Okie so this BOA thingy got me thinking.
1. How do u fund the account?.
Do u lodge in cash which I surmise you got from ur PTA (wch is ur case is $4k)... If u did, then haven't that defeated the point that u wanna do self (cash) payment.
2. Reviewing the bank charges and monthly charges, correct me if I'm wrong (because I got no clue on weda dis boa guys have got ATM surcharges) but comparing the resultant charges on the BOA card and the fact that you have grossly moved ur cash in hand into credit balance with the bank doesn't that have its own negating effect as it is.
3. If u are eventually going to fund it from ur own account by intl swift transfer I bliv u are gonna yet be paying the same bank charges wch u were running away from in the first.?!
Firstly, the cash/self payment package in the hospital doesn't necessarily mean paying in hard cash. I think its better termed upfront payment. U can also use ur card, swipe and use d debit option or count out the cash; Whichever way, as long as the hospital gets paid immediately.

I think most people open bank accts in order to avoid keeping or carrying around so much cash. Its also easier to use for online shopping et al - than 1 naija bank saying I can't spend more than $300 or so. My wife travelled with over 8k and I got her to open the BOA acct but when I hear say the minimum bal. na $1500, fear grip me... shocked shocked. plus if ur bal goes less than that in a month, u get charged around $7. They also opened a savings acct for her too. Anyways, I'm going to go into the bank on mon to talk to them cos my sis (who has had an acct for over 3yrs) doesn't abide by the min bal thingy and she doesn't get the monthly charge either

I'm not sure oh, but I don't know of any individual that funds their amelica acct by swift transfer from naija.. I'm sure the bank charges r ridiculous (as usual). Most peeps jst bring in d cash and deposit it

we thank God that it all ended well sha , even though they made our iron firsty cry... undecided
U should describe that bad belle woman in MMA so that every1 will look out for her

As for me, got tired of waiting for cheap united ticket to go join wifey... Bought the expensive ticket like that sha angry and flew direct to houston last week...
Both flight and poe were uneventful - just the way I like it cool. At 1st I didn't want to tell the CBP officer that I came for the birth of my child in order to avoid unnecessary questioning ... but when she asked what I'll be doing in houston for so long (4 weeks), I just told her jare (after initially jst saying vacation). She just nodded & asked how we were going to pay - told her and then she advised against accepting medical aid.

Congrats to every1 that has recently had successful poe & VO stories and also to queen nefertiti 4 the near-completion of her expedition - I might also need the contact for that etc oh...

@olokings, I see you - No mind those dubai people jare, dem dey find who dem go use do scapegoat 4 their lipsrsealed wey pai.....

FinanceFitness:
On this boredom issue - if there is no medical reason to travel early and you have the heart, there's no point rushing to the US - especially if you plan to be honest at POE.

If you're gangster like me, travelled late and had my baby 3 weeks after arrival (flew delta - so no restriction) - I had week 1 to rest and the other 2 weeks spent shopping. Leaving when my baby is 4 weeks - 2 weeks for postpartum relaxation and adjusting to baby, 1 week for document processing, last 1 week for final shopping and off I go home!
@Financefitness, I remember ur POE experience. I also remember thinking 'this woman get mind oh' shocked shocked when reading it. Like u said above, a person needs to have heart & be gangster like you cool in order to attempt it. Unfortunately/fortunately for my wife, she doesn't possess the required combo, so make she dey bask in the boredom small grin while me I chill here with my bottle of cognac which she would have otherwise gone to hide wink

Your wife should register with uber, for now it's the cheapest mode of transport without stress. The metro buses here have specific hours it berths at each stop so not advisable.

I have visited houston zoo, the galleria and so many shopping malls here that my host that has lived here for over 15 years hasn't had the chance to visit smiley

Let me suggest places for her; the galleria, West Oaks mall, West chase shopping center, houston zoo, houston museum and aquarium are also close to the zoo, memorial city mall etc. She can use GPS to locate their exact miles/minutes drive from her location to have an idea of the distance cost.
Thanks @firsttymum, favouredgal & shrekandfiona for the uber suggestion. I had already told her to give it a try but she's not really a techie person so shes kind of reluctant... Anywayz, i guess when shes bored enough she'll jump on it otherwise she'll hold on till my coz finishes with his exams... Cheers all
