This is a public forum . I will just give a little breakdown.

First month of purchase ,I withdrew between 800-1m after purchase to do upgrade …after buying a car,you gotta change all the tires(40k each with extra making 200k),bad absorbers,tint the car(including changing the seat covers,android players,security,a whole lot),the full light thyroid…Infact ,change almost everything you can think about to make it new. I didn’t change the engine at first,was still managing.

Travel with car to Abeokuta being the first time without experience ,I didn’t check the eng oil,it dries up on the way and engine knocked. Meanwhile before then,it’s overheating on the way. I changed a lot in the way and spent before the engine knocked.

Parked the car two weeks in Abeokuta and later towed it with 100k down to my destination . I withdrew 1m to change engine and run all services .

I have withdrawn severally to service it each month and sometimes ,400k gone at a sport because the road here ain’t good.

Every week petrol consumption is full tank minimum which was around 15k before subsidy removal.

Car registration,license and documentation took over 200k alone.

If you want to drive such car daily,you will budget weekly for maintenance not even monthly again depending on your road. The 🚗 could just develop a fault and stop on the way. You will call your mechanic and rewire ,then estimate and check ….behold,you may spend almost 100k at the spot.

At a time ,you will think it’s spiritual but when you ask from others using same car,they may even narrate worst scenarios to you.

For me,paying rent is more economical than building a house and before u come too hard,I am an estate surveyor by both vocation and practice.

Owing a house isn't the ultimate,if i invest 50million in a house for instance,I can make 5million from renting 5 or 6 units of two bedroom but if invest same in one year into my business,I am sure to make a total of 28million from it. That is why when put together,I have hesitated to proceed in owing my house.

I built mine at a very young age, tbh, I some how some how regret it , if I had pumped the money into the business I am right now, trust me I’ll have made x1000( I’m not exaggerating atall). But I’m still kinda happy that I didn’t waste the money on frivolities . Atleast the house is there forever and I can put it for rent if I wish too in the future.

To me, regardless of the city you work or live, if you’re paying house rent of 500k/1m , there’s nothing bad if you have your own land even if you’re yet to develop it.


Every city has developing area in Nigeria , even Lagos( ikd,bdg) you’ll still see a piece of land for 1m, it’s not a must for you to live at the city center especially if your kind of job doesn’t REALLY demand it. Infact in Ibadan, you’ll still see a plot of land in a developing but viable location for 700k.

One guy just bought a plot of land with his 800k savings , total package three days ago, he wanted to rent new apartee with the money, I told him not to, I said ‘ if you can’t run business with the money , then buy a land ‘

If you can come up with 500k house rent, you should be able to afford 1m land, even if na to pay twice.. na wetin person no search for him no go see !.


I have a friend who just renewed his house rent at ajah , almost 2m naira and this chap doesn’t own a plot of land. He’s been living there for 3 years, in his word ‘ he wants to buy house in lekki’. He’ll be running helter skelter any time rent is due .
Question is what if it doesn’t work out at the end? What will you fall back to.

Nigeria is hard, but person must be extremely wise and frugal with the little you earn in other to survive.

Till date I don't still understand why person go leave him village/ lhouse go dey hustle for another Man village, then use the money just to pay house rent bill, buy food. Pay NEPA bill,pay high transport, Maybe hire experience olosho, at the end he might die without achieving anything part from paying those bills. Whereas in his village, there is free accommodation, cheap food, fresh food, farmland to plant of the things, cheap NEPA bill, cheap transportation and cheap girls .
