Car Talk › Reverse Parking Or Forward 1st Parking... Which Is Better by Sellfish(op): 8:17pm On Jan 28, 2020
So I have had quite a verbal run-in with my Co-workers as to how I park my car

While all of them park their cars forward 1st, I park mine with the front facing the park exit

They all say I don't know how to drive... That that's why I am avoiding having to reverse out of the parking lot.... And I am like... "So choosing to continually risk running a kid over or running into something else while making a totally avoidable reveal out of a parking lot makes you a better driver than me?... Wow...

But aside the fact that I sure know how to drive, I do not like engaging in the whole "I drive better than you" argument because in my opinion, the only good driver is the alive one and then probably the one who manages not to dent his car for a long while..My average speed on a good express way is 140km/hr and so far, I have not even scratched my bumper while driving... So the self acclaimed Vin Diesels and ermm.. intending Paul Walkers are welcome to keep me out of their discussions... grin

Anyway.... Back to the parking issue, I park facing the exit because:

It is easier and safer for me to join traffic frontally..

It's more practical for emergency situations... I stay in Plateau State where religious crises can start at any damn time... So thinking that I can actually just jump in and drive away at once instead of trying to reverse out of or into God knows what suits better..jump into car, put into drive and vamoose appeals more to me than jump into car, engage reverse, engage drive, engage reverse, engage drive, then reverse into traffic before Turning steering full and zooming off... Person wey wan kill you for don get you before you finish all that bavk-front-bavk-front ish grin

My Co-workers always majorly Cite "security" as their reason for parking their cars forward 1st...they say their cars will be harder to steal if parked forward 1st grin... I guess they have never heard of the armed Robber named Oyenusi who drove in reverse from Lagos to Benin grin.... If boys mean to steal your car, dem go steal am even if you park am ontop Nepa pole grin

I don't know if any driving regulations favor one way of parking over the other tho...

Your input in this issue is welcome... But till date I hardly ever park firnt 1st unless there is no other option

Car Talk › Re: Please Is This Car A Good Deal For 240k by Sellfish(op):
So I needed Gazzuzz advice and paid for the car..then I took it to a highly recommended KAzeem who did some fixes. ..engine and transmission are ok ...here are the stuff I fixed and the cost in naira

Two front lower arms changed at the cost of 2500 each

Power steering pump serviced because steering was quite stiff and the power steering rubber hoses were leaking a bit...cost of this was 4k

Vehicle was vibrating on idle and when there is a gear change...some bolts and washers in the engine sitting were discovered to be worn...bolts and washers were bought for 350 Naira and fixed...that solved the problem...

Ball joints and shafts were certified ok...but the shaft hose had disengaged...so I paid 1k for the shaft hose and grease....that fixed that

I thereafter engaged a rewire who fixed all the door and boot light....he bought new door light switches at 500 naira each and worked on the light switch in the car booth. ..I have him extra 1k for his efforts. ..he also replaced 2 electric window switches for 300 naira each...so all the electric window buttons and central lock buttons work perfectly

I also replaced a broken backlight...paid 3k for an unbroken fairly used one

Fuel guage and temp gauge work perfectly. ..Speedometer does not work tho...and I don't have the interest to fix that

I then have a bit of body work done on the car...it is totally first body with some minor dents...I paid 15k for a black paint job on the bumper, fender, lower parts of the door and the mirrors

I did all these little by little over a space of one week...

I had done some city driving with the vehicle and since the vehicle odometer isn't working, I couldn't quite gauge the fuel consumption .

So last week, I had reason to travel to and from Jos to Kafanchan...a combined distance of about 260 kilometres as calculated by Google maps....that's including my destination in the Kafanchan town..fuel tank was empty...as in I drove the car until the car refused to start due to lack of fuel...I then bought 2500 worth of fuel at 143 per liter and set off from Jos.....the fuel took me to and fro and from my calculations in have still done some city driving of about 30 kilometres and fuel is still in reserve. ...it's kinda funny that my friends 2006 Corrola uses about 3k fuel for the same journey of Jos to Kafanchan and back and the fuel gauge will bed reading empty before we even get home. ..so he has to top up...

So far, I am enjoying the vehicle...fuel consumption is very very low....and parts are dead cheap...

These are present pictures of the vehicle

All the vehicles you listed are notorious for roll-overs...that's what Nigerians call Somersault grin

Forget the name....if it's not a Range Rover, Merc G63 or G55, or a land cruiser or land Rover, be careful how you put your trust in these cars with high suspension called 'SUV'...

That high ground clearance which you think is an advantage because of bad roads becomes a handicap when navigating bends ...

Point is....get whatever among them suits you.. Just don't follow into a bend at equal speed that Camry or Golf 4 ...also avoid side slanting slopes because the road-Grip of these so called SUVs are nothing spectacular. ..and once again that high centre of gravity makes a side sloping road quite perilous

Lucky dude you are!

Really crazy what you disclosed about the conniving mechanic up there though, after collecting 10kilo service fee. I am shocked
People are bastards mehhn
I tell you Bro...The monkey wanted to send me into Hell for just 20k cheesy

Since this is my 1st car, I have no mechanic I can trust for inspection in my area...but I suppose the mechanic who has been servicing my friend's car for 5 years is doing a nice Job...so I will just drive there and do servicing, do some nozzle cleaning, and check the ball joints and then drive from my Base to Kaduna to do a more vigorous testing of my Jalopy.. grin

So I will just trust my eyes, take the dive and hope for the best

When I have enough funds for a good car, I will just pay Gazzuzz for purchase, registration and delivery grin

For now tho, I am playing Baba ijebu grin

Seller even disclosing the next maintenance item must be a different human being. Some don't tell you all that.

Strong car, Honda bullet.

Bargain for #180-200k and hear what he tells you.

I nearly bought one for #150k for a friend, but that had issues with fuel pump to be fixed.

Regards
Sir, having searched for months in my area, this is the cheapest Honda bullet with a 1st body and acceptably working components ....Going to Abuja, Kano or Kaduna o buy a presumably cheaper one with a difference of 50k does not appeal to me ....it's not like I have seen a 200k Functional Honda Bullet tho...and I have searched both on this forum and all over my state....i have inspected some advertised on this forum for 300k and the engines were either smoking, or gearbox was quarter to die...and no...i never saw anyone with a true first body within my budget..

Other things being equal, I will pick up the car today and update this thread smiley ....if Gazzuzz was close, I woukd have paid his inspection fee for him to examine the Jalopy grin...but as him no dey, I will just trust my instincts and take the dive...May the gods be with me grin

Besides the seller is giving the car away with a brand new battery...Battery that may have cost me almost 20k to get...

Last Last, with my budget, I can't be too finicky...This car just costs a little above my TV grin..all I seek right now is that the car is legit and runs peacefully.......and so far, I think the odds are in my favor

The seller initially refused my 240k and insisted on 260k....it was like two days later that the person who connected me wirh the seller called Me back and said if I pay 240k, I will renew the vehicle papers myself and buy a spare tyre...the vehicle comes with a spare rim tho....

GAZZUZZ:
Bros go with mechanic o! Don't pull a legalwealth on me pls .
Of course not Sir cheesy

Most Mechanics over here collude wirh car dealers to certify cars for purchase at a fee...the last time I went for a car inspection within my poor 300k groundnut budget, the mecho urged me to buy a henessy with a smoking engine, and even took the whole thing vascular when I refused...Bros was almost swearing for me and shouting that since I was not ready to buy the car, why did iinvite him to check it...and I already paid him 10k for the inspection oo

It was later one of the seller's boys told me that the mecho had already agreed to a fee of 20k with his boss to convince me to buy the car

So This time, I just took a friend who has owned a well maintained same type of car for about 6 years...We took the car on a 40km spin and he said all was good except that the steering was tilting a bit to the right...He said that was nothing an alignment cannot cure...

Furthermore, the car is coming with number plates, although the documents have expired and I have to renew them and also do change of ownership

The owner so says the vehicle is almost due for servicing ...so I have to do that as well as check the vehicle's ball joints to avoid the notorious honda leg pull

Interior is a bit dirty but to a great extent factory spec...
