The different timeframes that these two approaches use is a result of the nature of the investing style to which they each adhere. It can take a long time for a company's value to be reflected in the market, so when a fundamental analyst estimates intrinsic value, a gain is not realized until the stock's market price rises to its "correct" value. This type of investing is called value investing and assumes that the short-term market is wrong, but that the price of a particular stock will correct itself over the long run. This "long run" can represent a timeframe of as long as several years, in some cases. (For more insight, read Warren Buffett: How He Does It and What Is Warren Buffett's Investing Style?)

Think of this: People that invested in companies/businesses that are not quoted/traded on an exchange what do they consider since there is no PRICE to look at everyday. There is no BEAR or BULL. That will give you an inkling of how to look at an investment!
Value!!! grin

Interesting BUT

1) Stock market is by definition for LONG TERM investment. So how long has your investment lasted before the loss of livelihood?
2) Do you see investment in stocks as BUYING a company/business? If YES, is that COMPANY still in operation? Is that company still profitable? Is that company still paying dividends? Is that company still growing? If YES to all the above, you've got nothing to worry about.
3) LASTLY never us SHORT TERM funds for LONG TERM investment.

Please, market will always go up and down. Never believe anyone who tells you he/she is able to time the market.

Expectations MUST be managed.
Thanks Oga Wanaj0. Your short time fund should be invested in risk free asset class like treasury bill,Commercial paper, Certificate of guarantee.

Short timing the market for huge return is a recipe for disaster. You may get it once or twice, the market will surely bite back.

China pulling that kind of stunt will wound the United States

That's what presidents before this nicompoop Trump knew, and decided to tread carefully

But trump has gone all out, and see the disaster it is causing.

I was watching CGTN the other day, and the Chinese govt is still blowing hot, saying tit for tat will be the way from now on

And I was like :I shocked shocked

MARABOZU IS COMING WEAR AN HARD HAT

BullBearMkt:
MARKET IS NOW CLOSE TO 50% FIB RETRACEMENT!
On the weekly chart, NSE index is now close to a major support at 34900 which incidentally is at Fib 50% retracement level. I expect some reaction at this price level, as it has acted previously as a good resistance in late 2014 and early 2015.

But if the index zoomed below this level, the targets then goes to either 61.8% or better still 78.6% level. 78.6% fib level is the sweet spot and any price rejection at this point should be taken seriously because many stocks will also come with good rally.

Time is the key in this market. Will the tense political environment continue to drive the market lower or global uncertainty will have ripple effect on NSE? Only time will tell. But there is no need to be afraid, market is creating more opportunity for many to make money, we only need to be patient and enter the market at the right time...

Is it not ironic that the same people who are quoting prices and asking people to come back in December are the ones monitoring stock price every now and then.

One would have expected that they will stop being active in the market until December if they actually believe their own rhetorics!

Good project. Mine is to buy stocks below 60+% percentage down at differently levels. The lower they go the better. I mean good ones.

The core of my trading is margin of safety within a reasonable time the market must revert back to the mean and above.

The reality is

1. What is your investment horizon?

2. Is the market overall bullish or bearish?

3. What is the fair value (many people fail here; many people can throw out values, few can do proper valuation)? Entry and exit is beyond quarterly performances.

Your answers to these questions will lead you to the appropriate action to take.
Having a plan before entry will help and sticking to it.

Average down in a good stock trading below fair value is okay for me.

While using stops in a good stock trading above fair value is also welcome.

Both are useful for in relative circumstances.
