4-5-1 most of the time but anytime we swept forward, it became a kind of 4-3-3.

Bora got it spot on that day.
He got it spot on in all the games in France 98 but his most trusted players let him down.
Peter Rufai kept assisting the Danes with goals. All the shots taken were parried by Rufai into the path of the Danish strikers and they finished exquisitely.

Kanu had the best chance of the game when he was put one on one with the goalie but his liver went berserk.
Taribo West was so useless it wasn't true. . . . . .We just didn't look mentally prepared for the match cos all the talk was about meeting Brazil.
It was a shower of shyte throughout the 90. They let Bora down big time.

What was best about the squad?
Are you a retard?
Must the best team necessarily play the best games?
Your uncanny ability to spew pukery is nauseating.

Peter Rufai, Mobi Oparaku, Nwankwo Kanu,  Rashidi Yekini, Garba Lawal, William Okpara,  Daniel Amokachi, Uche Okafor,  Augustine Eguavoen, Wilson Oruma, Benedict Iroha, Godwin Okpara,  Abiodun Baruwa
It's not about the individual players, it's the team ethics and how the system/formation deployed get the best out of the players.
11 world class players can lose to Stoke FC.

All 3 keepers were useless, Kanu was recovering from heart surgery and hardly kicked the ball for 2 years prior, Amokachi was injured, Eguavoen, Iroha, Yekini were past it. Uche Okafor, oruma, Garba Lawal are mediocres.

Thats what I can remember about them. They lost woefully before and during the tournament. 5-1 to Holland and 4-1 to Denmark.
U are chatting poppycocks.
What is to say USA 94 team wouldn't have lost to Holland and Denmark in the pre-tournament games?
Just because Westerhof played pre-tournament games with the 3rd division clubs of Eredivisie in 94 now means they played better?

D-K, your IQ keeps getting lower as the weeks go by.

Some people are definitely high on grade 1 ogogoro?

France 98 Best squad? Did you watch the football or you read it in Complete Sports

The same sqaud that lost 1-0 to Germany, 3-0 to Yugoslavia and 5-1 to Holland pre tournament.

In the tournament, won Spain 3-2. Bulgaria 1-0, Paraguay flogged us 1-3 and Denmark crushed us 4-1. (Our worst scoreline loss at National team level in a major tournament)

The France 98 squad that had covalescing Kanu, Injured Amokachie, Spent Peter Rufai, Dwarf Mobi oparaku, even Eguavoen made the team.

The best team for Nigeria was still US 1994
Dayokanu, shut up your mouth.
Sometimes it seems you read with your testes and not your eyes.
We are not discussing the best squad. . . . .We are talking about the best games Nigeria played in the World Cup.

France 98 team played the best world cup match. That much is clear unless you have madras eye.
Nigeria 3-2 Spain was a classic by every means. . . .better than Nigeria 3-0 Bulgaria and better than the boring Nigeria 2-0 Greece.
Pre-tournament games mean shyte. . . . . .The same team that lost to Holland/Yugoslavia went on to beat the tournament favourites, Spain.

dude,wering you chop dis afternoon?
all your analyses have been spot-on since today (minus the Evra for England),
I was about to say the France 98 squad played some of the best footie our national side has ever seen.
I still think the match we played against Spain in France 98 was the best world cup match we have played.
It had everything. Smart attacking moves with Ikpeba, Finidi and Adepoju running chaos in the Spanish defence.
That was football at it's very best.

dayokanu:
Destined to lose.

England? Can they ever do anything right?

Portugal? Till they meet Schweinsteiger

Argentina? If they can get rid of those EPL players like Mascherano and Tevez. At that Maradona is not smart enuff.

Mannschaft for the trophy even without the Captain and Christian Traech who broke his leg yesterday in training
Mannschaft till they meet Fernando Torres again in the Q/finals.

Seriously, no one is expecting Nigeria to win the World Cup but at least let them play football in the right way.
The teams of USA 94 and France 98 did not win any the big prize but they played footie the right way.
Everything about the squad was tip top. . . . .I watch Naija matches these days and it makes me wanna weep.

Maybe it's because one has now been spoilt with quality football and any substandard type of play looks shittier than it is. . . .
Christ, watching Nigeria play makes me wanna puke. No rhythm, no plot, no nous.
Lagerback should take the team that went to the last Olympics to South Africa. They will play better than Yakubu n co.

What success has ronaldo's contribution produce for madrid?, that's the crux of the debate.

Robben inspired his team to bundelsiga title and UCL final and Sneijder did one better by winning the treble. what more do you want from a player.

make no mistake about my position, ronaldo is better than these 2 players, ability and performance wise, however, I'm merely attacking

your undervaluation of them. they have been nothing short of outstanding this season and I don't think there have ever been doubts about their ability.
Ronaldo copped injury for a long spell so that hindered his performance a bit.

Besides, your analysis na hindsight analysis.
As at when Real Madrid wanted to dispose Sneijder/Robben, they were worthless.
Real Madrid were obsessed with Cristiano. They woulda offered human sacrifices to Fergie if he demanded it.
If Fergie had demanded for Sneijder/Robben and 80 milla, Fiorentino Perez would agree 100%.

1) OK, i respect your stand on JM. Dayo and Easternbay are Man enough, they are not "alagidi" omo ekiti buruku grin
So it takes more than having 9 distinctions in WAEC to make somebody brilliant! OK
We all have different standards in assessing football managers.
Apparently, mine seems to be higher than theirs. It takes more than winning trophies on short-terms to become a genius.

2) What makes SAF genuis? You need to tell us.
SAF's records speak for itself. . . . .I don't even need to start wasting bandwidth.
Even Jose himself will tell you he's a trainee under SAF and reh reh reh.
I can pull out Jose's eulogies on SAF in the last 12 months - He has utmost respect for SAF.

3) So, because JM lost to United in last years cup make him drop form abi? You are smoking igbo. What kind of performance does your SAF displayed in the final of champions league last year? Probably the most on-sided game ever tongue
Jose was abysmal in last season's Champions League.
One of the reasons Dayokanu created this thread in the first place. . . .Now he's has won it and i admitted he's getting there but i still won't put him in Ferguson's echelon. Mourinho needs to improve other areas of becoming a complete football manager.

Those victories were sorta kinda. . . . Especially the wins against Arsenal and Citeh.
The United side of old steam-rolled teams. Why is it that each time we have beaten Arsenal convincingly, Giggsy didn't start.
Both of the 3-1 massacres @ the Emirates this season and last season had Giggsy absent in the starting XI.

Comparing Robben to Ronaldo is like comparing Ricardo Fuller to Didier Drogba.
There's a universe of difference between the two.

Ronaldo is 100000 times better than Robben can ever be.
When Robben was developing, his coaches failed to instruct him to use his right foot.

how many times did you predic losses for the team cos Scholes/Giggs started a match?
I predicted it against Chelsea(we LOST emphatically @ OT).
I predicted it against Arsenal(Emirates) and we were unbalanced until SAF pushed Scholesy forward to help the attack.

can you remember how many times you ate your words
Ate ma words ke?
It seems you don't realise United coulda beaten most of their opponents more comfortably without Giggsy in the team.
A very good example was the Manchester Derby @ Citeh. If we had started Obertan instead of Giggs, United wouldn't have needed a last minute effort to beat a very mediocre City side. We were toothless in the first place because Giggsy started and wasted many chances.

if consistency of argumemts is what will keep us on NL, you deserve a life ban tongue tongue tongue

Ronaldo is worth at least £100 million. . . .

He shoulda demanded Robben + Sneijder + £80 million for Ronaldo.

33 goals in 35 appearances for Real Madrid should be applauded.

jalether:
Yes, we both share the same sentiment. I have a feeling Nani will be unstoppable next season, my only doubt of him is consistency issue
if he maintains the form he showed in the latter part of the season, then other teams better watch out
He has to be positioned permanently on the right flank to show any sorta consistency.
Shoving him left and right and having different full-backs playing behind him won't help matters at all.
Like we debated on this thread earlier in the season, Nani's potential is huge. . . it's now left to the manager and himself to bring the best out of him.

Jose is a short-term manager. He killed Chelsea's youth policy cos he never had the intention of staying longer than necessary.
