i swaped a hp dv5 HDD wif a dv6 HDD both of dsame OS but it refused to boot afta d HP screen displayed. Dough it has been wokin like dat each time i do it to retrieve a data from d oder disk.since den i replacd d dv5 wif its own HDD it still refused to boot afta d hp screen.

dumb move, i guess the hdd u swapped already has an os(operating system on it), only windows 98 is transferrable to another machine, solution is, get all the important files u need wen replace the hdd into its dv5(alsoget a driver magician or simply got my computer--->c:---->swsetup folder(folder that contains all ur drivers and back it up) and save them into a flash or somewhere else, now,put ur dv6 hdd in and do a clean format/installation, first thing is to use ur saved swsetup folder to run the drivers then restore all ur useful saved documents), qed

meet a hardware technician,its definitely a motherboard problem, my hp laptop has been retired now due to that symptom u described, motherboard costs from 20k and above

I use HP laptop with vista OS. It came with a trial norton anti virus. After the norton expired,I tried to install trend micro but it failed installation and when I try to re-install it,it says I should delete uninstall earlier version (which failed installation). If I try to unistall,it doesn't complete the process.

Recently,I installed avast and now I bought kaspersky but it won't install. I have uninstalled the avast successfully.

The kaspersky software says norton and trend micro are running and I should uninstall them.

I went to uninstall but norton and trend micro are not in my list of programs.

I need to protect my system with an antivirus preferably kaspersky.

Kindly advise way forward.

hi, wat really happened was that the norton pre-installed on ur system was a set, (norton antivirus,norton site advisory, ).so u have partially uninstalled only the norton antivirus and not the whole products, no need to do the regedit tin(u will definately get lost there) as advised earlier,here is the simplest solution, goto softpedia.com, and download norton removal tool 2011.0.1.9(thtas the latest), place it on ur desktop and run it, it will remove all the norton products on ur system,
for the trend micro, get the removal tool from http://www.support.antivirus.co.uk/trendmicro/kbresolution.jsp?hmid=2530&appId=1
scroll down to download the pcc tool 32bit or 64 bit depending on the version of windows vista u use, most likely download pcctool 32 bit or 2009 Uninstall Tool TISTOOL 32-bit,
(or just re-install the trend micro) and properly un-install, its hard from here to know if u installed only their antivirus or the whole internet security,
when ur done,u can now re-install ur kaspersky, for help on kaspersky(commercial license key on daily basis,offline update,kasp key loader,kasp rescue usb)contact me(the g missing in kaspersky), i've got all the kasp tools even kaspersky never knew existed,

4hoodboi,i av always warned dat avast antivirus has little or no tolerance4malwares and even false positives-anytin the scanner flags as a suspect is 'deleted' and not 'disinfected'&dats y i always recommend kaspersky because deletion can only b d last option after disinfection or quarantine routines.Im afraid ur SAM files have been partially deleted.The only2options left here are2either repair ur os or do a clean format.Good news is,if u remove ur harddisk and put in2an external enclosure,u can still copy out ur important documents before formating.If u stil encounter insufficient admin privileges,find a vista computer2attach d harddisk2.Vista will automatically inherit dos rights.Safe journey

for those suggesting ram and hard disk space for hibernation probs, thats never tru, its simply a simultaneous reference to a particular location on hard disk and in memory, so its expected to slow down, eg, its like trying to rejoin a bus on high speed rather from the bus-stop

be informed, wen u hibernate, it is always advisable u close any online activity,music,games or movie playing, the system on startup will try to reference the memory location holding such data, this is very evident wen ur playing music and u hibernate, on startup,u will get like a scratching sound because its trying to countinue from wer it stopped.dat way u will kill ur hard disk gradually, hibernation is best used wen u have idle programs running in the back ground

Omoboyo,try repairing ur os.Option2:ur hard disk may be defective of bad sectors(wen data cant be retrieved in a bad sector,u can get dat blinkin cursor).Get this program HDD REGENERATOR 1.71 by dmitriy primochenko(lovely program by d russian).U can also find it in the hiren bootcd under harddisk tools.disaster recovery(data recovery from damaged,formatted harddisk etc)is part of my biz.Callin me is always faster

4d dell inspirion 1500,go2control panel,system,device manager-check4any uninstalled driver.If u dont find-check4PCI device(its a combination of ur high def audio/modem).U will need the software WDM DRIVER(google it2download).Wen u install it,it will split in2high def audio&modem.After then,u can now install d audio drivers.PRECAUTION2ALWAYS TAKE B4FORMATTIN-find d program DRIVER MAGICIAN(2help u backup/restore ur drivers)after reformat.

Ders are prerequisite installations4 ym like dotnet,java runtime &vredist.Exe.Make sure d1st 2files have bin installed after a manual installation.Or simply verify by re-downloadin yahoo messenger(it may b corrupt).Goodluck

administrator acc is d acc u create during installation but only visible wen u enter safe mode.Here is a big secret-wen u4get ur password,simply enter safemode,use administrator2log in then go2control panel,user acc(u ll see ur locked acc)click on it,click remove my password&create a new one.'Assess d conversation&derive d info'

Point of correction-when ur attemptin an xp repair.On d 1st screen,u ll see R for repair,ENTER to continue.Press enter not R,u ll then see 'setup has found a previous installation of windows'.It will show u d partition'.Press enter to install into c:\windows directory or install into another directory.Install in2 first.It will now show u format using ntfs or fat32, Choose d last option-LEAVE FILESYSTEM INTACT.Setup ll now delete all the files in d c:\windows&install new ones-then ur repair is complete.
