Handsomegod:
Your mention of insufficient media coverage and a propaganda unit is true.I totally admit that lacuna exists. But that is slowly changing. The last 5 years alone witnessed a surge in pro-Igbo consciousness and renaissance more than ever before. The IPOB agitation and the eventual fall out heightened it.More so when one considers how the rogue regime of the day handled the matter and the stark double standards of it all. Today, more Igbo youths are neck deep in Igbo matters and discussions than ever before. IPOB agitations take place in all major capitals of the world weekly. Their anniversaries draw thousands.Instead of waning,it keeps getting louder and popular. Ignoring or downplaying these things is dangerous. They are seeds that have since germinated and taken root.We should leverage on it to extract any advantage we set our minds to internationally and locally. The Nigerian authorities and the western axis who own this contraption knows this fact.By every stretch,Igbos have literaly taken over the media to either tell their individual and collective stories or debunk existing negative profiling and narratives.Long has it been when the blanket narratives of the nay sayers and the fifth columnists about the Igbo is held to be sacrosanct. We analyse, debunk and put up rebuttals by the minutes and in torrents.
Some of the most enlightened online Political economists and policy opinion molders in this generation are Igbos. What gave rise to this? Given a long history of sectarian violence targeted at them especially in the northern and western Nigeria, Igbos by far are the most endangered and discussed group in Nigeria. This existential threat placed their survival and future on the scale. These Igbo-centered discussions here and millions more in other online and offline fora are subconscious fall out to these realities and group survival instinct. Do you have an equivalent of other groups in Nigeria on Nairaland?? None! Even the Ibadan Pol Economy thread died after 3 months.
The quest for independence will always face stiff opposition but does that stop aggrieved nations from seeking and actually getting independence? No way! Austria-Hungary used to be a monarchy of confederates which include the aforementioned countries and parts of Czech Republic,Poland,Italy,Romania and the Balkans. They all collapsed after the 1st World War given to internal contradictions. The type we witness in Nigeria today. Czech Republic split to Czech and Slovakia. Heaven didn't fall. East Pakistan became Bangladesh. They were and remain far poorer than Nigeria but they got their independence nonetheless. Kosovo declared and retained independence from Serbia. The UN administers it.Eritrea and South Sudan broke away from Ethiopia and Sudan respectively. Igbos proved they can be on their own 47 years ago and will yet prove it again so the question of prospective economic destitution being a reason to deny that does not hold water. When Singapore broke up with Malaysia, they were a backwater, squalid, poor and forgotten nation. They took it upon themselves and created a paradise in the Orient. Igboland's current handicaps cannot and will never be a measure of their future prospects as an independent nation.Contrary to your assertion,Igbos have carved a niche for themselves individually and collectively.Despite our current handicaps,we are no local champions sir. War time Biafra (before the blockade) was more prosperous, better governed and with far better prospects than peace time Nigeria! Nigerian politics is a cancer and poisoned chalice. It pollutes whatsoever it touches. Review the habit and conduct of some of our leaders pre and post politics and you wonder what took hold of them. Above all,Nigeria is not salvageable anymore. The country died long ago.I maintain,in what ever we are doing, let the discussion of freedom from this contraption keep being topical.
yea u are correct...the igbos are always in the news these days. Our isiagu dress is currently trending, our biafra agitation is trending, there is much greater awarness of everything igbo these days...but bro, all these are at individual level. The leadership of igboland are not involved. And untill we get them involved, we are indeed local champs. Just imagine if all se states change their state flags to have the biafran flag background...as against the nigerian flag background. It is legal...and fg cant do jack against it other than go to court. Do u know that that alone will spur igbo nationalism much more than we are having?

Just imagine if ike ekweremadu's dream fm is a major igbo political tool...or orji kalu's sunnews...and not tools in the hands of govt of the day.

Just imagine if an igbo senator stands up and demands referandum for biafra...or if se federal legislators take a uniform stance on Anioma state.

We can achieve much more if our leaders are with us...sadly they barely are.

lol...lagos is maybe 50% Yoruba and 50% nigeria...so dont gloat...for all the advantages lagos has had as fct for 76 yrs and coupled with the fact that lagos never saw war...plus all seaports and airports in the country were left to rot in favour of only lagos ports....can lagos truly beat its chest and say that it is a better state to live in than enugu state?

Do people in lagos have access to more electricity, water and good roads than people in anambra? Is lagos cleaner than ebonyi state? Even recently, we saw abia state chasing lagos bomper to bomper in list of states that made more foreign cash. We know for a fact that imo state has received as many presidents as lagos in the past 2 years

How does APC fight corruption? By shielding their party members and allies

How does APC fight poverty? By sharing the money

Who cares if you sing about Dangote or not. The facts remain that, the North produced the richest black man in the World. And his source of wealth is legit and known. Unlike your brothers whose sources of wealth are questionable.
that wasnt the initial fact that led to this argument

Keep the Yoruba's out of this discussion. You claimed Dangote's wealth was as a result of Government's bla bla bla, let's assume that's true. At least his source of wealth is known.

Over 95% of rich Easterners, got their wealth either through Kidnapping, Rituals, Baby factory, Armed Robbery, Prostitution, Human trafficking, buying and selling of Babies, drugs, fake stuffs, the list is endless.

For the facts that Nigerian's don't always tell you to your face, doesn't mean we don't know.

Nigerian's are wiser now.
boko haram statistics. Why will i keep the yorubas out of it? Come to west and talk with them...u will see they would rather live with igbo than hausa.

If u doubt me...open a thread here...the topic should be: ''yorubas, if oil is removed from the equation, which btw igbo and hausa will u prefer to form a country with if u must choose one''

I was also wondering why they hate buhari so much, then i sat down with one among the thousands of igbos in my town and enquired for reasons. I asked him why will u not vote pmb? He said buhari spoiled nigeria, that cuz of buhari, people now dont have money to be buying things from his shop like before. I told him he has a point. Then he continued that where are all the recovered looted money? I answered that its been put into infrastructure, social intervention like npower, school feeding etc i told him free money wasnt flowing like before cuz pmb blocked leakages etc his answer shocked me. He said is it buhari's father's money? That its better that looters be allowed to loot so that money will flow like before, that GEJ freed buhari from prison and now buhari is persecuting him and that buhari will go back to prison etc i now realized am debating with a very illiterate person who only cares for money to flow like before and nothing else. I just gaveup knowing he will never understand and is hate filled
mumu...the type of lies u ediots tell ur selves. All igbos who wont vote for buhari in 2019 are illiterate? Wat stupidity is this bro? All for the 'likes' or wat?

nope his wealth is not legit...its govt patronage and muzzling of opposition. And no...nobody gives a damn about dangote in the south...not even yoruba musicians call him in songs.

The south doesnt really like the north. Yorubas dont really like the north..they just keep u as ally to play oil politics. Remove oil and the average yoruba man go throw aboki under the bus gladly

you need to be angry!!! the east is not developed at all, building mansions in villages is not development, after enugu in enugu state, the other towns are dead end, you dont develop by developing one and leaving the rest, when i was still active in enugu state well, like 4 years ago, in awgu local government area there is no single atm, you have to go to enugu to do most things which i found extremely irritating. you might not find beautiful mansions in southwest towns but to compare social infrastructure in place between south west towns and the eastern counterpart is like comparing ezenwa to buffon
nope...the country side is best wen it doesnt have the same hassles with the city proper....wen u were in agwu...did u see goo roads or not? In udi in agbani in nsukka...there are good roads...they dont need to have banks and parks in the villages...if u want that...come to the city. you v spoken my mind. Honestly we Igbos v all it takes to build a better society like the South East Asian countries only if we will converge with a definite mind for such. I believe we v what it takes. It s high time we speak Igbo first in development and friendship across the South East. By doing this others will know we r out to build a vibrant society. Also, we need to domesticate our projects within d locality of South East. Every thing must start from d ummna before going to d entire village. Again we need to bring back the development strides we anchor immediately after d civil war. That pattern build our community schools etc and even helped our ppl to travel out for studies.
I want to say that it is high time we forget exchanging words with other tribes on social media. They retrogress and deviate our focus through that. That s their stock in trade and we need to leave them alone. They r not straight forward and sincere people. If u observe generally u will discover that South East states r far ahead other states. Apart from Lagos which was a former Capital Territory and Abuja, other states lack meaningful development. So we need to look home.
Thank you.
1. i would say that the campaign to shame ppl into building their investments in south east is yielding positive results. Our youths who are making money are now building nice structures in se...unlike wen our fathers made their own money and established outside...only visiting se during xmas..so that campaign should continue.

2. I think we should forget restructuring for now. Devolusion of power we can support. But we should never support resource control. Let us join the rest of the country and milk the atlantic and niger delta dry of all oil resources..two can play the game.

3. We should start a new campaign like the think home campaign....this new campaign will be to tell young igbo enterprenours that buying and selling is not the only business they can do. There is a whole world of sectors out there...why are we opening only shops and importing everything upanda?? Is that how we will become se asia?? We should go into other areas too...let start a thread in nairaland or any other site for young igbo enterprenours....na there we go tell dem say buying and selling no dey reign again.

4..we should position ourselves for 2023 presidency...forget say i dey act like say i no need am. Truth is...an igbo president will play a huge part in the current unfolding igbo rebirth.

5. Lastly...like i will always say...create Anioma state. We need one more state in the south east and we need that sate to be anioma state. We suffered because an anioma man killed sarduana...we should own them for life...cos if the eyes starts crying, the nose will join. With anioma state in the south east, igboland will be 80% complete...remaining only igboland in rivers state...and a few igbo towns with small population in benue and crossriver. Cos igbos should gather their number and strenght for the eventual break away from nigeria

Curlieweed:
When we had the Ipob crises, Ohaneze set up some Igboland Development group.

Who knows what has become of it?
Do they have even a website?

I think a lot of normally intelligent people are taking an alarmingly casual attitude to the unfolding disaster called Nigeria.

The population is due to double again with the next 30 years. Apart from the fact that most our inland oil fields are depleting very quickly, oil is fast losing its global primacy as an energy source. You only need to imagine the effects of this on government revenue.

I don’t even want to talk about the fact that the current regime is borrowing like there is no tomorrow and spending all the money on daft politically motivated projects.

Climate change and associated desertification are having an increasingly calamitous effect on food production as well as an increase in strife not just in the NC but increasingly down south. Frankly, I expect massive population movements southwards. The fact that upwards of 90% of the population in some of these places are involved in agriculture should give any rational observer food for thought.

The day of reckoning is very, very near. I was thinking of these things today and I got very, very scared. You don’t need to be a soothsayer to know who the likely scapegoats will be as things get even more desperate in the country.

We need to build a proper economy in our homeland. We need to look at our peers in places like SE Asia. We should copy, borrow and if necessary steal ideas, technologies and markets from these people.

We need a healthy, educated populace. We need infrastructure. Our very survival as a people is at stake. Mere shaming people to invest backhome isn’t going to work. We need a world class business environment.

The issue is very urgent and cannot wait.
u seem very smart...and most of wat i have always told ppl is wat u said here. Nigeria is not in the best interest of future igbos....and no..i am also not interested in starting a new country with south south minorities that will end up being a mini nigeria...strictly igboland.
As pazienza said....izu ka mma na nne ji.
