It depends on the city. If its a big city you might get job. If it's a small city, you might not find job without German. Though its advisable to learn German before going, you'll be at an advantage. Plus everyone's grace is different. Onaco: |
Are you sure about the bolded? My sister is a student in Ukraine, she opened a GTB dollar account before she left and we send money to her via the account a lot. iPOD007: |
Hadampson has already given a good answer, let me add extra - write IELTS instead of TOEFL, it's also accepted in Europe, it's cheaper (I paid 68k with MOD) and it's easier (I know a lot of people who have written both and they say IELTS is easier) and less tasking (IELTS is 2 hours 45 minutes while TOEL is 4hours). Just know the minimum band score the schools you're applying to requires and target a bit higher. - Different schools have different application process. Go on daad.de, search your course and the schools that offer. Use the advanced search filter and tick "summer semester" because many schools only offer certain courses in winter semester. - Once you've found the schools, find out the application process. This will help you plan your budget. Some schools require uniassist, some you apply directly. - if you don't have international passport, please get one immediately. NIS have not been friendly recently. I hope this helps. teelaw4life: |
courier envelope from PH shouldn't be more than 5k. Anything above that, it's someone trying to cheat. Check other DHL offices or FedEx. means of substenance is BA or SL or scholarship. Please go with one for your interview. For BA, you don't have to fund before the interview but you should fund as soon as possible to prevent delays in visa MissNK: |
No. Goethe Institute is the only official body that conducts the Zertifikat exams here in Nigeria. allinall: |
2.1 is not a bad score, but unfortunately the school (or the program) asked for 2.0 minimum, which means if your CGPA is higher than 2.0, you don't qualify. You should have checked the school's website before applying, the information would have been stated there clearly. bear in mind that in German grade, the lower your CGPA the 'better' it is i.e someone with a CGPA of 2.0 is better than someone with a CGPA of 3.0, unlike Naija where reverse is the case. It happened last year and in 2017. And it seems there's an upsurge this year. But we can't say for sure chiboy429: |
Then cancel and rebook. The embassy will soon stop giving dates for winter, no time to waste time. HighPriest0: |
If you've been banned (I really hope not) then you won't be able to book appointment for the next 6 months. If your passport has 6 months or less validity then you can apply for a new passport and use it to book your appointment. HighPriest0: |
That's strange. Tweet them your enrolment ID and processing office. Try and be a bit aggressive. chiboy429: |
My sister, you're absolutely right. Those people showed me pepper!! Never again will I process my passport there. heybaby12: |
Go on twitter and tweet at them @nigimmigration. I had the same issue with the Port Harcourt office; for 2 months after biometrics capturing, they kept telling me they didn't have booklets, till someone gave me this advice. My passport was produced the same day I tweeted and given to me. chiboy429: |
it's more than enough if you're truly serious. A1 is basic beginner levl; not hard at all. you just need to learn - the Nominative, Accusative and Dative case ( also learn the prepositions that goes with each case). - Prasens (Present tense), Perfekt (simple perfect tense) and Praeteritum ( Simple Past tense) - Memorise at least 500 words for your vocabulary. For nouns, please memorise with the article (der/die/das) , it makes things simpler. For verbs, memorise both the basic form and the past participle form (partizip II) and whether the past particle goes with 'haben' or'sein'(the basic rule is that 'sein' is for verbs that signify movement or change of state). For adjectives, just memorise the basic form but bear in mind that adjectives are also declinated (just like nouns) but adjective declination is A2/B1 level. - It's good to know grammer rules but don't focus so much on them. Practice by writing and speaking (even if it's just to yourself). Kolombo88: |
not the Goethe school certificate but the Zertifikat, the exam is conducted by the Goethe Institute and is accepted internationally. Even if you attend the language course Goethe Institute teaches, you'll still have to write the Zertifikat exam to get the certificate that is recognised internationally. Olasenie: |
Learning B1 by October, assuming you're an absolute beginner, is nearly impossible. Plus Goethe Institute only conducts the B1 exams three times a year (April, July and December) which means if you want to get the certificate by October, you'll have to write the exams in July, which is not possible. I hope you applied to other schools. marisalfred: |
Yes you have to, but each school has its own requirements. Some schools you have to go through uniassist, some schools you forward the documents to them directly. Some schools you only upload scanned copies of your documents online or send via mail. Check the requirements. And please read through this thread, you'll find all the answers to your questions. Some schools insist on IELTS/TOEFL, while some will waive it in favour of a letter from your university stating that you were taught in English. But writing IELTS/TOEFL increases the number of schools you can apply to. Feyishayommy: |
YES, precisely 8640euros in a blocked account OR a scholarship OR sponsorship letter from someone legally living and working in DE. japhethGold: |
Go to the German student thread you'll see transcripts of people that have done interviews. Obeche1: |
Please don't ask for SL on the internet!!! If you follow me the student thread you'll know that you can get scammed. dgee1: |
Read Part 4 and 5 of the german student thread. honestly, from what i've been hearing, i'd advice everyone to learn german (and get the zertifikat from goethe institute) before going over to DE, even it means pushing back your application. but Nigerians in general are not patient people plus we no dey hear word ![]() Whitemagic: |
Hello Hadampson I thought to share this here. For understanding the german tenses, I recommend this website https://deutsch.lingolia.com/en/grammar/tenses Very helpful and explanatory, plus with exercises to practice with. Also for those self-learning German and will like to know what level they've attained, take this placement test https://learngerman.dw.com/en/placementDashboard After 2 months of self-learning I'm now ready for A2!

It depends on what you want in life. You need to consider standard of living; while you might make more money in Germany, you'll also spend more in terms of insurance, taxes, rent etc. Also getting a good job depends on your course, skill and how much German you can speak. Earning one million as a student, hmmm I will not say its impossible but I will advise you to forget about hammering while studying (unless you want to abandon your studies which is not a good idea). I've been speaking with an Indian friend who is studying in the same school I'm planning on attending in DE and let me share the information I got from him with everyone here. Do you know why Indians succeed wherever they migrate to? It's not just because they share information with one another but because they actually LISTEN AND TAKE ADVICE. My Indian friend told me that when he was planning to go to DE, he was advised not to step foot in DE without at least B1 in German. He had to stay back in India for a year learning the language and getting the certificate from Goethe. He said he has met many Nigerian students who can't speak Deutsch and they are struggling in terms of moving around and getting jobs. I told him we have a forum here on the Internet (Nairaland) where we share information with one another and we've always been told to learn the language before going to DE. He said and I quote "Then why don't you guys listen?" I've said my own you can process this information as you wish. Oh, he said as a foreigner, all the German you speak means nothing without the official certificate from the Goethe institute to prove it, especially when applying for jobs. PS: if you are going to OVGU Magdeburg and you don't have at least A2 Zertifikat, it will be very difficult for you to get student jobs. Most of the people who can't speak German have to either go to other cities for jobs or relocate altogether. And this is not just coming from my Indian friend, some Nigerians who are there also said the same thing. |
If you have been rejected for msc because of your cgpa then apply for Bsc, you might get admission. How ever time is running out for winter application, so check daad for schools that their applications are still open or even better apply for bsc to the schools that rejected you for msc. If you can't make it this winter you'll surely make summer. Don't rush, don't put unnecessary pressure on yourself (be thinking like 'I must enter DE this year') and don't lose hope!! mboyo: |
I understand your comment but It's NOT about getting dates; it's about getting dates that allow one to meet up with enrollment deadline. Some schools don't give enrollment extensions and it can be quite frustrating to apply, get AL and not be able to meet up because you got late appointment date. So please if you're awaiting AL and you have a close enrollment deadline, you can go ahead and book. But remember to cancel your appointment at least ONE WEEK to the date if you don't receive AL. Some schools accept EPL (English Proficiency Letter) while some insist on TOEFL/IELTS. If you have the time and money, it's better to write the TOEFL/IELTS as it will increase the number of schools you can apply to. robinicule: |
Wow....Seriously That's appalling. But you were told to remove the cancellation link na, what happened? I'm truly sorry Premiercare: |
I understand your frustration but putting this information here on a public forum is very risky because a lot of -Try to hustle for BA money depending on your means/circumstances. You don't have to fund before visa interview. - Find someone else that you know/are sure of to give you SL. -Pray that your original sponsor changes her mind and sponsors you. - Try to get a scholarship. Check daad.de for available scholarships. Anything is possible in this German waka BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL O, DON'T COME AND TELL US THAT SOMEONE HERE SCAMMED YOU. mayorgbasky: |
There's a filter for 'no tuition fees' did you use the advanced search filter? If you dif you'd have surely gotten tuition free schools. I've used this option many times iamauxin: |
