There you go with lies. Lagos Airport has since 2015/2016 trailed Nairobi's JKIA in all the statistics - passengers, cargo and flight movement. Nairobi still has one of most busiest airport in Wilson airstrip. It's sea port also has been overtaken by Mombasa - both Apapa & Tin Can. For a city with population twice or more Nairobi - Lagos is very poor. obaaderemi: |
So if you accept the census are manipulated. You do accept the manipulation is not to reduce the population. Every state for economic and political reason want to appear more populous. It reasonable for me if you at least accept Nigeria population is INFLATED. It less than officially stated. It could be 5 or 10 or 50M inflated. Just like you also need to accept the GDP is over-stated to make Nigeria Africa top dog while everyone knows Egypt with 100M and zero povery - and South Africa with proper middle class - are just reasonable 350B. Ibrahimanis: |
You need to understand how they operate.National Population Commission that does census has 36 commissioners. I think Each state appoint a commissioner. During the actual census every state races to inflate their figures because FEDERAL ALLOCATION is dependant on it. At least with election they may deploy biometric - but Census is just poor enumators filling papers. The census become so much manipulated - 2006 - the actual census showed they were 200M Nigerian ![]() So the 36 commissioners sat down and culled the figures using the accepted "%". Lagos can expect to be always 6% of Nigeria. There was really no need to waste 1B dollars in 2016 to do another census. mtisTheQubit: |
National Chairman of the National Population Commission, NPC, Eze Festus Odimegwu Blaming the irregularity on distortion and falsification of figures for selfish and political reasons by politicians, Odimegwu had said: “No census has been credible in Nigeria since 1863. Even the one conducted in 2006 is not credible. I have the records and evidence produced by scholars and professors of repute. This is not my report. If the current laws are not amended, the planned 2016 census will not succeed.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/odimegwu-quits-npc-boss/ |
Our economic is firing on all it's cylinders. Yours had it growth projection slashed by IMF by 0.3 points. Now it will crawl at 2% - while you population growth is nearly 3-4%! your GDP per capita - is hemorrhaging - at possibly -1 or 2% annually. Ours is growing at 6.5% this year, population growth is 1.5%, inflation has been single digit forever, and KSHS is one world strongest currency against USD. We have never really had a debt crisis. That is strange thing. We will repay that debt and borrow more. obaaderemi: |
The agreement is not to rock the census boat. So because they are so incredibly corrupted and manipulated - what NBS attempt to do - is to revise the figures to the accepted consensus. You'd expect Lagos to see huge population increase as more and more people move there - but you don't see it. mtisTheQubit: |
Read there damn fool. Let argue about other stuff - not the OBVIOUSLY MANIPULATED NIGERIA STATS. In 2013, the former chairman of the NPC, Festus Odimegwu, managed to talk himself out of a job with a series of controversial comments. 24 out of the NPC’s 35 commissioners asked the president to fire him from his job as they had lost all confidence in him. Before then he had been queried by the presidency for giving newspaper interviews where he said there had never been a credible census in Nigeria, including the one in 2006, and that the 2016 one which he had been charged with conducting was doomed to fail vaxx: |
You overcooked GDP dropped from nearly 600B to 350B recently. That should worry you more. You real economy is 200B. Kenya will be there in around 7-8yrs. By 2030 kenya economy will be the size of Egypt or South Africa. Nobody can question the credibility of RSA or Egypt figures. But yours definitely are laughable and the average Nigerian knows that. obaaderemi: |
If you had capacity - you would be holding census regularly - credible census. you won't be quoting indeximulli when the min of agriculture is asked for figures. It a ridicolous joke. I think WB need to revist that - if indeed that was true. Maybe they are using Nigeria new data against Kenya old data. Ibrahimanis: |
Of course they are. In 1962 - the South inflated their population by 200% compared to Brits Census!. The Northern gov cancelled and held another one in 1963. The Northern then similarly inflated their by same %. The story has remain the same...the percentages don't change..both regional and state wise. In 2006 - they attempted to count - and ended with 200M - the whole exercise is so corrupted we don't need to argue about it. The states and gov generally try to cull the figures to retain the 1963 %. mtisTheQubit: |
You sound more obtuse than the usual Nigerians we deal with here. I will the last person to accept Nigeria crap statistics. Read that article for some context. The only credible census in Nigeria was one conducted by Brits. We can use that project. The CIA obviously knows that. https://qz.com/africa/1221472/the-story-of-how-nigerias-census-figures-became-weaponized/ vaxx: |
What CAPACITY when you haven't held census in nearly 15yrs. You failed to hold census in 2016. You held census that have been so controversial they are laughable. Maybe someone at WB was smoking illegal stuff if he thinks Nigeria NBS has better capacity than KBS. Ibrahimanis: |
why we want to argue about Nigeria rigged population figures confounds me. https://qz.com/africa/1221472/the-story-of-how-nigerias-census-figures-became-weaponized/ The only credible census was the one Brits conducted. Nigeria's South and North have been competing on who can inflate the figures. The story of Nigeria’s 1962 census never gets old. Southern politicians seeking to end the north’s dominance of Nigerian politics decided that the only way to do it was through the census. Population figures at the time determined not only parliamentary representation but also revenue allocation and employee distribution in the civil service. In May 1962, the first census under an independent Nigerian government began. There had been a frenzy of mobilization by politicians in the south of the country using pamphlets, radio, schools, churches and mosques. |
CIA - the best they can do is project Nigeria official figures - so let's not sweat it. I don't know what evidence you need is something self-evident. Nigeria population figures have been manipulated since 1960s! vaxx: |
First I don't even know what CIA you're talking about because you gave me a dead link. But I know no official body like CIA or IMF will engage Nigeria on it's fake numbers. Academians have that license though. vaxx: |
Why not 0-1M. Why 20-50M max. You see if you went to school and have something btw your ears you won't throw figures carelessly. I have a reason why I think Nigeria population is 150m. I also have a reason why I think it's economy is 200B tops. Ibrahimanis: |
The most ridicolous was cross-river state budget this year. It jumped from 300B Naira to 1.2 trillion Naira surpassing even Lagos ![]() The whole Nigeria budget is classic nigerian - delusional. Jonraid: |
NBS that has not held one credible census since Nigeria became independent. I think the only credible one was initial results of 1962 census undertaken by the British consultant. You see Oil revenue is great incentive to lie. As long oil is the main (used to be 95%) of gov revenue - then every states will manipulate the stats. NBS staff will work with their states to inflate their population figures. In Kenya we recently saw some attempts - to inflate population - but this is mostly by refugees in some counties - passing themselves for kenyans. KNBS disputed those figures - about 1M - but they counties went to court and got judgement. So as of today Kenya population is inflated by around 1-2M. This year because we are having devolution that shares national taxes to 47 counties - we might see Nigeria like attempts to manipulate census. But thanksfully this is digital and data will be transmitted daily. Ibrahimanis: |
CIA, IMF, WB and name them have no option but accept whatever Nigeria says is their stats. They cannot come and count Nigeria or it's economic activities so they can verify. Generally countries want to get those stats right for their own planning sake. vaxx: |
Nigerian census like it's stats are rigged. The population is probably 150M - not 200M.Lagos city probably has 7-8M - not 20M the state governor claims. The economy is ridiculously overstated. The agriculture sector is the most inflated. Binikingdowm: |
Kenya's SportPesa - Arguably Africa biggest betting firm and quickly racing to become a global player - to sponsor F1 Team Racing Point - 30M dollars sponsorship. SportPesa is understood to be paying $8 million for its first year followed by $10m in 2020 and a further $12m if they remain for 2021 https://kenyatalk.s3.amazonaws.com/2019/01/285207_781bf424d3355a89a51a85edb5f3ac7e.png |
While Nigeria couldn't afford to conduct census - Kenya which has conducted census every 10yrs - is set to spend about 180M dollars to conduct a comprehensive paperless census using 160,000 digital devices this august. Nigeria stats like anything Nigerian is unreliable.

They asked for feasibility studies. I think they wanted Kenya to commit to Malaba. Kenya want to commit to Kisumu only. They want Museveni or China to pay for Kisumu to Malaba (Phase 2C). China wants both Kenya and Uganda to commit. tylann: |
Phase 2A - The overall level of completion currently stands at 88.25% which is well in line with the launch scheduled for June 2019. I dont think work on Naivasha Dry Port has yet began. I think this has yet to began. Also Kengen industrial park is not happening soon. Jonraid: |

Of course, Lagos has it's bad side but that's one city you can't wave aside.
