It is more generally acceptable for an older man to marry a younger woman than the reverse. Moreover, we all know that the fertility of women declines with advancing age, that alone is a major risk.

vislabraye: Age doesn't really matter as long as the gap isn't too much. IMO.
If a man of 35 marries a woman of 27 or 28 its not bad. Women usually age faster.
If you are a woman here who isn't yet married and a guy 7 or 8 years older walks up to you, would you say no?

Compudoms: An uncle of mine left his wife for a younger woman. His reason was that when people come to ask for the wife, they ask him 'sir we want to see your MOTHER'. The age difference was 5 years and they were married for only 25yrs.
Women age faster than men so i think the age diff should be much, if u don't want people to one day call ur wife ur MOMSEY

I am a single mother, and I really haven't experienced that sort of discrimination. Maybe its because i live in South Africa, not Nigeria.

I have not experienced that discrimination because my role as a mother is a part of me, there is no way you can know me and not know that I am a mother. So i guess the guys with such issues stay away from me from word Go so i never even get to know what they are thinking.

What I have experienced though, is that the discrimination comes more from other women than men. Mothers, sisters and aunties will not allow their sons to marry a woman with a child, if so it comes with great difficulty. That, I have experienced as I lost a man i loved very dearly that way. And i have heard other women, even my close friends, admit that they would not want their baby brothers to marry a woman with a child.

So ladies, lets stop blaming men for once. We are as much to blame for this culture of thinking a single mother is somewhat of lower worth.

SELFWORTH: Absolutely . Single mothers exist for various reasons. One and probably the most common reason is that the ladies choose to believe and a trust a man who now claims they are 'soiled' goods. There are many single fathers out there who don't even know they have an illegitimate child out there and they still see themselves as single which is sad.

If only ladies can let their NO mean NO, then this topic will not even feature on NL.
