hmmmm, nothing is actually impossible but the negotiation is now even more complicated! FG just announced that 40bilion was not just given to ASUU but also to include NASU, SSANU and NAAT! FG seems to be playing hanky-panky with ASUU embarassed
That is one thing i wanted ASUU to understand, just as FG do not care much about this current protesters demand is same way FG can never meet the demands of ASUU fully, FG will continue dribbling them till the end of time.

ASUU should take what ever is presented to them and suspend the strike.

NairalandSARS:
How many universities voted for call off?
Forget those votes, ASUU might suspend the strike conditionally, FG will pressure them to suspend the strike for national interest, FG needs students to go back to school to reduce the protest.

you really think they'd hold a meeting amidst this?

FG's balls is right in ASUU's hand right now and trust ASUU to twist it well
FG met SSANU and NASU yesterday, what will stop them from meeting today.

brexit:
ASUU needs to be careful, based on the the current trend if they fail to do the needful they will lose everything to nationwide protest

Wisdom demands that they take the offer now and call off the strike

They are the next target, if they fail to maximize this opportunity it will lead to the Federal government proscribing all the Unions on campus through Executive Order

Let them appear real and stop this hide and seek game
Exactly my thought, ASUU have been begging to meet the govt, opportunity was made for them to meet and settle issues with the govt, they are now forming.

If i were to be Ngige, if by 2moro they still refuse the offer, i will end the meeting and ask them to go home, strike can continue till next two years and salaries will not be paid to them.

That should not be your problem. The handler of the account is an ASUU staff. What ever information pertaining the strike or any information is first disbursed by their handle.
You see the problem with Nigeria youth, ASUU president demanded that the fake account be reported and shut down, if it is run by ASUU member wouldn't the member be sanctioned, sometimes i do not know how Nigeria stidents reason.

No hate or disrespect for the Yoruba tribe, i am not a tribal bigot but i am disappoint in majority of the Yoruba, if people from far away Europe and America can support this woman, then why is she being demarketed by her own country men.

I remembered how every Nigerian supported Akinwumi Adesina who also served in GEJ government, i don't just know why some people will show full hate for a particular group.

EducationRe: ASUU Or FG: Who Is To Blame For The Six Months Strike? by Saintinoo(m): 6:07pm On Oct 05, 2020
lordcyno:
I'll blame FG for not coming through with their agreement and ASUU only embark on strike cos it seems that's the language gov't understand
And you think FG loses anything because ASUU is on strike? Students are the ones losing and same students are not doing anything about the strike action.
EducationRe: ASUU Or FG: Who Is To Blame For The Six Months Strike? by Saintinoo(m): 5:57pm On Oct 05, 2020
Xsem:
The strike in the whole truth is just 2 months old , it started on March, we went on lockdown ending of march till September. In fact, the strike action is not even upto 2months old if you analyse critically.
So if ASUU don't make their demands through strike actions, which other viable way can you think of?
The govt here doesn't value education. Compare the case of NLC and ASUU. Immediately they coughed strike, see how frantic fg was to resolve the strike.

You people keep saying ASUU should find another alternative, which other alternative. Common protest to demand for better government by the citizens is met by the brutal force and resistance of the security personnel of the country.
Over the years, i have learnt to be neutral on ASUU vs FG saga, both parties are problem to Nigeria university sub-sector.

FG do not value education so does ASUU. About an alternative to strike? In 2019 ASUU were on strike and it was weeks to elections, ASUU were approached by INEC and they accepted to conduct the general elections, that period was a golden opportunity ASUU had to get atleast 50% of their demands met, but they showed that they were more of politicians than academicians.

Strike does not take anything away from the goverment, Buhari might decide to allow ASUU go on strike for the remaining three years of second term and nothing will happen, who bears the finally lose? Students and jnr Lecturers whose salaries will be withheld, ask any lecturer, pressure is on ASUU president from his members to call of the strike so they can be paid.

In Nigeria public universities, strike remains the most unthought option.

They are scared of protests. The only people and place a meaningful protest might come from is schools. Check Syria, Egypt Etc. Protest there mostly come from uni. What do you think?
Which federal universities are you talking about, how many times do you want them to open federal universities, federal uni are open already, just that ASUU won't allow academic activities to resume.

EducationRe: If "Getting A Skill" Is Your Reason For Attending School, You're Confused! by Saintinoo(m): 9:14am On Sep 28, 2020
KillerBeauty:
I know someone who lives in Germany. He said after secondary school, young people have the option of learning a skill or going to university. If you want to become a doctor, lawyer, teacher, accountant, a civil engineer etc you choose university. But if you prefer plumbing, hair dressing, carpentry, catering, interior design you choose technical school.

They don't do what we do here in Nigeria, that a young person will study computer science in the university, graduate, then go and learn phone and laptops repair.

If you want to be a phone and laptop technician while then would u spend 4 years in the university.
Computer science has nothing to do with Laptop repairs.
EducationRe: If "Getting A Skill" Is Your Reason For Attending School, You're Confused! by Saintinoo(m): 1:08pm On Sep 27, 2020
Ahumanbeing:
If you have this mentality, why do you need to go to school or why do you encourage people to go to school?
If you studied the right thing and were properly guided, you don't need to "borrow" a skill to earn a living.
First of all understand what a skill is, the sorry state of Nigeria education system makes it look like skills shouldn't be taught in schools. No company, i repeat not company will ever employ you without a skill, you go to the university to get skills, the university is a home research, do not think skills are just the hair dressing and plumbing you hear of, the practicals you do in the university is meant to teach you skills but Nigeria universities lack the facilities to do that.

Students studing Economics, Mathmatics, and Computer science are suppose to have a good computer skills, very vast in programming languages and softwares (Eviews, SPSS, STATA, R, Python, PHP, Java) those are skills your universities should teach you, but because we are in a failed country with a failed educational system, most of our lecturers do not know them.

Apply for jobs in an international NGO, you will even be required to learn mechanic if needed, these are organisations that believe in skills.

My brother even for the fun of it, learn a skill.
EducationRe: If "Getting A Skill" Is Your Reason For Attending School, You're Confused! by Saintinoo(m): 9:49am On Sep 27, 2020
superlightning:
What skill are you referring to?

Is it Vulcanizing, Catering, hairdressing, Sewing, Carpentry, Plumbing etc, as compared to mental and research oriented skills like quantum mechanics, data processing, medicine, law, education, architecture, etc?
Don't mind them, by the time they are out of school, they will know why it is important to learn a skill.
EducationRe: If "Getting A Skill" Is Your Reason For Attending School, You're Confused! by Saintinoo(m): 9:47am On Sep 27, 2020
Ahumanbeing:
This current trend of "find a skill" "get a skill" "Certificate is useless" etc, just shows how deluded our educational system is.
There are two paths to Professionalism;
1. Educational Advancement
2. Skill building.

You're going to school because you've chosen the path of "Education Advancement" therefore I see no reason why you need to borrow a skill to survive in this failed state, your course of study should be sufficient for you to succeed in life, if you've been given a wrong course, simply drop it and resit jamb.
You mustn't "Borrow a skill" totally different or unrelated from your course of study, that's pure confusion and the height of Educational backwardness in this failed state.
If you have the need to search for, and borrow a course after graduating and getting a degree: it means you wasted your life in University

If you aren't interested in school, enroll in a skill acquisition center while your mates enroll in university, don't sheepishly follow them to university then when y'all graduate, you sheepishly go back to a skill acquisition center – that's the worst move a graduate can make!

In addition; You shouldn't be running around in circles, pick a course to study in University which alligns with your talents and ambition so you don't have to graduate, burn your certificate then go back to skill acquisition!

THe government should encourage skill acquisition guide courses in secondary education and make students know that university Education and skill acquisition are similar, therefore no need doing the two when you can pick one from the beginning.

FINALLY; If you graduate from University then go back to "borrow a skill", you are a confused entity!
Dear OP truely the level of educational backwardness in our country is alarming, reasons for this write up of yours. You should should also know that those skills are part of education, let me shock you, skills you call informal are very much taught in the universities.

Recently president Donald Trump signed a law that will require companies employ graduates with skills above degree certificate, google it.

Nigeria graduate are unemployed mostly not because there are no jobs, but because they do not have the required skills needed for the job. Do not think that the garbage lecturers give you in Nigeria universities is enough, they do that because even them do not have the required skills.

In what ever discipline you choose in school, there is a skill attached to it, learn it and do well to add others not related to you area of study, your company might decide to switch you to other dept, and i tell you, you really need those skills.
