) on seun or nairaland in general.Everybody should have freedom of expression but this privilege should not be abused.

Racism and tribalism do have some close similarities.Seun as a business exterpreneur has be modest when it comes to the checkmating of this ugly trend. You can't and ll never surpass what he is doing at the moment.
Seriously, can some of you just make your argument without sounding so angry and insulting? This thread was created so that the problem of fighting based on tribal sentiments instead of discussing the crux of the thread will be discussed here and solutions proffered.
There is a big difference between discussing the issue of tribalism, seccession, racism and so on and the nonsense hate talk that goes on on the pages of threads from that ignoble section. I can discuss tribalism without being insulting and condescending to my opponent especially when it is not presented in the suggestive manner that Seun has done on his forum which causes disaffection and unneccessary bickering based on sentimental approach to talking about it, as is the case here.
I have more Yoruba friends than any other tribe apart from Igbo, we argue over many issues, politics being the most, we don't shy from discussing controversial issues like tribalism or who did what during the war but we do not resort to insulting our tribes, making condescending remarks to one another or saying hateful things, that is not a debate or any form of opinion. I don't know about the circle of friends you move out with but amongst my very diverse circle, I know no one will dare curse or resort to the childish stuff they do here, that you think is a freedom for you to express yourself. If you believe so much in such limitless freedom of expression, go out in the real world and tell any SE, SW, Northerner or SS how disgusting you think they are and see if you will leave to tell the story of what they will do to you. Only an immatu, uneducated and intellectuall inferior person sees tribal mudslinging as a way to debate or argue his cause or convince people on any issue.
Seun is a business man and also a human being, I believe he has feelings and the moral obligation to know when to moderate his need to make money and the insidious social effect of actions emanating from such need, NL does not have to be perfect but it must be seen to make sincere effort to be so.
And finally, can you point to any reputable forum where they have childish suggestive sections for tribalism, Seccionism, racism and all those pro-stereotype discussions. All these are supposed to be just political discussions and nothing more, why paint suggestive pictures to make them attractive and exclusive for discussions if there is no ulterio motives to profit from them? It is like the owners of FB having sections dedicated to anti-gay discussions and then turn around to cry about how difficult it is for them to moderate people using the opportunity he created to send hate mails, threats, racist carricature etc, what can be more hypocritical than thathuh
Some of us need to spot the difference here. Posting rubbish to spite other people's sentiments is no freedom to be allowed in any political clime, period!!
And please reduce the aggression in your tone, you do not to take $hhhhit personal.

The Beam: If this is not intolerance I don't know what is. Because people disagree with your way of doing things, it renders all else but you mediocre and sycophants?

Jumping to conclusions based on information known only to you..........

-Do you know the logistics involved in setting up the gimmicks you are proposing?

-Do you know for a fact that he has never tried to set same up unsuccessfully?

-Do you know the funding that went into Facebook to make it what it is and you know for a fact that Mr. Seun can access the same level of funding but he's just decided to ignore the problem?

-Do you actually have a result of a survey that informed your conclusion that banning trollers on the forum will actually not lead to an influx of neutral members who'd hitherto been kept away by trollers and thus increase the total traffic on the site?

-Do you know if he's working actively around-the-clock to fix this problem?

But of course, these are all irrelevant! Shey u have ur internet connection and device now, and u can always post what you like, never mind the accuracy of your information, you can always generalize and since he's touted to be rich; BULL's EYE! What an easy target...

Methinks you and the trollers you complain so bitterly about are not that so different after all, you operate on the same principles of intolerance, myopia, bias and stubbornness the only difference being that your own language is more refined, but ur messages are more similar than you'd like to admit.
Guy don't quote if all you want to do is talk angrily and insult me, I have had enough of that that is why I created this thread. As for the rest of your posts, I have nothing to say you, it is your opinion just as those expressed in the thread are mine don't comment like you have an axe to grind with me. At this point, it is needless to debate with you, the unneccessary combative tone and language are enough pointers for me to know what is it you are up to, I don't have time for such frivolities, move on and let it rest biko!

polokor60: If you were in seun position, what ll you do to checkmate this problem?nairaland was not like this years back, yoruba and ibos are not the only ethic groups in nigeria.wait a minute, you want seun to play the role of a super human!mr man you if you know what public relations and diplomacy is then you won't be typing exploitation because when you re leading(even a little) an organisation it is also impossible to please everybody or play to the gallery all the time.Beside seun is not the root cause of this mutual hatred/bad blood between both ethnic groups,he is a business man who created a platform for the world to get a true reflection of what is happening in our society(tribalism is also a problem in our society), and so far so good he his applying the carrot and stick method. This carrot and stick method cannot be classified as exploitation. So cut him some breathing space.
If I were in Seun's position I will do all that I have advised him to do; take away the idea that there is a section for the discussion of racist, seccessionist, tribalism and secterian topics, I believe such idea was borne out of the need to exploits from people's selfish sentiments-Again, that is exploitation of the problem as I earlier pointed out.
Secondly, ban unrepentant offenders in the harshest of ways possible. Yes.
Tell his mod to stop pushing offensive threads to the front page-his silence on that too is exploitative.

EagleNest: Honestly, I never knew there is this love lost between igbos and Yoruba until I joined NL. It will do us a lot of good than harm if this problem is reduced to barest minimum. We should be more civilized!
The problem everyone else thinks it is an impossible problem to solve. Imagine sb comparing NL to FB? NL is a discussion forum, FB is basically a social networking site for connecting with old friends and meeting new ones. On NL you hace the pleaseure of paeticipating anonymously, FB does not grant such privilege. And it is this privilege that makes people think they can come in shyt and go with out qualms. FB is more personal, the audience you will most like be addressing will basically be people you know or friends of people you know. Trust me, no matter how rude anyone thinks they can get, you woulsn't want to do it to people who can easily find you out and deal with you. It is easy here to argue, debate and post trash here because you know outside of this place we are all strangers, this makes it more imperative to have a stricter way managing the forum so it does not fall in the hands of mediocres.
I don't know what people mean by freedom of expression but it should be noted that no freedom is absolute in itself. It has to fulfil certain pre-requisite before and stay within its limits to have validity, YES. You have rights to express yourself once your expression rights does not lead to harmful effects on other people. Let us be truthful for once and call a spade a spade, Seun is not doing enough, period!

Afam4eva: Many people don't know that facebook has rules just like Nairaland. They can block your account for going against their TOS which most people don't read when signing up. Nairaland also has rules that must be followed to the lattter. Failure to do so may result in a ban. This is not the only forum in the world where people are banned. Infact Nairaland happens to be one of the most passive forums in the world. Some forums can ban you for the slightest derailment and they they will not only ban you but ban your IP and make sure you never come back again. If you manage to create another account and they're able to reconcile it with an account they banned, they will also ban the new one. The fact that these things have been allowed to go on for too long doesn't make them right. The truth is that if Nairaland wants to be strict like other foreign forums, at least 50% of the membership will reduce. Forums are supposed to be a place where people interact and learn from each other and not a battle field.
Thank God you have answered them well. Nigerians can sabi glorify mediocrity no be small. Afam just said everything in a nutshell, Mr Seun is prolly afraid that if he goes strict on offenders viewership ratings might go down, he would rarher it continued and increase participation if that is not exploitation I wonder what else to call it.

According to some illiterates on this thread, Germany, Russia, and Isreal, and North Korea are stronger than the US.
Ok...we believe you.
LOL. . . Guy you are so cold with facts that it turns gibberish to ice.
Like seriously, many people just hear Russia and go heywire forgetting that Today's Russia is much smaller, less powerful, less influential and with a very battered economy that can not compete with the likes of US and UK. Russia just like Naija makes a lot of money too from its oil and gas, they will be very silly to contemplate war with a country that has the largest and most equipped Airforce and Navy. Today's wars do not need an army a million soldiers shelling in their tanks and artillary at m16 or Ak wielding soldiers in the battle field. No need for that, not when you are the owner of the stealthiest nuclear-powered aircraft carriers with a wing of 80+ fighter/bombers with precision guided munitions, not when you command far more B-2 spirit and F-2 Raptor fighter Jets than any nation in the world.
One B-1 full of JDAMs has more firepower, farther reach, quicker reaction and maneuverability time, and is far more accurate than 10 artillery units, while only putting 4 people into harms way instead of an entire battalion or regiment.
Air power mostly wins wars . Whoever controls the skies, controls the battlefield. And the intelligence. And the logistics. In fact, one of their strongest points is military logistics and arrangement, the American military logistical arrangement is superior to any military in the world that is why the can easily deploy 600,000 troops anywhere in the world with all their full equipments, vehicles, weapons and so on and then keep them there for as long as it takes withour qualms. China only sent a 600 man peacekeeping battalion to Africa in 2009 and was forced to reduce that number to a single 150 man Company after only 1 MONTH because its primitive logistics system couldn't even manage to support 600. The fact is this, the ability to rapidly move and deploy will suppress the enemy's intelligence, logistics, and ability for them to rapidly move and deploy too.
America knows how to matter where it counts, no contest.
