Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on allies of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) to provide military aircraft and tanks so it can continue its defence against Russia’s onslaught.
Mr Zelensky made the requests after U.S. President Joe Biden met with senior Ukrainian officials in Poland on Saturday. In a video address, Mr Zelensky described the West’s hesitance to aid Ukraine against Russia as “ping-pong”
“Ukraine needed just 1 per cent of NATO’s aircraft and 1 per cent of its tanks and would not ask for more,” Mr Zelensky said. “We’ve already been waiting 31 days. Who is in charge of the Euro-Atlantic community? Is it really still Moscow, because of intimidation?” he said.
Ukraine has received anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, small arms and protective equipment. However, fighter jets have not been included despite Kyiv’s multiple requests. On March 9, the United States declined Poland’s proposal to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine via a U.S. airbase in German.

Kanedrick Kingsley Agwu, a Calabar OAP nicknamed Fada Kane, has discovered he did not father his two children after 20 years.
Fada Kane, a staff of FAD93.1 FM Calabar on Friday morning took to social media to publish the DNA results of his two children whom he had with his former lover, Maryann Efa Duke.
The paternity test conducted by Universal Forensics Corporation showed that the broadcaster had 0.00 per cent chance of being the biological father to the children.
“This is to inform the general public that I, Kanedrick Kingsley Agwu popularly known as Fada Kane is not the biological father of Anthonia Duke and Paul Duke as alleged by one Miss MarryAnn Efa Duke,” the OAP wrote on his facebook wall.
“Attached here are the copies of DNA and court affidavit to further ascertain my claims. MaryAnn Efa and her family are free to contest the DNA results through the court where I too can legally file for damages for such allegations.”
Prior to his outburst on Friday, Fada Kane last week explained that he became a father at the age of 16 years which marked the beginning of his woes. He said he was thrown out of his parents’ house and became an object of ridicule among family and friends.
“As soon as my mum heard “I am pregnant for your son”…wahala set. I was just 16! At 17, I was already an alleged father of 2 and that was the beginning of this movie. I was thrown out from the house, pained and shamed by families and friends,” the broadcaster explained on Facebook.

A son of Professor Ali Isa Pantami, Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, who was reportedly kidnapped in Bauchi State, has been rescued.
According to sources, the minister’s son was found at a checkpoint in Dambam, one of the Local Government Areas of Bauchi State, on Friday.
The source did not state if any ransom was paid.
Daily Trust gathered that the victim, who was identified as Alamin Isa Ali Pantami, lives with his grandmother.
Confirming his release, one of the victim’s guardians, said, “We just left the house; he is back home now. He was found in Dambam, where his abductors dropped him. They dropped him at a checkpoint and from there, he was brought home.”
When contacted on Friday afternoon, the Chief Imam of Isa Ali Jummaat Mosque, Imam Hussaini, who had earlier refused to comment on the incident, simply told Daily Trust, “The boy is at home.”
But the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Bauchi, Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, said the matter was not reported.
He told Daily Trust that after he was contacted over the issue, he reached out to all the Divisional Police Officers in the metropolis and they said the matter was not reported.

The US Treasury Department was asked by the White House to stand down on sanctioning the Russian billionaire Abramovich after Zelensky personally made his pitch to Biden during a recent phone conversation, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Officials at the Treasury Department prepared a package of sanctions against Abramovich that were timed to coincide with a parallel announcement from the European Union, the Journal reported.
But Biden apparently acceded to Zelensky’s request for caution.
When asked whether Abramovich was acting as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia, State Department spokesperson Ned Price told reporters on Wednesday: “There are a number of channels through which our Ukrainian partners and their Russian counterparts can engage in dialogue and diplomacy.”
A spokesperson for Abramovich told the Journal: “For the negotiations, and in the interest of them succeeding, it is not helpful commenting on the process nor on Mr. Abramovich’s involvement.”
“As previously stated, based on requests, including from Jewish organizations in Ukraine, he has been doing all he can to support efforts aimed at restoring peace as soon as possible.”
Western governments have targeted Abramovich and several other Russian oligarchs with sanctions as they seek to isolate President Vladimir Putin and his allies over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
The British government froze Abramovich’s considerable assets in the country, including his prized soccer team Chelsea FC. The London club is now for sale, with several American billionaires reported to be in the running.
The West’s shunning of Abramovich has the billionaire oligarch scrambling to find a safe haven for his investments.

A United States court has scheduled the trial of a woman accused of helping the founder of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, to facilitate a $20 million bank fraud, to begin in June.
Ebony Mayfield, who allegedly signed and submitted false documents used by Mr Onyema to defraud banks, faces a bank fraud charge at the U.S. District Court of Northern Georgia, Atlanta Division.
Mr Onyema and Air Peace Limited’s Head of Administration and Finance, Ejiroghene Eghagha, also face 36 charges at the U.S. court in connection with the alleged fraudulent scheme. But they have yet to show up or send a lawyer to represent them in court.
However, a ‘Notice Setting Trial’ issued by Michelle Beck, a courtroom deputy clerk, on February 4, 2022, has scheduled Ms Mayfield’s trial to begin on June 27.
Between April 25 and May 16, according to the court’s schedule, parties are expected to file various preliminary motions and replies ahead of a pretrial conference and motions hearing slated for June 2.
The June 2 pretrial hearing will be the last proceedings before the jury trial scheduled to begin before the trial judge, Eleanor Ross, on June 27.
ALLEGED FRAUD
Prosecutors say Mr Onyema recruited Ms Mayfield to act as a manager of his Springfield Aviation Company LLC, which he allegedly used for perpetrating the alleged $20 million fraud between May 2016 and February 2018.
Springfield Aviation, according to court documents, was established by Mr Onyema in the U.S. state of Georgia in April 2016 purportedly to specialise in “the wholesaling, trading/ and sale of commercial aircraft and parts”.
But prosecutors say Ms Mayfield was recruited as a manager of Springfield Aviation with the role of entering into aviation-related contract on behalf of the firm, despite her lack of education, training, or licensing in the review and valuation of aircraft, including aircraft components.
In a court filing obtained by PREMIUM TIMES which Ms Mayfield filed for variation of her bail bond, she indicated to be “a food service professional” also known as waitress.
The alleged fraud allegedly began with Mr Onyema and others applying for export letters of credit to cause the transfer of funds purportedly to fund the purchase of aircraft by Air Peace from Springfield Aviation, between May 2016 up till at least February 2018.
In support of the letters of credit, Mr Onyema and others were said to have submitted documents such as purchase agreements, bills of sale, and appraisals proving that Air Peace was purchasing the aircraft from Springfield Aviation Company LLC.
The Head of Administration and Finance, Ejiroghene Eghagha, was said to have sent the documents to Ms Mayfield and directed her to sign them on behalf of Springfield Aviation.
Mr Eghagha, according to court filings, also instructed Ms Mayfield to present the documents to the respective banks in support of each letter of credit.
The support documents, U.S. prosecutors say, were found to be falsified. The aircraft that was referenced in each of the export letters of credit was also never owned or sold by Springfield Aviation, the government added.
The submission of the documents allegedly enabled Mr Onyema to cause banks to transfer more than $20 million into Atlanta-based bank accounts of Springfield Aviation controlled by him.
Mr Onyema, after receiving the money in the United States, allegedly laundered over $16 million the proceeds of the fraud by transferring it to other accounts.
The CEO of Air Peace, a major Nigerian airline operator, and Mr Eghagha now face 36 charges of conspiracy, bank fraud, aggravated identity theft, money laundering, and credit application fraud in the U.S. court. Ms Mayfield, on her part, faces only one charge of bank fraud in a different case at the same court.
PREMIUM TIMES reported that Georgia State authorities have dissolved Springfield Aviation allegedly used for the fraud. This was said to have followed the failure of the company to file its annual registration after its principal officials, including Mr Onyema, were charged in 2019.
Ms Mayfield was arrested on June 7, 2019 for her alleged roles in the alleged fraud. The U.S. government filed a charge against her in open court in December 2019. She has since been granted bail.
But no date has been fixed for the trial of Mr Onyema and Mr Eghagha by the U.S. court due to their unavailability.
BOND MODIFICATION
On December 28, 2021, Ms Mayfield filed an application in court for the modification of bail bond.
She requested that the court allow her to travel outside of the Northern District of Georgia; allow her pretrial supervision to be transferred to Houston, Texas in the Southern District of Texas.
Ms Mayfield said she would like to move back home and be near her family and continue her waitress job.
She added that she would like to move there on February 15, 2022.
Catherine Salinas, a U.S magistrate-judge, granted the request on January 19, 2022.

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Friday, warned President Vladimir Putin of Russia over his invasion of Ukraine.
Primate Ayodele warned that Putin would not go scot-free because he has resisted God’s warning to put an end to the crisis.
In a statement by his Media Aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the clergyman disclosed that plans to assassinate Putin is underway because he didn’t listen to God.
It would be recalled that Primate Ayodele warned the President a few days after the invasion that he should end the war because he foresees an assassination attempt on his life.
Unfortunately, Putin has not put an end to the war, causing more destruction in Ukraine as against the warnings sent to him by the man of God.
However, the clergyman noted that a Russian soldier will be used to execute the assassination plan.

Unknown gunmen, on Tuesday, launched an attack on the Amangwu Ohafia community in the Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State leading to the death of an unspecified number of people. According to the Nation, the gunmen also set fire to houses belonging to members of the community during the attack.
