EducationWAEC Examination Leakage Scandal by Seun(mod): 2:29am On May 19, 2005
"FOR as low as N5000, students sitting for the on-going West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASCE) can procure a question paper, whatever the subject. The price varies from source of procurement to the bargaining power of the buyer."
Vanguard | AllAfrica

I really don't know what to say about this. Is it simply impossible to conduct an exam in Nigeria without widespread cheating? Is there a way to stop this from happening over and over again?

Nairaland GeneralRe: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by Seun(mod): 1:47am On May 19, 2005
Mamba, I do not like snakes. Most human beings hate snakes.
[li]They are reptiles. Who wants to keep scaly creatures as pets?[/li][li]They are potentially dangerous: Some bite, some sting, some can strangle a full-grown man to death. It takes an expert to tell which snake is harmless and which is not, so we just avoid and kill them all![/li][li]Snakes are supposed to be evil[/li]
So I don't like snakes and if you do please don't bring them near me! Though, at the same time, I'm curious to know why people keep snakes as pets. I mean, why keep a pet you can't actually pet?

What is there to gain by impeaching him? How does this move the country forward? Are we supposed to take them serious this time?

Ok, so let's say the impeachment is successful. Where then do we go from there?

RomanceRe: Why Won't a Girl Tell a Boy That She Likes Him? by Seun(mod):
Here's another way to look at it.

If you like a particular man, ask him what he would do if a girl were to propose to him.

If he says he's ok with it go ahead and do your thing wink

If he says otherwise (like Greatpeter) save your ego and look elsewhere. grin
FashionRe: Every Nigerian Girl Is A Model These Days by Seun(mod): 6:50pm On May 18, 2005
Technically, they aren't lying. We can think of them as amateur models or freelancers.

All other things being equal, I would choose a girl who is something else (entrepreneur? doctor? maid?) over a model or actress. It's like sharing your other half with the whole world. Ewww.
PoliticsRe: Was Murtala Mohammed a good man? by Seun(mod): 5:53pm On May 18, 2005
I've heard people say that, if his regime had not been cut short, he might have turned out to be one of the worst dictators ever to come out of Africa. Judging from the way he started (I think a military governor was executed for some reason) those people might be right.

Ra: https://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons/35.gif best response so far, but ...

I think we're not quite a third of the way there. What causes it? Who has it? How many people have it? Where are they? It it an all-or-nothing thing or does it have mild forms? Does it happen suddenly or gradually? Do you know anyone who has experienced it?

Or is depression simply another word for sadness?
FashionRe: Every Nigerian Girl Is A Model These Days by Seun(mod): 11:51pm On May 17, 2005
I think it has something to do with the big 3 GSM companies (MTN, Vmobile, Glo).

MTN in particular has been bombarding young men and women all over the country with images of flawless male and female models picked from our Universities (maybe just UNILAG?) Why won't every young lady want to be a model?

GamingRe: PC or Console For Game? by Seun(mod): 6:30pm On May 17, 2005
I used to feel the same way until my brother got his XBox! The beauty of the console is that you don't have to worry about hardware compatibility, and it comes with gamepads which are definitely better for gameplay than keyboards or mice!

The best combination is a dedicated game console and a digital (high resolution) television screen.

What about the famous War Against Indiscipline (WAI) program? (I remember my parents telling me that during General Murtala Mohammed's short rule people had to form queues to enter commercial buses.) The old WAI program is the inspiration for the current Lagos State government's "KAI" programme ('Kick Against Indiscipline').

Odunayo, to play 'African Queen' on your PC right now, just go to the official website and wait for 5-25 minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection, and you will hear the song on your PC.

We're working on making it possible for our members to listen to Nigerian music from their accounts, but we want to do it in a legal manner, without violating any laws.
TV/MoviesRe: Gulder Ultimate Search 2 by Seun(mod): 1:52pm On May 17, 2005
I caught the end of the show yesterday. Apparently, someone won 500,000 naira in one of their promos ("buy a bottle of Gulder, check under the crown-top, ..."wink

Will this program succeed in getting people who don't drink to buy Gulder? Would it convince people who drink Gulder already to drink more often? If the answer to any of the above questions is "yes", is this a good thing?

PoliticsRe: Was Murtala Mohammed a good man? by Seun(mod): 3:08am On May 17, 2005
Wikipedia to the Rescue:

"General Murtala Ramat Mohammed (November 8, 1938–February 13, 1976) was a military ruler (Head of the Federal Military Government) of Nigeria (1975–1976).

"Mohammed opposed the regime of Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi which took power after a coup d'etat on January 15, 1966, and he was a leader of the successful counter-coup of July 29, 1966. Mohammed led the crucial seizure of the airport at Ikeja, which was later renamed the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in his honor. He at first intended to use the coup as a step towards the secession of northern Nigeria, but later dropped this demand.

"The coup led to the installation of Lieutenant-Colonel Yakubu Gowon in power. On July 29, 1975, the anniversary of the last coup, Mohammed led another and seized power for himself. He was, however, killed on February 13, 1976 in an abortive coup attempt when his car was ambushed in traffic in Lagos. It is widely believed that Britain was actively involved in this assassination. (One of the prime assailants took refuge in the British embassy there immediately after the assassination.)

"He was succeeded by his chief of staff, Olusegun Obasanjo, who completed the plan of an orderly transfer to civilian rule by handing power to Alhaji Shehu Shagari on October 1, 1979."

It is hard to label a military leader as a "good man".
HealthWhat is Depression? win a special prize. by Seun(mod): 1:43am On May 17, 2005
Hello,

I find that the level of awareness about depression or other neurological diseases is very low. So I'm asking a simple question below. The person with the best response will win a special prize.

The question is 'what is depression?'

The best original response as chosen by judges will attract a special prize.

Regards,
Seun.

Like 2face Idibia's 'African Queen' and Styl Plus's 'Olufunmi', Sunny Neji's 'Oruka' is one song that just about every Nigerian lady (grin) knows by heart. A song that, one webmaster said, "makes us anticipate our wedding day!"

ORUKA LYRICS (Sunny Neji)
Oruka ti d'owo naa

K'o s'eni to le ya mi titi lai

Oruka ti d'owo naa

He who finds a wife has found a good thing
And obtains favor from the Lord
You've found the harmony to the song you sing
You can do anything you wanna, cmon

She is your mother and your sister and your lover and you {cover?} and your teacher your everything

The Lord is your shepherd you shall not want,
He will lead you by the still waters,
He's always there, so you have nothing to fear,

(common say)
Bye bye, bye bye to Mommy,
Bye bye, bye bye to Daddy,
You want to be with your Wifey,
Bye bye bye bye to Mommy
You want to be with your Hussy,
Bye bye bye bye to Daddy.

Mommy don't cry
'cause your baby girl has become a woman
Daddy don't cry
'cause your baby boy has become a man today

ba ba bye, ba ba bye , {many, many times rolleyes}
Brother don't cry, sister don't cry.
Aunty don't cry, uncle don't cry.
