The different timeframes that these two approaches use is a result of the nature of the investing style to which they each adhere. It can take a long time for a company's value to be reflected in the market, so when a fundamental analyst estimates intrinsic value, a gain is not realized until the stock's market price rises to its "correct" value. This type of investing is called value investing and assumes that the short-term market is wrong, but that the price of a particular stock will correct itself over the long run. This "long run" can represent a timeframe of as long as several years, in some cases. (For more insight, read Warren Buffett: How He Does It and What Is Warren Buffett's Investing Style?) |

wanaj0: Think of this: People that invested in companies/businesses that are not quoted/traded on an exchange what do they consider since there is no PRICE to look at everyday. There is no BEAR or BULL. That will give you an inkling of how to look at an investment! Value!!! |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by sellydion: 11:16am On Aug 17, 2018 |
wanaj0: Interesting BUT
1) Stock market is by definition for LONG TERM investment. So how long has your investment lasted before the loss of livelihood? 2) Do you see investment in stocks as BUYING a company/business? If YES, is that COMPANY still in operation? Is that company still profitable? Is that company still paying dividends? Is that company still growing? If YES to all the above, you've got nothing to worry about. 3) LASTLY never us SHORT TERM funds for LONG TERM investment.
Please, market will always go up and down. Never believe anyone who tells you he/she is able to time the market.
Expectations MUST be managed. Thanks Oga Wanaj0. Your short time fund should be invested in risk free asset class like treasury bill,Commercial paper, Certificate of guarantee. Short timing the market for huge return is a recipe for disaster. You may get it once or twice, the market will surely bite back. |

One would have expected that they will stop being active in the market until December if they actually believe their own rhetorics! Some just enjoy the information and atmosphere but discipline enough not to place a bet |

tiar: The reality is
1. What is your investment horizon?
2. Is the market overall bullish or bearish?
3. What is the fair value (many people fail here; many people can throw out values, few can do proper valuation)? Entry and exit is beyond quarterly performances.
Your answers to these questions will lead you to the appropriate action to take. Having a plan before entry will help and sticking to it. Average down in a good stock trading below fair value is okay for me. While using stops in a good stock trading above fair value is also welcome. Both are useful for in relative circumstances. |
