NFF sympathises with 62 Senators
NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi said on Friday that the Football Federation was grateful to God for sparing the lives of 62 Senators of the Federal Republic who were involved in a near mishap in Lagos on Thursday.
The lawmakers, according to reports, had chartered an aircraft from France for the flight to South Africa to support President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at Friday’s opening ceremony in Johannesburg, to which the Nigeria leader was invited by President Jacob Zuma.
However, their aircraft developed landing gear fault just after take-off at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, and the pilot had to return quickly to base to avert disaster.
“We have the Almighty God to thank for this. What would we have been saying? God is great and it is important that we always give Him thanks anytime things like this happen,” said Lulu Abdullahi.
The Senators eventually arrived and joined a strong Nigeria reception team for President Jonathan who arrived in Johannesburg at about 6.30 pm South African time on Thursday morning. I love this country. . . . . . |

Mr Black: I was thinking in that angle before i brought up this issue here. Like i said, i always like been objective and realistic before taking decisions. In all honesty, i see nothing wrong in paying for your girlfriend's ticket to visit you. . . . . Do you think she would do the same for you if the roles were reversed. . . .If the answer is yes, call your travel agent tonight and PAY. |

Mr Black: @ Sauron,
Well Said! You just read my mind. To me it's likely to go that way. We never stayed apart for so long and its clearly showing the distance is hitting us. That's why i even considered the idea in the first place. Now its a choice between my cash and relationship (Happiness), but like someone said, if she's mine she will wait. Such a gamble! I can flip it around and also say if you are hers, you would pay to get her the ticket. If i were you, i would pay for that ticket. . . . . .U copped that savings yourself. . . .There's life, you can save much more even if you spend everything tonight. |

Mr Black: I never thought it was totally a right thing to do and that's why i wanted to get everyone's opinion. So far the comments from all have been very helpful. Am thinking the best thing to do is to hold on, she gets to work and save some money and i get to use my cash for some biz that will fetch some interest over a few months. With that, we can both source for the ticket from a joint contribution, still have some excess cash left. Still weighing my options though, HONESTLY. What if you LOSE her before you save up tangible money to get her the ticket? |

TheSeeker: Earlier on June 19, I posted a problem I have on here about my girlfriend. Here is the link to the post https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-286125.0.html#msg4055643. I just received lots of voice messages asking me to talk to her as it's importantly urgent. I took a bet and called her to find out. She told me she is 6-month pregnant. What do you think I should do? I'm at a confused stage here. I am not a big fan of abortion and yes, I did make love to her and that was when I found out she has gone wider that she usually is and that was just once and I was done with her. Now, she's pregnant and just telling me after over 4 months. Better still do I just tell her to keep and have the baby and later I can go for a DNA test? I do not want to have anything whatsoever to do with her anymore then on a second thought, what if the child is born and he's mine? A lot of "what if's" here, please I need your advice, opinions and comments.
PS : I live in California but she's back in Nigeria now. No comment. |

jalether: In my opinion. England wouldn't miss Rio that much as they have a better alternative/replacement in Dawson and king.
Given his chronic back injury there's no guarantee that Rio would have had a good torney anyway I cannot believe you rate Dawson and King. The way Nani breezed past those two - i wouldn't rate them against quality sides. Dawson n King would be found out easily - King is more injury prone than Rio and Dawson is a card/penalty magnet. Patrice Evra is CLASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. . . . . . . |

jalether: Forlan has been shouldering all of Uruguay's creative burden. by coming in deep to get the ball, forces Suarez to play as a lone striker upfront. literally.
They seriously need a creative midfileder in that team I think the two of them are drifting too wide to work in tandem. They can score goals. . . . .I have seen enough of them to know it takes a moment of brilliance for either of em to pop from nowhere and score. Forlan has to release the ball early for his strike partner and Suarez must not drift too wide away from Forlan. Honestly, Heskey is a retard. He fell backwards as massive as he is and broke Rio's knee. . . . . .What kinda w@nker does that in training? With Rio out, i don't see England making it past the Q/finals yet again. |

dayokanu: How can anyone rate Evra as a top defender. He has been beyond clueless Shut up. . . . . He's been France's best defender. Even supporting the attack. Ribery on the other hand has been useless by a country mile. Scarface cannot play football and if you compare this log of wood to Nani again, i will pee in your nostrils. Rubbish winger. He should watch Ronaldo and learn how to beat his marker. jalether: Spot on. And to think we actually gave him a 4 year contract extension. very unwise decision on the board's part. Obviously, he's got better team-mates @ Chelsea. Even Messi would look clueless if partnered with a simpleton like Govou. |

ftmom: @ tkb
Trust me, I know where you are coming from. What we have in Naija is not "profit margins" but "profiteering margins."
I'm pretty sure those Yaba units won't cost N20m to build which means the profit margin for the developers is a lot higher. Even with the price of cement, labor is cheap enough and so are finishings that the developer would have to really go to town on finishings in order to get up to N20m cost price. When I first got back, couldn't get my head around the margins but it is what it is. If you build your own and advertise it for cheaper, the average Nigerian automatically assumes it's not as good This is so true. . . . . . .Nigerians want stuffs that are expensive. If the admission fee to any club is N10,000 and you manage to get one, put a fountain in the middle of the dance-floor and charge N100,000 per head, you will cop more attendance than the regular clubs that charge just 10K. I can't get that round ma head at all. |

ftmom: I will do my best to answer your questions:
1 For the average Nigerian, the more expensive something is, the more attractive it is. You see, living in the west, you learn to demand and expect value for the money you spend. Not so for the average person here , it's all that ostentation/vulgar display of wealth that is a part of our existence in Nigeria. So, really, I don't see any justification for the vast disparity between the Island and mainland areas. We live on the island because of my husband's job, it came with generous perks. We lived well in the west with no more than 30-40 minutes work commute each way so we weren't about to start spending hours in traffic. Not healthy for him and certainly not for our kids who schooled 3 minutes drive from home before we moved to Nigeria.
2 No doubt the prices are exorbitant, but don't forget that market is key and from my layman's analysis; Lekki still offers a very good return for the price you are paying today. A lot of nouveau riche call Lekki home because VI/Ikoyi are too expensive so you have that pool of yuppies to tap for rental income. They can afford to rent based on their salaries/allowances/loans, etc but can't afford to buy however still desire some quality of life from proximity to work
3) As rough as this axis is, the sights are still more acceptable compared to living in most places on the mainland. This might sound shallow but if you live on the island, you tend to think the average car on Lagos roads is no older than 3-5yrs old. Go to most parts of the mainland and you realise ramshackle cars still exist. Like I always say, the sights on the island are not exceptional but they are acceptable. A lot of returnees I know live on the island for this reason and in order to be close to the kinds of schools they want their kids to attend - makes sense if you work on the island to live there and have your kids school there too so you're not going through the traffic nightmare all the time
If the Chicago investment will fetch you the same tax-free returns as Lekki, I say go for it! but I doubt that
By the way USD30k is N4.5m, you must be talking Ajah and beyond, can't get a plot for that amount of money in Lekki. You have to know your Lekkis For Ajah and beyond you will still get good 3 bedroom accommodation for probably N500k and a lot less and the apartment would be cheaper to buy too but like in the west LOCATION is still key. The farther away you move from VI towards Lekki - Ajah - Epe, the cheaper it gets In all honesty, you have been an inspiration and a source of information on this thread. |

ftmom: Notice I referred to people with "legitimate income means" when I talked about mortgages - therein lies the difference. In my earlier post I talked about how looters and thieves flooded the market
Not saying your cousin is a looter but if you are a politician and go from being a squatter to getting a mansion in Lekki within the last 3 years. . . . . . . He is definitely a looter. . . . .He doesn't hide it. His excuse is genuine though - he said if he doesn't loot, he might get killed by his godfathers. They sponsored his election - they demand returns from him so that excuse is genuine to me. I am a very considerate human being. |
