I'm wondering what are the 'Personal reasons' that will make you go for deutsche bank, Deutsche bank get plentyyyyyyy wahala ooo!! If you go on YouTube, you'll see videos of Indian students in Germany complaining about that bank. My advice: stick to Fintiba. Kryptomeniac: Good day everyone, I want to confirm from those who have tried or have idea about block account opening at the embassy. I have a finitiba account already, but for some personal reasons, I will like to open and fund a new Deutsche Bank BA. I have gone through the documents required but I am not yet clear on this *evidence of the source of your funds*. Must the source of funds (probably my naija account statement) reflect the exact €8640/equivalent in naira of the expected BA sum? Or can I go with my bank statement showing any reasonable amount, with the hope of completely funding my BA to the expected €8640 total amount as time goes on after opening the BA |

Open a block account. Take the opening confirmation form for your interview. After your interview, once your SL arrives, forward it to the embassy alaafyn: Good afternoon Ẹ family
My interview is in few days, I was supposed to use SL but there is a delay in that and now I'm stucked. I don't know if the SL will be available before the interview and I don't have a block account. My question is should I go without means of funding to the interview or open a block account prior to that day. Any suggestions will be welcomed.
Thanks to all. |

Thank you. I've been learning A1 on my own, do yo think I should also learn A2 on my own before enrolling in a language school? Hadampson: If you have the money, i will suggest you learn it in a language school. Learn A1 before you enrol in any language school.
Learning it on your own requires a commitment, endurance etc.
It's not easy to learn it on your own but there is no harm in trying.

To fund your BA simply go to any bank, open a domiciliary account, buy euro from aboki and fund the dom account then transfer to the BA. Jupp: Greetings all, please I want to know which bank in Nigeria that has a platform for blocked account funding, if you know any kindly drop your mail or contact so I can reach you personally. I’m still learning on how to navigate here |

I know someone who got to germany 7 weeks after lectures started. he said it was difficult to catch up and he had to drop some courses (Schooling in Germany no be beans). So it depends on you and your course. If it's engineering, I will advise you defer to next semester so that you can be ready. But if you feel that you can catch up, then fine. Godsgracee: I was offered admission to study in Munich (MSc). I did my enrollment in proxy and funded before visa interview. It’s been 4 weeks into lectures now and I’m not yet in Germany because of delay in visa. The last info I got from the embassy is that my visa application is still under review. Since lectures have already started, would this negatively affect the outcome of my visa? |

I second this. He stated that his passport expired in 2017. 2017 fa!!!! the first question they will ask you is why did you book appointment with a long expired passport Please don't take the chance, cancel then apply for a new date WITH A VALID PASSPORT. Adeniyii2017: This your advice get as e be for the following reason: First, there is currently an option for him to cancel and re-book for the visa interview. The question they’ll ask him would be why did he refuse to do that? Second, he ought to know that his passport would have expired before the time of the interview. It was clearly stated that there would be a gap of 2-3 months between the date of announcement and the interview date. @ olamitodotun If you can read this, cancel and rebook, my two cents. This is not the usual winter!! |

I sincerely doubt that the VO will listen to him. Please tell him to cancel the appointment and book under the right category or face getting bounced on his interview day. Also, it's been said here that some scholarship recipients do get interviewed in Abuja (even before this new booking system) Philfit: People residing in Abuja I just got information that someone was posted to the Abuja consulate for interview. All he did was to put his location as Abuja when booking. Edit: He later said he booked under category A and and said yes he has scholarship even without scholarship, hoping to explain to the Vo on the day of his interview |

Please take your question to the Student thread. This thread is about student life, work and living in Germany overall. Questions about applications, visa, schools etc should be asked in the student thread. Godsgracee: I don’t know if this is the right section to bring this up; I’m doing it because I believe those here are current or former student in Germany. I was offered admission to study in Munich (MSc). I did my enrollment in proxy and funded before visa interview. 1. You can get accomodation on the private market but it'll be difficult for you to get it whilst still in Nigeria. Most landlords will require your presence before renting out their apartments. 2. It's been said several times on this thread that you must open your BA before going for interview (except you have SL or scholarship). It's not a must that you fund before interview but you should fund as soon as possible after interview to prevent any delay in getting your visa. Olatayogreen: Hello Children of God, Schönen Tag.
Anyone in the house schooling in Leipzig ?? I have been trying to get affordable housing and accommodation using studentwerk but the costing are quite high. Can anyone here please advise me about other alternatives asides studentwerk.
Also please anyone, are masters students also required to open a block account in Germany ? Is it advisable to open the account before my interview here in Nigeria ?

Personally, I think truly there has been an upsurge in student visa applicants to DE which is why the embassy is bringing up these rules. however, e never bad reach US or Canada applicants oo. Also winter applicants are usually more than summer applicants My advice is that do as much as possible to give yourself an edge coz its obvious that having AL is no longer enough. Fund your BA before interview, write Goethe exam (if you have time), anything that will push you further, do am. May God reward all our efforts. |

This your analysis ehn.... my heart don cut. you're forgetting all the application process money, uniassist fees, shipping of docs to DE, visa fee etc. it's well oooo Goztino: which means, judging from information I have gathered so far, In rough estimate for a low budget Nigerian , this is what you should hold if you are planning to enter Germany for education.
1. Block Account = #3,600,000 2. Flight fee = #300,000 3. Pocket money = #285,000 (if you have block account) 4. Money for clothes and foodstuffs = #70,000
TOTAL = #4,250,000 |

Thanks a lot Hadampson They say a good man learns from his mistakes but a wise man learns from the mistakes of others. I wanted to apply for winter 2019 but after reading this thread and the student visa thread thoroughly I understood that if you want to succeed in DE, you have to plan thoroughly. So now I've pushed back my application to summer 2020 so I can write at least A2 here in Naija. It seems so far away but I know it'll surely be worth it. My advice to my fellow aspirants: Patience is a virtue and knowledge is power. Hadampson: Experience isn't always the best teacher, i tell people you can always make the experience of other people your best teacher. You don't have to go through the same experience to learn.
Yes, from the old/new posts, most German veterans emphasized on learning the language to some level before leaving Nigeria for Germany.
Please i know some people are very occupied but try to adjust your schedule, even if na just 30 lesson everyday.
Goethe institute is there for those that have the money to learn it there and if you happen to be like me (poorest guy ), you can learn by yourself. I know somebody here on nairaland who learnt Hwagui to the level of fluency before travelling to South Korea for studies. If he can do it, you can do it.
Hwagui is by far more difficult than German. Instead of studying the grammar rules and sentence structure, you can start memorizing the useful phrases. I think its faster that way.
For those that fall in the second category.
