Business / Re: CBN Withdraws Skye Bank’s License To Operate by RoyalPriesthuud(m): 4:12pm On Sep 22, 2018
zamirikpo:

Cbn through the NDIC ensures that every bank runs smoothly, in case of a distressed bank they can step in to ensure stability. Remember apart from depositors funds it would be huge disaster for the Labour market to absorb skyebank staff in case of liquidation.

Bale out funds are not a new phenomenon the American govt did it during there last economic melt down.

So see it as a bale out fund which will be replaced in the event that Polaris bank finds a buyer.
I know about the bail outs of 2008. I also know that the American taxpayers made a profit from it's AIG bailout investment by 2012 but it was the exception, not the rule. Now, because the US government bailed out banks that were 'too big to fail' during a major DEPRESSION to avert a total collapse does not mean it hands out money all the time. And remember it allowed Lehman Bros and others to fail.

The question is whether Skye going under bring the economy down? Why give $2bn to Polaris to purchase a failing bank and still reward the mgt that brought the ruin in the first place?

I find this uncomfortable because this seems like the CBN and AMCON helped Skye purchase Mainstreet bank.

If u read the full text u will discover that the 800b is meant to stabilize the bank before it is sold .....after the sales the cbn can now recover it's funds.

The "full post" is sparse on details. It says it's been on lifeline from CBN from 2016, and I suppose lifeline means even more funds for the past two years. What I do not understand is why public funds is needed for a sale of a private business. If I choose to buy a failing business, aren't I suppose to be responsible for it's liabilities? Pls explain...

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation has injected N786bn in the new bank.

Can someone who really understands banking please explain the rationale behind this "investment'' of more than USD2bn into a new, private bank?

Isn't that public fund? How will taxpayers recoup the investment, and how long? Is this just another cronyism typical of Emefiele?

Politics aside, i wouldn't want to do anything with a Character like Saraki, talk more of having him as my leader. Never!

You betray your Father and sibling,
Betray your former Boss and party, GEJ and PDP,
Betray your present Boss and party, Buhari and APC.

The likelihood is that Saraki can betray anyone even the Nigeria nation at large for his own personal gain,
Politics aside too, the President is not the boss of senators or. Governors in a presidential system like ours. They are both independent public servants who can act in unison or otherwise if they choose. The Nigerian way of saying yes-sir to 'elders' even when they are wrong is one of the things impeding our democracy.

NB: I am not Saraki's supporter.

Do you know about the ongoing contract which the government has with Huawei and Sageto to build data centres which will serve the whole of west Africa? It is the biggest data centre in this part of Africa and it is meant to serve companies and organizations within and without Nigeria. It will be a means of generating revenue for the country.
All the data from BVN, National ID card, INEC and other registrations, guess where it is being held?
I never said corruption is not ongoing... I never said you should trust the government... There's more than enough to steal from NNPC and crude oil sales already.
China is not dashing them this money, they are using it as a means of creating employment for their own people. Huawei is the principal company behind the project and they are monitoring every dollar spent. When the project is done, it will be up to us to make use of what we have been given to create revenue. If we dont, everything will be left to rot as usual.

It is obvious you worked in a lowly part of the telecoms sector otherwise you would know, if you know. Read and educate yourself http://saharareporters.com/2018/09/01/nigeria-gets-328-million-loan-china-boost-ict-sector
And China can bug it just like they bugged AU building that they 'donated' to us. We are voluntarily walking into another slavery with our incompetence and lack of dignity.

Telecoms? Hmmm China seems to be dictating or is this govt don't know priority
China will actually be selling Telecoms equipment and probably software too worth that amount. Everything runs through the coms, China will have access to our telecooms infrastructure, then do with the information gathered as they like, just like they bugged the AU building they donated. It's no secret why US military banned use of Huawei and ZTE gadgets from all their millitary uses.

I support Emir Sanusi on this one. Islamic Education was the foremost form of education in Nigeria way before the Europeans came to our land.

Lagos State government has got it right too.

It is a pity we equate an educated person based on the quality of English he can speak. English is not our language, it is a borrowed language.
And this to me is one of the strongest effect of colonialism still enslaving us. We must uphold our languages.

You need to write a math text in Yoruba or a medical text in Igbo and have it standardized first before y'all start clamouring for teaching in indigenous language. We waste our time on unnecessary policies too much in this country.

Unfortunately, the Buhari-led government can't, or don't know how to make good deals due in part to it's incompetence and it's incessant urge to dress wounds instead of killing the virus.

Blast! Too much diss in one tweet.

It reminds me of the story of When Nelson Mandela was studying law at the University, a white professor, whose last name was Peters, disliked him intensely.

One day, Mr. Peters was having lunch at the dining room when Mandela came along with his tray & sat next to the professor.

The professor said, "Mr Mandela, you do not understand, a pig & a bird do not sit together to eat"

Mandela looked at him as a parent would a rude child & calmly replied, *"You do not worry professor. I'll fly away,"*
& he went & sat at another table.

Mr. Peters, reddened with rage, decided to take revenge.

The next day in class he posed the following question:
"Mr. Mandela, if you were walking down the street & found a package, & within was a bag of wisdom & another bag with money, which one would you take ?"

Without hesitating, Mandela responded, "The one with the money, of course."

Mr. Peters , smiling sarcastically said,
"I, in your place, would have taken the wisdom."

Nelson Mandela shrugged & responded, *"Each one takes what he doesn't have."*

Mr. Peters, by this time was fit to be tied. So great was his anger that he wrote on Nelson Mandela's exam sheet the word "IDIOT"
& gave it to Mandela.

Mandela took the exam sheet & sat down at his desk trying very hard to remain calm while he contemplated his next move.

A few minutes later, Nelson Mandela got up, went to the professor & told him in a dignified polite tone,

"Mr. Peters, *you signed the sheet*, but you did not give me the grade."

are we talking about iPhone,here?
Yes. Taiwan for the most parts and assemblage. Your Nike shoes, your "strong" HP batteries, some parts of your favourite jets, a huge percentage of the solar panels of this world and a whole lot more. Production is cheap in China, and the workforce is highly skilled, even Tesla Motors is in talks with Chinese authorities to build a production unit there. You think the trade war that the Trump government is waging is for cheap plastics?

You get what your pocket can afford in China, whether the dumb #2500(less than $5) Tecno phones or high grade production like is found in your Apple products and co. Of course a good percentage of the technology and design comes mostly from US and other scientifically advanced economies. But that is inevitably gonna change as China turns it's education system away from rote into more creativity focused, and moves from low grade industries into more high-tech sectors(esp AI and robotics) as captured in Xi's Belt and Road Initiative and Made in China 2025.

Open your eyes, China is more than just cheap plastics!

This is wrong! I can only imagine the amount of undue pressure on these young boys to perform. This is also not good for the psychology and confidence of the "inferior" students. Whatever level of effort is being impacted should be done equally to all students. You are to help them all unlock their potentials and not create an unhealthy elite group in the class...

And i hope you people realise that when you put too much pressure on this "elite group" coupled with expectations from home and they eventually come short of your expectation you would have created emotionally dysfunctional children......
I totally agree with you. And I must confess I'm also surprised, the comments you always make on discussions relating to private Unis always smack me as elitist, which is not good for the society, not for the elites themselves and the left behind.
A family friend who is a teacher always jokingly tell her pupils that she will force them to acquire adequate learning, or else they will be robbers that disturb her children's life when she's gone, it captures all of my thought.
