Business / Re: CBN Withdraws Skye Bank’s License To Operate by RoyalPriesthuud(m): 4:12pm On Sep 22, 2018 |
zamirikpo:I know about the bail outs of 2008. I also know that the American taxpayers made a profit from it's AIG bailout investment by 2012 but it was the exception, not the rule. Now, because the US government bailed out banks that were 'too big to fail' during a major DEPRESSION to avert a total collapse does not mean it hands out money all the time. And remember it allowed Lehman Bros and others to fail. The question is whether Skye going under bring the economy down? Why give $2bn to Polaris to purchase a failing bank and still reward the mgt that brought the ruin in the first place? I find this uncomfortable because this seems like the CBN and AMCON helped Skye purchase Mainstreet bank. http://www.proshareng.com/news/27053/How-to-buy-a-Nigerian-bank-with-no-money-Proshare |

zamirikpo:The "full post" is sparse on details. It says it's been on lifeline from CBN from 2016, and I suppose lifeline means even more funds for the past two years. What I do not understand is why public funds is needed for a sale of a private business. If I choose to buy a failing business, aren't I suppose to be responsible for it's liabilities? Pls explain... |

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation has injected N786bn in the new bank. Can someone who really understands banking please explain the rationale behind this "investment'' of more than USD2bn into a new, private bank? Isn't that public fund? How will taxpayers recoup the investment, and how long? Is this just another cronyism typical of Emefiele? |

Aufbauh:Politics aside too, the President is not the boss of senators or. Governors in a presidential system like ours. They are both independent public servants who can act in unison or otherwise if they choose. The Nigerian way of saying yes-sir to 'elders' even when they are wrong is one of the things impeding our democracy. NB: I am not Saraki's supporter. |

Heck, your shoes, and the light bulb in you room included On a more serious note, it's not only Christianity facing a push back in China, Islam is also included(ask the Uighurs); the ruling Communist Party dislikes religion, they do not believe in God and they don't want the citizen looking up to any Almighty but the CCP. 1 Like |

Jhayeahsam01:Highlight your strengths when looking for job. What you wrote up there doesn't tell a potential employer what YOU CAN DO. Instead say things like: "I am an agronomist with 2 years experience in crop breeding and plant genetics. My core competence is in working to maximise yield of Nigerian staples including maize and yam bla bla..." I pray you find a good place soon, good luck. 1 Like |

blackboy:China will actually be selling Telecoms equipment and probably software too worth that amount. Everything runs through the coms, China will have access to our telecooms infrastructure, then do with the information gathered as they like, just like they bugged the AU building they donated. It's no secret why US military banned use of Huawei and ZTE gadgets from all their millitary uses. |

dontbothermuch:You are one of the few wise ones. Sadly too many Africans, leaders and citizens alike, are kissing up to China. But as Kagame said, if we make bad deals with China, we are the ones to blame. Unfortunately, the Buhari-led government can't, or don't know how to make good deals due in part to it's incompetence and it's incessant urge to dress wounds instead of killing the virus. 2 Likes |

AngryNigerian22:Yes. Taiwan for the most parts and assemblage. Your Nike shoes, your "strong" HP batteries, some parts of your favourite jets, a huge percentage of the solar panels of this world and a whole lot more. Production is cheap in China, and the workforce is highly skilled, even Tesla Motors is in talks with Chinese authorities to build a production unit there. You think the trade war that the Trump government is waging is for cheap plastics? You get what your pocket can afford in China, whether the dumb #2500(less than $5) Tecno phones or high grade production like is found in your Apple products and co. Of course a good percentage of the technology and design comes mostly from US and other scientifically advanced economies. But that is inevitably gonna change as China turns it's education system away from rote into more creativity focused, and moves from low grade industries into more high-tech sectors(esp AI and robotics) as captured in Xi's Belt and Road Initiative and Made in China 2025. Open your eyes, China is more than just cheap plastics! 1 Like 1 Share |

And I must confess I'm also surprised, the comments you always make on discussions relating to private Unis always smack me as elitist, which is not good for the society, not for the elites themselves and the left behind. A family friend who is a teacher always jokingly tell her pupils that she will force them to acquire adequate learning, or else they will be robbers that disturb her children's life when she's gone, it captures all of my thought. |
