Sorry, but truth is, from your analysis, you don't have a good understanding of macro economics and finance.

What is VAT? Now, VAT rate is fixed which in Nigeria is 5%(one of the lowest in the world) and (although there were rumors that the the FG was planning on increasing it, but the FG refuted the remor) is not reactionary - i.e, fluctuate in response to macro economic forces. So, increase in MW does not and will not automatically increase VAT. Therefore, there is nothing like "this minimum wage can't even match up with the current VAT rate, not to talk of an increased VAT rate.."

Here too, you are not correct. We need minimum wage as much as we need infrastructures and job opportunities. And inflation is not an economic index that we can just reduce any how especially for a country like Nigeria where we have 'quasi economic system' and abnormal economic behavioural pattern. What can be done here is, apart from the FMF through the CBN properly managing our financial and economic parameters, agencies like the Price Control Board, Consumers' Protection Council, etc (which I don't know if they actually exist in Nigeria), should wake up to their respective responsibilities. The only people I commend here is this people responsible for controlling petroleum pump prices (what do they even call them again).

for clothes you import your refined fuel, money per barrel is fixed in dollars... fuel currently sold at 143 meaning the transportation from Lagos to Benin is not same as in 2014 when it was 83 naira.. The trader as to increase the price per product to meet up with the cost of transportation...


basic line if you live in a country where importation is high, your countries exchange rate to dollar always determines the living conditions of the citizens of that country...

I don't really blame Govt or even private employers on wage issues, I blame the Organized Labour. Why would they embark on strike to get pay rise but do nothing when workers in all sectors are not paid and treated fairly?
