The guy is a chartered accountant and an assistant manager with a coy in Nigeria.

I presently work in small part of Sussex with average salary of #30yearly
My Tfare yearly to work on Public transport is less than one way flight ticket from Lagos to Abuja. Family also have free travel pass but the rent over here cari muscles. Average monthly rent na £1300 for 3bedroom and roughly £350k for mortgage.

Due to high prices in the country, I don't want to get serve breakfast were my rent will increase to £1400monthly.
I saw 3bedroom house in Doncaster which cost averagely £750 monthly or £180k for mortgage. But relocating there means starting a new life with family. Any idea of those living close or lived in Doncaster before. How are jobs over there?

Doncaster is a nice town, in my opinion. If you considering going there look at simple life. They develop new builds and rent out at reasonable price, New build 3 bedroom semi detach duplx was going for £750 at a time, with access to good schools for the kids and all. Don't know the current rate.

I saw the back and forth on pay scale earlier and i didnt want to dig in so as not to add flames to it. But i believe both sides of the argument have got points. Its fantastic getting 22k job, heck even take 18k if thats whats available(man must hustle,bills must be paid), but know that its also possible to bag the top end job too(this is me putting it loosely as top end is relative). My spouse was able to get a job of over 70k with her naija experience just after 2 and half months of landing(student dependant), but before that she got rejected from several 30k-45k jobs and was got discouraged severally, she started a 19k customer support role and did it for 3 weeks before the main job arrived.

I would say do what works for you. Also there a lot of customer support roles that students can do if the dont want to work in care. Concentrix is always recruiting they have part time roles for students and fulltime too. Webhelp is another one and they are fulltime remote roles(but its fulltime). Hsbc, lloyds and satander(am sure the other high street banks do too) are always recruiting for customer service advisors. Hsbc is usually hybrid, santander remote, and i am not sure of lloyds, with these bank you can pivot to other departments after a while if thats your forte cos you will have access to internal vacancies. In all these always put at the back of the mind that if your field and experience from naija allows it you can get a great job too.

@tizzdi People usually do it the other way round, school in leeds and live in bradford, thats because bradford usually have cheaper accomodation than leeds. That said, I know a family that did it, wife was schooling in bradford but they decided to stay in leeds since her classes was only twice a week (Bradford to leeds is about 40 mins bus ride.) Hubby was able to bag a fantastic job in Leeds of over 60k, he had extensive banking experience from Nigeria.

If you looking for apartment in leeds and you a student, try unipol, they are a charity that support student with low cost accomodation, although I believe most of the places might already be taken up,

Because the january session is structured such that you have 3 months summer holiday where you can work full time (June,July,August) ,at least for most courses.

Honestly I want to study but you will agree with me that it pays for man to do the hustle until everything is balance than woman doing the hustle. The hustle required for couples on the student route to balance well is not a child's play.

It depend on what you regard as hustle, you wife can get a full time job, it doesn't have to be menial jobs, better if she has previous experience from nigeria, and if she doesn't she can get entry level roles. Look at all options. WIsh you all the best in your decision making process.

I had like input from people that have been in a similar situation or know someone that was in a situation similar. My mum is currently in the US, she is a Nigerian passport holder visiting te US, Is it possible she apply for a UK visit visa from the US or we have to wait till she returns to Nigeria before we apply for her. I would have loved if she is can apply from the US as that way we would not have to wait for the next 4 months till she returns to Nigeria. The visit visa wait time have been affected by the Ukrainian visa scheme so wait it a lot longer.

Save yourself your hard earned funds and register for a £29 cyber security course on coursera, or udacity, udemy etc. Its not about how much you pay for a course its more about what you use the course for. Also if you have access to a student email account google dca(dot)mmersivelabs(dot)online and register and free access to labs.

@amarathriple0, I will research and apply for these voluntary roles, but I'd appreciate if you can share links or info about companies offering these voluntary roles.

That job role can make a very good case for project management experience depending on how you apply it(refine it to show more project management experience), Just be able to apply situations you encountered on the job with project mgt lingua, know things like project plan, risk register, stakeholder management etc apply the STAR method of answering interview questions(loads of resources on youtube). If you have the bandwith, do these while going through your certification, it prepares you for the real thing, and make u you understand the things you studying for. And like someone said, apply for volunteer project management roles. When you applying for roles, you can apply for roles like project support officer, business support roles, etc. these get you into project based scenarios and you can work your way up from there.

See below request for temporary data analyst(fully remote) on cv library..main requirement is excel skill, low rates but one can leverage it to get better roles.

@hustla There are lots of places in leeds depending on budget, if the person is a student then headinley/hyde park would not be a bad area, (although hyde park has some dodgy areas) close to most leeds uni's. Like someone earlier said seacroft, whimoor and even middleton are close to center and decent rent. Spareroom, zoopla, rightmove are you best bet to getting a place(if you look hard enough you will see some city center studio apartment for £450). For a lower budget one can rent in bradford which is a bus ride to leeds city center(20- 30 mins). Options abound depending on the size of the pocket.

@Harlem22 Start from the basics, understand data and the different data types, this would help with your data wrangling, understand the different types of problems you have to solve as a data scientist, supervised-were you have target label(regression,classification) and unsupervised learning-no target label(clustering, association, dimentionality reduction). An easy path to take could be, see yourself as data analyst first, learn and master microsoft excel, power bi/tableau and SQL and you should be able to land a gig as data analyst. From there you keep doing data science projects, there are lot and lots dataset for this on kaggle(vary your projects to cut across different areas e.g market basket analysis, recommending systems, churn, stock market prediction, email spam detection..Use this to build a portfolio, get a github profile. Learn python or R(python is used more in the industry). its easy to get overwhelmed by all this but creating a roadmap and taking it one at a time,is one of the ways dreams are achieved.

Applied for my spouse barely 4 days after she got refused by her bank HSBC 2wice, got approved immediately, me self no belive am. She also entered the country barely 3 months too. Dont sleep on amex cards. I didn't expect such approval if not I too would have applied myself. I went for the Post office card. would switch to amex later.

The earlier you start the better. Usually the biggest obstacle is the deposit so once you have that, Bob's (We need a 9ja name) is your uncle.

I hate new builds but that's me. There are pros and cons to both. My biggest issue with new builds is that they carry a price premium, usually smaller rooms and plots and the area is stark ie no trees, plants etc as they would have been chopped down to clear the site.

If you have school aged children, you can't go wrong by buying in good school areas regardless of new or old. Sometimes in a hot market like the current one, choice also gets taken away from you.

With the rising energy bills, it can go a long way in determining ones choice between old and new build. supposedly new build are more energy efficient as compared to old build. I really didn't know the impact of energy efficiency until I visited a friend on a cold winter day and noticed how their house was warm. I commented that they must be paying a lot for heating, he told me he pays around 100 quid monthly and that heating was not on at the moment, I checked the thermometer and the temperature was at 22 degrees, my head wan burst because in my house even when there is heat outside, the house is usually cold. his 4 bed -£100 , my 2 bed £340.I have installed draught excluders on doors and embarked on drastic energy saving measures.Hopefully it reflects in this month bill. when It gets to time to buy, I know it would play a role in my decision(amongst other factors).
