Good afternoon Nairalanders! I currently work in a company in Nigeria that has international branch in US. I am thinking of resigning soon. I want to apply for a visiting visa to united states to visit my cousins who have been there for many years now. I am thinking if I am granted the visa and locate the company over there and apply for any vacant position, do I have any chance of been given the job, even if i dont have a work permit? or is there a way the company can help me get the work permit? The job I plan applying for over there is a security officer job. Pls I need advice.

She is coming to visit me in Nigeria soon with her mom and relatives ane they will be staying for weeks or month. So we can all get to know each other and know my family too. What are the things we should do during their visit? Should we do engagement ceremony( my friends want to wear aso ebi ) How do I gather proofs that our relationship is genuine? Any ideas on topics to discuss on our first date? Be yourself and if this is your first meeting, I don't think it's wise to propose, let them enjoy Nigeria, I'm sure they will come back for visit.

Travel with both passport, you have nothing to worry about, your new passport will be stamped while the visa on the expired passport is valid.

I see you are now changing the premise of your argument. We all knew before now that having a relative in the States is a minus in B1/B2 visa application just as we know that being single is also a minus. But if the applicant can adequately prove that he or she has sufficient ties to Nigeria, (s)he will be granted the visa regardless of whether he or she is single or has a fiancee in the States.

Having a fiancee in the States shouldn't be an automatic denial. Thats my argument. I'm also of the view that telling all B2 applicants who has a USC fiancee that he or she should rather apply for K1 visa is very wrong. This may not apply in some cases.

Now let me paint a scenario and seek your advice. Imagine a well travelled guy who has been to the States on vacation several times and for business over the past 5 years. In his penultimate visit, he happened to meet this very beautiful girl with whom he started off a relationship with and proposed in his last visit to the States. Now his visa is expired and he wants to renew so that he can visit his heartthrob and He intends telling the VO the truth when he goes for his visa interview. They don't plan to get married yet. Do you recommend he be granted the B1/B2 visa?

Bros he will apply for tourist visa no need to including visiting his fiance so far he does not have any plan to abscond aka Japa.

A Fiance is a relative going by US Embassy definition. It's different from boyfriend and girlfriend I agree. It's in the same category as parents and siblings. I've seen people whose siblings and/or parents are USC and yet got their B1/B2 visa approved. Same should be for Fiance.

I don't understand your point here. And by the way, anyone who does traditional or court wedding in Nigeria isn't eligible for K1 Visa. He or she should rather apply for Spousal Visa (CR1)

True and that was an oversight but most time they advise most applicant to apply for K1 visa.

Option a, b, c and e are activities that are done during "dating". So I wonder why you say two people who are in love can't "date" in the US.

I believe they can "date" as long as the Nigerian can prove that (s)he has no immigration intent. It's the same kind of proof that someone whose relative (mum, dad, siblings, etc) is based in the US is required to provide in his/her visit visa application. Nothing different.

Have been a silent follower but I need assistance and guidance, have always loved Miami from seeing it in movies like Calito way,Parker, me and Marley. Just to mention a few .
So have managed to convince hubby to apply for a B1/B2 for family vacation with our 8 months old son he would be older by November when we want to go on the trip also we've not gone on our honeymoon so its more like vacation and honeymoon.

Your passport name won't be a problem, I will advise you to make sure you visit another country in case of denial of visa, not saying they will deny you but have a back up plan so that when next you apply for U.S visa it will be easy.

Benin Republic trip should never be mentioned since the trip was never stamped on her passport, as per funds no need for her to worry but she must be the sponsor not her friend.

Good day everyone! I need contribution of traveling experts on this. My mom has a US white citizen of her age bracket planning on inviting her over. The said woman has been to Nigeria couple of times.
My mom family ties she can boast of is her husband, her children and grandchildren. She recently retired and will start earning her pension next year so her account is not bogus to sponsor herself. The white woman in question has agreed to sponsor her with her own account. I will like to know her chances of getting the visa and what needs to be included to make the application scale through. She can apply but what is your mom travel history like? when applying she must state categorically she's visiting her friend, who visited her severally in Nigeria from U.S and she's returning the favor, this and her status as senior citizen should swing it in her favor.

Have you traveled out of Nigeria after the denial? Normally they will expect you to use the travel budget/expense to travel to another country (Backup) incase of U.S denial.

I have an appointment for an interview in Lagos embassy 9 days before the scheduled conference. I don't really feel too comfortable going for an interview on the 1st of August for a conference that will start on the 9th and yes this is my first time applying and I definitely have no travel history.


My parents were planning on sponsoring my trip but my mum's sister stepped up and wants to sponsor my trip. She lives in the US, what are ur thoughts about editing my DS 160 and letting them know my aunt will sponsor me. The only tie I have is that I will be called to the bar pretty soon. I'm not gonna live my life long dream to run away in the US. So pls, what do u all advise, be plain honest and let them know that I know someone in the US (my mom's sis) and that she will be the one sponsoring this trip or just leave it the way it is that my my mom is paying

What value is the conference to your current life and you need stronger ties to Nigeria, I will advise you to convince your aunt to sponsor you for conference in another country in case U.S reject you.
