naijadeyhia:The whole point of speaking in tongues is that your brain does not process the words. It just spews them out mindlessly. That's very easy. |
naijadeyhia:False. To your first comment I can tell you categorically that when anyone attempts to speak gibberish, in order to sustain that so called gibberish he would need the active participation of his brain.Generating gibberish is extremely easy compared to most things the brain has to do, so it makes sense for brain activity to drop a little bit. |
naijadeyhia:False. There was a dip in frontal lobe activity, but it was still quite active. Concocting gibberish is easy. It doesn't require much brainpower. |
naijadeyhia:You seem to have misunderstood the science. The science shows a dip in frontal lobe and left caudate activity specifically when speaking in tongues. I suspect that generating nonsense sounds requires far less subconscious brainpower than creating a dynamic simulation of reality. naijadeyhia:All spiritual events take place in the imaginative minds of believers. A good example would be the one you described earlier on this thread. |
Ebuka2016:No, that may help your symptoms but you need to find out the real cause of the problem before you can be permanently cured. I wish some of the actual doctors on this forum would take a look at this case. |

This is the first time an action by the NCC hasn't made sense to me. What went wrong? (it seems the chairman was replaced 3 months ago) |
naijadeyhia:I said it was as spiritual as any spiritual experience that anybody has ever had, which is correct. But it was also purely psychological. Indeed, all spiritual experiences are mostly psychological. My experience was emotional and genuine but very natural, just like every spiritual experience. |
Emmanystone:Nothing is spiritual in the 'true' sense. All the things people perceive as being spiritual are just psychological in nature, primarily emotional. |
Congratulations to everyone!!! |
naijadeyhia, thanks for sharing your experience. The feeling you described as "electricity" is best described as a tingling sensation. People often feel it when they listen to really moving music or watch powerful scenes in movies or when they orgasm or when something really scares them. It's associated with intense emotional states. You reacted to it in the way that you did probably because you interpreted it as a sign that the Holy Spirit was literally touching you all over. What was your pastor doing during the 2 hours that you were lying on the floor, speaking in tongues? Weren't you disturbing the service? Also, why did the pastor have to direct the Holy Spirit to release you before you stopped? Didn't the Holy Spirit know that it was time to stop? |

mostyg:Can you give an example of a time when you experienced such? If not, what leads you to believe that it has ever happened? |
I used to speak in tongues, and I can probably still do it, even though I've been an atheist since before I started Nairaland: Seun: |
naijadeyhia:Correction: I didn't say it was "not spiritual". I said it was not supernatural. It was as spiritual as any actual religious experience. |
When I gave my life to Christ at Foursquare Gospel Church, I was in JSS 1. After we said the sinner's prayer, our Sunday School teacher tried to get us baptised in the Holy Spirit. I was waiting for the Holy Spirit to descend on me and make me speak in tongues, but I didn't feel anything. Most of the girls started speaking in tongues, but I got nothing. I earnestly and sincerely ask God for it, but nothing happened. When I got to Ife and started attending ECU, the fellowship my parents attended, we had to take a membership class and my teacher and his best friend also tried to get me baptised in the Holy Spirit to no avail. I remember them taking me to the sports center and praying with me and urging me to speak. I patiently waited for the Holy Spirit to descend on me but nothing happened. Then they had to explain that speaking in tongues is by faith. God supplies the word, and we speak them out, they said. To me it sounded as if they were encouraging me to fake it, and suggesting that everyone fakes it, but I just couldn't accept that. I wanted to experience it genuinely, like the apostles did in the bible. So one day, as I was praying very intensely in my room, I felt a subtle urge to start saying some nonsense words that came to my mind, and I did. And once I started, I found that new words came to my mind and I could continue speaking them. That's how I started speaking in tongues. In my fellowship, it was common for the pastors to ask everyone to start speaking in tongues during worship; now I could join in! But it was also a bit of a disappointment because the experience was emotional, not supernatural. The Holy Spirit didn't take over my body. When I was re-watching Sinach's video to transcribe her tongues, I actually felt the urge to speak in tongues again. I think listening to the beautiful way she sang the tongues triggered something in me. I bet I can still speak in tongues today if I choose to succumb to the feeling. |
naijadeyhia:The video suggests that some Christians do not consciously concoct nonsense words when they speak in tongues. For those Christians, the tongues come from their subconscious minds while they are emotionally aroused. Those Christians are under a genuine and honest delusion. |
Amadaz:I don't believe that this has ever happened. You could be falsely accused of having transformed, and many people would stupidly believe it. |
It's highly recommended for ladies who are allergic to unwanted pregnancies, HIV/AIDS, etc, and whose bodies aren't made of wood. |
AnonyNymous:yea, he actually studied Spanish before the accident, so the real story is that he couldn't speak English for a while. |

Feel free to explain why the "witch" could not have asked a NEPA official to ensure that the power would be off during her demonstration. |
If felixomor has something to say about live power lines, he should go ahead and say it. |
felixomor:But they had watches. "Switch off the power at 3pm and reconnect it at 4pm. I'll start my demonstration at 3:10 for safety" |
felixomor:Or probably someone the "witch" knew. |
felixomor:Electrical technicians climb electric power lines all the time without electrocution. The key is to have the power switched off before climbing it. ![]() |
Smallville10:The people who wrote the bible believed in so many things that don't exist, such as God, angels, satan, demons, and miracles. Most books, chapters and verses are full of references to these imaginary things. That makes it hard to find a significant portion of the bible that is all true. |
KingEbukasBlog:Thanks. Engaging you isn't difficult, just pointless, like prayer. Even if you become an atheist, you'll be a lying atheist, so what's the point? It is a fact, as I said, that most bible scholars believe that the story of Exodus is a work of fiction. Any honest google search will show this. |
felixomor:He didn't, but I hate engaging apologists. I believe it's largely a waste of time. I prefer to engage with people who are honestly wrong. KingEbukasBlog:It is a fact that most bible scholars believe that the story of Exodus is fiction. Even your cherry-picked article mentions two scholars who do. |
KingEbukasBlog:Any reference to things that don't exist is fiction. Any story that bible scholars don't believe to have actually happened is fiction. For example. most bible scholars believe the story of exodus is fictional. Upon reflection, this is obvious. All those mighty signs couldn't have happened. |
mostyg:You mean like speaking in tongues? |
I'm very glad that you got lucky, though it is unfortunate that other guy was chased and injured. |
