There you go with lies. Lagos Airport has since 2015/2016 trailed Nairobi's JKIA in all the statistics - passengers, cargo and flight movement. Nairobi still has one of most busiest airport in Wilson airstrip.

It's sea port also has been overtaken by Mombasa - both Apapa & Tin Can.

For a city with population twice or more Nairobi - Lagos is very poor.

The same Lagos has a airport busier than the one in Nairobi and a sea port busier than the busiest port in east Africa. Literacy level in that same Lagos is higher than in Nairobi, Kenya's number one city. What's more, that same Lagos has fewer of its people living in slums than Nairobi. It reasonable for me if you at least accept Nigeria population is INFLATED. It less than officially stated. It could be 5 or 10 or 50M inflated.

Just like you also need to accept the GDP is over-stated to make Nigeria Africa top dog while everyone knows Egypt with 100M and zero povery - and South Africa with proper middle class - are just reasonable 350B.

You need to understand how they operate.National Population Commission that does census has 36 commissioners. I think Each state appoint a commissioner.

During the actual census every state races to inflate their figures because FEDERAL ALLOCATION is dependant on it. At least with election they may deploy biometric - but Census is just poor enumators filling papers.

The census become so much manipulated - 2006 - the actual census showed they were 200M Nigerian

So the 36 commissioners sat down and culled the figures using the accepted "%". Lagos can expect to be always 6% of Nigeria.

There was really no need to waste 1B dollars in 2016 to do another census.

Our economic is firing on all it's cylinders. Yours had it growth projection slashed by IMF by 0.3 points. Now it will crawl at 2% - while you population growth is nearly 3-4%! your GDP per capita - is hemorrhaging - at possibly -1 or 2% annually.

Ours is growing at 6.5% this year, population growth is 1.5%, inflation has been single digit forever, and KSHS is one world strongest currency against USD.

We have never really had a debt crisis. That is strange thing. We will repay that debt and borrow more.

You are right. Even the world bank takes Nigeria's statistics more seriously than Kenya's. Kenya's economy is seriously cooked. Their GDP jumped from $60bn to $100bn in the space of 3 years or thereabout just selling coffee and flowers and borrowing up to their eyeballs from China.

Of course they are. In 1962 - the South inflated their population by 200% compared to Brits Census!. The Northern gov cancelled and held another one in 1963. The Northern then similarly inflated their by same %. The story has remain the same...the percentages don't change..both regional and state wise.

In 2006 - they attempted to count - and ended with 200M - the whole exercise is so corrupted we don't need to argue about it.

The states and gov generally try to cull the figures to retain the 1963 %.

Population figures at the time determined not only parliamentary representation but also revenue allocation and employee distribution in the civil service. Although the final results were not made public, the preliminary results were quite clear as to what had happened: the north’s population had gone up from 16.5 million in the last census in 1952 to 22.5 million, an increase of 30%. But in some parts of the east, the population had increased by up to 200% and more than 70% in general. The west also reported an increase of 70%. What the preliminary results showed was that the north had lost its majority share of the country’s population.

First I don't even know what CIA you're talking about because you gave me a dead link. But I know no official body like CIA or IMF will engage Nigeria on it's fake numbers. Academians have that license though.

NBS that has not held one credible census since Nigeria became independent. I think the only credible one was initial results of 1962 census undertaken by the British consultant.

You see Oil revenue is great incentive to lie. As long oil is the main (used to be 95%) of gov revenue - then every states will manipulate the stats. NBS staff will work with their states to inflate their population figures.

In Kenya we recently saw some attempts - to inflate population - but this is mostly by refugees in some counties - passing themselves for kenyans. KNBS disputed those figures - about 1M - but they counties went to court and got judgement. So as of today Kenya population is inflated by around 1-2M.

This year because we are having devolution that shares national taxes to 47 counties - we might see Nigeria like attempts to manipulate census. But thanksfully this is digital and data will be transmitted daily.

CIA, IMF, WB and name them have no option but accept whatever Nigeria says is their stats. They cannot come and count Nigeria or it's economic activities so they can verify. Generally countries want to get those stats right for their own planning sake.

Nigerian census like it's stats are rigged. The population is probably 150M - not 200M.Lagos city probably has 7-8M - not 20M the state governor claims. The economy is ridiculously overstated. The agriculture sector is the most inflated.

They asked for feasibility studies. I think they wanted Kenya to commit to Malaba. Kenya want to commit to Kisumu only. They want Museveni or China to pay for Kisumu to Malaba (Phase 2C). China wants both Kenya and Uganda to commit.
