Well done, Seun. I am Igbo and I voted SanwoOlu (APC) because he performed well in his first term. But I can bet my balls you can never vote an Igbo man no matter how good he is.
I would have voted for Peter Obi & GRV, if I had a PVC and lived in Lagos State. Just to send a message to APC that they need to give us their best. I would not have been upset by GRV's loss because of his sparse CV. My vote for GRV would have been a protest vote against APC.
PoliticsAn Apology To The Igbo People Of Nigeria by Seun(mod): 3:39pm On Mar 20, 2023
Dear Igbo People,

I sincerely apologize for allowing a toxic political banner advert which said, "Lagos can never be run from Anambra; go and vote" to run on Nairaland for several hours on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

The mischievously worded banner advert appears to have been part of an ethnically divisive political campaign aimed at securing Lagos State for the ruling party by instilling fear in Yoruba people, making them believe that Igbo people intended to "take over" Lagos State.

Such ethnically divisive political campaigns have no place in a forward-thinking democracy, and for this reason, the ad should have been taken down instantly. No harm was intended, but my lack of forethought about the ethics of that type of advert led to a disappointing outcome.

We should have had a clear policy against accepting negative and ethnically divisive ads on Nairaland, we should have communicated it to all advertisers, and we should have taken down any advert that violated that policy instantly. This will all be in place before the next election.

We made almost N16,000 from the ad. We will double it and donate it to victims of political violence in Lagos.

Please, do NOT give up on Nigeria. The times are challenging, but TOGETHER, we will overcome.

Sincerely,
Seun Osewa.

Misterdhee1:
Exactly. Kinda funny how someone with a 40 year old with limited professional experience just wanna ride on discontent with the ruling class to power. The resume flying around on the internet shows that dude has only worked twice in his life - both times as an intern. That’s mediocre at best for an MIT graduate.
The main thing is to have leaders who actually listen to what we need. The actual running of the state govt is done by the Lagos civil service.
PoliticsAsk Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) Any Question About His Lagos Governorship Bid by Seun(mod):
Peter Obi's defeat of Tinubu in Lagos during the presidential election, and the defeat of many PDP/APC/APGA senate and house of reps candidates by Labour Party candidates have allowed many Labour Party members and supporters to believe that it is possible for the Labour Party to seize control of Lagos State from APC by defeating Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu in the 2023 governorship election of Lagos State.

The man of the moment, who has been tasked with achieving this feat, is Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, also known as GRV. He's a MIT-trained architect, activist, and a politician since 2017. He has agreed to answer your questions about his bid to be the next governor of Lagos State. Please feel free to ask any question and also like and share any question that you want him to answer, so that it will not be missed.

I'll set the ball rolling by asking a simple question:
* Why did you leave architecture for politics after practicing in UK and Nigeria?

PoliticsSanwo-Olu On His Plans For Youths & Peter Obi's Lagos Win by Seun(mod):
Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State was interviewed on Arise TV this morning. Here's an interesting segment from the interview:

Reuben Abati: Somebody sent a message, said Labour tsunami has forced Sanwo Olu out, to start talking to the media. And I guess the person was referring to the fact that the presidential candidate of your party lost to Labour in Lagos State. The question, what is the lesson that you've learnt from that, and you've taken away from that, particularly with regard to how young people of Lagos State voted on February 25.

Sanwo-Olu: It's an interesting discussion, and we need to look at it globally because a candidate who is the president-elect now will have looked at the map of Nigeria. Clearly, Lagos is one of his bases but for him to have won that election he probably would have looked at Lagos and looked at the Big K's, which is kano, kaduna and katsina. interestingly, all of those 4 states didn't go favourably for him.
So, it is beyond even Lagos, it's too look at the election and how it has turned out, and that's what even historians and political discussants need to also further dimension.

But, for us we've been able to identify and look critically into what went wrong... The muslim-muslim ticket played a role because we knew that Lagos is also the center of a lot of Christian population... and we have the information, so it's there.

The other reasons are, some people said that from their own ethnic nationality this is the first time they are having their son on the ballot so he's good, he's not good, na our pikin. I'm going to go ahead and [vote for him]. So we cannot fault anybody, that's the beauty of democracy.

The third reason is that we ourselves have our own internal wrangling and we have our own internal issues that we were not able to resolve or we hadn't resolved fully before we went into the election. So, in my view these are some of the things that have indeed affected [the election]

You've also mentioned the issue about the youths. It's also not something that we should play down on. But for me the real conversation is if we claim that Lagos has 6.7 million voters that have collected PVCs, why do we have only less than 20% voter turnout? So those are the main things that we need to also critique and find out what do we need to do additionally for people to want to come out and exercise their civil duty. It's a national call, not an APC or labour or PDP thing, a national assignment that we believe our citizens must be able to...

You know how well you were talking about PVC collection, extensions, ... and so, at the end of the day, why didn't they show up? So maybe these are some of the things. It's not a true reflexive. Less than 20% is not a true reflective of a total Lagosian. And that's why I'm out to ensure than a 3 million, a 2.5 million becomes a decent percentage of Lagosians that must come out to vote.

Reuben Abati: The people who came out, the problem is that they were disenfranchised by the incompetence of INEC, because we were all part of that and we all witnessed .... What plan do you have for the young people of Lagos State? Because they are very critical of you.

Sanwo Olu: Oh yes, they are my children, they are my bosses in some space because I identify with all of them at various levels. You know, it's a large number and there's no way you can satisfy every single person. I'm not the greatest person that engages social media because there's a lot of roll up sleeves that you need to get to work, but in terms of specifics, everything that we are doing is very intentional to look at: how do we get people out of the poverty market? How do we get people out of the unemployment market?

So if I do a road construction, the road construction is not for me. It's about the number of youths that are working as supervisors, as labourers, as engineers on that site. So it has a trickle [down] effect. That's how the .. actually work, right? For every infrastructure intervention, it's meant to be money for some youths who are also energetic, who can also provide for his family.

And other areas which they want, in technology for example, we are the only state in the country that has provided that enabling environment. In less than 2 years we've seen international labels, communities, organisations coming into lagos to make foreign direct investments running into billions. In fact, Lagos consistently has become the tech startup [hub] in Africa, and it's because of the enabling environment, it's because of the economy that we have provided for them. What do I mean? We've just done 3,000 km of fibre ... connectivity. That will reduce the cost of internet penetration, reduce the cost for them to have data.

There are so many of them that are living in Lagos and working for companies in the US and Canada. It's because of the speed at which their computers can work. That's what has given them that. Look at entertainment, they have so much that's going on in music. It's also because of Internet penetration. So the telcos know that we've provided the infrastructure backbone. We've provided their enabling environment. So you might not see it as a direct correlation from me, but as a direct correlation from my decision, my investment, and my policy has allowed for them to be here

I voted for Tinubu as President. I would have voted Obi but I failed to see what he did in his State as governor apart from leaving money in the Treasury. There was no achievement in Anambra State. He won't do any better as President. He will keep money, he wont not spend it, he won't steal it, but the country will not develop. So I chose Tinubu.
We are broke so keeping money is what we need right now. We don't need someone who thinks Buhari isn't wasting enough money. Also, development can and probably should be private sector driven. All the govt needs to do is create an enabling environment. Like providing power, security, etc. The talented people of Nigeria who are all over the world will take it from there.

If anyone thinks nigerian problems will automatically disappear overnight because one man wins elections then you are either delusional/deceived. The issues Nigeria is confronting takes a consensus of the majority of citizens acting in a focused manner over a stretch of time to fix it. Hence nobody on the ballot is the solution.
Some people are ready to make some changes while others just want to continue the status quo. That's what the election is about.

PoliticsVote For The Candidate Who Will Perform Best As President by Seun(mod):
Fellow Nairalanders,

Today's presidential election is very important. We've experienced economic stagnation & contraction due to both external and self-inflicted factors. We've experienced an epidemic of kidnappings and violent deaths due to banditry, terrorism, ethnic clashes, and separatism.

According to various presidential polls, We are faced with a historic three way race. Any one of them could win today, which means that you don't have to worry about the spoiler effect. Instead of voting for the lesser evil, you can vote for the best candidate of the 3.

I therefore urge you to consider the responsibilities of the presidency - improving the economy, securing the nation, strengthening our democratic institutions, reforming the legal system - and pick the candidate who is most likely to perform excellently if he wins the election.

Vote for someone who will appoint the best Nigerians at home or abroad to their administration. Someone who will unite the country. Someone who understands economics. Someone who has the physical & mental vigour required to handle the toughest job in the country.

Don't vote for a mediocre candidate just because you think the best cannot win. Vote for your best. This time, your vote won't be wasted.

Thank you, and good luck to Nigeria!
PoliticsCBN's Naira Note Confiscation Is Illegal - Fashola by Seun(mod):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skmqHLZnb7A?t=680
Fashola appeared on AriseTV this morning to clarify his comments on the CBN's naira redesign policy. He said that the CBN Act doesn't support a confiscation of our old currency but a 1:1 swap of old and new currency. He also accused AriseTV of being biased in their coverage.

Fashola: What has happened in the purported exercise of the Central Bank Act, especially section 20 where it talks about redesigning currencies, it gives powers undoubtedly to Central Bank to undertake that exercise. My understanding of that provision, because I've read it again and again, and what it suggests to me, my interpretation of that section of the law, is that if you choose to redesign a denomination A, say the 100, the 500, or the 200, every time I produce a 200 you must give me a 200. Every time I produce a 1000 you must give me a 1000 back, until that currency denomination is eventually taken out of circulation. {Cash swap is} the word used in the act. So what has been done here has no legal basis. That is my view.

On a cold and calm interpretation, if the law says that you can only take two steps, if you take 4 steps, you have violated the law. Once you're a creature of law. So as I said, let me be clear again, the central bank clearly has powers under section 23 to redesign currency, but that process is a swap. Not to say bring all your money. The law didn't envisage that at all. And to that extent, it is outside the law.

So when I sit down and listen on TV, some people say it is causing pain - understandably, we are all united about the pain and discomfort it is causing - but some people, some media houses seem to have a vested interest in supporting that exercise. I'm wondering what their investment even in their partisanship may be, in an investment in illegality.

The question we should even be asking ourselves is :- the authorization to redesign and swap, approved my Mr President, does it include an authorization to mop up money? Does the Central Bank Act [support it?] Because it's one thing to have an authorization on the fact of the letter of the law and then proceed to do something that is contrarian to law, which is what seems to have happened in my own view.

We will wait for the Supreme Court to determine [how the situation should be resolved]
