Politics › Re: NLNG Head-Quarters Moved To Port-Harcourt (From Victoria Island) by rhymz(m): 9:10am On Apr 12, 2012
No need to be sentimental about it, NLNG has no serious business citing its headquarters in Lagos, if anything, it increases cost, not to talk of the jaw-breaking tax from the lagos government.
From a business perspective, the move is a very smart one, NLNG does not generate her revenue from Lagos state, neither is it a consumer company that has to worry about losing market share and its like.
Now logistical cost will be greatly reduced by at least 40%. Besides, this will evenly distribute wealth and development and give opportunities too to indigenes as well.
And the new version of Becomrich, Musiwa keeps getting dumber by the day with extremely dumb arguments..lol

Phones › How To Stop Whatsapp From Connecting To The Internet All The Time by rhymz(op): 8:45am On Apr 08, 2012
HOW TO TO CONTROL THE CONNECTION OF YOUR Whatsapp (Strictly for Nokia symbian phones) Now you can connect and disconnect your whatsapp messaging software at your will by following this very simple steps. hELL YEAH!!! It can be stopped from constantly connecting and killing your battery
steps to follow:go to settings==>connectivity==>destinations==> and then one by one depending on how many acces points you have on your phone (but I will advice you keep only one and delete the rest to avoid complications) just creat a password to all the access points...then whenever your whatsapp tries to connect to the internet, your phone will request for a password ... If you do not ok the request, you phone wont grant whatsapp any connection to the internet... If you are already connected and wish to disconnect; you can either press and hold the red button on the phone's key pad( especially e-series users) or you go to the default connection manager on your nokia phone and disconnect. To gain access again, the cycle continues.

shebi recently Amber granted an interview to star mag in which she claimed that the reason why she and yeezy broke up was because of kim. She said while Kim was still with Regie Bush, she and Yeezy were cheating on Bush and her. She said Kim used to send racy text msg and pictures of herself to Yeezy, when she discovered it, she made attempt to talk to Kim but she ignored her. That was what led to their break up and now they have decided to come out of the closet. Yeezy even seems more eager to let it out that he already dedicated lines in his recent released song theraflu in which he admitted fallin for Kim when she was with Him -prolly talkin about Reggie bush or Kris- and then went on to threaten Kris about getting Jay Z to drop him from the squad of his team which is owned by his Pal Jay Z. Fact is the both of em are in it for what such a bizzare mix can do for album sales and TV ratings. Of course yeezy will eat her puzzzy, Kim is very easy to get to bed, all you need to do is be nice and rich. Then again, two of them are a complete opposite, while Kim is a fake ass attention seeking barbie, Khanye is an annoying loud mouthed egomaniac, both of them have got oversized egos and need for uneccessary attention.
Both of em are sure goina crash and burn, and trust blabber Mouth Yeeezy to whine and rap about it like he did Amber.

The fact here is that the owner of the site is too passive in the running of this site. He seems to have run out of ideas and has allowed pettiness and mediocrity take over his site. Until he shows some activeness in the way things are done here. Quality Censorship has been slaughtered in the alter of getting internet traffic, even the so-called mods are so damn bias, there are certain groupies that they see as untouchables, no matter what they do. Then you have that annoying spambot that ridicules the idea one is trying to convey by ridiculously changing words and meaning. The whole Nairaland Idea has become so childish and petty that serious topics do not make it to the front page while incredibly dumb threads make it straight to the frontpage. And you wonder why intelligent people are taking a break??

Grow up hag, the man said that stuff to for marketing effect and not a statement of fact. Like seriously, how many brazilians, trinidadians, togolese, "benians" and co actively speak yoruba language as opposed? Imagine some rughead claiming Yoruba is popular because it is taught in schools outside of Nigeria, bullocks!! The last time I checked, you could learn Igbo as well in schools in the US and europe, that does not make Igbo popular than my grey hair.
Just because Nigerians who are of Yoruba origins leaving in the US and UK in particular speak Yoruba language does not equate to it being the most popular everywhere you go in these countries and regions. Yoruba is not even the next most spoken language after the generally accepted language in these contries and regions, so I wonder where our professor wiki got his junk authority from, prolly from the nonsense people write on his open source and editable wikigibberish. Kingsleyinfo: Thanks for putting your words across like a civilized being.
that dundee wasn't getting my drift, and he obviously didn't read my post properly before typing his trash.
Like I said in my first post, Popularity doesn't equate quality or being the best and that's what I was really attacking.
The sample conversation on the other hand was meant to point out a certain attitude I have noticed in my time out here.
Where I grew up no one made a fuss if u could speak the local dialect or not.. Its totally up to you to learn or not. If you think it would boost your chances then by all means learn if not its totally ur choice.
But out here I have practically been asked why I am yet to learn yoruba, they go on as if its the alpha and omega of languages. I remember when we got to abeokuta, a friend of mine initially got rejected because she didn't greet the woman in yoruba, in a govt office where English was meant to be the official language.
learning another mans language is no doubt a survival skill, especially when u live there, but when people start taking it personal, u begin to ask yourself if these people actually went to school. Education is meant to broaden our mind and ways of thinking,
Honestly I wouldn't even be perturbed if I had been posted to a village and noticed, this, but in a state capital, it just makes me laugh.
If I get into an environment, and I discover that I need to learn their language for survival, I would damn well do it.
But as for now its not neccessary to me and that's how its gonna be.
My point all day has been, people should not look at others as stoopid because they refuse to learn a particular language. Neither should another claim to be the best on the ground that his language is more spoken than others.
and I still maintain some of these yoruba guys especially the one above, need to change their mentality.
there is absolutely nothing wrong if someone at a given point and place refuses to learn a particular language.

and imagine him calling yoruba a nation, the guy stinks of tribalism, so am not suprised at his school of thought. People dey go school u self carry book run go, come here they reason with I'm yansh.
Bigot.

Am still waiting to here what u people have achieved that others are yet to achieve, that made your brother to say they are the best.
kingsdley, obviously you are new here else you would have seen the futility in arguing or replying that bigot suffering from split personality disorder who calls himself Aljaharm or watever d 4ck he calls himself these days. First of all, nigga is very dishonest with his intentions, he is hausa but loves to cross Igbos against Yorubas, that is how the fool gets his self-esteem. One minute he is yoruba the next minute he is Igbo and in another he is Kanuri. His argument are usually very alien to the main topic, always skewed to make igobs look bad yoruba feel goodm at times when he needs igbo support, you see him swing the other way round like a homo that he is. No nairalander that has been here long enough to know the goon takes him seriously, it is folly to argue with such a personm he thinks he is cunning but his lack of analytical skills and finesse usually betray his true intentions- i.e to see southern tribes curse out eachother on the net. I treat him and his dumb argument like a plague, I don't read his gibberish, I skip em and when he quotes me, I take him to the cleaners. You should do thesame bro.

Hahahahah. . .the man that made such a wild claim must have been high on Amala flour when he made such a baseless claim.
Yoruba language is popular no doubt but on the fringes in those south American countries listed including african countries as well. Let's be honest, the only place where Yoruba has such notoriety is in the southwest. Compared to a Language like Hausa or Swahili, yoruba popularity pales into oblivion. Let's not start calling all the South American countries with a handful of Yoruba population yoruba speaking state, that is a very dumb exaggeration, such attempt is desperate. No tribe in Nigeria loves their language more than the Hausas, you need to be in the north to understand what I am saying. Countries like Niger republic, senegal, mali, chad, Ghana, burkina faso, Togo, cote d'iviore, sudan and cameroun have very visible hausa populations that do not just speak the language but are indigenous to these places. Am not gisting about a made up number or exaggerated population here o.
If there is one thing I know Yorubas do very well, it is neo-propagander and info-embelishment, prolly cos they control the media. If I were not a Nigerian, l would have thought the whole of Nigeria is Yorubaland the way they bring up yoruba in every discussion. Na wa o...lol

@Pro01
You could not have said it any better. Linda Ikeji is an extremely savvy entertainment business woman. And undoubtedly, she makes more money than Seun Osewa. One thing a lot of people don't understand is the fact that she makes a very good use of her celebrity status and connections to get the needed attention to her blog.
And hell yeah! Her blog is popular than Nairaland, and she ranks number 1 in internet entertainment.
She has very dedicated followers at her blog and she has a way of relating with them that makes it fun and personable. In comparison to Seun, the guy is not popular first and has done very little to promote Nairaland as a brand that can be reckoned with, giving the volume of traffic that NL gets, one would have thought by noe that it would have gotten some kind of facebook or twitter kind of status, we should be hearing about NL on enterntainment news on TV, big fashino and style magazines, coperate brand and co. . . . Until I went to the site, I used to think bellanaija for instance was an event management company cos they get all the exclusive wedding pictures and coverage. That is the importance of coperate branding and excellent PR. Seun is just too slow in the way he projects NL, as far I am concerned, NL is yet to get the big bucks patronage from serious brands that can actually swell his pocket. He seems too comfortable with being called the owner of NL and nothing more. Guy try leverage on it and hire some good PR managers and marketers, you obviously suppose don pass levels wey dem go dey compare you to blogs. Linda you sharp die jare!
Politics › Re: Man Falls Off Elevator At WAEC Building, Lagos & Dies by rhymz(m): 10:40am On Mar 29, 2012
Like I said before, the story abi na report does not add up. Something else happened. It is possible the reporter in his haste left out some vital details or outrightly sensationalized the whole story, this is pure journalistic embelishment, it can never make sense to a sound mind. I have been in elevators many times and I have a little understanding of its architectural design, it is not possible that a person in an elevator will step out an elevator that just stopped all of a sudden into an unfettered hole gap that leads dorectly to the ground floor. Unless may be when it stopped and oppened, it did so between the 7th and 8th floor with a better part of it way into the 8th before it stopped and opened. That of course will mean there was pitch darkness all over the elevator(yes, outside of a moving elevator is usually very dark) and in his effort to find a way out while gropping he fell into a hole not connected to the floors and went straight down. That explaination seem more likely than the cock and bull this reporter is telling us.
Politics › Re: Man Falls Off Elevator At WAEC Building, Lagos & Dies by rhymz(m): 10:18am On Mar 29, 2012
There is something not logical about this whole event. It is either the design of that building is greatly flawed or the man died in another manner in the elevator.
I mean, how do you explain the fact that there is a gapping hole or space all through the 8th floor of the elevator right to to the ground. Does that make any architectural sense, if actually the door openned and he mistakenly went out of the elevator, he should have fallen on the next floor below and not straight on to the ground. Seriously, there is more to this story than meet the eyes, at least we have seen the outside of an elevator during movement thanks to hollywoods movies and stuff. Unless they want to tell us that the elevator opened into a window, I don't see how he plummeted from the opening of the elevator door to the ground floor without first landing on the closest floors below. Is anyone understanding it?
Besides, I have never heard of an elevator stopping midway and opening all of a sudden, it looks like a concocted story, it is one thing for one to get trapped or for it to just stop midway, but to claim that it just stopped midway and openned its doors seems far-fatched. If that was the case Mr Fatai prolly would have noticed how unsual the such occurrence is, it will be glaring even to a first time user that the elevator had problems and had stopped and "opened" as they claimed the wrong time. I mean, you will see something that will tell you that immediately such happens. But I doubt this is the real story jare. The real story has not been told jare.
Phones › Re: Nokia E5 Vs Nokia E75 Smartphone by rhymz(m): 3:09pm On Mar 11, 2012
I use an E5 and I can tell you it is an excellent phone. However, there are certain advantages E75 has over it.
When it comes to performance E5 can be said to have a little better performance than E75 as its processor is more than that of E75. But when it comes to the screen resolution pixel and camera quality, E75 is way better. For a start, the E75 uses an auto focus 5mp camera whereas an E5 uses a 5mp camera that is not auto focus. The screen quality of E75 is way better, unlike E5 that darkens when exposed to sunlight(a cost cutting measure), the E75 does not darken even in sunlight. So you choose which one you prefer but trust me, E5 is an excellent smart phone, it does everything with ultra speed excellence and performance.

I am presently in Sokoto NYSC camp, the day this raid happened, the soldiers in our camp did something unsual. They cancelled the evening parade and asked us all not to visit the mammy market but go straight to sleep. Corpers being who they are and oblivious of the goings-on did not heed to the directive; thet visited mammy anyway. As a result, the soldiers asked everyone to report to the parade ground to listen to the camp director's address. There was a wide-spread rumours that there was a shoot-out between soldiers and BK boys somewhere in sokoto; mehn, a cold chill went down my spine. My reaction was this; "why now that I am in Sokoto". The camp director prolly wanted to say sth with regard to the the raid but decided not to do so seeing that our reactions will destabilize the orientation programme there so he just chose to blab about stuff he had in several times cautioned about. But even then, those of us in the know, knew there was more to it than meet the eyes. Later on, I made some news research and discovered the real issue. The botched raid and the precedent capture of some of the sect members had made them issue threats to attack Sokoto and in particular, they made a threat to assasinate the Sultan of Sokoto if their members captured were not released. So far, there is peace in the camp, however, it is obvious that after the 3weeks orientation programm more than half of the corpers will redeploy, Me inclusive. And seriously, the security in this camp is poor, God forbid that Boko boys will remember this camp.
Seriously, this is not my Idea of an average camp. This camp is bullshit, no where to bathe or go to toilet. . Everything is on the open field. The only reason I am just enduring it, is because of the very visible Yoruba and Igbo corp members here. The yorubas especially make up to 50% of the total corp members here in sokoto camp and unsurprisingly all of them have filed for redeployment already. God help us.

Abiola was just as corrupt as his backstabbing best friend IBB. He was killed like a Chicken and got a rushed burial. Abiola did not have the kind of leadership mantle Ikemba had, neither did he possess Ikemba's wits, courage intelligence, or political mastery. No one Nigerian commanded an undivided love and respect amongst his people like Ojukwu. Comparing Abiola to Ojukwu is like asking an autistic kid to prove Albert Eistein Law of relativity, you just have to let somethings slide unless you want him to catch a seizure in his attempt.

TV01:
Marriage as a proposition has changed significantly in recent times. One of the downsides for the “wealthier party” – typically men – can be serious financial loss, possibly leading to severe hardship for all but the quite well off.

With the introduction of “no-fault” divorce and laws designed to “ensure the best interest of any children” – which invariably benefits the “primary carer”, a role for the most part presumptuously awarded to the mother – men are also in danger of losing out on a significant role in raising their children.

Many on this thread are looking at “Nups” as the solution, be that pre or post. And doubtless, with  a little creativity, I’m sure we could well see nups evolve into a fully-fledged (and tradable?) financial instrument. The primary driver behind this approach being to limit the financial downside of divorce.

I beg to differ. And for a whole host of reasons;

1. Even if nups were perfectly legal and enforceable, they’d still have to be agreed by the parties. What woman in this day and age would not insist on minimum and potentially scaled (if Daddy hits pay dirt at any point) financial payments for “her kids”. Is anyone left in doubt as to the position the “law” will take on this?
2. It doesn’t speak to a potentially more costly issue – emotionally and financially – of access to the children
3. It doesn’t address or challenge the true motivation behind some of the weird political and legal maneuvering. In fact, it plays right into it’s hands per 1. above
4. An even greater reason – and without touching on 4. above - it doesn’t address root issues, such as the nature, benefits and understanding of marriage. Rebalancing and reclaiming it for the key, most basic and ultimately most important societal building block it is. The family.
5.  Marriage is not a business transaction

Let me start form point 5. First. Many of the discussions here typically focus on rich (celeb) type situations, which to be honest are far from the typical “garden variety” divorce.

As has been rightly pointed out, how many – if any – of the discussants here are any better than comfortably well off? And even if you are, a messy and acrimonious divorce can make road-kill of even the most comfortable lifestyle. Not to mention the physical and emotional costs. Anyone reading will have heard of the “broken men” and the “estranged and wayward children”. Very  real possibilities for your ordinary Joe in the event of divorce.

To treat marriage or any part of it “transactionally” is to divorce - excuse the pun - it from its true worth and meaning and strip it of much of it’s value.

In fact, it would be more honest to treat it as a “transaction” end-to-end, which to be honest is what a lot of people do anyway. Merely adding some spiritual and social content at the front-end, then using the courts to reap the profit at close.

Honest end-game here would be a situation (and if I recall there has been one, involving a rich celeb no less) where having kids and providing for their upkeep were based on a pre-agreed legal contract. Is that really what we want?

More later if time permits, but I welcome comment on the little I’ve posted.
