I started out at 5pm and I was not done until 11pm. Bulk cooking takes a lot of time, however, there is satisfaction gained from knowing food is readily available. I am not much of a junk/ restaurant eater.

The combination of corn, spinach, beans and plantain is unbelievable, and yes, I used red oil.

Thanks
Right now I so wish I can make that beans combo. But my stomach won't tolerate it. I am sad sad

Someone said if you weren't in Minna yesterday for IBB's daughter's wedding, you are just a tenant in Nigeria.
The landlords gathered to wine and dine.
Someone complained about the number of private jets flown into the city yesterday as the Abuja-Minna road isn't motorable. Another one argued it doesn't matter. It was a class thing and it is rare seeing a JSS1 boy play ludo with someone writing UTME.
Someone also wondered why suicide bombers ignored these enemies of Nigeria and decided to attack University of Maiduguri, a citadel of learning where dreams are being built and nurtured.
Someone somewhere close to the wedding venue said he strained his eyes looking for the leaking PDP umbrella and the tiny APC broom yesterday and had to go home disappointed when he saw all of them hugging and smiling without talking about their parties.
Someone faraway in Abeokuta decided to analyze their sitting positions and nearly ended up in the hospital. His blood pressure rose.
Another one, a popular PDP apologist in Enugu, broke down in tears yesterday. He saw 'Bola Tinubu, the man behind his hero's political and electoral fate who still lambasted him days ago in Lagos, seated beside Goodluck Jonathan smiling sheepishly to the cameras.
Someone, an unrepentant APC loyalist, saw Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Markafi stand together. He had always prayed for the total collapse of PDP. He couldn't eat yesternight anyway.
Someone watched Channels Television news and saw Governor Ganduje and his sworn enemy Kwankwaso seated inches apart. He is still praying to God to wake him from his nightmare.
Another one made sure he followed the news on radio waiting for any divisive religious matter to be raised only to hear voices of Bukola Saraki, a muslim, and Yakubu Dogara, a christian, screaming for those expensive wines. He is still changing stations with hopes.
Someone checked online media outlets yesternight and saw pictures of Yorubas, Hausas, Fulanis, Igbos all under one roof with their different tribal wears. There
I HOPE U ARE HAVING A LOVELY WEEKEND.
Wow!! Bravo! This is the best comment I have ever read on Nairaland. Thumbs up!

I didnt say there are no jobs over here. Just letting you know the jobs are also not easy to come by. Even the so called survival jobs would still not be handed to you on a platter of gold e.g cleaning or hotel bed laying jobs. Employers would ask you for years of experience in cleaning/operation of buffing machine or bed laying.

I stayed cos i was determined. Alot of Nigerians arrived Canada/UK around the same time i arrived, and returned home cos they couldnt bear the hardship/difficulty...
You are suprised..yes, lots of nigerians and other foreign nationals return to their home countries every year when they realised abroad is not eldorado and they were better off at home......

I Suffered for some years and eventually broke even. I am glad that i slugged it out...I stayed back cos of my kids...atleast my children would have excellent education, good healthcare, good stndard of living e.t.c they would not have had access to in Nigeria. They would also find it much easier than i did when i moved here.

I like you, you're real.

Bia, bjhaid, since I have lived abroad my eyes have seen only one man in a car with a Driver. I repeat only one!

Phone/Internet Market / Re: Aliexpress Shopping Guide(updated!!!) by Schwartz: 4:28am On Apr 19, 2017

With the recent increase in trust in some Chinese brands, especially
Hints:

4. Having known the price from your chosen seller, proceed to payment. Due to $100/card monthly limit on Nigeria issued cards for now. You'll need cards depending on your order value. Let me add here that only Gtbank master and access bank Visa cards work effectively at 320 and 325/$ respectively. I learnt uba also works for the first few minutes of the day.
On ur AliExpress Mobile app, click on the dashboard. Click "my account"> "my AliExpress pocket"> click the badge above the "available balance".
Select lower $ denominations and click buy to pay with your card. Remember $100/card/month. Turn on alipocket at the check out page to have your alipocket balance deducted from your total order value
If your order is below $100, you can click on "buy now" to pay directly with your card BUT I won't advise you to do this because your order might be cancelled and refund will be cumbersome. ALWAYS PAY FROM ALIEXPRESS POCKET.
5. This write up will be incomplete without discussing APPEAL. for security of transactions, you may be asked to upload some documents to show you acquire the cards you want to pay with legally. This is what is called appeal. So, for every card you plan to use, get the appeal documents ready. They're picture of the front view of that card (only the first 6 and last 4 digits are needed to be revealed. Block the rest) and the account statement of the account linked to that card. You can use a screenshot of an e-alert. The above will be in addition to the pix of a govt issued ID card of the AliExpress account owner. Appeal typically takes 1-3 business days if done well.

It's high time we stopped paying huge for some branded craps. Look beyond!
Peace.

I am shocked reading this. You mean that this is the stress Nigerians go through to shop on Aliexpress. Wow!
In Germany here you just download the APP, choose what you want, click buy, enter your credit number. We have no limits on how much should be on the card or at any point. Why is Nigeria restricting online shoppers to only 100$ shocked also nothing like Appeal here o. Uploading proof of ownership of card? Wow shocked quite sad.
Just enter your credit card, address and within 3 weeks it come to you. If you're not around the delivery people give it to your neighbour and leave a note on your mail box. The best part is once you open a dispute even if its just a little error they refund you immediately. I honestly prefer them to Amazon.
I have sent screen shots to my friends. No 5 is particularly shocking I must say

From clocking-in, you'll graduate to a salaried position.
Even if you work a minimum wage job (full time) you will still be able to eat 4 square meals, eat at a buffet, and get a decent used car.
But, when it comes to housing, you may only be able to rent a room.

let our brothers in the US reply. I don't know the names of taxes they take but Uncle SAM will sure take his money grin
Your rent will depend on where you live. My friend in east Germany pays 250€ for same apartment. However most people won't want to live in those parts. Then any credit taken will also be deducted, phone bills and many more will be deducted. What comes back to you after all deductions is the main thing. Your savings is the koko. This is something that is way easier to do in Naija- to SAVE

Haha grin when I was in Nigeria I used to calculate it like you. Sorry bro it doesn't work that way o. Here you are heavily taxed from your income that is what they use in developing all the social amenities around.
Let's say I earn 43,000€ per annum that 3,500€ per month in naira @ 450 exchange rate its 1,575,000 million naira per month (chei this people are killing us here) however, after uncle SAM or Aunty Merkel in my case is through with me(deductions from tax, social insurance, health insurance, job loss Insurance, church tax, TV tax, etc) I am finally left with only about 1900-2000€). Mind you government must take their money first before it gets to you. When you see what comes back to you, you wont find it funny o. Like my last salary, I looked at my Gross, smiled then came down to the bottom of the paper and wailed cry
Then I pay rent in a small apartment for 1,100€ monthly! That's about 495,000 naira per month! what is left is transport(expensive!), feeding(thank God its cheap), send money home etc To get major things done like to buy a good car, house you need credit. Cost of living abroad is very expensive. So never use your Nigerian judgement to evaluate our pay here. Its a totally different ball game here. That's how advanced countries operate. Even if you aim to earn higher its higher taxes too so at the end of the day everyone is around the same bracket. You won't be poor, you will be comfortable but defibately not rich in Naija definition. Throwing money all around, and employing cook, driver, house maid etc nobody can afford that except the very very wealthy.
And when you work here, you work HARD, no lazying around or gisting, work time is work time.

Celebrities / Re: Stella Monye Needs Help With Son’s Surgery. Cries Out To Nigerians by Schwartz: 6:41am On Apr 16, 2017
I have been to klinikum Recht der Issar
It's a university teaching hospital. They have good specialists and latest up to date medical equipment. Yea, not surprised they billed her over 30,000 dollars. Healthcare in Germany is very expensive. That's why it is a must for everyone to take up health insurance because it is unaffordable.
However I must say that this case has lingered for long. And form what I have observed no doctor / hospital is perfect not even the ones abroad. I used to think doctors abroad perform wonders. But I discovered that they and their outcomes are not perfect. There is no surgery that will give you 100% relief. Further follow up care, therapies are still needed. In this case you can't have a one time surgery and expect to be perfectly okay. You need to keep going to the doctor for consistent care and learn to live with the limitations that the treatments will also bring.
I have an advice to Stella Monye but I cant say it online. But with it she can bring her son here and get treatment almost for free. The key is continous access to the hospital even after surgery. Plane tickets and visa alone
May be all she needs. Leme not say more..

Will this not amount to Bigamy?

AFAIK..this is nt possible and ur claim seems like a fairy tale.

NB: Marriage is diff from "baby mama and baby dada".

You want to tell me that you don't know that there are women back home married to abroad based husbands whose husbands have told them that they need to get married for papers? Situation they find themselves put them in that way. Its either that or deportation. The Naija wife underststands and is party to the arrangements. The women know very well. Some wait till the divorce is final before their husbands can file for them to come over. Others can't, so the only way is to join their husbands through separate visas. This for example if the man wants to make a family with his wife. The husband won't file for them as spouse. They come with visit visa and other means, live separately and wait till the man can set himself free then the husband now files for citizenship for the Naija wife. Its happening that I am 100℅ sure. And my own, aunty and her husband did it!!! Now they are both citizens and the white woman is off.
In the Germany that you live have you not been seeing the bizzare things people do to get papers especially the aduros?? Common!!

Big lie, if they cant live with their husbands who is taking care of them. Whose house are they living in, you just want to put salt and pepper into this threadshocked

Of course they live separately without the oyinbo wife knowing. Abroad, nobody 'takes care' of you. Everybody works to pay their bills. You both contribute finances. There is no housewife here. Even my former flatmate still married to a German woman went home to marry and I knew when he was making plans to bring in his naija wife. And the strategy for her to stay elsewhere and claim benefits.
What lie? Don't be silly. If you're ignorant of something own up to it and stop passing judgements on what you have absolutely no idea about.
There is a film Liz Benson acted in scenes were shot in Nigeria and abroad. She acted both as the mother of the man and the fiancée. She knew her son was married but they didn't as a family acknowledge the white woman. She then travelled and was living separately from her when she relocated. Its a film but the story is REAL. many people do it
Romance / Re: Ladies, Ask That Abroad Bobo These Before You Marry Him. by Schwartz: 9:20pm On Apr 11, 2017
I know some ladies here who relocated and they can't live with their husband after doing big wedding in Nigeria. This is because the man is still legally married to his wife so this men actually run two homes. The paper wife is legal while the Naija woman is illegally married to them pending when they can divorce. Its a really sorry state. When they get here they find out that it's not as fast and as easy as they expected the man to leave his wife and to be with them. One babe I personally know gave up everything, her job, her life back just to be with this man. After the elaborate wedding they had in Naija. Years gone by the dude won't divorce his oyinbo wife. The few times she has secret access to the man she posts it on Facebook and her friends are envying her not knowing that she is lonely and cold here. Many such girls abound abroad.

I would suggest that you remain on the first thread you started. Why open another,I am watching as events unfold and I hope to chip in too. You need a detailed medical bill estimate. If you can't reach doctor David, the doctors especially the consultants at the current hospital you use can help with a referall too. You can google too, read reviews online, contact the hospital of your choice in India, scan and send your documents and they will give you a cost estimate and other guidelines as well.
Apollo hospital Bangalore is tested and trusted however feel free to make your choice.

Don't aim for riches, desire to be contented with who you are and what you have.

Run your own race, your life is personal.

Love you, don't allow anyone to make you hate yourself.

Never compare anything you have in your life to others. Those who make it a habit to show off all they have; I have discovered time and time again that I was jealous for nothing.

Never look down on anyone. You can't predict their tomorrow. They may turn out better than you at the end.

Lastly, if you find pure, true love you will truly be contended and happy most times. Something a fat bank account can never measure to.

Got married in 2011.No children.
Doctors have diagonised medical issues with me.Wifey h
Have done procedures except IVF until a couple of years back.Spent money.
We decided to use money to do other things and just trust God to come through.
I'm not a saint.I.try for God.Bless people and do service.
Prayers have revealed we would have kids.We have both had dreams about having our kids.
Today I'm just down. Depressed. Wish I had enough dough so i can risk doing enough IVF to give us our children but worried about squandering my lil savings and not get desired results.
I need help.Pastors have ripped us off. Most of them wanted or wants something in return.
Just pray God can just do it and now too.
es cos of my sins,I am still hopeful.
I feel your pain. My suggestion is fight for what you want. Don't give up. Try another IVF in a place with greater and verifiable claims to higher success rates. Don't just go to a 'cheap' one. If you can afford it travel abroad. Google IVF centers with most successful rates. Heard of a center in Spain with really high success. If that fails, try surrogacy. The "corrections"(surgery I believe) that you both did may not have been successful. The path to success could mean you both need to go through further tests in a well equipped hospital to find out why the first IVF failed. Before you try another. Its important. Get an expert opinion of your chances through IVF. If possible get a second and even a third. If the opinions you gather show that your chances maybe slim then don't waste money, go for surrogacy. Let the one among you lacking more reproductively be replaced by a surrogate. Doctors would know best according to your situation. Option 3, Adopt a child both of you can love, care for and devote yourselves to, if not for anything to shift your depression away and have a little angel to look up to while you still wait. Years later it could still happen naturally, you know. Don't give up. And count the blessings God has blessed you with. Don't dwell too much on what you don't have for now.

Travel / Re: I'm Taking A Road Trip Across Europe - Germany, Switzerland And Italy by Schwartz: 4:25am On Apr 01, 2017
olujastro:
Wanderlustian, great thread I must say!

I love adventures as well and I'm planning a Euro trip this summer. I haven't done this before. I first got inspired to do this several years ago during my bachelors programme in Nigeria after watching the movie "Euro Trip". Now with your audacious step, I long for this more.
Could have taken a vacation for it while working in Nigeria but I was getting tired of things there and decided to put my money together for a masters degree in Europe, and from there embark on my adventurous trip.

I'm looking at spending at least 1 day in say 7 countries but not more than 10 days for the entire trip. From the little mapping I did this morning I managed to come up with a tentative route. From Norway where I reside, fly to Amsterdam(Netherlands), train to Brussels(Belgium), to Paris(France), to Stuttgart(Germany), to Zurich(Switzerland), to Milan(Italy), and fly from Milan finally back to Norway.

My budget for the entire trip is around 500 Euros. I hope that will be sufficient to cover all expenses?
From your experience, train will be my best option to quickly touch all these places in a short time.

I hope my friend here decides to join me on this cos it looks like you wouldn't have enjoyed your trip without your baby's company.
Chao!
Bros 500€ for the entire trip can't be enough. Use GoEuro app to check transport costs flights and trains to this places with it. Then in addition your internal transportation cost while in this cities. Add your feeding. Feeding while on a holiday is usually more expensive because you will be forced to eat in restaurants all through your vacation. Then factor in hostel or airnb home stay. I didn't mention hotel because with that budget a hotel stay will be definitely out of the question.
Then the best part of vacation which I love the most is the shopping! I can't visit a country without buying something there.

The Germans also pay taxes at very very high rates.....which is used to fund their hospitals well.

If we had our taxes raised to the level the Germans pay....there would be riots on the streets...and people calling the govt wicked.
My brother can I buy you a cold bottle of beer? You got it.
Apart from taxes every soul in Germany who works pays for health insurance. I pay 180€ per month!!! That's equivalent to 72,000 naira per month! Just yesterday my health insurance provider told me that if my salary should increase they will increase the rate. For those who do not need to use the hospital here you must still pay it. That's the norm here. Its so strict that if you don't have health insurance you won't be given resident permit. We get good healthcare abroad because we pay so much for it. Imagine you want to travel to common India for a simple surgery, you will cough out millions for your medical bills. Bottom line is good, quality healthcare is not cheap.
For Nigeria's healthcare to be better people must be ready to either pay more in cash or by insurance and also those at the helm must be accountable for monies in the hospital purse.

It doesn't go that way. The cost living in Nigeria is way cheaper than abroad especially in Germany where I also live. With such salary your tax is almost insignificant. But here you pay high taxes according to your income plus other deductions that the government takes from your salary at the end of the day the rest that comes back to you, health insurance will deduct theirs, rent will take theirs too (monthly o),plus phone bills, TV radio fees, gas for car, car insurance, transportation, and many other bills waiting to swallow your salary. At the end of the day the savings you make cannot be compared to those in Nigeria. Living abroad is like living to pay bills. They never stop coming.
But in Nigeria you can suit your living to your income. And bills are a choice and really few. At worst the bill that will come at the end of the month is NEPA bill. You can choose not to pay it. But here if you miss one bill, just one, you will be charged to court.
