johnydon22:Guess you either did not notice the website or chose to ignore it because you would have preferred it not being there. Bye for now. |
finofaya:There is but I wont digress this thread on that. Accordingly, there is a story in it where the Sun is alleged to have ceased all motion and thus provided up to 24 continuous hours of sunlight at a single location, the sun being assumed to revolve around the earth.First, neither the passage nor the website links the movement of the sun to day and night. Secondly, I believe the implication of the passage you quoted implies that there was a halt in the entire solar system (if we would be logical): since both the sun and moon stood still. Hence I am sure the earth too was involved since it's part of the solar system. |
johnydon22:As verified by science. Note that neither the biblical quote nor the website linked this to day and night. |
menesheh:Not really! 2 Chronicles 7:13,14. Vs 13 shows God shutting up heaven (sky) Vs 14 shows God hearing prayer from heaven (described by Jesus as where God's Throne is.) the context helps in understanding which is being referred to. |
plaetton:Not really! 2 Chronicles 7:13,14. Vs 13 shows God shutting up heaven (sky whence comes rain) Vs 14 shows God hearing prayer from heaven (described by Jesus as where God's Throne is.) the context helps in understanding which is the reference. |

menesheh:heavens (sky) is not the same as Heaven. |
Consider Psalm 19:4-6a 4 Yet their voice [in evidence] goes out through all the earth, their sayings to the end of the world. Of the heavens has God made a tent for the sun, 5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; and it rejoices as a strong man to run his course. 6 Its going forth is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the ends of it; For a long time this has been one of the points held by those who are critics of the Inspiration of the Bible. Now only GOD could have said this at such a time when science was at teething stage. It has now been discovered that contrary to science's previous claim (for which they even gave us evidences!), the sun is not stationary. Does the Sun Move? What an interesting question. We mainly talk about everything in the solar system orbiting the Sun and celestial objects outside the solar system being in relation to the Sun. The answer to the question is : Yes. The Sun and the entire solar system orbits around the center of the Milky Way galaxy. The average velocity of the solar system is 828,000 km/hr. At that rate it will take about 230 million years to make one complete orbit around the galaxy. www.universetoday.com This implies that it will be illogical to base your belief on science as Samuel Morse, Newton, Faraday, Linnaeus, Boyle etc realised early. |
5 Also when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward [d]in full already. The highlighted is where the real condemnation lies. Jesus Himself prayed both in secret and in public. |
aaronson:How did you arrive at the highlighted? |
PastorOluT:Op I appreciate your quoting Colossians 2:20-23. But also note Colossians 3:1-9,25 1 If then you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. 3 For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, Who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in [the splendor of His] glory. 5 So kill (deaden, [a]deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God). 6 It is on account of these [very sins] that the [holy] anger of God is ever coming upon the sons of disobedience (those who are obstinately opposed to the divine will), 7 Among whom you also once walked, when you were living in and addicted to [such practices]. 8 But now put away and rid yourselves [completely] of all these things: anger, rage, bad feeling toward others, curses and slander, and foulmouthed abuse and shameful utterances from your lips! 25 For he who deals wrongfully will [reap the fruit of his folly and] be punished for his wrongdoing. And [with God] there is no partiality [no matter what a person’s position may be, whether he is the slave or the master]. I selected these verses, however the entire chapter describes life in Christ through the power of the Spirit. Verse 6 shows that we cannot do such things and think we will be exempted; their presence in our lives places a question mark on our claims of faith. |
Op, Luther, Wycliffe etc tried reforming the Roman Catholic Church, not Christianity nor the Bible. Their major efforts was not to correct the Bible but to re-emphasize truths long suppressed by the papacy, the major tool of the latter being their 'custodizing' and retaining the Bible in another language. This enabled them to teach all sorts of strange doctrines to the masses who had no access to the Bible. |
Appleyard:Do me a favour, help explain the quote below in the light of your explanations; Revelations 5:1-7 And I saw lying on the [a]open hand of Him Who was seated on the throne a scroll (book) written within and on the back, closed and sealed with seven seals; 2 And I saw a strong angel announcing in a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the scroll? And [who is entitled and deserves and is morally fit] to break its seals? 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth [in the realm of the dead, Hades] was able to open the scroll or to take a [single] look at its contents.... 5 Then one of the elders [[b]of the heavenly Sanhedrin] said to me, Stop weeping! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root (Source) of David, has won (has overcome and conquered)! He can open the scroll and break its seven seals... 7 He then went and took the scroll from the right hand of Him Who sat on the throne. My focus is on verse 7. Thanks in anticipation |
Prayer is more than asking God for things or seeking solutions to problems. This perception is what has made and is making many sceptics in a materialistic, grab-all-you-can-get age. Prayer is first fellowship with God. You dont suffer long in the presence of the One you love! Rather time flies! In fact sometimes, some things others cry and fast for get's added to you.(eg Solomon sought for wisdom to govern well and riches, victory etc were added) Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Note that this does not mean a sure satisfaction for our covetousness. One who truly delights in the Lord will find some of the things people run after thinking they will bring satisfaction, unnecessary. And when such things are given or added, they wont replace God. |
" The word here rendered "headlong" - πρηνής prēnēs (Latin "pronus," whence our English word "prone" - means properly "bent forward, head-foremost"; and the idea is, that his position in hanging himself was such that when the cord broke he fell headlong, or fell forward on his face. He first hanged himself, and then fell and was burst asunder "(Culled from Biblehub)"When a hanging body decomposes, this will be the grisly result"(Evidence Bible)The passage in Acts said he fell meaning he was at an elevated point from whence the falling took place. Well Judas regretted his actions afterward and it was obvious that he was still in possession of the money though arrangement for the purchase of the field was in top gear and was not without the knowledge of the religious leaders/sanhedrin who were the judges of their time considering the fact that the issue of land as an inheritance and the transfer of such was a great issue among the Israelites/the law. Indeed, this is buttressed by the fact that he hanged himself on the same land. See Ruth 4:3-11a 3 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s: 4 and I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it,5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance. 6 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; 9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi. 11 And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. Note the highlighted texts. Also note that money was not paid immediately by the buyer;just a declaration of interest and willingness was admissible then; payment was done later in some cases. He really did not repent; he rather regretted his actions and committed suicide. Remorse is not synonymous with repentance. |
Excellent piece! Jesus gave the sermon on the mount (part of which was an expatiation on the moral law) and concluded by saying, why call ye me Lord, Lord and do not the things which I say. The position held by some today will demand that Ananias and Sapphira be given an unreserved apology! 2 Timothy 3:5 For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them]. Titus 1:16 16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him,... |
johnw74:Alright. I had to leave the thread concerned. Thanks for patiently seeking clarification. |
johnw74:Definitely! I believe in the Father , Son and Holy Spirit. My reply was based on the statement in Colossians that it pleased the Father, that in Him (Christ) should all fulness dwell. |
Abuamam:Wow! How did you know this?! The event of temptation occurred around the first century! Ming, Shogunate etc were between 14-17th century. |
John 16:26,27 26 At that time you will ask (pray) in My Name; and I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf [for it will be unnecessary]. 27 For the Father Himself [tenderly] loves you because you have loved Me and have believed that I came out from the Father. I ask the Father in the Name of Jesus Christ |
Abuamam:The derailment had a starting point. Meanwhile I wonder why you'll refer to Ming, Shogunate... 14-17th Century CE/AD occurrences at this point! |
Empiree:I believe a reference to the root word in the language concerned is not a private interpretation. And the fact that the discussion in Acts 1:18 and the setting described by the speaker, occurred after the event referenced in Matthew goes further to buttress my point. |
Empiree:The complement is greatly appreciated! . At least, your real intention is known. However, for the sake of those who are not here to scoff, " The word here rendered "headlong" - πρηνής prēnēs (Latin "pronus," whence our English word "prone" - means properly "bent forward, head-foremost"; and the idea is, that his position in hanging himself was such that when the cord broke he fell headlong, or fell forward on his face. He first hanged himself, and then fell and was burst asunder "(Culled from Biblehub)For a translation that took place in 1611, the failure to transliterate is pardonable. And considering the fact that the one in question would have been on the tree for a while (Friday - Sunday), the posture and increased weight due to bloating will lead to an occurrence described by the Inspired writers. |
Empiree:Yes, no contradiction there; one has to be on an elevated point before falling can occur. |
Rilwayne001:There are better ways of criticism. |
BossTtdiamonds:You are right; most replies are actually with the neutral in mind. |
vedaxcool:2 Peter 1:14 14 knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. 1. The highlighted definitely means Peter already had the vision from Christ that his death was imminent. Matthew was in order in the manner he wrote (show). |
malvisguy212:Glory to God! |
It is clearly stated in scripture that all the temptations took place while Jesus was in the Wilderness. Hence, the reference to both the Temple and Mountain were purely spiritual. Other samples of a similar occurence can be found in Ezekiel 8 and Ezekiel 36 (valley of dry bones). Prolonged fasting sans daily breaking (for those who know) exposes one to the spiritual realm easily where visions are the norm.(the word guides believers in recognising the source of those visions). A biblical study on visions will reveal that most visions suggest a course of action. |
chikachuks1:CHRIST IS ALL! |
Hiploko:The highlighted does not apply to all assemblies like you also noted. In any case,it is not a sin for those who do, neither is it a sin for those who dont. |
malvisguy212:Thank you. GOD bless you too. |
