Family › Re: 8 Challenges To Face Your 1st Year Of Marriage by SenatorJames(m): 6:03pm On Nov 15, 2014 |
braine: It’s said that the first year of marriage is the hardest one. The adjustments and changes that spouses encounter as newlyweds topple almost every other period in life — you and your spouse may feel stuck between the couple you used to be and the married couple you want to become. Marriage is a big risk; it can guarantee a lifetime of love, fulfillment, security and satisfaction, but it can also lead to quarrels, abuse, loneliness and divorce. Here are the top eight challenges that spouses may need to overcome in their first year:
1) Domesticity Problems The first thing that springs to mind is anything associated with domesticity. This means anything that can be lumped into what we like to call “household chores,”like washing the dishes, doing the laundry, tidying up or cooking dinner. For many recently married people, sharing a house with someone else is entirely new. Trying to divide the tasks in a fair and even way can put an enormous strain on a relationship.
2) Financial Issues Financial issues always crop up in the first year of marriage. Being married means sharing everything, spending money together, saving money together and dividing the income fairly. For the first time ever, you can’t simply decide to save up for a holiday or a new car; nor can you impulsively buy that new pair of designer boots. Your partner’s financial sensibilities have to be taken into account.
3) Romance Challenge When you’re married, it’s easy to stop being romantic. There’s an element of safety, and the “you’re not going anywhere” mentality comes with a dwindling of the things that can make a relationship worth it; texting and calling from work, going out for a nice meal, flirting and looking good for one another.
4) Personality Differences Living together means spending a lot of time together, so it’s inevitable that certainlifestyle differenceswill become abundantly clear. You might enjoy eating out while your partner might like to stay in and cook. You might like reading, and your partner might prefer watching television. It’s important to negotiate, compromise and find a balance.
5) Lifestyle Changes As a married couple, the first year will bring a whirlwind of lifestyle changes. In your dating period, it was probably very relaxed, casual and fun. In a marriage, these things are inevitably combined withsome of the more boring stuff, like planning, working, stressing over money and sleeping early as opposed to going out and dancing. It’s important not to resent your partner for this.
6) Parental Influence When you’re dating, it’s just the two of you. When you’re married, it’s the whole family or both families. You have in-laws to impress. You’ve taken their child away, so they’re bound to stick their noses into your affairs.Parental influencecan be a real burden on your marriage before you get used to it.
7) Unexpected Fights The first year of marriage is said to bring aninflux of fighting. This is probably because you’re with each other all the time for the first time since your relationship began. Plus, the fights may have an intensity that they didn’t have before, and you might feel like you have fewer places to escape.
Independent Plans It becomes easy to start acting independentlyof one another in the first year.Bound by the wedding ring, you might feel more inclined to make plans without consulting your partner. If you get into the habit of doing this early on, there’s a danger it might affect your entire marriage.
Marriage can be the most rewarding decision that you’ll make in your life. If you make it to your first anniversary, you’re halfway there. By establishing a strong base on which to build, the rest of your married life should be something you can anticipate, plan towards and look forward to.

olukenzo: OP, I love planes. I am going to someday, somehow fly one as an hobby of course.
There is nothing special in flying in a plane, IDK. The only somewhat quirky part is the take-off and descent/landing.
This was how I felt when I flew for the first time.
The plane has to taxi a little bit on the taxiway, moving from the terminal to the runway. You know, making all those boring bends and just moving at a slow pace for a while. I am always bored by this part. No excitement whatsoever! Speed was about, say, 20km/h.
Then it gets to the runway, it stops, the engines fire! and it becomes louder. Damn it, I love this part!!! It begins to move at blinding speed greater than 200Km/h. A force opposite the direction of motion of the plane pushes your head backwards...Ahhh adrenaline!!!
Just when you are about to cuum, it lifts off on you-- climbing. The tires get off the ground. It is at this stage that some bush people fomit There is this momentary weightlessness, elevation. The tires leave the ground and the plane achieves altitude. There is a point here during ascent when it feels like the plane is falling, it is not, it is simply not climbing as steeply as before and/as there is "cutback" to reduce the thrust used to take-off. This part is a little fun too.
Cruise is boring, except if it is Amelica you are travelling to The plane changes altitude from time to time, the pilot as well will at some times tell you the altitude, speed, location and condition of the flight.
Descent and landing is not as exciting as take-off from the point of view of the passenger (I love watching planes land and take-off). The plane loses altitude gradually, gets on the runway with a screeching sound. The speed here too is WOW. You'll almost feel as if the plane is not gonna stop. It does stop, all the times I have flown
Due to the time of your flight, you may have experienced some of these already. I wish you safe flight back.
/*****************Edit*****************/ The OP didnt make the flight. I feel like deleting my comment, mschewww. Please don't delete it, because of we that enjoyed your dramatic illustration. |

BreezyRita: When couples get married, who follows who where?? Does the woman have to attend the husband's church?? Can it ever be the other way round?
The norm is the woman following her husband, but what if you love a man but you're not okay with his denomination?? I won't mind attending my wife's church, if its a living church where the true word of God is been preached. But she cannot command me, I will just accept it for her as a sign of mutual respect. That is one thing I was able to established in the heart of my Jesus corpers, when I was the NCCF Papa. Even though we have our own church, we the executive do worship in all "true" churches around the town. |

No. Cousin, Aunt, Nephew, Niece, Uncle are all consider as family members in the Africa believe, even though you may not be related to them directly by blood. |

contactmorak: A woman in Gbagada some years back married her fiance and when they asked her what she saw in him, she said he was tall, dark and handsome and God fearing. But few years down the line, she broke up with him when she found out he had been sleeping with their 14 year old maid.
Ask many ladies today what they look out for in a husband and they will tell you that he must be tall, dark, handsome and Godfearing. Though, you can automatically tell a man's height, complexion and good looks, how do you know if he is Godfearing? A man that consider how God will feels about his action before taken it. Someone that will not allow anything affect his relationship with God. Someone that enjoys God's acceptance more than men's choice. |
Romance › Re: Things A Guy Should Never Do To Impress A Lady by SenatorJames(m): 9:11am On Nov 15, 2014 |
LaurelP: We guys have been made to think that we must always do anything possible to impress the female folk. I'm not against a guy loving her babe, I'm against a guy doing silly things in order to impress a lady.
The truth is that most times, these actions come back to haunt us while, we get to regret at the end.
1. Consuming too much alcohol: most guys are guilty of this especially when trying to woo a lady or when taking her to bed. This is wrong in so many ways: it will damage your health, its a temporary measure, you most times end up misbehaving and its not a guarantee that you'll succeed in wooing or performing well in bed. Besides, the lady will know that you took something and that you lack confidence and esteem. Be yourself.
2. Spending above your means: whether its buying things you don't really need in order to look rich and fly, or spoiling the lady with things you normally should not be buying. Its wrong. I see a lot of guys do this and I keep wondering to what purpose? The worst is many of them come back to their senses when its already too late!
3. Lying: I'm not talking about the small lies guys normally tell, I'm talking about bragging to a lady about what you're not. Why tell a lady your father is Dangote's brother, or you're a Chelsea player, or you work in Shell. This will make her have high expectation from you which you would be trying to live up to.
4. Badmouthing your fellow guys: Maybe a guy that is also coming after her. Its wrong for a guy to maltreat his fellow in any way because of a lady. Whether its badmouthing, fighting or quarelling with him, its not worth it.
5. Giving your values and beliefs: Maybe you're a committed Christian or Muslim, you start backsliding or become uncommitted because she told you to. You start to abandon your loved ones and family, your studies begin to nosedive and even your job sef, you become unserious. Its a very silly thing to do because when the chips are down, those are the only things that will get you going- God, your family and loved ones and your job which will put food on your table.
6. Pretending to be who you're not: there's no need to pretend to be a bad guy if you're not. There are still ladies who values good guys. U don't need to force yourself to seem confident if you're a shy guy. People will know you're just acting it up.
Add yours please... Ok. Noted |

what a sensible post humilitypays: What majority of serious guys seek for in a lady they want to settle down with are: humility, availability and simplicity, not status or career, and unfortunately, many female bankers and some working class ladies lack those qualities cos ladies get easily carried away by little career achievement
Men who are ready to marry and have a stable source of income don't care what a lady does for a living...all they want is the things I mentioned above, ladies take note The true state of mind of many men, when looking for future partner to settle with. Most time we are not interested in how much you earn, just be doing something to contribute or not to be idle, most men are able to take care of the family independently. |
