Trust me, console games are much better than PC games! |
1) According to 'Reasons Why Women Have Induced Abortions: Evidence from 27 Countries', The top reasons for induced abortion among women in Nigeria are: - "Having a child will disrupt my education or job" (40.4%) - "I have a relationship problem" or "my partner does not want the pregnancy" (31.9%) - "I want to postpone childbearing" (19.9%) Other reasons include: - "I want no (more) children" - "I cannot afford a baby". - "I'm too young - my parents object to the pregnancy". 2) I find abortion acceptable if the mother's health is in danger. I find late-stage abortion (after 6, 7 months plus) disturbing. I find it unacceptable in cases of rape because if the rape is reported immediately to a good doctor there is almost no risk of pregnancy. In all other cases, I have no opinion - each case should be considered separately. (I don't think it's legal in Nigeria if the mother's health isn't at risk) 3) It depends on the case. Where pregnancy is concerned, prevention is better than the cure. |
Tuesday 9th August 2005 For the first time, the Lagos Lottery has produced two jackpot winners in one week! Muiz Abayomi Ayoola, 21, a student from Ketu, emerged as the first winner to share in last week’s jackpot prize of N2.5 million, walking away with a cool N1.25 million. Muiz has recently completed a course at a local computer school and is waiting for entrance into university where he plans to study accounting and dreams to become a chartered accountant one day. He comes from a family of seven children and is currently unemployed and is supported by his mother who is a local trader. Interestingly, it turns out that in order to stand a better chance of winning, Muiz clubbed together with two friends who each put in N100 so they could buy two N150 tickets between them. His lucky friends who get to share the N1.25 million with Muiz are Afeez Ameen, 22, who is studying mass communication at OOU and Muyiwa Ogunkelu, 24, who is also waiting for admission into university. According to Muiz, this was his first time of playing the Lagos Lottery and he did so on his brother’s recommendation. His brother had formerly played getting four (4) numbers in the first draw. Muiz and his friends purchased their winning ticket from Jeremob Ventures Business Centre in Ketu on Wednesday last week, choosing the numbers randomly amongst themselves while also taking his brother’s advice on two numbers. While another syndicate member watched the draw on Saturday night, Muiz had the ticket so his friend was not certain if they were winners. He immediately rushed over to meet Muiz with the draw results and there was much jubilation when they realised they were winners! Muiz said he couldn’t sleep the whole of Saturday night, dreaming of what he would do with his winnings. The three syndicate members will split their winnings between them evenly and Muiz says he will give some of his portion to his mother and save the rest for his education. Muiz and his two friends came into Orion Technologies’ head office on Monday morning to claim their prize. As per Orion’s LOTTO game rules of paying a single ticket holder, Muiz was paid the full N1.25 million as syndicates must choose a syndicate manager to represent them and the prize is paid out to that representative. It is the responsibility of syndicates to arrange payments between their members. Amazingly, Muiz and his friends were not the only jackpot winners last week! There is still a lucky ticket holder out there who has also won N1.25 million, according to General Manger: Business Development of Orion Technologies, Dominic Dempers. Dempers urged all players from last week to check their tickets against the winning numbers of 1, 17, 20, 25, 28 and 36 to make sure that they don’t miss out on this lucrative prize. For the next draw, a special "One Month Anniversary Draw" promotion is on whereby N5000 is a guaranteed payout for Division Four (match four numbers) and N750 is a guaranteed payout for Division Five (match three numbers), "We are committed to producing more winners and more millionaires among Lagosians every week. All you have to do is buy your Lagos Lottery tickets from our authorised dealers at any Oando filling station, all Oceanic bank branches in Lagos, independent retailers and our vendors on the street dressed in magenta coloured dungarees, pick your six numbers and watch for the results on our game show. The Lagos Lottery TV Game Show is on at 8:30pm every Saturday, on Silverbird TV and you might just be the next winner". I'm sorry, I don't have the resources for to give a weekly summary of the show. We'll have to think of a way to motivate people to provide this information for free! |
And who is Ronald Opus? A Nigerian politician? ![]() |
Girlfriend-beating or wife-beating is a very easy problem to solve. All you need is a central database where girlfriends of violent men can submit their names and say "this is what he did, future girlfriends beware". But if you discuss it with women they'll express absolutely no interest. If your husband is beating you and you take it to your mother she wil say "bear with it". If you take it to his mother she would say "it's your fault". SO I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the womenfolk. If they are not happy with the status quo, then they should throw their weights behind efforts to change things. |
Thanks, de-king, for sharing this story with us. |
Then read the excerpt from the first post. It's mostly about domestic abuse in an African setting. |
I think the blame lies solely with women - they permit it, they encourage it. If a mother trains her son not to be a wife-beater, he would not be a wife-beater. Nigerian women are quite liberated but they insist on holding on to traditions that do not pay them. In addition to that, women in positions of influence (e.g. mother of the husband) do little to discourage this problem from extending to the next generation. I I'm going to put the blame on the women 100%. If you're interested in statistics, I know a marriage counselor who discovered that 50% of husbands in pentecostal churches, those miracle-believing, bible-quoting people, beat their wives from time to time. And of course they are protected by their women; you will not know such a thing happens unless it's happening in your house. |
Me? trip? No way? I don't trip for nobody! |
Forgive me but I'm no longer in a position to give the prize. Thanks, everyone, for participating! |
hot-angel, you'd better tell him what you want. If you want a small car, tell him you want a small car. make it clear that you won't be happy if he gets you a truck. Why would he want to spend so much money if you won't be getting what you want? ![]() |

Thank you, bioye. She was presentable enough to be accepted as the Vice President on the World Bank Group so what the hell are you girls saying? She's good enough for the world bank and for president Obasanjo but not good enough for you because you are ... what? To you she seems local because she's wearing native dress? Haven't you seen Richard Branson wearing native dress when he's in Nigeria? Does that make him local? Follow the first link on the first post, you'l see that she's a Havard and MIT graduate: "Okonjo-Iweala graduated with a A.B. magna cum laude in Economics from Harvard University and holds a Ph.D. in Regional Economics and Development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology." link. Those are two of the most respected universities in the world and she's a graduate of both. Please, people, let's learn to pay attention to what's important. |
If a popular (and supposedly beautiful) woman like Stella Damascus has even 7 kids, it doesn't stop men from wanting to go out with her and even marrying her. Same with Omotola (sigh) and any other actress who, apart from being beautiful, is percieved as being cool-headed. (men can fall for beauty but when marriage comes into the picture we simply do not like domestic stress). [The generalissue of marrying women with kids should be discussed on a new topic] The second poster has made a most insightful comment. Even if Stella Damascus is not yet dating (I don't believe she is), she has to keep a high public profile to keep the money flowing in. Stardom is all about being popular and if she doesn't keep herself in the public eye, she may be forgotten. A forgotten star is a hungry star, and we do not want her children to go hungry! |
I use a Fixed Wireless Phone on an ISP known as Multilinks to get round-the-clock internet access at dial-up speed. It costs almost exactly 500 naira per day. |
I started out blogging for adsense, but to succeed as a professional blogger it has to be your primary pre-occupation. You have to be able to project an interesting, likeable personality and write about popular topics, or else you'll need to pick a topic where you're the expert. (That's why I moved to forums; so people can discuss issues they love but I have absolutely no interest in - like Sports)! Back to the topic: Bloggers in the house, what motivated you to start your blog? |
I work on Nairaland day and night. This is where I get my daily bread, not a "fun" venture. And that is why I don't appreciate it when some people try to mess it up by not following the simple rules. (Yes, Nairaland is actually cash-flow positive). |
1 Corinthians 7: Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. ... Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. 9But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. ... Are you married? Do not seek a divorce. Are you unmarried? Do not look for a wife. But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Well, any comments? |
"The separation of church and state is a concept and philosophy in modern thought and practice, whereby the structures of state or national government are proposed as needing to be separate from those of religious institutions. The concept has long been a topic of political debate throughout history." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state |
ikebe - backside lepa - slim woman urobo - fat-ish woman |
She is 51 years old but definitely prettier than most of the girls who are saying she needs a make-over. This is what we call "bad-belle" in Nigeria. You are upset with her because she has been able to achieve so much without depending on men's attraction for her. You are upset because while you were busy spending all your time in the mirror trying to look good for men, this woman was busy climbing the ladder of success using the right tools - hard work, determination, ambition, intelligence - and not sexual apeal or 'woman-power'. The people saying she needs to be more presentable are saying absolute nonsense. I think she looks quite good, but then again I think it's absolutely irrelevant. The fact that the girls are harping on something so irrelevant is proof that Nigerian women are not ripe for positions of influence. |
Actually, kazey, IAH deserved the credit for that observation. |
What do I consider as beauty in a woman? Here are my first thoughts: - When the presence of a woman brings peace, tranquility, and love - not stress. - When a woman is strong enough to make decisions that make a difference and take full responsibility for her actions, instead of hiding in the shadow of the men in her life. - When a woman does not habitually tell lies. You'll be surprised how rare this is. |
whizkid, please continue with your daily updates. I'm making this thread a sticky thread. |
