all circumsision originated culturally and provides ZERO HEALTH BENEFITS (including male circumcision) God made us and our private parts the way it was. Plus we evolved that way. There is a reason the male organ has foreskin over the tip. I would not be suprised if soon they find out that circumcision actually leads to detrimental issues. Why not shave our eyebrows when we are born or remove the nails of our fingers when we are born? I mean I could create a new religion that has that as one of its customs just like the jews did in the old testament where male circumcision comes from. Its funny how people think male circumcision is kosher. The Old Testament says alot of things like it is ok to own slaves and that a child should be stoned to death for disobeying their father. How come so called CHristains pick and choose what they want to obey in the bible. You either believe the bible is the word of God and follow it or you do not. If we still went by eveyrthing the bible said, especially in the old testament, Nigeria would still be a british colony and slavery would be alive and well in the world today, afterall it is justified in the bible. Female circumcision, like male circumcision is pointless and a useless cultural custom. That someone said male circumcision prevents the spread of aids shows their ignorance. |
man alot of people do not even know how a fiat money system works. This is really sad. People think reprinting a piece of paper to read a different number is going to change anything in our economy? I see a huge scam where the elites cash in their millions for an equivalent number of new naira while the rest of the populace does real conversion. The rich become richer and the poor stagnate. That will be the result of this government sanctioned 419 scam. |
and contrary to the OP, I am a Nigerian in the USA, check my IP, I live in Maryland and I post on my UMD account So calling me a NINCompoop is not only a daft insult but is non applicable to me. But if being in the USA I am makes you feel superior or look down on those back in Nigeria then more power to you, I like to think those in Nigeria are as equally resourcefull and hardworking and smart as us living in the West as it is no joke to eck out a living in present day Naija. |
And rereading the first couple of pages in the thread I posted about Nigerian Citizenship thread, it hit me how elitist Nigerians in Diaspora really are. There are people in Nigeria 100 times smarter than me, that choose to stay in Nigeria and struggle through living daily life in Naija. It seems most people that find their way to the West, have a "better than thou" attitude like somehow being in the West puts you at an advantage or makes you smarter than your brethren still in the motherland. Again I will argue it requires more smarts and strength of character to carve out a living in Nigeria and some may argue coming to the West is actually taking the easy way out (some not I though). You guys like me here in the States or other Western countries, please, stop the looking down of those back home. They are not stupid or lesser than us and you are not a genius or smart alek for finding your way to the West. Even Mexican Laborers with no education can make it to the USA and carve a living and make enough money to get a lease on that Benz or Audi that you snap pictures of and send back home to give the illusion that you are living it up in the states. shango your argument is baseless and shallow as a deep sea. did you graduate from college? are you familiar with immigration law? do you know what DUAL CITIZENSHIP means? don't just wake up after drinking OGOGORO and start yabis.I suppose when you assumed i was in Naija such a comment was perfectly ok to make. My brother has Dual Citizenship having been born in the States. So thanks for the pointless insults and pointing out the obvious. are you surprised? we have been submerged by members of the "i love Nigeria" brigade of hypocrites.I do love Nigeria. Obviously you have disdain for her. Its ok though. I mean its ovbious you long abandonded your home country. @doyin and lovemajek - I know, it just upsets me, people tar every diasporan with the same brush and I want to know what would possess them. I hope its not jealousy?Jealousy, haha, because Nigerians in Diaspora are living like Kings right? Way to look down on your fellow Nigerians. Elitism is a terrible thing. They may single handedly be responsible for the lack of progress Nigeria may make if the diasporans feel they can't return or invest without returning. I jsut don't know, it saddens me, it shouldn't but it does. It's like going home and your brother saying 'get out of our fathers house, your sister insulted the new carpet and u don't live here either so you are no longer part of this family'. Is that not painful?Sorry but I am infact a Nigerian in diaspora and unlike you I chose to see reality for what it is. Mexicans send money by the boatload back to Mexico while working here in the states as laborers for the most part. Yet Mexico is poorer and less developed than Nigeria. And we as Nigerians send even less money than they do so where is this magic dvelopment or reinvestment of Nigerians in diaspora's money coming from. Its bullcrap. Nigeria will only develop and fly from within, NOT FROM THE OUTSIDE. No country has ever developed from the outside, it has never happened AND IT NEVER WILL. So the myth that Nigerians in diaspora will use their supposed new found knowledge and enlightment gotten from the West to better Nigeria is A MYTH. All I know is that the people who speak the worst about Nigeria in my presence are those who live there. I suppose if you secretly want to leave your country, but can't, it is painful for others who have managed to do so to turn around and tell you how rubbish the place u currently stay is. So I understand the bitterness,Man, this guy really thinks being able to come to the West is like winning the lottery! Man, good job for you oh, you where able to make it the land of the free and home of the brave all by your own. Want a cookie now? |

Those who visit foreign nations, but associate only with their own country-men, change their climate, but not their customs. They see new meridians, but the same men; and with heads as empty as their pockets, return home with traveled bodies, but untravelled minds.its funny, the English and other Western Europeans are the most guilty when it comes to this. And Mr. Colton was no exception. Who but an American for example, epitomizes the last part of that quote. A white American is the last person to visit a country and NOT go to the local macdonalds or starbucks looking for the same enclaves that existed in his home country. I went to a Catholic jesuit highschool here in Maryland and one of our priests has spent his sabbatical in Nigeria, and you know how he summed up his experience there, "the food was lousy, I couldnt wait to get back to the states." There goes your Traveled bodies but untravelled minds. We Nigerians, we try all sorts of foods here in the States, we put on coats and ties and read Western Newspapers and experience everything uniquely American. Attend American colleges and schools which teach the most xenophobic foms of topics form history to political science from a wholly Eurocentric perspective. If anyone is guilty of being a traveled body but n untravelled mind, it is NOT a Nigerian in diaspora. |
do people even know how currency works and what redomination means? Making 1 dollars suddenly equal 1 naira doesnt change the inherent value of the currency. All re-domination is good for is it reduces the amount of naira we have to carry around so that something that costs 500 naira before can now be purchased for 5 naira. So you do not have to carry 100 bills of 5 naira or 5 bills or 100 Naira. It changes nothing in the economy. Hell we can make 1 dollar equal 0.2 kobo. It doesnt mean in the international market our currency is suddenly superior. Or that your kobo is worth anymore. Its like switching from measuring the length of a 6 year old child from centimetres to feet with the age of the height of the child being the Naira and the child being the Nigerian economy. Redominating to feet measurement means a certain number of feet translates into a greater number of centimetres. That doesn change the inherent length of the child until the 6 year old grows to an 8 year old and increases his height. Wether you measure him in feet or inches the 6 year old child is still "so so and so" tall. So till our Nigerian Child (Economy) grows up measuring it in feet, inches, centimetres or millimetres just results in different denominated measurements for the SAME EXACT LENGTH (monetary value). |
well if we just limit citizenship to a status then my argument will be moot to you. If you guys keep getting stuck on that point then we cannot even move forward in this discussion. Just know that people in the intelligence field for example can acquire 10 to 20 passports for any country they wish and on paper would be afforded the same protection as any legal citizen due to their status on paper. I suppose we can call such undercover operatives true citizens of 20 countries as well. I guess this discussion is over then |
it is a birthright until you adopt another countries citizenship it is not so hard to understand. Being a US citizen and holding on to your Naija passport, working, paying taxes and re establishing your roots in the US, can you say with a straight face you are still a citizen of Nigeria why do we like to delude ourselves |
again you missed the point. Italian Americans and Irish Americans celebrate their native holidays every day even though they are 3 or 4th generation Americans. Parading down New York with a Nigerian flag is showing you are a citizen now? That is how being a true or good citizen is measured now? By parades? And we are not talking about what the government defines as citizenship or the requirements for hold dual passports. Again you missed my points entirely. I have pointed it out several times yet you continue to remain blind. Again I (not Nigerian government) consider citizenship more than holding a passport and Nigerians should think this way as well. Citizenship is more than having status, being a true citizen is in one's actions and how it benefits the country they are a citizen of. |
once we get sex workers/prositutes/immoral women and put them down or execute them or lock them up for life Nigeria will be great again. This has been the root of Naija's problem. The immorality of our women. Once this is fixed we can return to the first world status and become the Industrialized nation that we should always have been. Mismanaged funds and government theft of the countries revenue starts with exposed clevage and scadily dressed sluts. I am glad our government is finally taking action. |
bo bo, if you read my original post properly you would have realized I said being a citizen is more than holding 2 passports. Because Nigeria lets you hold dual citizenship doesnt mean you are a real citizen of Nigeria. Being a citizen comes from actions not the status pieces of bound paper give you. That you missed that point of my argument is a damn shame. You killed it by not getting the main thesis of my original post. A damn shame. |
I read CHxta's post and there is much he got wrong. A whole lot. The difference between Nigeria and states like Western Europe and the USA is they developed themselives internally. They werent created by outside forces. No one drew the map of the US they created it on their own. Nigeria is a country with a Moslem North, Protestant West and Catholic East. It is a State also split along ethnic lines geographically as well as Linguistic wise. These are FACTS not backwards thinking. There is no succesful state that has such divisions. A Nation needs uniformity in certain aspects and Nigeria has none. You cannot adopt the artificial constructs placed on a country by outsiders and create a great nation. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED AND IT NEVER WILL. Great nations arise internally. From our name to our borders, those where given by outsiders. Great nations are created through revolution. ALWAYS. Your solution of picking yourself up by your bootstraps is farcical. What do you think people do day in day out in Nigeria or in Diaspora every day? You think people in Nigeria do not work hard enough for a living? That they just let their areas flood because they are stupid and just dig their head in the stand. That is the sound of an elitist. And to think the person advocating this change in attitude and grab yourselves by the bootstraps attitude IS NOT EVEN IN NIGERIA BUT IS IN THE WEST. Talk about hypocrisy of the highest magnitude. How is earning a Masters abroad and making money abroad helping Nigeria? Why not bring your earned smarts or degree and come back to Naija and put it to use building a bussiness to rebuild infastructure that our government isnt providing? Please name your bussinesses doing such as you claim that is the way out and not politics. Or will you give the old tired excuse that "I am working on it" or "Someday Soon" ? Nigerian Elitism is one of the major factors keeping Nigeria back. Chxta has it in spades, its disgusting. |
excellent points ell77. But I gotta say other citizens buy Naija products as well. Plus there is nothing like propelling your country by physically being there. Strength in numbers I say and I gotta say, a whole lot of Nigerians have abandoned Nigeria, a whole lot. We are undoubtely the most in number of Africans in the USA compared to any other African nation, bar none. And alot of the people living are smart resourceful people (and those that say are smart and resourceful as well ofcourse, to survive in Nigeria takes as much wit, strength and smarts and resourcefullness than starting out in a so called First world country like the UK, US or other Western Nations if not more.) But don't get it twisted, people work here in these Western Countries, I will even go far as to say people are slaves to their jobs in the USA for example. You think about not having a job for 1 month or even 2 months. There goes your house payment, car payment, credit card bills and so on. The American dream is a dream for most people, very VERY few people strike it rich in this country so all your hard work mostly goes to propelling THIS COUNTRY (I am using USA as an example ofcourse) and its economy and industry and infastructure. Perhaps I should change the topic and say NIGERIAN CITIZEN. I know most Nigerians are proud of their heritage and descent and I apologize if anyone took my topic to mean you where not Nigerian by blood. I simply meants as a citizen. |
Does a mouse cease from being a mouse any longer since it chose to vacate its hole in search of food on a chop-enriched planation?See I do not mind questions or well thought out responses to things I post. But to think the response from people who disagree is to hurl insults, it is a testament to their limited mental faculties and inadeqacies at arguing or counterarguing. Wow, see all the sheep come out of the barn and all they can "bah" is insults. Way to show your intelligence there. There is a different between being a Nigerian Citizen and being of Nigerian Descent. I specifically gave the example of the Italian who comes to America and by adopting American citizenship renounces his Italian citizenship. That his country may or may not have dual citizenship laws DOES NOT NEGATE THE FACT THAT HE IS NO LONGER AN ITALIAN CITIZEN. You start having children in the USA, you start restablishing your family and roots and paying taxes to another country, you work for US corporations, travel and purchase US products, HOW ARE YOU A CONTRIBUTING CITIZEN TO YOUR MOTHERLAND ANYMORE? You are still of Nigerian/Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa/whatever descent but you are no longer a citizen. I am not talking about culture or ethnicity or norms here. Little Italy for example is probably as Italian as most Italian towns in Italy. BUT THEY ARE NO LONGER ITALIAN CITIZENS. Lookup what it means to be a citizen. It is more that having a FUCKING PASSPORT. I could get Lebanese or Somlaian passports, does that make me a citizen? ANd you know what is funny, me that is making this argument, I am a permanent resident in the United States. So there goes all your insults which assume that I am a Nigerian looking down on those in Diaspora. I AM AN AFRICAN IN DIASPORA. Does that fact still change the truth of what I have said? The problem with us Naijans is we can never look at ourselves or our actions critically. We just put blame on everyone else. Does a mouse cease from being a mouse any longer since it chose to vacate its hole in search of food on a chop-enriched planation?maybe with what I have said you can see why your question is irrelevant to the points i have raised. A mouse doesnt have citizenship and being a Nigerian Citizen is very different from being of Nigerian Descent. One connotes a status or state THAT ANYONE CAN ACQUIRE the other denotes ethnicity and "race"/descent. There are people of European descent that have Nigerian citizenship. It makes them Nigerian citizens. They are not of NIGERIAN DESCENT. See the difference? My point is simply if you no longer contribute anything to your former motherland you should not criticize it. Either you put up in solving Nigerians problems or you shut up. Coming to other so called 1st world or wealthier countries will never, WILL NEVER improve your motherland, it just does not work that way. If it did Mexico would be a better place than India, and Mexicans send back more money back to Mexico while working in the USA than any Nigerian ever can, partly due to geography. I mean can we think critically and act like we can deduce logically and argue like we are not animals without hurling insults while not addressing any of the points raised. I mean damn. |
anyone who spends 200+ dollars on an Operating system for HOME USE is a sucker. There are free operating systems like Unix and Microsoft is making billions selling the same shit for 200-400 dollars? They did that for China cuz he chinese do not give a damn, they pirate anything and everthing. When Microsoft stops selling what should cost 50 dollars for 200 maybe people will not pirate it. I'm like Paw Paw, I dont buy most software, and certainly NOT microsoft. |
I mean I am seeing a few threads in here talking about Nigerians in Diaspora and how they bad mouth Nigeria. And it is sad because most Naija people in Diaspora have actually become British or American citizens. Such an act should automatically disqualify you for even criticizing your home country. Its one thing to work and live in another country but once you take up citizenship there you should not even be considered a Nigerian anymore. When Italians and Polish and Greeks moved en masse to the USA in the early 19th century once they became citizens they became AMERICANS. An Italian American is an American of Italian Descent. He is no longer an ITALIAN. You do not see Italians making comments about Italians in Italy or Italy. Why? Because they have adopted a new country so their focus is and should be on their newly adopted country. Its one thing to have been forced out of Africa through slavery for example or warfare or conflict and you are looking to reconnect with your motherland. But to voluntarily leave and take up citizenship elsewhere then start talking about your abandoned homeland with disdain and criticism from the shores of another country while contributing nothing is borderline insanity. So Africans in diaspora with foreign citizenship. FOCUS ON YOUR ADOPTED COUNTRY AND BE THE BEST CITIZEN OF YOUR NEW COUNTRY YOU CAN BE |
no no no toshman no!shows how much you know. The USA is more socialised than Naija right now. It has socialised education, fire department, military, Healthcare (though not universal), works, transport, the list is almost endless. Naija is on the brink of unfettered capitalism. Companies set up shop, hire who they want and destroy our enviroment without regard to the regular citizens. They bribe our politicians and disregard the few laws we have because we do not enforce them. ALl African nations are like heaven for any multinational corporation to operate in. Now that you know this how is unfettered capitalism helping our citizens? Are you enjoying the fruits of your labor? Is the average American living with a myriad of socialized services less of than the average Nigerian who lives in a society where capitalism has gone wild? Many people like to think that USA is capitalism gone wild. If capitalism went wild in Nigeria most of the population would become peasants overnight. The last time capitalism went truly wild in this country the USA there was a GREAT DEPRESSION that a socialist president called FDR had to fix by mobilizing the US government to provide numerous social services to propel the US economy forward (called the New Deal) Capitalism run wild is part of the reason Nigeria has the most sought after export on the planet yet is a so called 3rd world Nation. Ghanians without oil are better of in Ghana than your average Nigerian in Nigeria. Aint that some sh*t |
can you name one Nigerian Multi Millionaire, just one, that made his money without doing wayo? Just one. At least Oprah did not do any fraud to make here millions. Noone can say the same for any Nigerian multimillionaire. |
Besides, Nigeria supports dual citizenship, you can be of Nigeria AND of another nation as well.Sure. On paper. The reality on the other hand is bollocks. Visiting your family members back home on vacation once a year doesn't make you a Nigerian citizen. |
people that moved out of Naija and restablished residence in places like the West and got green cards and citizenship. Are those people Nigerians anymore because they go back to Nigeria or they still hold on to their Naija passports? If Nigerians in Diaspora say such things you should not even be viewed as Nigerians. Abandoning your country and adopting another countries way of life and citizenship status should mean you really aren't Nigerian anymore. You might be of Nigerian descent but you certainly are no longer Nigerian. Ofcourse I firmly believe Nigeria deserves even more criticism than it receives. Not from outsider ofcourse as most of the time they do not even know where Nigeria is much less what life is like there. But any Nigeria in diaspora who has become a citizen of another country should focus their criticism on there newly adopted country as they essentially abandoned their former motherland by claiming another countries citizenship. And man, adconline, I could not have even come close to saying it as well as you put it. How can any leaders come out a country where significant population of its best and brightest are fleeing the country, looking for a way to flee the country or just trying to live day to day. You know its no coincidence that all the failed and 3rd world countries of the world are those that did not draw their own borders but had their borders drawn for them. Where there is no national unity there is no national purpose. Naija is a failed state much like most black countries around the globe. When the people of Nigeria are finally motivated to create new states/countries from within perhaps we will see change. |
you people need to learn to read, did I not say everyone does 419? My point is that the bulk of it are Igbo. And being a drug kingpin is not 419. Trafficking drugs is a different crime from 419 which is fraud. 419 refers to money scams not drugs. |
You had that Duke fella, excellent honest politician, ran his state very well. ANd look how far he went. You will never ever see an Igbo president in the "country" we call Nigeria. Ever. If you think there is a chance that an Igbo person will ever be president then you must not know Nigeria at all It is like saying that the USA will someday have a black president. Blood will be shed before that happens. |
its no secret that most 419 is done by Igbos. Not that other tribes dont do 419 but the bulk of it is done by Easterners. |
thanks for spreading such knowledge. Just like most people dont realize a significant part of Egypts history consisted of Black Pharoahe's, history which is usually whitewashed by Westerners. |
I went to Sacred Heart in kaduna and live there over a decade Anyone who lived there remembers Polo Club and Jacaranda. Living there was cool cuz it was so laid back, and quiet. Very unlike Lagos. |
paddy lo wins lol, nice shit. Dont know what your delivery is like but you deserve to at least ghostwrite, if not spit for an official label. Dope shit. Got five on yo bitch booty. .bwahaha, dope shit. |
Read history of the USA Mariory. For every life Saddam took the USA has been responsible for 100X more loss of life. They have proped more governments, fought more wars and killed more millions than any other nation combined. If anyone wanted to criticize Saddam for being a murderer the last nation should be the USA or Israel (the inventor of modern day terrorist tactics). Thats my point. Plus what you say Saddam did gassing the Kurds and so on, the USA has done the same through secret assasinations and proping dictators around the world that hey knew would murder millions. Different ways o achieving the same result (i.e. wholesale murder of innocent people). |
Timothy Mcveigh was a christian? Please show us which church he attended and when he claimed to be one. Its not enough to make noise and try to appear learned. What do you know about Christian teaching really? Sounds like very little to me when you boldly assert that Mcveigh was a christian.go to the page on TImothy McVeigh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_McVeigh In there you can see direct quotes where he professed his belief in God and being raised a Catholic by both his catholic parents. Before you say something isnt true READ SOMETHING AbOUT THE ISSUE. You obviously know little to nothing about McVeigh to claim he was not a Christain. Shows your incredible ignorance. Who said anything about Cheney or the other people you mentioned. Way to GO OFF TANGENT and not stick to the issue. Typical of you Bush supporters. Again, same fascist tactics. SO again where is the coating of untruth in anything I said huh? And yes, Bush essentially did say he is fighting the war on terror (though not directly) by saying his advice and guidance on what he does in office was inspired by God. Maybe you can read that statement as something else since he didnt say directly that God told him to attack Iraq but one can infer such and that would not be unfounded. Afterall he executed the Iraq war as President and as Commander in Chief and has said on numerous occasionas God guides his decisions. How the Bleep is not that a Christain fundamentalist using his office for religious action? And I NEVER SAID being passionate about Iraq makes you a Christain. Jesus, way to just make leaps of logic and try to cloud my precise arguments. You start clutching at straws when you cannot directly counter the facts and solid arguments I make. Its comedy at its best really. Nice try. How do we know what you posted are "facts"? By merely believing your very words? When you say Timothy Mcveigh is a christian you understand why its difficult to believe anything that dribbles out of your mouth.I just posted a source for that Fact. I can post numerous more if you want. Or better yet do a search on google for newspaper articles on the issue. Unlike you who spews bullcrap I can back up everything i say. Yep he definitely was not in league with alqaeda, he was only paying the families of al qaeda suicide bombers as an anonymous donor. Again quality, mate!ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Yes. Nice how you said Saddam funded Al Qaeda as an anonymous donor. Ahahahaha. Classic right wing tactic. Ofcourse I suppose when I ask for proof you will either say the source is anonymous or the Bush admin said so and as such such a blatant lie cannot be supported with credible sources. Your lame attempts at trying to promote the Bush admins lies is disgusting. You do it so poorly. Even the Bush admin doesnt claim such nonsense anylonger yet their staunch supporters still keep recycling lines that they did like 3 years ago. I ask for a source or proof Saddam aided Al Qaeda and your response is "Anonymous Donor" Are you on crack? Is that proof? Just your say so. How about this. You are in league with Al qaeda. Davidlyan gave anonymous donations to Al-Qaeda on September 10th 2001 right before the WTC attacks. That makes you a terrorist davidlyan. Now prove you did not. See how easy it is to make anyone a terrorist in this day and age. Now the onus is on you to prove you where not an Anonymous donor to Al-Qaeda. I will love to see how you prove me wrong. |
I wasn't surprised, I've learned not to expect intelligent discourse devoid of childish insults from certain categories of people. Enjoy yourself my brother. There is nothing childish about calling a spade a spade and an idiot and idiot. Saying someone is having an existential meltdown without knowing what that means and using terms in the completely wrong context does not consitute "intelligent discourse." Most of what you spew cannot even be classified as discourse much less that of the intelligent kind. Timothy Mcveigh was a Christian? Some people here have even labeled Hitler a christian - about anything just to spew more propaganda that suits their warped views. The only problem is most of these claims have no proof. He was a Christian. Just like Bush. Being a Christian doesn't mean you do Cristian acts. Bush says he is a CHristian yet he started a global war on terror which is the very antithesis of Christian teaching. There is no propaganda in anything I said. You on the other hand are full of propaganda especially when it comes to your potent Zionism. You search so hard for truth in the above lines and you come up empty. How can you search for truth from facts. What I posted are facts. Their truth are self evident. Its like saying I am searching for truth in the fact that the earth revolves around the sun. Its a fact. Just because you keep on repeating the same rehashed anti-Bush propaganda with unnecessary aggression doesn't make it true.Again, Saddam was not in league with Al=Qaeda is an indisputable fact. Only a slowpoke will claim and still claims otherwise. And claiming otherwise IS PROPAGANDA like you just did. Again its like you saying the earth doesnt revolve around the sun and saying the 99% of people that believe the otherwise indisputable fact are spreading propaganda. See how silly you sound? |
Yes that explains why Hausa language is the EASIEST to learn and the most widely spoken in all of West Africa. If you believe that Kano has 1 million more people than Lagos and the North has double the people that the South of Nigeria does (i.e. you buy the latest Nigerian census figure) then perhaps that silly claim that Hausa is the most widely spoken in all of West Africa is true. But we all know that is complete bollocks. |
