400B dollar economy powered by 1,700MW of electric power and well millions of generators . kikuyu1: |

These Nigerians don't know they are many ways to make money - not just waiting for petrodollars. Some of these houses are worth millions of dollars. tylann: |

You're giving yourself false hope. Look here - if you neve rose - with all the hydrocarbons that God has given you - for all those years since 1959- clearly you CAN NEVER RISE again. Not when hydrocarbons are going out - by 2025 - all new cars will be electric - and by 2040 definitely all dirty nigeria oil will not be needed. You've wasted a huge opportunity for so long it's mind-boggling. Now we Kenyans are very proud of ourselves. The reason is obvious. 89% of our land is Arid and Semi-Arid. We don't have any mineral or natural resources of note (only salt that we collect off the ocean & one lake). You could say God dealt us very bad cards - we got no Aces - but look at Kenya now - easily the largest non-mineral economy in Africa - easily with the most educated and skilled workforce in Africa - easily now just behind South Africa (and sometimes Nigeria) in every indices that measure scale - and easily amongst the progressive in indices that measure intensity. Kenya future prospects are very brights. By 2022 - our GDP will be around 150B. In 2002 - our GDP was mere 12B dollars - now it's around 100b. Yes we have our own issues - but compared to Nigerian - this is a walk in the park. We just need polishing. NigeriaIsDoomed: |
And the fools are here shouting daily amid generator din - instead of leading a revolution - imagine exporting all that energy ( 2m barrels of oil and all the LNG gas) - and then have 2,600MW power for a country of 200M. Nigeria is a blot on the human conscience. The most shocking part - effective demand is 1,700MW -low load demand by electricity distribution companies (1,749.2MW) tylann: |
When did they force themselves on Kenya? British Training Army base - is for mutual training benefit - and the US airforce base in Lamu's Manda Island - is also for joint operation against terrorists and pirates in the indian ocean. Obviously we don't have home-grown Boko Haram that control the whole of North East. edon21: |
They were begging US army to fight their home-grown terror. The US and Brits after few months in Nigeria fighting alongside Nigeria fake army verdict was very harsh. They were bunch of cowardly disorganized and corrupt army they had ever seen. The US proceeded to places sanctions against Nigeria acquiring any of their weapons - because it was obvious it would end up abandoned or sold to Boko-Haram. Jonraid: |

You're rambling on and on while UN World Food Programme is feeding nearly the entire Nigeria North East. Your slumpolis starting from Lagos to Uyo are routinely voted amongst the worst cities to live in. They look like a scene straight out of war zone. Rusted iron sheet roofed houses. Kenya is doing great in nearly all aspect of life. I think if you read this thread backward - with an open mind - you won't miss that. You need to learn a lot from progressive nations of Africa - the Kenyas, the Rwandas, the Ghanas, the Botswanas, the Mauritus - these are countries matching forward. When this thread started - Kenya GDP was around 50B - now it's inching towards 100B dollars - while your cooked GDP has nearly halved. GDP per capita has halved in Nigeria - .Kenya budget has long overtaken Nigeria. Stay another 10yrs in this thread - and you'll see Kenya overtaking Nigeria overcooked GDP. I can go on and on - but kenya is obviously miles ahead - look at this ranking that came out yesterday. Kenya has been ranked as the best African country that offers good digital life in the latest Expat Insider report released by the InterNations. The survey ranked Kenya 31st in the world ahead of South Africa (49), Morocco (58), Uganda (59) and Egypt (69) Nigeria is indeed very doomed. NigeriaIsDoomed: |
Nairobi at Night - the Slumpolis of Nigeria will need another century to get here.

Dangote despite engineering a take over of Kenya's ARM cement maker with Ecobank fails - as Devki buys it. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/news/Cement-tycoon-in-Sh5bn-buyout-of-collapsed-ARM/539546-5126436-8hw95ez/index.html |
When was the ranking done. Kindly get us market cap of today - let see how puny Nigeria Stock Exchange is. 68816419: |
But does he makes decisions - or these are KNUT decisions. The way to deal with unions is through politics. You of course cannot detain people you don't like anymore. That would start a slippery slopes. What will work is when you have politically adept leader who can get into KNUT and cause divisions. Moi did it by sweet talking the KNUT Sec Gen and eventually sponsored the splitting of KNUT into KUPPET (secondary teachers). The solution to KNUT is to further split it - it way too powerful with 200K teachers on it's payroll - and if not it's to engineer division in it' leadership. Political problems are dealt politically. Kibaki and largely Uhuru disinterest in politics is what causes all these upheavals. Raila or Ruto would easily handle Sossion without the need to throw him in prison. Ultimately powerful unions as good as they are for workers - soon become a law unto themselves - and cause lots of problem - and gov has to work to avoid fostering these kinds of unions. kikuyu1: |
Kenya has to lead the drive to go digital. This should be our top priority coz we have a huge edge here. Jonraid: |
Yes - KNUT needed to be de-horned - but it always good to have a divergent opinion - obviously in Prof Magoha he will meet his match. Yes without any natural resources on sight - and with barely, any arable land left - our only national hope is smart well-educated workforce. We already invest a lot education wise....and we just have to keep going. kikuyu1: |
Kenya which already had one of Africa's best education system (only 2nd to Mauritu in Eastern & Southern Africa), takes another step forward with Competency Based Curriculum The system aims to inculcate dynamic values and instill virtues to help us flourish in our daily activities. The 8-4-4 was a teacher-based system, where the teacher was at the center of learning. This will not be the case anymore. The CBC aims to be a more student-based system, with more focus on the ability of the student to self- learn and develop relevant skills requisite for any engagement carried out. This way of thinking is perhaps informed by the opening up of the world, which has been spurred by the internet explosion. https://kenyayote.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Infographic-illustration-of-the-competency-Based-Curriculum-CBC-in-Kenya-2.png |
Nairobi famous Uhuru & Central Park. Ghana is really impressive country. Thanks to it's leadership. Nigeria is not any different from Niger - except in the oil it has. Remove Dangote companies from Nigeria Stock Exchange - and you have a cap smaller than Ghana. vaxx1: |
Nice - we need to bring all the 50B dollars out there back - this essentially money that was looted previously - and the economy will be richer - kikuyu1: |
Nairobi Stock Exchange cap now is around 28B dollars - with Nigeria cap around 30B - so the difference is very minimal. South Africa is black Africa. obaaderemi: |
Nice. Jonraid: |
Boko haram home-bred terrorist like cannot stand divergent opinion. You should direct your anger on the people responsible for the mess you country is in. I am more like a mirror in the wall - reflecting back your ugliness. samorobo: |
Arguably the most populated waste-land. samorobo: |
kikuyu1:They can fly each of those 400 in private jets and still save money...than double tracked train that carries what 5 buses can comfortably ferry..at 1b dollars. Nigeria problem is not corruption. .it's start with being led for 60yrs by barely literate mostly northern herdsmen. Their best leave the country...and don't comeback....leaving the idiots behind to execute such laughable projects like dead Calabar mon |
68816419:We are still waiting for steel pillets from the 8 billion dollars rusted steel mill..so worry less..we got all the time..to see your poverty increase to 90% of the population despite shipping 2m barrels of oil daily. If light rail cannot transport 1m passengers or about daily then it a wasted investment..and worse that rail will not even meet it operation cost.Starting at 400 is crazy.Dont wonder why your country is poor. |
400 passengers daily in vanity project to the airport is the classic case of wastage....even 1.5m passengers a year for a rail is still huge wastage..it won't even cover 1% of operation cost.Light rail should carry a million passengers DAILY.Check out gautrain in Joburg. 68816419: |
68816419:manze what happened to 9.9% that you lastly claimed to resides in slums...I see you're improving...I don't think 1% of Nairobi can hold 90% of it's resident even if you packed them like sardines |
vaxx1:I am not convinced..I think tax system that are easy to levy, easy to track and pay have much success..it either systems are lacking or well economy is largely informal...gov has to formalize .Nigeria gdp is over cooked....so that an outlier... |
Kazikazi:South Africa is fine...talk about Tanzania..where you eat maize n beans only. |
