Will Smith has insisted that Jada Pinkett Smith is still his "best friend" despite their separation and what he described as a "very, very long and tumultuous" relationship.

The "I Am Legend" actor made the comments as he joined Pinkett Smith onstage at an event at Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday to discuss her new memoir, "Worthy."

"We call it 'brutiful,'" Smith said of their relationship, as reported by The Baltimore Sun. "It was brutal and beautiful at the same time."

"As I stand here before you today, I am happier than I've ever been in my entire life," Smith continued, per the Baltimore Banner.

"I have achieved every single thing I have ever wanted in my entire life," said the actor. "There is not one thing left that I desire in this world — all of the awards, all of the money, the family — everything I've ever dreamed."

Smith said that he has been able to achieve his dreams because of Pinkett Smith's sacrifices.

"There were many times when Jada put her career aside so I could follow the dreams of mine," he said. "Jada is the best friend I have ever had on this planet and I am going to show up for her and support her for the rest of my life."

In "Worthy," which was published on Tuesday, Pinkett Smith makes a number of bombshell revelations about her relationship with Smith, including that they have been separated since 2016.

Pinkett Smith and Smith married in 1997 and share two children, Jaden, 25, and Willow, 22.

Speaking with "Today" show host Hoda Kotb ahead of the book's release, Pinkett Smith said: "I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying."

"I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be," she added.

Pinkett Smith told Kotb that she and Smith remain married, but live completely separate lives.

"I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce," she told Kotb. "We will work through whatever. And I just haven't been able to break that promise."

Following the release of "Worthy," Pinkett Smith has said that she and Smith are now planning to write a book together.

"I know Will and I are talking about writing a book, together," the actor told Extra.

Pinkett Smith added that the book could be called "Don't Try This at Home."
