You're correct, Nipost or post-office in other countries in Europe, one can do lots of things there, like sending Western-union, Money Gram, etc, but dat of their Nigerian counterpart is nothing to write home about, you post letter via Nipost today to Europe or US, it will take 4-5 months for it to arrive @ its destination, dat's if not even declared missing in transit/action grin
I beg to differ. I post items to UK and US via Nipost and I've never had an incident where my item got missing in transit and the items get delivered within a week at the most. Try using registered mail or EMS to send your item; though I'll suggest you use registered mail because it is cheaper and you can also track your item till it's delivered just like that of EMS but, EMS delivery is faster.

PoliticsWe Won't Import Fuel Unless CBN Provides Forex,' Oil Marketers Tell FG by shevon(op): 4:14pm On May 21, 2016
Dimeji Akinloye | 21:56 | 20.05.2016

The marketers said except the CBN provides foreign exchange to import fuel, the recent subsidy payment they received from the government will remain in their naira accounts.

Oil marketers on Friday, May 20, lamented that they are unable to import fuel due to the unavailability of foreign exchange.
The marketers, under the umbrella of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DPPMAN), are appealing to the Federal Government to assist them in making foreign exchange available.

They made the plea during a meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, and attended by Chief Executive Officers of 46 major oil companies in the country.

The agenda was to discuss salient issues affecting the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.

Chairman of DAPPMAN, Dapo Abiodun, told the minister that members of the association finding it difficult to convert some of the naira payments made by the government to dollars.

He said their inability to convert these payments from the Federal Government from naira to dollar is making it almost impossible for them to meet their obligations to their foreign partners.

He said while the oil marketers will continue to do their best in importing petroleum products into the country, the unavailability of foreign exchange might make it challenging to achieve such objective.

The Federal Government this week announced that it has paid the oil marketers N48.2 billion minus value added tax as the arrears of outstanding 2015 subsidy claims.

According to Adeosun, the payment is to enable the marketers import petroleum products and meet up their other financial needs.

Abiodun however said except the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) provides foreign exchange to them, the payment will remain in their naira accounts.

He said: “We want to thank you for the recent payment of about N42 billion but we want to emphasise the fact that this naira payment will continue to sit in our banks.

“We look forward to dialoguing with you as to how you can help us expedite the sourcing of foreign exchange to liquidate our exposures to our foreign bankers that we have line of credit with.

“We are very worried about going into a new dynamics in which marketers are now going to be sourcing forex at the rate that they can find, which we have approximated to around N285 to a dollar.

“We believe that it is a quick fix solution to all the epileptic supply of petroleum products in the county.

“However, we still have this naira sitting in our account from previous transactions and we are worried that if anything happens to the rate of exchange officially, we are going to be caught in between.

“We do not want to come back to you to ask for foreign exchange differentials which issue we still have pending from previous transactions.”

Adeosun said the recent subsidy payment released to the oil marketers is one of the liabilities inherited from the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

While expressing optimism that the reforms currently being implemented in the oil sector would restore confidence in the market, she said assured that government will continue to ensure the availability of petroleum products in the county.

PoliticsNIPOST To Issue Passport And Driver’s Licence by shevon(op): 2:25pm On May 17, 2016
Abuja – The Minister of Communications, Mr Abdur-Raheem Shittu, said the Federal Government planned to turn the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) into a mega conglomerate offering various services.

This is contained in a statement by the Head, Public Communications, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) in Abuja on Tuesday.

It reported that the minister said this while receiving the Acting Director-General of BPE, Mr Vincent Akpotaire , who was on a courtesy call.

“NIPOST would be offering services in e-Commerce, e-Learning/Library services and issuance of the Nigerian passport and driver’s licence plus other security documents,’’ the minister said.

Shittu said that the government was poised to constitute a technical committee to proffer solutions to the issues militating against the postal sector.

The group would also present a policy direction to harness the economic potentials of NIPOST.

The minister acknowledged the significance of reforms to the communication sector and the key role of BPE in sector reforms, saying that the bureau would be included in the committee.

He expressed optimism that an all inclusive participation of all stakeholders would steer NIPOST towards harnessing its commercial potentials.

Shittu urged the bureau to carry out research on the Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd (NIGCOMSAT) and come out with the best options to either commercialise or privatise the company.

“This is based on revelations that it is under patronised and has only one signal.“

Responding, the DG of BPE, acknowledged the yet untapped potentials of NIPOST.

Akpotaire said that NIPOST, though in near disappearance, had sufficient assets to generate economic and commercial services.

According to him, in view of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy, NIPOST could begin skeletal services within the scope of the resources set aside by the CBN.

He noted that through the vast postal network available to NIPOST, it was equipped to deliver financial services to remote areas currently excluded by financial institutions.

To facilitate the process, Akpotaire said that the Bureau would present a comprehensive proposal to the minister within a week.

The DG said that the BPE would liaise with the National Assembly to harmonise the bureau’s proposed reforms with the privately sponsored bill on the postal sector before it.

He called for an independent regulator for the sector to update services and ensure transparency as well as position NIPOST to compete favourably with other concerns in the sector.

Most insurance companies are like that. Something like this happened to me with Mutual Benefit, mine wasn't life insurance though.
What the marketer told me turned out to be false and when I decided to close the account because I found out the were just decieving the public, they calculated and told me what I'm entitled to is less than half of what I contributed. When I asked why, they told me the other would go for "charges", which was never mention in my policy or was explained.
Even at that, they still refused to give me the cash, I had to go and make trouble at Aret Adams House, where their head office was located, before they paid me.
Never again will I save money with any insurance company as long as there is a functional bank.
OP, I feel your pain. I'd advise you speak with a legal practitioner to know what your options are. You might even get a chance to get all your money back.
FamilyAlleged Killer Husband Speaks From Hiding by shevon(op): 6:28am On May 09, 2016
https://d1phczbdxyh8yo.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/09024342/Shonde-couple1.jpg

The man who allegedly killed his wife in the Egbeda, Lagos area, Lekan Shonde, has told PUNCH Metro that his wife, Ronke provoked him by describing vividly how her lover slept with her in a hotel in Abuja.

Lekan, a depot worker in the Apapa area of Lagos State, said his wife of eight years changed after she allegedly started dating the general manager of a publishing company.

The Abeokuta, Ogun State indigene, said he regretted marrying Ronke, explaining that his late mother had warned him against the union, but he never listened.

Our correspodnent had reported that Lekan and his wife, Ronke, lived on Tiemo Close, Off Awori Street, in the Egbeda-Idimu area.

The marriage, which was blessed with two children, aged six and four, was said to have been marred with domestic violence.

The crisis culminated in the death of Ronke on Thursday, after which her husband fled the house and locked up the children with their dead mother.

He said the last time he beat his wife was three years ago after a disagreement, saying he had never touched her afterwards.

He said, “Since I married my wife eight years ago, she has never bought anything into the house. I gave her N5,000 on Saturdays and N3,000 on Tuesdays for soup. I also gave her money to make her hair.

“She was working with GTB as a marketer, but she got sacked three years ago. For that period, I was the one feeding her and taking responsibility for everything in the family. I would wash her pants, bathe the children and buy foodstuffs in the house. She later got a job with a publishing company owned by her uncle.

“But my wife changed sometime in March, when she started dating the general manger of a publishing company. My wife was going to the office from Monday to Sunday and she wasn’t going to church again, all because of this man. She called him ‘Eyitemi’ (My own).

“Last week Friday, she went to Abuja and came back on Monday. She never told me that the lover was there with her. I learnt later that the lover was there and they slept together in the same room for four days.

“When she came back, she didn’t know I was inside the house. She started talking with the man on the phone that he really had fun with him and I didn’t know how to make love. She again said her private parts were paining her.”

He said he confronted his late wife and she confirmed that she was dating the other man, adding that she asked her to concentrate on a relationship.

Lekan said his wife refused to leave the house despite his insistence on her leaving.

Recounting the incident of that night which led to her death, he said they had had an argument over money.

He said, “It was around 9pm on Thursday. We had paid our nanny N20,000. Then we needed to pay our children’s teachers N30,000. I discovered she had taken N20,000 and when I asked her to return my money, she said she had spent it.

“I was angry because for the past three months, she didn’t allow me to have sex with her. I pushed her hand away from me on the staircase and I left her. She never tumbled or fell. In fact that night, I bought the food that we both ate because she said she didn’t want to cook.

“I didn’t know anything had happened to her until Friday when I saw her on the staircase. I thought she was still pretending. I just left her and walked away.”

Asked why he shut the gate against his children, he said he never did, adding that it was his son that closed that gate.

Lekan also denied taking the victim’s phone away, saying he left it on the bed.

He said he had no reason to kill his wife, adding that he bought her two cars and always provided for her needs.

He said, “Jide, her family’s second child lived with me for three to four years. Their eldest daughter, Bolatito, has lived with me too.

“Although I am not a saint, I don’t drink, I don’t smoke. I am a responsible man. The problem with my wife was that she was temperamental. She shouted at me whenever she talked.

“I am a Lagos boy and I can be in this Lagos for the next 30 years and nobody would see me.”

Meanwhile, Ronke’s sibling, Bolatito, said their mother had just arrived in Lagos from Ilorin, Kwara State, adding that the family would not want to talk about the incident yet.

Our correspondent gathered that Ronke’s brother and the second born of the family, died in a ghastly motor accident in Abuja.

Bolatito, who is the first born, is the surviving child of three children.

She said, “My mother just arrived from Ilorin and the family wants to devote time to attend to her; we don’t want to talk about the incident. I am not in the right frame of mind to talk.

“But all I want to say is that her husband is somewhere out there and has been calling. The police should reach out to the telecommunications company to know where he is. He called me and he said he wanted to see me.

“He also said he wanted to see his children and I should tell him where they are because we might never see him again.”

The aunt of the victim, Bunmi, explained that the suspect had been threatening suicide, saying their mother had forgiven him.

She said, “Mummy is very sad with this, but she has forgiven him and does not want him to commit suicide.”

A family source told PUNCH Metro that the domestic violence had been on for some time, saying at a point, the matter was reported at a police station.

He said the suspect always accused his wife of extra-marital affair.

He said, “He always beat her because of his belief that she was into an extra-marital affair.

“The beating reduced a bit when the wife of her late brother who was one month pregnant before his death, moved into the house with them. She stayed for about eight months. She was like her saviour.”

The Convener of the Women Arise for Change Initiative, Mrs. Joe Odumakin, while condoling with the family, said the group would pursue the case till the end.

She said, “I am shattered and heart-broken. Their mother had been a widow since they were all little and she has lost two of three children in less than one year. And it is hard to believe that the killer husband has been chatting with people, asking to see his children and blatantly lying that he only slapped her.

“Neighbours must learn to intervene when they hear unusual noise. And women, who are in abusive relationships, must speak out before it is too late. Lekan should come out and submit himself so he could be tried in a court, where he will have the chance to prove his innocence.”

NB: Lekan spoke with PUNCH Metro on the telephone line provided by his in-law, Bolatito, which was also confirmed by the police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos.

BusinessRe: The Nigerian Naira Failed To Respond To The Euphoria That Came With The Signing by shevon: 7:49am On May 08, 2016
helpee:
there is nothing magical about it. Simple economics. It just shows the investors dont trust the budget . When news break, currencies all over the world react either positively or negatively. For example, if they believe the signing of the budget will strengthen naira against dollar, speculators holding dollars will want to sell in anticipation of rise in naira. Investors can inject money into the system in anticipation of govt spending for their products and services. This can happen in minutes self. It has nothing to do with implementation. So, if the naira is not excited the budget is signed, it means investors dont believe in your budget and that is not too good a news
Chief, let's revisit this Economic Principle by close of business next week and see what happens, not judging by a budget that was signed mid-day on Friday. You talked about investors injecting funds in minutes, was it not the same investors erroded confidence that subject the NGN to its current stress level (added to our own insatiable greed for everything foreign and some people's want to make quick bucks) did that still take minutes to make naira go from what it was to what it is now? I am a certified economist and I know what I'm talking about.
By the way, are you making your postulation based on the fact that you actually ran a "real" market survey of currency trade on Friday after the announcement or where you just specualting based on what the OP posted?
BusinessRe: The Nigerian Naira Failed To Respond To The Euphoria That Came With The Signing by shevon: 7:07am On May 08, 2016
A budget that was signed when? How long did it take for NGN to slide from N218 to the present rate? 3 days?
I keep saying this and I always will, I don't belong to any party but we Nigerians are the architect of our present predicament. We always want magicians as policy makes and if Professor Pella had contested for any political office, we'd not have cast one vote for him.
This write up is premature as far as I'm concerned.
