Reports alleging that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has resigned have been debunked by a source close to the former River state Governor.

Recall Some online media (not vanguard) had reported that the Minister has resigned yesterday but the source close to Amaechi dismissed the reports describing them as unfounded and baseless.

Niger Delta Affairs Minister Senator Godswill Akpabio has resigned in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive.

The President during Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting ordered all cabinet members eyeing elective offices to quit before May 16.

In a chat with The Nation, Personal Assistant to the Minister on Media, Jackson Udom, confirmed his resignation.

He said: “the Minister has resigned. He has submitted his resignation letter to the SGF. We are waiting for him at the ICC, where he is coming to submit his nomination form”.

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s order, asking all his Ministers vying for political positions in the forthcoming general elections to resign, a popular Nigerian activist and 2023 presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore has asked the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to also resign.

In a tweet, Sowore said. Osinbajo who is also seeking the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC should resign to allow for a level playing field for all aspirants.

The activist who had also declared his intention to succeed President Buhari in 2023, lauded the president for his action.

He said, “It is good that @Mbuhari has asked his ministers contesting elections to resign, but it is also fair, ethical and I ask that Chief @ProfOsinbajo MUST resign as well so that there is a level playing field for all aspirants”.

DAILY POST had reported that President Buhari on Wednesday asked all his ministers eyeing elective seats to tender their resignation and focus on their ambitions.

The directive was handed to the affected cabinet members during the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, confirmed it to State House correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says serving under President Muhammadu Buhari has exposed and taught him how to govern a complex country like Nigeria.

“I have had the honour of serving under a transparent leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, who exposed me very diligently to all that there is to know about governing a complex and very diverse country such as ours,” Mr Osinbajo said.

“With the experience that God has given me and the exposure that I have had, including being acting President on occasions; if God enables me to become president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I think my experience, all I’ve learned, will be extremely useful.”

A statement released on Tuesday by Mr Osinbajo’s media aide, Laolu Akande, said that the vice president made this statement at the Palace of the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, during a visit to the state to canvass for votes from All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates ahead of the ruling party’s 2023 primary election.

Since declaring his interest to contest in next year’s presidential election, Mr Osinbajo has seized every opportunity to harp on building on the legacy of the Buhari regime if elected president; a rhetoric that has earned him widespread criticisms.

The Buhari legacy upon which Mr Osinbajo says he’ll build his presidency on has been tainted by heightened insecurity in the country as bandits, insurgents, unknown gunmen and criminals continue to kill, kidnap and wreak havoc across the country.

Under Mr Buhari, Nigeria in 2018 displaced India to become the world’s poverty capital, according to a report by Brookings Institution, while rising inflation rates have sent prices of food and commodities through the roof, even as the CBN battles foreign exchange crisis.

In the area of employment, whereas the Buhari regime claims that it has lifted 10.5 million Nigerians out of poverty, the World Bank estimates that seven million Nigerians dropped below the poverty line due to worsening inflation in the country in 2020.

Two people were killed in a bomb blast at an oil company in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo.

Police spokesperson in the state, Mike Abattam, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Owerri, said it occurred in the early hours of the day.

Mr Abattam said the explosion occurred at a facility operated by Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited.

“It happened, there was a bomb blast this morning at the facility but the commissioner has deployed our men to the site,” Mr Abattam said without stating if there was any casualty.

However, a witness who pleaded anonymity, said that two persons died in the explosion.

He said that the two middle-aged men were the carriers of the bomb, which exploded and killed them while they were trying to find their way into the flow station through the entrance.

Addax Petroleum is one of the two oil companies located in the Izombe community.

Some mourners at the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo were, on Saturday, attacked by bees during the customary rites for the late king.

Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo, died on Friday night at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti capital.

Adeyemi, who was aged 83 at the time of his death, spent 52 years on the throne.

The mourners were gathered in groups just outside the main palace area before the bees struck.

They, however, used leaves and tree branches which they used to defend themselves against the bees, while some persons fled the area.

The bees, however, left the area after hovering around the palace for about one hour.

Meanwhile, the kingmakers and traditionalists who performed the burial rites for the Alaafin did not give any comment on if attack by bees had any significance.

The Indigenous People of Biafra has assured Hausas and other non-indigenes residing in the South-East of their safety.


Emma Powerful, Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Powerful assured that members of the group would never harm Hausas residing across the South-East region.


He said IPOB and its militia arm, the Eastern Security Network, would protect Hausas against the Jihadists attacking the people of the South-East.


The statement reads, “Following the incessant abduction, killing and burning down of properties belonging to Biafrans and Igbos, we the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra under the command and leadership of our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to state unequivocally that those behind these atrocities are not IPOB member nor are they Eastern Security Network operatives.


“The perpetrators are criminals recruited by our enemies to demonise us. No member of IPOB will engage in acts inimical to the people we are struggling to liberate. We are not terrorists and we cannot suddenly resort to terrorism.


“These agents of darkness behind these senseless and barbaric acts are the ones who don't want our detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to be released. Their intension is to create the false impression that his followers are violent but they are wrong.


“We want to make it categorically clear to all and sundry that anybody committing any atrocity in Biafraland in the name of IPOB or ESN operative doesn't want Biafra to come. Those behind this madness are working with the Nigeria security to criminalise IPOB. They must also be prepared to pay for their sins because we will not allow anyone who inflicts pains and sorrow on our people to go free.


“We want to also very strongly condemn any attack on non-Biafran nationals living in our land. These agents of sorrow may be targeting them to further rope us into genocidal attacks which we have always stood against. Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had predicted what is happening during his numerous prophetic radio broadcasts. During those broadcasts, he had also spoken against attacks on non indigenes.


“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu made holistic announcement during those days that Hausas are facing the same predicaments Igbo people are facing in Nigeria and should be allowed to do business anywhere they like in Biafraland. Biafrans shall never try to harm any Hausa man or woman in Biafra land for any reason. IPOB will ensure the protection of all persons living in Biafra land including non indigenes. We will continue to protect them against our common enemy –the jihadists and their sponsors.”

The 18 wives of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, may now be available to suitors without undergoing cleansing rituals after the demise of the renowned monarch.

Oba Adeyemi, 83, passed on late Friday after receiving treatments at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti and is expected to be buried according to Islamic rites by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Although it is believed in the Yoruba tradition that the wives of the monarchs, either separated or still married are not at liberty to lay with other men until atonements have been made, palace sources told Peoples Gazette that the late Alaafin’s wives may now move on with their normal lives.

While the number of wives remains unclear, the sources told The Gazette that the late monarch had 18 wives. Although this outlet was immediately unable to verify other names.

According to belief, any man who lays with the wife of a monarch faces death. Still, as it is, Oba Adeyemi’s queens, Abibat (first wife), Rahmat Adedayo, Mujidat, Rukayat, Folashade, Badirat Ajoke, Memunat Omowunmi, Omobolanle, Moji, Anuoluwapo, Damilola, Chioma and others are now available for suitors.

“They are not performing any cleansing; They are free to move on with their lives,” he said. Nonetheless, he said. “The wives cannot get married to an indigene of Oyo.”

He added, “Now that Alaafin is dead, they all would be asked to exit the palace with their belongings. Although the properties of the late monarch would be shared among them.”

Mmes Abibat and Rahmat were married to Oba Adeyemi at the time of his coronation on January 14, 1971.

In a 2018 interview with Punch, Oba Adeyemi had said that he never proposed to any of his wives, but instead, they chose to cling to him because he sponsored their education.

“I did not propose to any of my wives. They desired to be with me because I sent them to school. After their university education, I told them to leave but they refused and insisted on staying with me here in the palace as my wives.”

Few years ago, some of his wives, Mmes Damilola, Anuoluwa and Badirat, moved out of the palace over various allegations.

Rumours had it that Mmes Damilola and Anuoluwa, who were in their 20s, left the palace in November 2020 because they wanted freedom. The latter had alleged that she lived in bondage. “It’s not my wish to walk out. I can’t continue to live under bondage. I wish to live, be the best I can for my children,” she said.

While Mrs Damilola soon tendered a public apology, alleging that her friends misled her, Ms Anuoluwapo had her wedding introduction in October 2021.

A Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, on Thursday, ordered that two men, Nura Usman and Adamu Dauda, be remanded in a correctional facility for allegedly defecating in a mosque.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the police charged Usman and Dauda with public nuisance and inciting violence.

The judge, Malam Rilwanu Kyaudai, adjourned the case till April 28 for the police to present witnesses.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Inspector Ibrahim Shuaibu, said Usman and Dauda were handed over to the Tudun Wada Police Station on April 11 by members of the community.

He said Usman was caught defecating in a mosque on Alkalawa Road, Tudun Wada, Kaduna, around 2 pm.

He said Dauda, the second defendant, had promised to give Usman N20,000 if he would defecate in the mosque.
