Bros, with all due respect please perish this thought. The Oba of benin (undisputed representative of the edoid groups) was at the vanguard of the excision of the then midwest from the Western region during the first republic. In other words, these folks have been consistent in their desire to have a separate identity for themselves, therefore comments like this (no matter how well-intentioned) is bound to be exploited by the uncouth elements from that corridor to take shots at our people. They haven't shown any concrete desire to become a part of us, if anything they go to desperate lenghts to repudiate and even denounce our shared histories so why must we continue to suck up to them? For what exactly?
I agree.

And Ogun, Esu, Obatala etc are not venerated in Ijebu cheesy

And because Ijebu use Awo as a suffix with some of their names then they started Ifa cheesy grin
Actually, I am even trying to think of popular prople with Awo in their names right now, And Awolowo is the only Remo man among them. The others are from Ekiti, Osun, Ondo Etc

Ife is also called Oodaye or Oodaye (Creator of the world)... Hope you know that?
Maybe that links Ife to Wadai as well... hmn! thinking hard. grin

Dont you get it, Osugbo and Ogboni are just variants of the same thing.
It is like saying:

Mo Feran re - I love You
Mo N'ife re - I love you.

The FE there is what connotes the desire/Love.
Both statements look slightly different, but are the same and same.

You know nothing of ijebus to assume that we speak yoruba. That is a big fat lie.

Waddai was actually part of sudan if you read the history of sudan, i verified even before i believed that.

What i dont get is the obsession you ooduas have that make you want to arrogate other group of people to yourselves? The same low self esteem that made your ooni sell out abiola for how much?

So much envy and malice against their own men.

I leave you to your self entitlments. The truth never stays hidden.
Okay, Ijebu speak Fon mixed with a little bit of Xhosa and Italian.... Hahahahaha
There is nothing like Sudan, All of Black Africa was known as "Bilad -as-sudan" to the Arabs... "Land of the Blacks"... Even Mali here in West Africa was once known as "French "Sudan" - The present sudan was the British "Sudan- and the name stuck with their newly independent country.

Are your origins from Ife or the imaginary SUDAN? that is the point of the question
And I am not antagonizing you, i am only trying to set the records straight.

i believe their own form of ogboni is oshugbo. Not sure about the spellings.

But since you have sunk to diatribes, i leave you to believe what you want to believe.
WHO told you that Only Ijebus add "AWO" to their names, either as suffix or prefix?

Osugbo is simply Ogboni, don't get things twisted.
The Meaning of both is "Cult of the Old/Mature", the Gbo in osuGBO and OGBOni is what means "Old" in Yoruba

Your cradle not our ancestry.

I don't know about saudi arabia tho,but of sudan in which facts have been proven to eatablish the veracity of that claim. The circumscion of males only, the tribal marks, the trumpet used at the coronation an oral account that was also paaa down to me even by my father and those before me. These were men who couldnt read a map but knew a place called Waddai and Sudan.

Do you know the present place called Waddai is now in Chad territory but once was part of Sudan in time past.
circumcision, tribal marks? Oh pls.
That trumpet you guyz use is as a result of islamic influence from further north and nothing else.
Even that Ojude Oba festival, is very much an adaptation of a northern durbar.
Wadai is in Chad and was never for once any part of Sudan, which further uselesses the sudan claim.

Ijebu are from Sudan, but they are speaking Yoruba like hot mai-mai. cheesy

I believe the Awujale speaks for every Ijebu person, and has stated that we do not share the same ancestry with Oduduwa hence, we are Yoruba not of Oodua. However, that does not break any hegemony but ensuring mutual respect by not insulting peoples history.

If you must know, I don't even speak the Ijebu dialect but Yoruba. Does that make me less Yoruba and more Ijebu.
So, it is easier for you to believe that your ancestors came from Sudan and Saudi Arabia instead.
Oduduwa or not, Obanta is from Ife, our cradle.

One needs to be careful on this site, there are lots of impostors here claiming to be what their not just to start e-tribal wars. Hence i do not bliv that guy is edo. The fact simply remains that d Yorubas and Edos are historical linked and some online rascals won't change that fact.

I am a product of that conquest in Eastern Yorubaland. I still have a first class Oba in Eastern Yorubaland as a relative. You're simply Yoruba who's only interested in Yoruba supremacy. I'm more and therefore desire the truth. I have written extensively on it over the years here on Nairaland. With Yoruba people coming here sporadically, arguing without proof, spitting bile and disappearing again. But I have been consistent.

There are even European records of Benin wars in Eastern Yorubaland. With details of Benin war tactics. One European account even chided Ashanti warriors as slackers in comparison to Benin warriors. It was not new for them to observe Africans at war. They even supplied guns Benin used in wars. You would not know because you are scholarly & objective enough to go read.
I know it is hard for you to accept that a tribe that is today small in comparison could have done so much. Rome was a small city but conquered Italy and later most of the known world. If not for benefit of written language at the time, all could have been denied.

But in museums in London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and other places have ceremonial plaques depicting Obas of Benin & war chiefs returning from conquest ceremoniously. All clearly written beneath those plaques, similar to how European witnesses described the scenes centuries ago. I have physically seen them all.

Benin was not primarily fighting wars for the sake of it. If a strategic kingdom or chiefdom accepted to be a vassal to the Oba of Benin, a peaceful treaty was reached. No need for war.

Now to Lagos. What was the population of the Aworis, Egbas & Ijebus around Lagos at that time? How organised were they to seriously Benin military might as described by the Europeans at the time? Whatever it was, aside initial skirmishes, they soon accepted the royal party from Benin. Would anyone not initially resist strangers taking up strategic location next to you? I wonder what you point is. I am well familiar with early history of Asipa & Ado in Lagos.

How united were Yoruba "tribes" then to come to the aid of the scanty settlements around Lagos in 1550s? Yorubas were not a homogeneous group then as portrayed now. In fact incessant intra-Yoruba wars were normal. The later unity against the Jihadist was self-preservation fight. All down to Owo knew that once Oyo Empire was Over-run, no stopping Jahadist.

Benin on the other hand fought years of War in Edo North to stop Jihadists from Idah axis.

You are trying to make up things to be outraged about. Continue with that.
Okay , Clap for yourself.
You should be indeed proud for going to war in the past and pillaging neighboring groups.
Edos want their names to be heard everywhere... for people to say Benin this, Benin that, But once any mention is made to influences in Benin that comes from the other direction, they go all berserk.

My brother just leave them. They form "respectful" in your face. But just like behind people's back they are very disrespectful & vulgar. Just look at their attitude & words when they can hide their faces behind an online forum. They are first rate tribalists and bigots.

A son of a late Oba of Lagos was my classmate in those days. He knew his history. In fact he told me what I did not even know about their descent from Benin.

Leave them.
Oh pls, Yorubas don't owe you anything.
You want Yorubas to love and respect you, but do YOU accord them any respect?

Ado, son of Ashipa.

Nice one.

Mavor:
I though the Oba of Benin at that time was the one who created Eko (then as a War Camp). Isn't he the first Lord by default?
Oba of Benin didn't create Eko, Although Ashipa received the royal sanction from him to do so., and that is why all Yoruboid and Edoid groups will be in Oduduwa republic together.
Our destinies are tied.

Nobody is angry, infact Iloehika is brave and courageous to stand his ground. Instead we see the Deji here himself getting unnecessarily angry over an 'Eze Ndigbo' title.
Does Eze not mean King?
Eze Ndigbo would then invariably mean "King of Igbos".

Should Igbos resident in an erstwhile evidently Yoruba territory like Akure be having a King, when there is another king? All people in Akure are in his traditional domain.
Why can't the so called Eze accept the "Onye Ndu" title?
An "Eze" connotes a traditional stool, imo.

Totally meaningless. The Western Niger Delta has always had more to do with the Yoruboids and Edoids, while the Eastern Niger Delta has always had more to do with the Igbos.

What gutter mouth did he run?
The guy spoke the truth! But the truth hurts!
Present day Nigerian so called ''hip hop, afro pop,'' sounds are not ONLY influenced by Ghana's azonto and Alqaeeda beats.
In fact they are copy cats of the Ghanaian beats! Go listen to beats pioneered by Sarkodie, Guru, Joey B, Shatta Wale etc and you would know!

Have you wondered why no single Nigerian musician or producer has guts to challenge or contradict what Mr Eazi said? It is only ignorant fans that are making noises. No Nigerian producer or musician will say a word against Mr Eazi because virtually all of them are either traveling to Ghana or sampling the works of Ghanaian musicians or producers in their studios.

The truth stands!
Jamaica gave reggae to the whole world even though the country is less than 10million in popluation! If you play reggae beats today, even if your population is 1billion, you are being influenced by Jamaican creativity!
Same for Ghanaian Azonto, Alqaeeda tunes. Same for highlife and Afrobeat (if you don't know, Fela travelled to Ghana, joined a band called Hedzolleh for 2 years to learn Afrobeat)
lol Is that why you are writing me a novel?
You must be a Ghanaian.. undecided
