KParker:
1. Nigerians are not the only people on Earth who have socioeconomic hardship. It exists in every country.
2. You say Nigerians have a lot of stinking rich, yet most people in your country are below poverty. I would say you have a few moderately rich and many poor. The majority of money made in Nigeria goes to oil companies or criminals. Much like my country, when you are poor, you resort to crime and distrust to provide for yourself.

Nigeria is a proud country, but it must learn to understand other cultures if it wants to change it's image. The first step is to look outside yourself and realize you must give respect to recieve it.
Many stinkingly rich, many moderately rich, an awful lot just break-even, a significant many poor.

Politics › Mend Demands N500 Million Unpaid Rigging Fee From Agagu by Sammy107d(op): 5:26pm On Mar 02, 2009
Akure — Olusegun Agagu, whom the Appeal Court sacked last Monday as Ondo State Governor, was on Sunday slammed with a N500 million bill by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) as the fee for helping him to rig the election in 2007.

The court itself ruled that he rigged the election, fired and replaced him with Olusegun Mimiko of the Labour Party (LP), to the jubilation of voters statewide who said Agagu failed to perform.

A text message sent out on Sunday by MEND Spokesman, Ajija Bounanawei, demanded the N500 million as "unpaid rigging fee," and saluted the Appeal Court for getting rid of Agagu.

Bounanawei said the claim by the MEND has been vindicated that it rigged election in Ese-Odo Council in favour of Agagu and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

To him, the verdict confirmed the role played by the MEND when the court concluded that there was massive rigging and violence in the council, which led to the death of Wahidi Idepe, a 300-level communicative arts student of the University of Ibadan (UI).

He congratulated Mimiko for reclaiming the mandate freely given to him by the electorate.

Bounanawei insisted that the N500 million was the contract sum agreed by Agagu and the MEND before the election, in a deal signed on his behalf by the former Secretary to State Government, Isaacs Kekemeke.

He alleged that Kekemeke, who is from Ese-Odo Council, was the link man between the MEND and the Agagu government until both sides fell out when Agagu refused to pay the fee.

Agagu has been ousted, Bounanawei noted, but he is still liable to pay the N500 million "or the MEND will go ahead and enforce payment in the usual MEND's style.

"For the fact that Agagu has enjoyed the spoil of the office of the Governor of Ondo State he occupied illegally for about two years, it becomes necessary that he pays up the debt on the purported election that brought him to power.

"The MEND will not rest on its oars until Agagu pays up the last kobo of the said fee, as we will employ every weapon in our arsenal to ensure he pays the money we have already worked for by rigging election for him and his cohorts in Ese-Odo Council."

Nonetheless, the MEND apologised to the people of the state, especially those in Ese-Odo Council, for helping Agagu to rig the vote on April 14, 2007.

No. The video is not a lie in its whole, neither is it entirely true. Just like all the scam scandals and poverty propaganda in the media. Im sure you understand what I mean. This guy's reply says it all.

"I was born and raised in Lagos, and I have a serious issue with the way you portrayed it. You claim you went to see Lagos, but you only went to the areas that would prove your point. Your coverage of my beloved, albeit tough and crazy city, is absolutely biased. You didn't see Lagos, you only saw the outskirts of Lagos.

I don't know how you can say that you saw Lagos when I know for a fact that you stuck to only a handful of neighborhoods, and the crappy ones at that. Of course the outskirts are going to look like that, we are a developing country, and we are changing. It's a gradual process. We are cleaning up our place, we are making changes, go back and see Lagos and this time don't just ask some travel guide to show you the nastiest neighborhoods, also take a look at the places that are improving.

People say that "Rome was not built in a day" well Nigeria, and Lagos in particular, is going to take a bit of work. But we are Lagosians and we are up to the task, we can survive anything. Please, if you return to my city, look for intelligent people to guide you through it, and speak to a wider range of people. Take your time to do the research. Go see Tafawa Balewa Square or Broad Street or the Aguda area, they tell a different story of Lagos.

Also go see the University of Lagos and speak to the students there, you want to know Lagos, the young people who are studying and struggling to make something of themselves are the people to ask because we are the ones who want to make it different, we are the ones who want to make it the best city."

@osisi
why are you writing crap like an ignorant person.cant you take culture into consideration? secondly, this is probably a stupid story thats not true and if he's doing that for real then im sure it'll be from his pocket not govt money. and if its govt money,im sure it will have to pass the state assembley and if it does then the state sees this as a solid policy for preventing social vice (in their opinion) so what are you talking about?
look not all northerners have multiple wives, as a matter of fact, many northerners have only one wife so the stereotype you're working with is completely fallacious, No wonder these people ran the country into the gutter?what? las time i checked, corruption was a nigerian problem not a hausa one or northern one.
i ask you to stop embarassing yourself with your utterly disgusting, outdated, worn out and ignorant stereotyping, you cant lump 70 million people into one ideology, there are many christian northerners and different people with extremely diverse world views and even cultures.why dont you concern yourself with governors from the south who are busy packing millions.northern this northern that.seriously give up already!!your stereotypes are worn out, over used and out dated.is it not enough for you to say the gov is spending govt. money for an illegitimate cause? why do you have to add "no wonder THESE PEOPLE" ran the country into the gutter" please open your mind.haba
I would have hailed your post but for the emboldened part. That an act is cultural doesn't justify its correctitude.
So no. You can't take culture into consideration.

debosky:
Depends on who is using the term

Historically, it referred a whip or flexible piece of wood used to inflict punishment/beating.

Nowadays, due to musicians like D'banj and his 'koko' philosophy, koboko is now used as a slang meaning male privates.
It's a whip made out of finely entwined strings of pure raw leather. It's the thing mums bought from cane chewing mallams to decorate the top of the closet back in the days.

Politics › Daukuro Paid $2.5m Ransom To Secure Wife’s Release — Mend by Sammy107d(op): 5:14pm On Feb 10, 2009
Daukuro paid $2.5m ransom to secure wife’s release — MEND

Warri—MOVEMENT for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta claimed yesterday that former minister of state for energy, King Edmund Daukuro, Mingi XII, the Amanyanabo of Nembe Kingdom, paid 2.5 million dollars in cash to the ransom-demanding hostage takers who abducted his wife, Mrs. Gladys Daukuro, to stop them from raping her.

Mrs. Daukuro was released on Friday, three days after her kidnap, last Tuesday, by six armed men at Agudama Street in the D line area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State shortly after the commissioning of her new restaurant and taken to an unknown destination.

Sunday Vanguard could not confirm the payment of the ransom from the family, yesterday. Spokesman of the MEND, Jomo Gbomo, in a press statement, said, “MEND can confirm that the former minister of state for energy, Edmund Dakouru, paid the sum of $2.5million (US Dollars) in cash to the kidnappers of his wife after they threatened to gang-rape her every day.

The security agencies were kept out of the negotiations as the family, like many in the Niger Delta, have lost faith in them”.

But the palace of the Amanyanabo denied last night that any ransom was paid for the release of Mrs. Daukuro. It recalled that the same MEND had vowed not to interfere in the matter, wondering why it was now talking about ransom. “The palace will not stoop so low to pay any ransom.

In any case, it is a sacrilege in Ijaw land for anyone to abduct the king’s wife”, sources told Sunday Vanguard.
