FamilyRe: Have You Done A Business That Didn't Work Out As You Expected? Coman Gist Us. by Saintinoo(m): 7:33am On Jul 09, 2021
hbemigho:
I'll go first.

I have failed at several businesses o, but this particular one still dey pain me anytime I remember it.

So I have been drinking zobo since I was in primary school but it didn't feel or taste special until I drank one correct chilled zobo made by my babe.

Drinking this zobo, business ideas started to enter my head. I started to see the possibility of becoming a major competitor of Coca-Cola with my brand of zobo.

That's how I brought my babe and my brother together to start a zobo company.

As fate would have it, it was about the time that Deeper Life was having their Easter retreat.

So for my mind, there is a huge market for our product. I went ahead to make branded stickers for the zobo bottles.

We made 500 bottles of zobo for a start. By my calculations then, one bottle was selling for 50 naira, which would have generated N25k minus our production cost, we were expecting at least N12k profit from that first batch.

Long story short, day came, we transported the chilled zobo to the camp venue. The woman in charge of selling already did her own zobo to sell.

Omo, the thing just off me 2 seconds.

Lass lass we managed to sell only 20 bottles for N30 each.

The thought of transporting the zobo back home made me start experiencing symptoms of malaria and typhoid there on the spot.

Please don't even ask me what happened to the remaining bottles of zobo because I never still recover from that heartbreak.

To think I wanted to compete with the almighty Coca-Cola.

Chai!

Have you ever started a business that doesn't work out as you thought?

Abeg gist us.
You are not a good business man, you set your sight on too much profit for a start, what happened to starting small and watching the market to see where and how to improve. Wish you luck in your future businesses.

RomanceRe: She Cheated, But I Still Love Her by Saintinoo(m): 10:49am On Jul 08, 2021
jbreezy:
So the story goes like, my gf and I have been dating for 2 years now. I really love her cos she's so interesting, extremely caring and so good to me. She's a pretty one too. So I finished school ahead of her (We were in same school).

But we couldn't let each other go because we already love each other, so we continued the romance. I loved her after and I really gat plans to marry her even though I'm like 5 years older than her. I was going to wait till she finishes school (She was in 200 level when I left). So I went to visit her in school and out of curiosity, I checked her whatsapp chat...I read her chat with her very close friend (the best place to find the truth) Well well well...There was this gist about her having sex with a friend. Then another was about her trying to date a guy..It really broke me, but till today, I haven't challenged her...

Actually, I would have broken up if I dont love her up to this level cos I hate it when I'm being cheated on... But I don't think I'm ready to lose the girl..

So I met a very pretty lady lately... We've been talking and she's really been giving me all the greenlight a normal guy needs to see... This one is more mature (I felt like my gf is still probably at what y'all call the hoeing stage cos she's 21)... So I've been contemplating on leaving her for this one, by bringing up the cheating part (something like a chess game)...

Seriously, I still think I love her, and would have married her if she didn't do that... So I'm lost between challenging her and giving her another chance (cos she's going to obviously beg) or challenge her to leave her...Thanks and sorry for the long essay
Forgive and marry her, but don't come here after 2years to tell us how your wife is cheating on you.

I agree with you 100%. I may may not be right in my assertion but yet it is my view. But since the wife is not here to tell me her place of the issue, it is normal to look deeply, from the tune of the voice or the writer you will notice anger towards the wife.
Haha, maybe the wife have fustrated life out of him, reason for the anger towards her.
FamilyRe: Help: My Wife Wants To Know Everything by Saintinoo(m): 10:38am On Jul 08, 2021
vickydankal:
Oga no vex ooo but I think you don't trust your wife with money of her own which means you are insecure, I don't know if there's a past with your wife that contributed to this or just fear of " she won't be obedient any more if she pays her own bills" that some men has.

Secondly, what's wrong with your wife giving money to her people? They are your in laws and when you have you should be giving them from time to time.

Thirdly, I don't think your wife is interested in knowing everything, it seems you are just secretive with information. You don't give her full details on vital things she should know about. Hence any one she gets to know she wants to influence it to her favor.

In conclusion.
I'm not supporting my fellow woman, I deduce the above from your writeup. My husband tells me everything but at the right time, there are things he will tell me before, during, after or may never tell me sometimes for my own benefit he won't tell me so that I won't act it out ( you know women nah) please be more open with most vital things about you she won't find reason to dig deep.

That's my 2 cent cool cool
You don't know his wife, some woman are very wicked that you begin to wonder if they actually married because of love.

Where is economics applicable in Nigeria apart from govt, the academia and some very select organizations?

Which advantage will you really get?

I am not really in the commercial line so pardon my ignorance.
An economist works everywhere, i mean everywhere even in hospitals that is where as a student of economics you are expected to takes courses that touches almost every department.
Energy econs, Health econs, Petrol econs, Agric econs, Environmental econs, Rural econs, Public fin, Demography and many more.

Don’t let anybody fool you, the econs is not useful if you don’t write any professional exams in another field eg. ICAN, ACCA, CFA. Don’t think your econs will get you jobs in banks ahead of those who studied Foods and Nutrition or Woodwork. Nigeria does not have sectors where to use Econs. You can’t practice on your own if you studied econs but you can practice on your own if you studied accountancy. The only problem with accountancy is that people are too many studying it and it can be discouraging if you don’t start your career well in a good company. I mean western multinational companies, not all this Saka Jelili Ltd, Hispro Hotels, or Yusdas Enterprises o. I am telling you reality. I have more than 17 years top notch work experiences across various multinational companies and I am a certified accountant.
While you are in school, please try and learn or teach yourself these skills and improve on them over time:

Microsoft Excel. ( don’t fool yourself that you are an advanced user the moment you can use Pivot table or use vlookup or xlookup o. Go and learn deeper Excel. There are free materials online.

Learn financial modeling using Excel to the best of your ability.

Learn Power BI or Tableau for data management, business reporting and analysis.

Learn PowerPoint ( I can give you a YouTube site where you can learn world class PowerPoint for free. I have materials for others too but I don’t guarantee they will be relevant by the time you graduate).

Finish your professional exams on time.

Aim high and target multinationals like GE, BAT, Nestle, Unilever, Atlascopco, P&G, GSK, Microsoft, etc. if you don’t eventually get any of those ones, you will get something closer eg PayStack, Flutterwave, Andela, Hayat Kimya etc. But if you lower your bar, you are in for a loooong thing.

All the best.
Did you just say that an economics graduate can not practice on his own? What do you take economics for, please say what you know.
As a student of economics, you are trained to be a professional data analyist, that is the reason why you are expected to have good knowledge of EVIEWS, SPSS, STATA and R before you graduate. Economics graduate can practice as private consultants just as an accounting graduate.

If you are coming to university of uyo, welcome to Accounting department. I’m still asking myself what economists in Nigeria are doing in this current economy.
Take that question to buhari who does not have even one economist in his cabinet. Many economists have adviced this government but what did the government do, they insisted on sharing 10k, 30k and 50k as a means of poverty reduction, borrowing in order to travel and pay unproductive civil servants salaries.
Do not get this wrong, Nigeria inflation is a man made one caused by some people's ignorance, you do not share money to 10% of the population and hope that the price of things will remain thesame in the market.

Jman06:
Reno Omokri need to understand that not all Igbos support Nnamdi Kanu and his approach towards freedom fighting. I am Igbo but I saw through Nnamdi Kanu's tactlessness in his quest for Biafra long ago.

If he was smart enough, he wouldn't have started his radio Biafra broadcasts by insulting other regions of Nigeria and creating enmity for himself and the general Igbos among the rest of Nigerians.

A smart freedom fighter would not order the release of criminals from prisons and police stations in the same region he claims to fight for.

The joke is on anybody who didn't see through the foolishness of Mr Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu is not the Messiah some Igbo people think he is, period.
There are three types Igbo, there is Igbo, there is Northern Igbo and there is Lagos Igbo, know which one you are, Nnamdi Kanu might not put so much into people control, ask yourself why they are worried, so they can sell out to Nigeria government.
About Nnamdi Kanu approach of Igbo political and traditional leaders, i will do more than him if given the chance, i will not just insult them but will go after them. The Igbo tribe have suffered both in the hands of the North and the so called Igbo leaders. If anybody thinks he can lead NdiIgbo more than Nnamdi Kanu, he should step forword, start something and we will support him.

So today I was thinking how I could finance my academics myself instead of still relying on my parent. This is because I grew up an introvert and had no prior knowledge about any trade rather academics.

I would like to know, what jobs did you engage in before and after you proceeded for Masters degree program ?
You didn't get an entry level job with your B.Sc, you want to go for masters without any job experience.
Use that money and start somthing for yourself.

Haahahaha anybody who stays in the North will really understand this, that is the problem with ndi Hausa, they practice a kind of economics that is really backward, reason why Nigeria is in this state...

How on earth will you ask a company to review it price back to the old price. What happened to free market and the 'invisible hand' of free market, their threat should go to the federal government to correct the economic downturn in the country so cost of production can reduce. But they rather accuse companies of hiking prices instead of blaming Buhari.
RomanceRe: After Introduction, I’m Seeing Too Many Red Flags by Saintinoo(m): 8:21am On Jun 24, 2021
mugnmuffin:
Dear Nairalanders,
I have an issue that has been on my mind for weeks now. My fiancé and I have been dating for over three years. I love him and he loves me too. We are physically attracted to each other. We’re both catholic but since I graduated, during my service year I gave my life to Christ, got saved and left the Catholic Church. So I’ve been a Pentecostal Christian since then. He on the other hand is still catholic. I subtly try to nudge him to consider getting saved, i.e acknowledging Christ as lord and savior and becoming born again but he is content with his laidback Christian life.

Earlier this year, he asked to meet my parents and I let him. My parents like him especially because my younger sis is married and they have been waiting for me too. They’re glad I’ve someone. However, after the introduction,I regret it. I’m now certain that he’s not the one. I think about my spiritual life and how lukewarm he is about the things of God, I think about kids and how we’ll raise the, with such differing views about God and I’m discouraged. I feel like I’m settling because he checks all the boxes on the checklist of physical attributes. Another mistake I made is, I didn’t pray about this decision and that worries me because anything that involves him,I just act with pausing to ask God, but I always ask God about other aspects of my life. So it’s like my associating with him is a minus for my spiritual life and that’s a huge cause for concern.

At this point, I want to tell my parents I am not convinced it’s him but I’m afraid of the disappointment this will cause. *sigh* I’ll appreciate your thoughts, comments, criticisms...
You are either a new Lord's Chosen or Deeper life member who thinks any other christain who is not a member of your church is not human. This is how these two churches see other people, your church has brainwashed you to not marrying a non member, well pls, tell the innocent man that you are not interested anymore so he can go and find a wife.
By the time you clock 40 without a husband, the charm might have cleared from your eyes.

I will love you to teach me business. When you know too much you miss a lot of details. Most small scale business you neglect make upto that amount daily. The reason why you are still in a white collar job is because you are blind or feeling to big to do certain type of small scale business.
No start up business with capital of 100k to 200k will give you 10k per day, you can only get that amount when the business has passed growth and expansion level.
Considering the economic downturn in Nigeria now, the cost of doing business has multiplied. You can make 10k from a business but not a start up business.

Anyone with a Reliable business idea that can be powered with 100-200k with potential of making average of 10k daily. If you have pls share your idea here in brief. I willing finance the whole plan and can make the business even bigger if it sounds interesting and profitable. We just arrange a profit sharing formular, while you remain the boss of your business.
If there is a legit business that can give you profit of 10k per day when you invest 100k to 200k then even those NNPC workers will resign from their job and start the business. Do you even know what business is?

Upon graduation what are you going to communicate en mass?

This is what I’ll do if I were to be in such fix.

Take up the course since it requires minimal effort to make a 2.1 in such field. Channel your time and energy into learning IT skills online - coding, web dev., data science, . . .

Nigeria of today is no longer by what you read in school.

It’s either who you know or what you can do.
No course require little effort to make a 2:1, in the school i graduated from, Political science dept that is seen as being cheap graduated lesser students with little very little 2:1.

I'm a graduate from one of the south west university in Nigeria, and i spend all my life in Lagos state , and also a yoruba guy from Lagos State.

But due to the rising and unavailability of good jobs around, i have been thinking of moving over to the North for greener pasture, i want to leave my comfort zone.

So, two states are on my mind, plateau state or gombe.

I really want input of individuals on this issues:

Cost of living

Availability of jobs

Security

Acceptability of strangers, and many more.

Which state do you guys think is ok, I'm really in need of a good job.

I will really appreciate this topic to be in frontpage so as to reach wider audience.
OP did i just hear you say good job in Plateau or Gombe state? There is only one good company in Jos, Nasco pays graduates 40k others are Swan paint pays lower than Nasco, in Gombe there is only Ashaka cement, they don't mostly have vacanies. There are no jobs in the North not to talk of good jobs, i will advice you to stay in Lagos or move to other southern states if you have free accomodation, but if you are hell bent on moving to North, then move Jos and do small business but be careful, Jos is home to religious crisis.

He's very good on all other aspects but his stinginess is beyond human comprehension and my friend don't want to appear as been materialistic.

The last straw that broke the camel's back was when she demanded if he could get her pads and some few stuff on his way to her place and when he eventually bought and brought the items to her, he calculated everything he bought and was waiting to be paid which she eventually did and imagine he got the nerves to collect the money from my friend (Just some few thousands), he's very rich so brokenness is out of it.

We've exhausted all the escuses we thought would work out to dump him but he somehow have ways around them (very annoying) and my friend wants to be diplomatic. Please your suggestions are highly welcomed. Thanks
Your friend is a good defination of a leech... Sorry, but what have your friend ever gotten for him, the gentle guy thinks it is irrational to spend on a girl that feels it is the responsibility of a guy ro spend on his girlfriend. Many of the staff we employed in Abuja and Kano were from the South all parts. Some ended up in government jobs others even did visa lottery which we supported and they went abroad. Today we still have 70% of staff from the south. Anybody that tells you not to go where standard of living is cheaper doesn’t want your progress.
