True. The younger Peter Rufai was way better than any of our goalkeepers. In his later years he battled injury and was even more of a part-time "professional'. He was a student on his graduate studies in those days when there was no ONLINE classes. zoghys: Where and when was he voted for the Africa best keeper ever. His he better than halandry of Egypt, abeg stop joor. Rufai I know from his days at Otto Gloria stationary stores till his Advent into super eagle is better than Vincent. Vincent has quality players if not better than rufai's era, expect you say the likes of Mikel, agbahowa, okocha at a time, Ahmed Musa, obafemi martins among other where not good enough. For me, rufai is better. E.O.D |

FuckingMachine: Vincent Enyeama
None of the others achieved half of his feats. Rufai was a basket so don't even try that rubbish. Rufai benefitted from being part of Nigeria's most gifted set ever and every time the ball got to him, a goal was sure to be conceded. The 70/80s set were just nostalgia. If they were so good how come Nigeria didn't qualify for any World Cup in their time winning only ONE AFCON?
Vincent Enyeama hands down abeg. I agree on the older Peter Rufai (his first national team call-up was 1980/81). He was dragged back into the team in 1994 and 1998 based on past heroics. On World Cup qualification and 70/80s, keep in mind that Africa had just ONE world cup slot until 1982 and just TWO slots until 1994 and it was almost always 'last minute' heartbreak for Nigeria until our first qualification in 1994. It was a truly fierce competition for ONE or TWO slots in those days. I don't think our current team stand any chance in such scenario today. Our 1994 team's performance across the previous 4 years was so good that Nigeria was rated No.5 on FIFA ranking. Nowadays, we struggle to qualify for the world cup even with FIVE slots. |

OlujobaSamuel: It's FHA (FG) that is demolishing the houses, just like Ajao estate, it's not the state govt. Aside buildings with structural integrity, the only place Lagos State Govt has demolished of recent (after election) is on the Island, the one that happened in lekki (ikota) This FHA demolition is moving to Gowon estate too soon, I passed there and noticed that so many buildings have been marked. Those ones too go start making noise that it's Lagos State when the demolition starts You won't hear them now! I see those marks in several places and people won't say anything now, they simply ignore or start looking for who to bribe, until government decides to act. This is not restricted to Lagos, you see those marks everywhere and people simply ignore it claiming 'no law in Nigeria' until they suddenly have to face reality. |

Exactly. Don't mind our ITKs here. okoroemeka: for him to speak out like this shows that he has had enough, there are reasonable demands and quite frankly there are the ridiculous one, there was this my uncle that was a director in FIRs after Mr Fowler,he was very wealthy no contest,he gave me money once and I squandered it,since then I don't have the face or shame to ask again because I know many people will stand in life with such money,,and moreover there is a 90% probability that he will refuse,so why bother |

That was not his point. He was addressing his frustration with people who chose not to do anything meaningful even after getting help. Give him some credit, he is not a fool who can't see the basic things that you could see. He never implied he doesn't need family, he addressed entitlement mentality. Many rich families are proud of what they all achieved together with everyone working hard to sustain the wealth. Jamie1000: Entitlement aside, we only feel like we don't need family when we become rich and privileged. If you feel like you don't owe your family members expecially your blood help or assistance to get them in a better place in life, you're nut. Where's empathy? Tomorrow, your kids might the one needing help. Self centred generation. |

You are smart. Just dey observe. Obi hit raw nerves with many of them. They are mad at him. When you see them use the word "stingy", you know those are the chairmen/women of entitlement . gr8child: The thing about Nigerians is that when they are shamed for having bad character they start fighting the person that gave true criticisms instead of looking inwards and looking for how to change their ways for the better. If you are ashamed of someone exposing your people for their entitlement mentality then you need to face the people who are behaving badly not the poor man who is suffering it. |

As a Nigerian, I can relate with your comment but how come most other cultures don't have this type of mentality? simplepee: You guys don’t get tired of this topic, year in year out.
There’s nothing wrong when a parent suffered to raise their kids, birth them, cloth them, train them and do everything to see them attain the point of independence and then expect to be taken care of by these children. It doesn’t even have to be your parents, it is proper to show gratitude to whoever took care of you.
It is only a demonic child that will have and not give to the people that sacrificed their comfort for his/her well being. |
Career › Re: Should Children Be Their Parents' Retirement Plan? by Shikena(m): 4:22pm On Nov 15, 2023 |
Thank you! We opted for the resident carer option for my parents. The company sends them on 3 months rotation and they live comfortably in house with the old folks. The carers are mostly fresh graduates trying to raise some money while looking for better job. They are all well screened by the company. Just do your research as I'm sure there are many of such companies growing across Nigeria. Nigerians need to start embracing these options. For serious investors, it's also a good growing market in Nigeria and it solves a major problem especially for those in diaspora or too busy in the big cities in Nigeria. In fact no matter how small, people should explore ways to start saving towards their own carer cost while still young so you are not fully dependent on anyone. delpee: Sometimes, a child's circumstances makes it difficult to give adequate attention to parents. However, there are social welfare organisations now that manage the elderly. You can have resident carers or opt for a well managed old people's home. Most parents (if not too lonely) are happier and do better being cared for at home by trained carers. Not random househelps please.
In addition, health insurance takes care of medical matters. All they need is to jointly arrive at the best option and raise funds to carry out their plan.
A good child who is unable to visit regularly or accommodate a parent can opt for this. Good parents sacrifice a lot to look after their children. Abandoning them in old age isn't fair. Even if they're rich, being in touch with them and providing meaningful advice helps them to live a good life notwithstanding old age challenges. |
