Business / Re: Upwork Thread (Questions/Help/Advice) by RoyalPriesthuud(m): 10:20pm On May 26, 2023
Need advice on moving to the next level at Upwork:

My first and only gig was a long term contract from February. It's not a continuous work as they only push work to me when they have the need with a 15hour weekly limit. The number of hours in total is about 70+ hours billed since February.

Here's the issue, I haven't had work from them at all in about 4 weeks, and I'm finding it hard winning any new work or even getting an interview. I feel like this could be because my account is still like new with no JSS and no reviews.

My question: Should I message my client to do me a favour by ending the contract and leave me a review so I could make some progress. I'd promise them that they could start another one with me when they have new work and at my current rate with them as a bonus from my end. Is this logical or is there a better way to approach it? Thanks for sharing your wisdom in advance

Bros, this is why I have a Payoneer Card. I don't know of another option you can top up with USD directly.

Okay thanks.

I suppose this is the life; you have to open them all

Chiefs, is there a dollar card that one can top up directly with USD?

I'm looking for a card service to pay for things tutorials and co.

Geegpay card service is currently unavailable and converting first to Naira just to top up cards like Chipper cash's is loses money to fees and exchange rates imbalances.

cc: @Ayomipoe @pocohontas Thanks

.Is there any alternative to paxful, where any payment system can be exchanged for crypto

Binance p2p
Business / Re: Upwork Thread (Questions/Help/Advice) by RoyalPriesthuud(m): 5:01pm On Apr 05, 2023
Ayomipoe:
Yeah. On Paxful you need to buy USDT and then Sell USDT for NGN.
You can choose to sell your USDT on Paxful (The rates on Binance are much better, last time I checked. Geegpay has saved me from crypto watching. ) However if you wish to transfer out, Paxful charges about 5-6$ for outgoing transfers.
Appreciate you. Geegpay has fixed my issue so I'm using them now.

Also, I saw a news about Paxful shutting down. You might want to remove your funds there if you have any

Hi sir, I have the same issue applying for the TIN from JTb, its almost a month, how did you resolve it?
I went to the tax office in my state secretariat. I got it on the spot after a brief discussion with the staff.
Apparently it's just sitting there in their system/portal waiting for a staff member to "Approve" it.

One tip I can share is to not tell them you're already working. They wanted me to pay some amount for back taxes. I had to negotiate down from 50k to 0.

Paxful Peer to Peer. Eat your loss. About 6-8%

I don't understand. WIll I lose 6-8% value if I trade via Paxful?

Also, is the sequence like this: use USD to buy USDT; sell USDT for Naira?

If this is your grand plan, you should have added GeegPay to your Upwork from the onset. Create an ACH acct via GeegPay and add to Upwork. Convert with same platform.
Geegpay used my middle name as first name to create my bank details. Upwork deactivated withdrawals when I added it and review was taking too long

I'm in need of the payout badly so I'm resorting to this option for now.

Folks, what's the cheapest option to get money off Payoneer? I'm considering adding my Geegpay bank details and converting to Naira via geegpay but I wonder if there are other options to maximize value.

cc pocohontas please I need your take on this. I have a client who contacted me and requested that he would like for me to purchase and register a couple of sim cards in Nigeria for his online business. I am skeptical because I hear stories and a part of me is not sure it would be used for a legal business. What's your take? Thanks.

That would be dangerous waters. Personal registration nowadays is tied to individual NINs. Any business they do with the number(s) you registered for them would forever be under your identity.

I'm sure SIM registrations for businesses would require typical business documents like CAC reg no and co.

What other platforms can I use to withdraw my Upwork earnings aside Geegpay and Wise please?

Geegpay has not verified my account for the past 2 weeks and I currently do not the ID required to verify Wise. Someone also told me to stay away from Payoneer(I don't know why).

I have a few hundred bucks from my first gig that I need to withdraw fast.

Did you check here to see if you already have a TIN
https://tinverification.jtb.gov.ng/Template/TINVerification

From my own programming perspective, I think you already filling that you are not in the US is already making you exempt from the tax.
There is no way to validate the number that you have added in Nigeria. I believe the number added only becomes important when Nigeria establishes her own laws about how freelancers should be taxed then Payoneer is then legally culpable for you having an invalid number.

You can test the transaction with a small amount. Also, Tax should be removed before available for withdrawal not at the point of withdrawing itself. ( This is speculation on my part)

I've been checking the site everyday for the past week, it returns not found.

I'm talking about WBEN form on upwork. I like your idea of testing with a small amount first.

Thank you!

If you made the withdrawal already, then it is fine. If they didn’t want you to, you wouldn’t.

It's showing as "available for withdrawal" in my dashboard, but I read they could legally withold up to 30% of my earnings in taxes if I do not fill the WBEN form. I filled it using 0000, but I'm doubly scared of losing 30% and getting penalized for invalid TIN.

Also, do you have an idea when TIN becomes available? I registered online since last month but it's been radio silence from the tax authorities since. I don't know what to do.

Bosses, what happens if I make a withdrawal without a valid TIN added yet?

My TIN is not ready yet so I filled in 0000 on Upwork as a placeholder. I'm wondering whether that would cause me any problems?

A friend of mine had similar issues. She verified her account with her Voters Card which has I wrong DOB.

When she got her NIN, she contact upwork support and they told her not to worry, that all they cared about was if it was real or fake.

Therefore contact Upwork Support first

I've reached out to them. Thanks for the insight

Hi bosses, is incorrect date of birth on ID card going to be a problem for Upwork verification?

I want to use my voters card to verify my Upwork account but the Date of Birth on it is incorrect (the day and month is wrong).

I'm worried about DOB clashing with other places I've entered it like the tax section and on my TIN

You need an ACH account to withdraw directly from Upwork.
Grey does not provide an ACH account.
GeegPay does.
Wise does.
Okay thanks.

So for a beginner freelancer in Nigeria, which do you recommend? Geegpay or Wise

No they are not listed in Upwork earning method .
But they provide virtual US bank accounts just like Wise. Is that not usable?

Hi, when I try to login to my account using all caps, it returned errors. Then I tried all caps and it returns another students profile from another study centre. Am I the only one experiencing this? What can I do about it?

Actually, a friend of mine is the one facing this challenges, we have tried everything the SC does not help at all, we send mail to ABJ no reply and he paid 52k.

That must be frustrating. I really do not know how creating a working web app could be so hard for a school whose operations revolves around such. A mess every semester.

Please kindly explain better. Thanks

I'm sorry nairaland's bot changed triple x to 'bleep'.

Login to your account, when you see the negative amount being shown there, move your mouse there and click on the number. It should reload and wipe off.

That is what happened to mine.

You can also try loading RRR number from last semester and then repeat. Let me know if it works.

Try clicking on the -#xx,Bleep. It'll reload, and will be wiped off. I did that unknowingly and it worked out to my surprise.

Let me know if this works for you.

Hello good people on here, please I have some inquiries to make.

My younger brother just applied for admission in NOUN and he said the tuition fee as new entrant is 70k plus and there is another tuition fee to to paid for second semester.. I want to verify if payment of tuition is per semester??

I will appreciate if someone can point me to the page number if this question has been answered before or help answer this.

Incase he missed payment for this next week deadline, can he reapply anytime or when does application for new applicant commence?

Thank you

In addition to what the first reply said, it's highly unlikely that the deadline will be extended again. It was extended to the current date.
