Yes, he will succeed though the initial decisions are tough on everybody. The govt and the people will definitely get more and more creative with ways to get around the sweet-bitter pills of the oil industry. Many giants will rise from this in no time, we are that creative. Okealaaye: That's the President of the Giant of Africa doing it as it should be done. Happy days are here again. |

If you patronize Nigeria and put your money where your mouth is more than I have done in my life then you have done very well for yourself. I don't blame any "our leaders", the leaders are from the pool of the masses. If you on Nairaland become one today, I expect nothing different. I will gladly spend my vacation anywhere I feel, Africa or elsewhere. Caribbean countries are not white people's land bro. Primusinterpares: Zero patriotism on your part. Going on a boat ride from your river ethiope to umutu is nothing and rubbish. The whites rubbish everything African and you join them in doing so. You ain't different from our leaders |

headboyprince: which enjoyment is in nigeria if I may ask.. A country filled with war, hunger, bkackouts, potholes, bad internet, inflation, book haram, criminals, kidnappers has no enjoyment.. Reason why people go abroad and no one comes to Nigeria for vacation ..
Use your brain Na ignorance dey worry most of them. Many Nigerians abroad now prioritize real vacation instead of that "patriotism-driven" so-called enjoyment in the midst of many entitled sufferheads in Nigeria. By real vacation, I mean Carribean, European & similar cruise trips and also all-inclusive or regular destination trips to nice globally acclaimed locations. What people face in our airports alone is enough to say goodbye to the mess. |

Gokoyer0: With that salary in a place like Canada, the tax deduction will not be less than 37.5%. Can people in USA verify tax deduction on 120k USD salary?
Op, dey play dey play. They say you can earn 10k USD/month. Ask them what will be your take home from it. How much are you going to pay for rent in place where get 10k USD/month job? Let him go to LinkedIn/Quora and ask questions from gurus in his field who are blacks/Nigerians. He comes to Nairaland to be more confused.
Japa is for strugglers! My neighbor that left for UK in 2021 has returned with his family. They sold their bungalow before they left and returned few months ago into a rented 3 bedroom apartment in another area. Many don't have the courage to do what this family just did. For instance, I learned that to renew 2.5 yrs visa for a family of 4 will spend around 15k pounds.. For a single guy earning 120k, he is in the 24% tax bracket but like everything American it is not as simple at that. He is not paying 24% to IRS though he may pay other taxes including state tax along the line (you will see the direct impact of your tax on your life, your community, even your airports). Back to the tax. His tax on 120k will come down to $22,680 (19%) That is $16,290 plus 24% of the amount over $95,375. Keep in mind that he is also accumulating Social Security income for his later years in life. His checks are waiting for him in future. In addition, most organizations have 401k matching which means he gets extra thousands in free money for investing part of his income into his future. He also has access to traditional and ROTH IRA. Data has shown that each year he contributes, say $6k, yields him $60k per annum in 20+ years time. |

twosquare: Don't mind him...he doesn't know the worth of a software engineer and how much they really earn...a quick google research will fix that and want to stay in inflation-ridden nigeria where people are being driven into extreme poverty. Instead of him to have both advantages, come do vacation for Naija if he like this place so much. Don't mind our people. Isn't that what smart people have been doing for ages? There is a reason why diaspora remittances is a huge chunk of our economy, even the struggling still find it in their hearts to send money home. How many at home are of any use to people around them when needed? If he is the investor type, then after some years he can move his base to Nigeria and tap into investment opportunities. To those saying the rich are staying in Nigeria, yes a wealthy person can stay anywhere in the world, even in Niger Republic or Chad and live comfortably. |

Just don't listen to anyone who has never stepped out of Nigeria. Open your eyes very well so you won't turn to motivational speaker in 10 years time because of missed opportunities. If you can develop yourself to earn $3k monthly from Nigeria, you are the type that will make it anywhere. It is up to you. People suffer everywhere because a cat in Nigeria cannot become a Lion in America or UK. A lion in Nigeria is still a lion in Canada, US or UK. I won't advise on UK though. |

Well put. We need to hear Oby Ezekwesili's current take on this. Tinubu has done exactly what she regaled about on her social media post 6 years ago. LegendHero: This is just like Oby Ekwesili proposed in 2017.
I think Nigeria itself as a country is confused. Before now, we’ve always heard several theories of how subsidy will go, how NNPC monopoly need to go, how there should be full deregulation in the petroleum sector, how market force must decide petrol price, and how they should allow multiple marketers to import the product.
Almost all the above have been implemented by Tinubu. However, the pain that comes with it is unbearable for Nigerians.
This is now where it gets interesting. Almost everybody that was against subsidy removal during Jonathan government are now supporting subsidy removal and Vice versa.
Almost everyone that quoted economic theories about how subsidy is a scam and bla bla bla are now quoting economic theory to say subsidy shouldn’t have been removed, it should have been removed slowly, and etc.
Lastly, if I am Tinubu, I will never back down from this subsidy removal. That is very counterproductive. I would rather focus on more palliative deployment whether it is commodity, minimum wage, tax cut, increase agric yield and etc. I rather spent 3 trillion on these than continue with Subsidy. |

Ma'am, I see your point but that was not my intention. I was just kidding and used a random figure to drive home my point on free market, but I understand some of our people don't understand and may think you are overpricing your product. I will delete that part of my initial post. realestawe: You just want to have the last word by grouping you, me and IPMAN together. As if. My car price is negotiable as stated clearly. That of IPMAN is not. So yes I felt attacked when you authoritatively mentioned the car should be no more than 2.3m! Won't argue with you though. |
