KEEPING THE LAW DOESN’T SAVE U Galatians 2:16 - Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Avoid strivings (efforts, contend, struggling to keep d law) about the law tit3:9 Behold, I Paul say to U, that if U be circumcised, Christ shall profit U nothing. For I testify again 2 every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor 2do d whole law. Christ is become of no effect 2U, whosoever of U are justified by d law; U are FALLEN FROM GRACE. For we though d Spirit wait 4d hope of righteousness by faith. Gal5:2-4 -6 Being justified freely by His grace through d redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God has set forth 2b a propitiation (appease, conciliate, make peace) through faith in His blood, 2 declare His righteousness for d remission of sins that are past, through d forbearance of God; To declare, at this time His righteousness: that He might be just, & d Justifier of him which BELIEVES in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? Nay: but by d law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without d deeds of d law. Rm3:24-28 But that no man is justified by d law in d sight of God, it is evident: for, ‘The just shall live by faith’. Gal3:11 Romans 3:20 - Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin. Did U receive d Spirit by d works of d law, or by d hearing of faith? Are u so foolish? Having begun in d Spirit, are U now made perfect by d flesh? Gal3:2-3 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. Gal6:15 He that ministers 2U d Spirit, & works miracles among U, does he do it by d works of d law, or by d hearing of faith? Gal3:5 If righteousness come by d law, then Christ is dead in vain. Gal2:21 Galatians 3:21 - [Is] the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. It is one God who will justify d circumcision by faith, & uncircumcision through faith. Rm3:30 Law could not bring perfection heb7:11 Law is carnal commandment heb7:16 Now d righteousness of God without d law is manifested, being witnessed by d law & d prophets; even d righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all & upon all them that believe…Rm3:21-22 The law is not of FAITH. Gal3:12 The Law IMPOSED on them could not make them perfect heb9:9-10 THE LAW MADE NOTHING PERFECT, but d bringing in of a better hope did ; by which we draw near to God heb7:19 There is therefore now no condemnation 2 them which are in Christ Jesus. For d law of d Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from d law of sin & death. FOR WHAT D LAW COULD NOT DO, IN THAT IT WAS WEAK THROUGH D FLESH, God sending His own Son in d likeness of sinful flesh, & for sin, condemned sin in d flesh: that d righteousness of d law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after d flesh, but after d Spirit. Rm8:1-4 What shall we say then? That d GENTILES, WHICH FOLLOWED NOT AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS, HAVE ATTAINED TO RIGHTEOUSNESS, EVEN D RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH IS OF FAITH. But Israel, which follwed THE LAW OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, HATH NOT ATTAINED to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? (Y?) Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by d works of d law. For they stumble at that stumblingstone. Rm9:30-32 Acts 15:5 - But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command [them] to keep the law of Moses. Acts 15:1-41 - And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, [and said], Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. |
LAW ABOLISHED Brethren, my heart’s desire & prayer to God for ISRAEL IS, THAT THEY MIGHT BE SAVED. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, & going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto d righteousness of God. For Christ is d END of d LAW for righteousness to every one that BELIEVES. For Moses describes d righteousness of d LAW, ‘That d man which does those things shall live by them’. Rm10:1-5 Romans 6:15 - What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Change of priesthood necessitate CHANGE of d Law heb7:12 Having ABOLISHED in His flesh d ENMITY, even d LAW of commandments contained in ordinances; 4 to make in Himself of twain one new man, so making peace; & that He might reconcile both unto God in 1 body by d cross, having slain d ENMITY thereby. Eph2:15-16 Jesus taketh away the 1st that He may establish the 2nd Heb10:9 Now d end of d commandment is love out of a pure heart, & of a good conscience, & of faith unfeigned. 1tm1:5 The Law made men high priests which have INFIRMITY; but d word of d oath which was b4 d law, made d Son…heb7:28 The law was our SCHOOLMASTER to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith is come, WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER A SCHOOLMASTER (LAW) Gal3:24-25,26 There is verily a DISANNULLING (CANCELATION) of d COMMANDEMENT going before for the WEAKNESS & UNPROFITABLENESS heb7:18 Wherefore, my brethren, U also are become dead 2d law by d body of Christ; that U should be married 2 another, to Him who is raised from d dead, that we should bring fruit 2 God. For when we were in d flesh, d MOTIONS OF SINS, WHICH WERE BY D LAW, did work in our members 2 bring forth fruit 2 death. But NOW WE ARE DELIVERED FROM THE LAW, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, & not in d oldness of d letter. Rm7:4-6 Wherefore why then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; Gal3:19 Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; Galatians 2:19 - For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. Hebrews 8:6 - But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. Who also has made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of d spirit: for d letter kills, but d spirit gives life. But if d ministration of death, written & engraved in stones, was glorious, so that d children of Israel could not steadfastly behold d face of Moses for d glory of his countenance; which was 2b done away: How shall not d ministration of d spirit be rather glorious? For if d ministration of condemnation be glory, much more does d ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of d glory that excels. For if that which is DONE AWAY was glorious, much more that which remains is glorious. Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: & not as Moses, put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look 2d end of that which is ABOLISHED: but their minds were blinded: for until this day remains d same veil untaken away in d reading of d Old Testament; which veil is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, d veil is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn 2d Lord, d veil shall be taken away. Now d Lord is that Spirit: & where d Spirit of d Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass d glory of d Lord, are changed into d same image from glory 2 glory, even as by d Spirit of d Lord. 2cor3:6-18 |
YOU HAVE ALL OF GOD’S RESOURCES WITHIN YOU One Sunday as I was preaching in the 2nd worship service, I saw a man brought in with his hands & feet bound. I knew this man was mentally sick. That particular day we were making pledges for the 5th stage of our building program. Many people were receiving pledge cards & filling them out & I noticed when a pledge card was handed to this man, he received it & with his bound hand, he wrote in one hundred dollars. His wife laughed when the deacon came again to receive his card. “Don’t believe him” she said. “He’s not mentally responsible”. But after the service I met him & found that amazingly he had been completely healed by the power of the Holy Spirit that morning in the service! He was in his right mind & he talked with me. He told me he had been suffering deeply from an inferiority complex. “I had owned a fertilizer company” he began, “but I failed & went heavily into debt. I worried so much that my mind snapped. My family took me to an institution & there they gave me all kinds of shock treatments. But none of them helped me” “But as I was sitting here listening to your preaching this morning, I suddenly came out of my deep depression sickness & recognized reality. I’ve lost my friends, my prestige, & my credit. I have a mountain of debts. I can do nothing. I am nothing, but I’m so grateful that I experienced God’s healing today!” “You are something,” I told him. “You are not inferior. Since you came to Jesus now all the power of Christ & His resources are dwelling within you, just waiting to be tapped” I told him again. “What kind of job am I going to have?” he questioned me. “ I don’t know” I replied, ‘but keep on reading the Bible & pray, & you’ll know.” One day he returned filled with excitement. “Pastor, I read the verse of scripture that says we are the salt of the earth. How about my going into the retail of salt business?” “if you believe in it,” I said, “go right ahead. Do it!” So he went out & began to sell salt on a small scale. He paid his tithes, paid his pledge & continued to rejoice in the Lord. God began to bless him & his salt business grew & grew. Eventually he built a large storehouse right beside the river where he placed $50,000 worth of salt. It was in the summer, & one night it rained heavily into the early hours of morning. In the morning when he got up all of the area had been completely flooded. His storehouse was also flooded & I was concerned. That afternoon when the rained stopped, I rushed out to his store. Other articles & materials can still be found after a flood but salt has a great friendship with water. When I entered his warehouse, there was no salt left. But the man was sitting in the middle of his warehouse, singing & praising God. As I walked in, I tried to discern whether he was in his right mind or not. I went up to him & asked, “Are you okay?” “Pastor, I’m alright,” he smiled. “I’m not crazy. Don’t worry. I’ve lost everything, but as you always told me, I HAVE ALL GOD’S RESOURCES WITHIN ME. Water may have taken away my salt, but it could not take away the total resources or the presence of God dwelling within me. I can tap those resources again & again by prayer & faith. You just wait. Give me time & I’ll rebuild my business again.” It was evident he was not suffering from an inferiority complex any longer! He was full of confidence. The Holy Spirit had truly done a tremendous work in work in his life! Today this man is an elder in my church. He is a multi-millionaire businessman in the salt business. He also started a watch company. He has accompanied me to Los Angeles, Vancouver & New York as well as Europe. This man is a glowing testimony & example of how people can be helped to release their feelings of inferiority through preaching the Word of God & stressing that they have all of God’s resources at their disposal to tap their needs. YOU DON’T DO SOMETHING BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING IT. FIND OUT WHAT GOD WANTS YOU TO DO. Years ago at a Voice of Healing Convention, I heard a pastor say something that caught my attention. He was a good pastor and had established a good work. But it was in the days of revival—especially tent revivals. Healing evangelists were everywhere, and tents were everywhere. This pastor said, "If Roberts [speaking of Oral Roberts] can do it, I can do it." Was that God's plan and purpose for him? Or was it his human ego speaking? As a young man just in my thirties, I made a mental note of it and watched him to see what would happen. He left his church and got a tent. And he did it. For a little while he did it almost as well as Brother Roberts. He had a 5,000-seat tent and finally got up to a 10,000-seat tent. But then he went down, down, down. During this same time, I was also in "The Voice of Healing," but God said to me, "You stay in the churches." And I stayed in them from 1949 until 1962, until God gave me a different plan. I traveled from church to church, preaching constantly. I was in meetings ninety-five percent of the time. And in practically every meeting—I don't mean it happened occasionally; I don't mean it happened once in a great while; I mean in almost every meeting—someone would stand up and prophesy that I was to get a tent. "I've got a word for you. God wants you to get a tent." God no more wanted me to get a tent than He wanted me to fly to Mars. And I didn't get one. Why did they do that? They did it because everyone else was getting a tent. I watched many other ministers get a tent because people prophesied that they should. The tent, the minister, and the ministry folded up. YOU DON'T DO SOMETHING BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING IT. FIND OUT WHAT GOD WANTS YOU TO DO. Why am I saying all these things? Why did the Lord Jesus visit me when He did and speak to me about plans, purposes, and pursuits? It's because He wants to move again in this day with supernatural manifestations! The move of God does not just belong to the revivals of the past! You see, there was a great revival and outpouring of the Holy Spirit that started in 1906 in the old Azusa Street Mission in Los Angeles. By 1907 that wave of revival began to spread nationally and internationally. Then in 1947, forty years later, the wave of the Healing Revival started. You talk about healing! I got in on it, and to tell you the truth about it, it was the easiest thing in the world to get people healed. I have never seen anything like what we had then; it was easy to get people healed! A lady evangelist (really, she was more of an exhorter) once told me the same thing. She said, "My husband and I were in the ministry. He would play the piano and we would both sing, but I was the main preacher. We had been in the ministry for more than thirty years, but we had never laid hands on anyone in all that time. We would just hold meetings, get people saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, and exhort them a little. But when this wave of healing came along and everyone was laying hands on folks for healing, we decided we would try it too. "The first person I laid hands on," she said, "was totally blind and was instantly healed! Dear Lord, it almost scared me to death! It was the easiest thing in the world to get folks healed. It was just like healing was 'in the air.' We had some of the most miraculous things happen you ever saw in your life!" A healing wave like this is coming to the Body of Christ again. There will be miraculous healings like this in this next move of God! We need to know the wave is coming, and we need to know how to prepare ourselves to be effective in it. That is the reason I have recorded what Jesus said to me in the visitation of 1987. He said that the Body of Christ is to get His plan, His purposes, and pursue that! YOU THAT ARE SPIRITUAL, RESTORE THE FALLEN Years ago I asked a leader of a certain denomination, "When ministers miss it and fail, why isn't it handled biblically? The Bible says in Galatians 6:1, '. . . if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.' Why aren't ministers restored like the Bible instructs?" He said, "Brother Hagin, I believe many men who stumble and sin could be restored. If folks want to repent and do right, they ought to be helped. Of course, if they won't listen and won't take biblical counsel, a ministerial association wouldn't have any choice; they would have to revoke their credentials." I was concerned about this, because I knew that some ministers who failed and made a mistake could have been restored. Some of them never did get back in the ministry because when they missed it, their denomination publicized it, and their reputations were ruined. Then when everyone knew about their problem, these ministers were told, "Now go prove yourself." But after their downfall was publicized, no one would fellowship with them! And pastors wouldn't allow them to preach in their churches, so the majority of them never got back into the ministry. Why don't we restore and recover ministers who have made a mistake? Of course, if they don't want to be recovered and don't want to live uprightly before God, that's a different thing entirely. But I'm talking about ministers who want to repent and do what's right. In Galatians 6:1, the Bible says, "consider yourself, lest you also be tempted." After all, in the same circumstances, some of us might not have done as well as some of them did. But we are so quick to criticize and judge others. I was concerned about this, so I went to the Lord in prayer about it. I said, "Lord, Your Word says, '. . . if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness. . . .' I said, "Lord, it doesn't say to destroy ministers who miss it by broadcasting their problem; it says to restore them. Why don't we restore them?" The Lord answered and said, "Your answer is in that verse." I didn't see what He was talking about. I said to Him again, "Lord, why don't we restore ministers who stumble and fall?" He said, "Your answer is in that verse. Read it again." I read it again, but I still didn't see it. I asked the Lord the third time, and again He said, "Your answer is in that verse. Read it again." I said, "Well, if it is, I can't see it." Then again I read, . . ye which are SPIRITUAL __________ " I saw it! The Bible is saying, "If there are any spiritual people among you, they would restore those who have fallen — not judge, criticize, or destroy them." I said to the Lord, "Oh! I got my answer." One denomination deals with restoring fallen ministers in a way I feel is most scriptural. For example, years ago one of their ministers got into moral difficulty with one of the women in the church. He was married and so was the woman. They both repented and wanted to walk right before the Lord. The supervisor of the district came to counsel the minister and told him, "It would be good for you to change churches. We are not going to publicize this to anyone because you've repented and straightened it all out among yourselves. We are going to restore you, but it would be good for you to move to another state, and we will give you an opportunity to prove yourself." So after a time of restoration, they gave the minister another church to pastor in another state, and they didn't publicize that he had fallen. But they told the supervisor in that other state about the minister's problem, so he could be of help to this minister. They practiced this scripture and restored the man, and they put him in a situation where he could prove himself. However, this particular minister did the same thing again; he had an affair with a woman in that church too. The district supervisor went to him the second time and gave him a period of time to restore himself spiritually and make restitution. But this time he told the minister, "We will give you one more chance. But if you get into any moral difficulty the third time, we won't restore you to the pastorate again. You will be immediately dismissed, and you can never renew your papers with us." The Body of Christ shouldn't publicize everything that happens within its ranks. Things like this shouldn't be brought out in the public. Those of us in the Church should have enough spirituality to deal with these things privately within the confines of the Church. When something happens in your family, do you go out and broadcast it? No. In the same way, the Church is a family. We ought to have enough sense to know how to deal with some of these problems in the Church and help people so their lives can be restored, not ruined, and they can learn how to be a blessing to the Body of Christ. I know one minister who was used mightily of God years ago. He got into moral trouble, and the superintendent of that denomination told me, "This man's wife admitted to me that she was to blame for it. She admitted she had never been a wife to him, and it caused her husband to stumble. But she repented, and their marriage was restored." That man's ministry was also restored, and he had a fruitful ministry. You see, we ought to save people if we can. The Body of Christ should be in the saving business — restoring folks —not destroying them. You understand it's a different thing entirely if people don't want to repent and do what is right. If they want to keep on doing wrong, they will need to be dealt with scripturally. (Kenneth Hagin) Whisper this prayer with me, ‘Lord Jesus, I love You. BELIEVE RIGHT, THINK RIGHT & TALK RIGHT Once after a service, a woman came to me, and after sitting in the service and hearing faith and truth taught, she took hold of my hand and cried almost hysterically. (I'm not saying this to make fun of her. I'm just pointing out the facts.) I said, "What's the matter, Sister?" "Oh, I want you to pray for me." "All right," I said, "what is it?" "Well," she said, "it just seems like the Lord has forsaken me." I said, "What awful sin have you committed to make Him forsake you?" "Oh, Brother Hagin, as far as I know, I haven't done one thing wrong. But it just seems like the Presence of the Lord has gone from me." I said, "Now where did you ever read in the Bible where it said, 'We walk by what things seem like' ? The Bible didn't say we walk by what things seem like. It says we walk by faith. And Jesus said He'd never leave you or forsake you." "I know that. But it just seems like He has." "Well," I said, "you've got more faith in 'seems like' than you have in the Bible." "Yes, but I know what I feel." This woman almost got mad at me. I answered her, "Yes, and I know my Jesus, and I'm not concerned about what I feel. If Jesus said it, I believe it." Thank God for a motto I inherited from the Southern Baptists. I wrote it in red ink on the fly leaf in the Bible I had when I was on my deathbed. It says, "The Bible says it, I believe it, and that settles it." That means I believe what the Word says whether things seem like the Bible is so or not — feeling or no feeling. And if you'll practice that and start believing right, thinking right, and talking right, it won't be long until you'll be feeling right too. Faith must be released. In other words, you can have what you say. Your faith can move mountains for you. (Kenneth Hagin) Whisper this prayer with me, ‘Lord Jesus, I love You. WE CAN DO SO MUCH IF WE ONLY KNOW THE WORD "I never had heard anyone preach on this before. But some eight years before, I'd had an unusual experience with this verse of Scripture. I had stopped to see my mother and she'd told me I should visit my grandmother, who was very ill. I did stop to see her, but I was in a hurry. I wished afterwards I'd had a word of prayer with her. While I was at my next meeting I learned Granny had become unconscious. After preaching every night, I would go where she was, which was about 35 miles away, and stay up all night with her. The rest of the family would stay with her in the daytime. She was unconscious all the time, so there wasn't much to do except watch her in case she did wake up. One night I was sitting in the large chair by her bed and began to pray. I said, "Lord, I wish I had prayed with Granny. I'm sorry I didn't have a word of prayer with her. I know she is 77 years of age — and I can sense in my spirit she has lived her life out — but if she could just regain consciousness and I could have a word of prayer with her____" I said, "I know she never would tell a lie for anything in the world." Yet, sometimes we can see sins of omission in our loved ones. I asked the Lord, "Let me have a word of prayer with her, so I can be sure everything is all right, and I will be willing to let her go." Sins of omission as well as sins of commission are wrong. Granny had been born again in an old-time Methodist campmeeting in Tennessee when she was 14 years old. But for 40 years she'd had a serious physical condition — she couldn't hear out of her right ear. At one time she'd had an operation, but she still wasn't healed. The right side of her head always hurt, and as kids we never could jump around because she said it felt like something was pounding in her head. One time, however, some Full Gospel people laid hands on her and she was instantly healed. Three years after that, when I was pastoring a church close by, I stopped and noticed she had cotton in her ear. I asked what was wrong and she said she had lost her healing. She had promised the Lord she would go to a church nearby, and would do more Bible reading and praying. But she hadn't done what she'd promised, so she had lost it. I was thinking about these things and praying when a voice said, "WHY DON'T YOU ASK ME TO FORGIVE HER?" I was so startled I jumped out of my chair. My Bible and a book by A.B. Simpson went flying across the floor and back under the bed. I must have jumped three feet! I looked, but nobody was behind my chair. I got down, reached under the bed, and got my Bible and book. I sat back down and thought, Well, this is the third night I have sat up with Granny, and my imagination is playing tricks on me. I read a little while longer. But then I got to thinking about this subject again. I said, "Lord, just bring her out of this coma and let me have a word of prayer with her so I can believe everything is confessed — and everything is all right. And I'll just let her go on home then." Just as plain as if somebody were standing behind me, the voice said, "WHY DON'T YOU ASK ME TO FORGIVE HER?" I jumped again. My Bible went flying one way and my book the other, all the way across the floor. I must have leaped three feet out of that chair again. I picked up my book and looked behind the chair, but there wasn't anybody there. I said to myself, / know I heard somebody say that! I went back into the next room, which was the kitchen. The door had been closed, so I looked behind the door. I looked all around. And I couldn't find anybody. I went back to the bedroom where Momma was asleep, and I stood at the door and listened. I could tell by her breathing that she was sound asleep. I went back to another room where Grandpa was asleep in the back of the house, and I could tell by his breathing that he was sound asleep. Nobody else was in the house except the two of them. I checked the back door. I even checked the screens and doors to make sure they were hooked or locked. I said to myself, There couldn't have been anybody in here. I went into the living room and looked behind the couch. I couldn't find anybody. I said to myself, / know it sounded like a man's voice. I sat back down and decided, Well, this is the third night I have been sitting up with Granny and she is nearly dead. We expect her to die any minute. It's just my nerves. It's just my imagination playing tricks on me. I read a little while longer, and then my mind got back on Granny. I prayed for the third time, "Lord, I'm so sorry — You forgive me — that I didn't pray with Granny. Just let her come out of this coma and let me pray with her, so I'll be sure everything is all right. Then I'll let her go on home." And the third time that voice said, "WHY DON'T YOU ASK ME TO FORGIVE HER?" This time I didn't jump. I sat there and answered back, "ME ask You to forgive her?" And the voice said, "YES. DID YOU EVER READ IN FIRST JOHN 5:16 WHERE I SAID, 'IF ANY MAN SEE HIS BROTHER SIN A SIN WHICH IS NOT UNTO DEATH, HE SHALL ASK, AND HE SHALL GIVE HIM LIFE FOR THEM THAT SIN NOT UNTO DEATH. THERE IS A SIN UNTO DEATH: I DO NOT SAY THAT HE SHALL PRAY FOR IT'?" I told Him I still did not know what the verse meant. He said He was referring to the first part of the verse and He told me to ask Him to forgive Granny of every sin of omission. I did that, and also asked that she be forgiven of any sins of commission. I asked that she be forgiven of every wrong, fault, mistake, and failure. I asked that her homecoming might be glorious. To me, that settled it. There's nothing more sure than the Word of God. I didn't build on an experience; the experience was built in line with faith in God's Word. Eight years later, when Jesus appeared to me in a vision, He brought this verse up again. I told Him the only time I'd had an encounter with it was the time I was with Granny. He told me she had been in heaven with Him the past eight years. (Kenneth Hagin) Whisper this prayer with me, ‘Lord Jesus, I love You. I announce with my mouth that You are Lord of my life. LOVE DOES NOT SEEK ITS OWN On one occasion God spoke strongly to my heart about pastoring a certain church. The congregation wanted me to be their next pastor. But the former pastor wanted his cousin to pastor the church, so he began politicking in the church to get him elected instead. The God-kind of love has never divided a church. I could have taken at least half of those church members and started another church because many of those people wanted me to be their next pastor. But I couldn't divide a church and walk in love, and no one else can either. What astounds me is that some born-again, Spirit-filled Christians can be sheep thieves, divide churches, and steal another man's congregation, and it doesn't bother them in the least bit. Then they blame it on God, saying, "God told me to do it." But God isn't that way! Either they lied or God lied about it because God said, "Love worketh no ill to his neighbour." Anyway, I could have divided that church and started my own church with half of this former pastor's congregation. But I chose to listen to the inward man instead of to my flesh. I listened to the love of God in me, and the Holy Spirit said to me, "You just go your way and don't divide this church." So even though I knew God had spoken to me about pastoring that church, I withdrew my name from the pastoral candidates and left town. Later on, I said to the Lord, "Lord, what about that church? What's going to happen to those people?" The Lord answered me by saying, "They will suffer because they aren't in My perfect will. They listened to the wrong people and put the wrong person in as pastor. But I'll take care of you because you acted in love." Thank God, God did take care of me and in grand style too! And do you know that before a year had come and gone, God had installed me as the pastor of that church, and I didn't have a thing in the world to do with it either. God arranged it all! Sometimes people's problem is that when God speaks to them, they try to run over other people to try to make what God told them come to pass. Then they get out of love, and God can't bless them because they aren't in a position spiritually to receive His blessings. (Rev. Kenneth Hagin. E.) LOVE YOUR ENEMIES PART II "I feel that I know you, and in your writings I almost felt like you somehow knew me. I think that I owe more to you than to anyone else who was not canonized in Scripture," I continued. "You are very gracious," he replied. "But I am sorry that I did not serve you better. I was a shallow person, and my writings were shallow, and filled with more worldly wisdom than divine truth." "Since I have been here, and learned all that I have learned, I know that this must be true, but I still think they are some of the best that we have on earth," I answered. "You are right," this famous writer admitted, with sincerity. "It is so sad. Everyone here, even those who sit closest to the King, would live their lives differently if they had them to live over, but I think that I would live mine even more differently than most. I was honored by kings, but failed the King of kings. I used the great gifts and insights that were given me to draw men more to myself and my wisdom than to Him. Besides, I only knew Him by the hearing of the ear, which is the way I compelled other men to know Him. I made them dependent on me, and others like me. I turned them more to deductive reasoning than to the Holy Spirit, Who I hardly knew. I did not point men to Jesus, but to myself and others like me who pretended to know Him. When I beheld Him here, I wanted to ground my writings into powder, just as Moses did to the golden calf. My mind was my idol, and I wanted everyone to worship my mind with me. Your esteem for me does not cause me to rejoice. If I had spent as much time seeking to know Him as I did seeking to know about Him in order to impress others with my knowledge, many of those who are in this lowest of companies would be sitting in the throne that was prepared for them, and many others would be in this room." "I know by being here that your appraisal of your work is true, but are you not being a little too hard on yourself?" I questioned. "Your works fed me spiritually for many years, as I know they have multitudes of others." "I am not being too hard on myself. All that I have said is true as it was confirmed when I stood before the throne. I produced a lot, but I was given more talents than almost anyone here, and I buried them beneath my own spiritual pride and ambitions. Just as Adam could have carried the whole human race into a most glorious future, but by his failure led billions of souls into the worst of tragedies, with authority comes responsibility. The more authority you are given, the more potential for both good and evil you will have. Those who will rule with Him for the ages will know responsibility of the most profound kind. No man stands alone, and every human failure, or victory, resonates far beyond our comprehension, even to generations to come. The many thousands who I could have led properly would have resulted in many more millions here. Anyone who understands the true nature of authority would never seek it, but only accept it when they know they are yoked with the Lord, the only One who can carry authority without stumbling. Never seek influence for yourself, but only seek the Lord and be willing to take His yoke. My influence did not feed your heart, but rather your pride in knowledge." "How can I know that I am not doing the same?" I asked as I began to think of my own writings. "Study to show yourself approved unto God, not men," he replied as he walked back into the ranks. Before he disappeared he turned and with the slightest smile, offered one last bit of advice: "And do not follow me." In this first multitude I saw many other men and women of God from both my own time and history. I stopped and talked to many more. I was continually shocked that so many who expected to be in the highest positions were in the lowest rank of the kingdom. Many shared the same basic story-they all had fallen to the DEADLY SIN OF PRIDE after their great victories, or fallen to jealousy when other men were anointed as much as they were. Others had fallen to lust, discouragement, or bitterness near the end of their lives and had to be taken before they crossed the line into perdition. They all gave me the same warning: the higher the spiritual authority that you walk in, the further you can fall if you depart from love and humility. As I continued toward the judgment seat I began to pass those who were of higher rank in the kingdom. After many more veils had been stripped away from me by meetings with those who had stumbled over the same problems that I had, I began to meet those who had overcome. I met couples who had served the Lord and each other faithfully to the end. Their glory here was unspeakable, and their victory encouraged me that it was possible to stay on the path of life, and serve Him in faithfulness. Those who stumbled, stumbled in many different ways. THOSE WHO PREVAILED ALL DID IT THE SAME WAY - THEY DID NOT DEVIATE FROM THEIR DEVOTION TO THE FIRST AND GREATEST COMMANDMENT - LOVING THE LORD. By this their service was done unto Him, not men, not even for spiritual men. These were the ones who worshipped the Lamb, and followed Him wherever He went. When I was still not even half way to the throne, what had been the indescribable glory of the first rank now seemed to be the outer darkness in comparison to the glory of those I was now passing. The greatest beauty on earth would not qualify to be found anywhere in heaven. And I was told that this room was just the THRESHOLD OF REALMS INDESCRIBABLE! My march to the throne may have taken days, months or even years. There was no way to measure time in that place. To my considerable discomfort, they all showed great respect to me, not because of who I was or anything that I had done, but simply because I was a warrior in the battle of the last………. - RICK JOYNER Whisper this prayer with me, ‘Lord Jesus, I love You. LOVE YOUR ENEMIES PART III …..days. Somehow, through this last battle, the glory of God would be revealed in such a way that it would be a witness to every power and authority, created or yet to be created, for all of eternity. During this battle the glory of the cross would be revealed, and the wisdom of God would be known in a special way. To be in that battle was to be given one of the greatest honors given to those of the race of men. As I approached the Judgment Seat of Christ, those in the highest ranks were also sitting on thrones that were all a part of His throne. Even the least of these thrones was more glorious than any earthly throne many times over. Some of these were rulers over cities on earth who would soon take their place. Others were rulers over the affairs of heaven, and others over the affairs of the physical creation, such as star systems and galaxies. However, it was apparent that those who were given authority over cities were esteemed above those who had even been given authority over galaxies. The value of a single child was more than a galaxy of stars, because the Holy Spirit dwelt in men, and the Lord had chosen men as His eternal dwelling place. In the presence of His glory the whole earth seemed as insignificant as a speck of dust, and yet was so infinitely esteemed that the attention of the whole host of heaven was upon it. Now that I stood before the throne, I felt very much less than a speck of dust. Even so, I felt the Holy Spirit upon me in a greater way than I ever had. It was by His power alone that I was able to stand. It was here that I truly came to understand His ministry as our Comforter. He had led me through the entire journey even though I had hardly noticed Him. The Lord was both more gentle and more terrible than I had ever imagined. In Him I saw Wisdom who had accompanied me up the mountain, and felt the familiarity of many of my friends on earth. I recognized Him as the One I had heard speaking to me many times through others. I also recognized Him as the One that I had often rejected when He had come to me in others. I saw both a Lion and a Lamb, the Shepherd and the Bridegroom, but most of all I saw Him here as the Judge. Even in His awesome presence, the Comforter was so mightily with me. I was comfortable. It was also apparent that the Lord in no way wanted me to be uncomfortable; He only wanted me to know the truth. Human words are not adequate to describe either how awesome, or how relieving it was to stand before the Lord. I had passed the point where I was concerned if the judgment was going to be good or bad; I just knew it would be right, and that I could trust my Judge. At one point the Lord looked toward the galleries of thrones around Him. Many were occupied by saints, and many were empty. He then said, "These thrones are for the overcomers who have served Me faithfully in every generation. My Father and I prepared them before the foundation of the world. Are you worthy to sit in one of these?" I looked again towards the throne and the glory that appeared so much more beautiful that I was taken aback. Another man standing close to me explained: "With each encounter, a veil is being removed so that you can see Him more clearly. You are not changed just by seeing His glory, but by seeing it with an unveiled face. Everyone who comes to the true judgments of God walks a corridor such as this to meet those who can help them remove whatever veils they are still wearing; veils that will distort their vision of Him." I had already absorbed more understanding than I felt like my many years of study on earth had given me. I then began to feel that all of my study and seeking on earth had only led me forward at a snail's pace. How could many lifetimes prepare me for the judgment? My life had already disqualified me more than all of those whom I had met, and they barely made it here!......... – Rick Joyner Whisper this prayer with me, ‘Lord Jesus, I love You. MY HEART PANTS FOR THEE OH GOD (PART 1) I felt sure that if I would fast and pray, God would in some way speak to me, and reveal to me what stood between me and the miracle-working power of God in my ministry. I was so hungry for the power of God in my own life that I felt I could not stand in my pulpit, nor even preach again, until I had heard from God, and told my wife that this was my plan. It was then that I had the greatest battle of my life. Satan was determined that I should NOT fast and pray until God answered. Many times he whipped me or tricked me out of that prayer closet. Satan knew that if I ever actually contacted God, there would be much damage to his kingdom, and he meant to do all in his power to hinder me from making that contact. Day after day, I went into the prayer closet, determined to stay until God had spoke to me. Again and again, I came out without the answer. Again and again my wife would say to me, "I thought you said this was the time you were going to stay until you got the answer." Then she would smile in her own sweet way, remembering that "the spirit indeed is willing, BUT THE FLESH IS WEAK!" Again and again I answered her, "Honey, I really meant to pray it through this time, but -- !" It seemed there was always a reason why I couldn't stay in that closet until the answer came. I always justified myself by saying I would pray it through tomorrow. Things would be more favorable then. The Lord encouraged my heard by calling to my attention how Daniel held on in fasting and prayer, and wrested the answer from the hands of Satan, although it took three weeks to do so. (See Daniel 10:1 and 12) The next day found me on my knees in the closet again. I had told my wife I would never come out until I heard from God. I REALLY THOUGHT I MEANT IT. But a few hours later, when I began to smell the odor of food that my wife was preparing for herself and our small son, I was soon out of the closet and in the kitchen, inquiring, "What smells so delicious, dear?" A few moments later, while I was at the table, God spoke to my heart. I had only taken one bite of food, and I stopped. God had spoken to me. I knew that until I wanted to hear from God MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THE WORLD, more than food, more than the gratification of the flesh, GOD WOULD NEVER GIVE ME THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION THAT WAS IN MY HEART! I arose quickly from the table, and said to my wife, "Honey, I mean business with God this time! I'm going back into that closet, and I want you to lock me inside. I am going to stay there until I hear from God." "Oh," she replied, "you'll be knocking for me to open the door in an hour or so." She knew that so many times I had said THIS was the time I would stay until I had the answer, she was beginning to wonder if I really could subdue the flesh long enough to defeat the devil. Nevertheless, I heard her lock the door from the outside. Before she left, she said, "I'll let you out any time you knock." I answered, "I'll not knock until I have the answer that I have wanted so long." At last I had definitely made up my mind to stay there till I heard from God, no matter what the cost! Hour after hour, I battled with the devil and the flesh in that closet! Many were the times I almost gave up. It seemed to me that days were slipping by, and my progress was so slow! Many times I was tempted to give it all up, and try to be satisfied without the answer -- to go on just as I had been doing. But deep in my soul I knew I could never be satisfied to do that. I had tried it, and found that it was not enough. No! I would stay right here on my knees until God answered, or I would die in the attempt! Then the glory of God began to fill the closet. I thought for a moment that my wife had opened the door, as the closet door began to grow light. But my wife had not opened the door of the closet -- JESUS HAD OPENED THE DOOR OF HEAVEN, and the closet was flooded with light, the light of the glory of God! I do not know how long I had stayed in the closet before this happened, but it doesn't matter. I do not care to know. I only know I prayed UNTIL! The presence of God was so real, so wonderful, and so powerful that I felt I would die right there on my knees. It seemed that if God came any closer, I could not stand it! Yet I wanted it, and was determined to have it. Was this my answer? Was God going to speak to me? Would God, at last, after these many years, satisfy my longing heart? How long had I been here? I didn't know! I seemed to lose consciousness of everything but the mighty presence of God. I tried to see Him, and then was afraid that I would, for suddenly I realized that should I seem Him, I would die. (Exodus 33:20.) Just His glorious presence was enough! If only He would speak to me now! If He would just answer my one question, "Lord, why can't I heal the sick? Why can't I work miracles in Your name? Why do signs not follow my ministry as they did that of Peter, John and Paul?" Then like a whirlwind, I heard His voice! It was God! He was speaking to me! This was the glorious answer for which I had waited so long! In His presence I felt like one of the small pebbles at the foot of the towering Rockies. I felt I was unworthy even to hear His voice. But He wasn't speaking to me because I was worthy. He was speaking to me because I was needy. Centuries ago, He had promised to supply that need. This was the fulfillment of that promise. It seemed that faster than any human could possibly speak faster than I could follow mentally, God was talking to me. My heart cried out, "Speak a little more slowly. I want to remember it all!" It seemed God was speaking to me so fast, and of so many things I could never remember it all. Yet I knew I could never forget! God was giving me a list of the things which stood between me and the power of God. After each new requirement was added to the list in my mind, there followed a brief explanation, or sermonette, explaining that requirement and its importance. Some of the things God spoke to me sounded like scriptures. I knew some of them were, but those first three -- could they be from the Bible? If I had known there were so many things to remember, I would have brought a pencil and paper! I hadn't expected that God would speak in such a definite way, and give me such a long list. I had never dreamed that I was falling so far short of the glory of God. I hadn't realized there were so many things in my life that generated doubt and hindered my faith. While God continued to speak to me, I began to feel in my pockets for a pencil. At last I located a short one, but the lead was broken. Quickly I sharpened it with my teeth. I searched for a piece of paper. I couldn't find any. Suddenly I remembered the cardboard box filled with winter clothes which I was using for an altar. I would write on the box. Now I was ready! I asked the Lord to please start all over again at the beginning, and let me write the things down one at a time -- to speak slowly enough so that I could get it all on paper. Once more God started at the first, and spoke to me one after another the many things He had already mentioned. As God spoke to me, I wrote them down. When the last requirement was written down on the list, God spoke once again, and said, "This is the answer. When you have placed on the altar of consecration and obedience the last thing on your list, YE SHALL NOT ONLY HEAL THE SICK, BUT IN MY NAME SHALL YE CAST OUT DEVILS. YE SHALL SEE MIGHTY MIRACLES AS IN MY NAME YE PREACH THE WORD, FOR BEHOLD, I GIVE YOU POWER OVER ALL THE POWER OF THE ENEMY." God revealed to me at the same time that the things that were hindrances to my ministry, and had prevented God from working with me, confirming the Word with signs following, were the very same things which were hindering so many thousands of others. Now it began to grow darker in the closet. I felt His mighty power begin to lift. For a few more moments, His presence lingered, and then I was alone. Alone, yet not alone. I trembled under the mighty lingering presence of God. I fumbled at the bottom of the cardboard box on which I had been writing. In the dark, I tore the part on which I had written from the box. In my hand I held the list. At last, here was the price I must pay for the power of God in my life and ministry. THE PRICE TAG FOR THE MIRACLE-WORKING POWER OF GOD! Frantically, I pounded on the locked door. Again and again I pounded. At last, I heard my wife coming. She opened the door. The moment she saw me, she knew I had been with God. Her first words were, "You've got the answer!" "Yes, honey. God has paid me a visit from heaven, and here is the answer." In my hand was the old brown piece of cardboard, with the answer that had cost so many hours of fasting and prayer and waiting, and -- yes -- believing! My wife and I sat down at the table with the list before us, and as I told her the story, we both wept, as together we went down the list. There were thirteen items on the list when I came out of the closet, but I erased the last two before showing the list to my wife, because those two were so personal that even my wife shall never know what they were. She has never asked, for she realizes that these things MUST remain between me and God – A A ALLEN Whisper this prayer with me, ‘Lord Jesus, I love You. PUT SOMETHING IN FOLKS, DON’T TAKE ANYTHING OUT OF THEM One time a very outstanding Full Gospel minister—in fact he was a district supervisor—went home to be with the Lord. He was quite a bit older than his wife, and she was grief-stricken. My wife and I went to see her and she was virtually hysterical. I sat her down on a couch and said, "Now, you've been in the ministry with him for a good many years." She was just a girl when they were married, and he was 30 some years of age. I said, "He's lived his life out and has gone home to be with Jesus." I began to read Scripture to her. You see, the Bible says the Word and the Spirit agree. And the Holy Spirit will take Scripture and comfort you. I began to read, "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better," (Phil. 1:23). And I said, "Where has he gone?" She replied, "He's with Christ." I asked, "Well, what are you crying about?" She answered, "I don't know what I'm going to do." I said, "See, there you are, you're just thinking about yourself. If you had a son, and he phoned and said, 'Momma, the company I work for is promoting me, and I'm getting a hundred thousand dollars more each year,' wouldn't you be glad? You wouldn't start crying. You'd start rejoicing. He got an increase. Paul said, 'to die is gain.'" Before I got through talking, she was shouting. Her face lit up. She had forgotten about herself. About that time some other ministers drove up. I get aggravated at ministers sometimes when they don't tell people what the Bible says. You could hear these men crying by the time they got out of the car. They came to meet this widow with, "What are we going to do now?" You'd almost think Jesus had died. The pastors got her distraught and crying. I said, "You know, the Lord hasn't died. You all are talking about 'what are we going to do now?' You still have Jesus. You still have the Holy Spirit. He is going to put you over." All the turmoil they went through was self-inflicted. About the time I'd get things straightened out, here would come another carload of preachers. If you could just get rid of the preachers sometimes, you'd have it made! You understand how I mean that, don't you? I'm talking about the ones who peddle doubt and unbelief. Three different times I got this woman back into the Word, and each time she began shouting. My wife and I went on to my next meeting in another state. I would have liked to have stayed for the funeral, but my meeting had already been advertised. The day the meeting began, a day after that pastor's funeral, his widow called us long distance. She said, "Brother Hagin, talk to me; say that again. The only comfort I ever got, I got from you. Everybody else pulls me down and tears me apart." I told her the Scripture again. She knew it was in the Bible, but she wanted to hear it again. She said, "I could read it for myself, but it just helps to hear you say it." My wife and I talked to her long distance for about 45 minutes or an hour. That was on a Tuesday, and on Thursday of that week she called again. She said, "Brother and Sister Hagin, could I just come over there and stay with you during the meeting?" We said, "Why sure, come on over." We ran that particular meeting three weeks. She came over on Friday, and stayed two more weeks with us. She was so happy in the meetings—just smiling and enjoying the blessings of God. She said, "I'm going to be honest with you. Our own folks don't help you—they pull you down. They start crying and then I start crying. But I get around you and I start shouting. I'd rather shout than cry. I feel better shouting." We told her we were glad to have her with us and finally she said, "I believe I'm strong enough now." She went back to her home state. From that meeting we went on to another meeting, and then we went back home. She called us there and said, "Could I fly over to Texas and spend a few days with you? Back here everybody talks so negatively. I never did see it before. Everybody who sees me says, 'Oh, you poor thing. What are you going to do?'" We told her, "Sure, come on. We'd be glad to have you." If we can't put something in folks, let's not take anything out of them. The devil is already working on that. So let's not join forces with him. Some ministers of this woman's Full Gospel denomination heard she was with us and they wanted to come, too. By the time they got out of the car (and it had been four months since this man had gone to be with the Lord) you could hear them crying. Afterwards this woman told my wife, "I wish they hadn't come. They pull me right back down again." (Keneth E. Hagin) Whisper this prayer with me, ‘Lord Jesus, I love You. I announce with my mouth that You are Lord of my life. PUT YOUR FAITH TO WORK: STAND YOUR GROUND Let me tell you a story to show how He (God) will undertake for the most extreme case. One day I had been visiting the sick, and was with a friend of mine, an architect, when I saw a young man from his office coming down the road in a car, and holding in his hand a telegram. It contained a very urgent request that we go immediately to pray for a man who was dying. We went off in an auto as fast as possible and in about an hour and a half reached a large house in the country where the man who was dying resided. There were two staircases in that house, and it was extremely convenient, for the doctors could go up and down one, and my friend and I could go up and down the other, and so we had no occasion to meet. I found on arrival that it was a case of this sort. The man's body had been broken, he was ruptured, and his bowels had been punctured in two places. The discharge from the bowels had formed abscesses, and blood poisoning had set in. The man's face had turned green. Two doctors were in attendance, but they saw that the case was beyond their power. They had telegraphed to London for a great specialist, and, when we arrived, they were at the railway station waiting his arrival. The man was very near death and could not speak. I said to his wife, "If you desire, we will anoint and pray for him." She said, "That is why I sent for you." I anointed him in the name of the Lord and asked the Lord to raise him up. Apparently there was no change. (God often hides what He does. From day to day we find that God is doing wonderful things, and we receive reports of healings that have taken place that we heard nothing about at the time of our meetings. Only last night a woman came into the meeting suffering terribly. Her whole arm was filled with poison, and her blood was so poisoned that it was certain to bring her to her death. We rebuked the thing, and she was here this morning and told us that she was without pain and had slept all night, a thing she had not done for two months. To God be all the praise. You will find He will do this kind of thing all along.) As soon as we anointed and prayed for this brother we went down the back staircase and the three doctors came up the front staircase. As we arrived downstairs, I said to my friend who had come with me, "Friend let me have hold of your hands." We held each other's hands, and I said to him, "Look into my face and let us agree together, according to Matthew 18:19, that this man shall be brought out of this death." We laid the whole matter before God, and said, "Father, we believe." Then the conflict began. The wife came down to us and said, "The doctors have got all their instruments out and they are about to operate." I cried, "What? Look here, he's your husband, and I tell you this, if those men operate on him, he will die. Go back and tell them you cannot allow it." She went back to the doctors and said, "Give me ten minutes." They said, "We can't afford to, the man is dying and it is your husband's only chance." She said, "I want ten minutes, and you don't touch his body until I have had them." They went downstairs by one staircase and we went up by the other. I said to the woman, "This man is your husband, and he cannot speak for himself. It is now the time for you to put your whole trust in God and prove Him wholly true. You can save him from a thousand doctors. You must stand with God and for God in this critical hour." After that, we came down and the doctors went up. The wife faced those three doctors and said, "You shan't touch this man's body. He is my husband. I am sure that if you operate on him he will die, but he will live if you don't touch him." Suddenly the man in bed spoke. "God has done it," he said. They rolled back the bedclothes and the doctors examined him, and the abscesses were cut clear away. The nurse cleaned the place where they had been. The doctors could see the bowels still open and they said to the wife, "We know that you have great faith, and we can see that a miracle has taken place. But you must let us unite these broken parts and put in silver tubes, and we know that your husband will be all right after that, and it need not interfere with your faith at all." She said to them, "God has done the first thing and He can do the rest. No man shall touch him now." And God healed the whole thing. And that man is well and strong today. I can give his name and address to any who want it. Do you ask by what power this was done? I would answer in the words of Peter, "His name, through faith in His name, made this man strong." The anointing was done in the name of the Lord. And it is written, "The LORD shall raise him up." And He provides the double cure; even if sin has been the cause of the sickness, His Word declares, "If he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven." (Smith Wigglesworth) |
QUIT FIGHTING OTHERS AND WALK IN LOVE I was reared a Southern Baptist. I got healed on the bed of sickness as a teenager, got the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and developed a little bone of contention with the Baptists. Here I had gotten healed and I'd seen healing in the Bible, and I thought they'd be glad to know that this was right. They weren't. They would rather I'd have died than got healed, because that would have proved them right—that healing's not for us. When I got healed, it was an embarrassment to them. Here I was a Baptist going around testifying about being healed! My own doctor, who belonged to the same Baptist church I did, admitted it was a miracle. He couldn't deny it. He put it this way, "I said all the time unless a higher power intervened, you weren't going to live." I believed God's promise. I got Grandma's "Methodist" Bible, studied it, and exercised faith. My healing came about as a result of a combination of things. It wasn't just what God did for me; it involved my believing God. He responded to my faith and prayers. My Baptist pastor, however, said, "The poor boy stayed in bed so long his mind went. Healing's not for us today." He'd been taught that way. So the Southern Baptists wouldn't accept my testimony. It's easy to develop a little bone of contention toward people who won't accept your testimony. I backed up a little. I continued preaching healing, but I didn't hold public healing services. I prayed for the people privately. Then I began fellowshipping with Full Gospel people. The Baptists had warned me about them, saying that tongues was of the devil. But these people believed in healing like I did, so I fellowshipped with them. And like a fellow in East Texas said, "It's like a slippery creek bank. If you keep fooling around on it, you'll fall in." I fell in and got the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Unconsciously, I began fighting the Baptists. I never won one of them to my way of thinking, and I never got one of them filled with the Holy Spirit. I never changed one of them. You can't do it that way. If some of them came to my services and I knew they were there, I'd let them have it! But God corrected me. The Spirit of God will do that, but He'll do it in love. It happened while I was praying in tongues one day. I thought I'd been praying for 15 minutes. I found out later I'd prayed four and a half hours. While I was praying in tongues, the Spirit of God interpreted the tongues and took me over into the first three chapters of First Corinthians. This Corinthian bunch was carnal. There was envy, jealousy, strife, division, and debate among them. They walked as "mere men." Yet Paul started off by bragging on them, and he wound up by saying, "Ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's" (1 Cor. 3:23). The Lord said to me, "If it had been you and some preachers you know writing to that bunch, you'd have said, 'You bunch of backslidden buzzards ought to pray through and get right with God.'" And until that moment, that's exactly what I would have said. But the Lord said, "Paul didn't do that; the Spirit of God didn't do that. Paul found a place where he could join up with them and encourage them to grow. He told them, 'Ye are Christ's, and Christ is God's. All things are yours. Come on—rise up to the level of what belongs to you!'" And the Lord said to me, "If you'll find the place where you can hook onto the Baptists and quit fighting them, you'll get them." I quit fighting them that minute. I just went over and hooked onto them—and other churches, too—praise God. There's always somewhere we can hook on. The minute I did this, pastors and their wives started getting filled with the Holy Spirit. When you start loving people instead of fighting them, you can help them. So we may have to judge ourselves sometimes. When we do, let's correct ourselves. Remember, it's not a disgrace to be wrong; it's a disgrace to stay wrong. If we're wrong, thank God we can straighten up and do right, no matter who we are. (Kenneth E. Hagin) |
RIGHT ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE WEAK One time we were having a watch night service in one church I pastored. People would stay until after midnight and watch the New Year in. We didn't have any special speaker, and people were testifying about what different ones in the church meant to them. I said, "I want to thank God for Sister So-and-so." Everybody looked at me, because Sister So-and-so was a gossip. She was a trouble-maker and was always sticking her nose in everybody else's business. She caused everybody, including me, more problems and trouble than anyone else in the church. So I said, "I want to thank God for Sister So-and-so. She's been the greatest blessing to me of anybody in this church. She's kept me on my knees almost continually. I wouldn't have prayed nearly as much if it hadn't been for her." Knowing her helped me! I suffered with her, but it matured me. (Kenneth Hagin) |
U CAN TAKE HIS FAITH, BUT LEAVE HIS DOCTRINAL ERROR A true apostle will…..qualify himself by being apt to teach sound biblical doctrine, not doctrinal tangents or extreme teachings. And he will make sure he bases his ministry solidly on the Word, rather than on spiritual gifts or signs and wonders. Folks miss it when they think they can follow the doctrine of some so-called apostle because they see miraculous signs and wonders operating in his ministry. No, every minister's doctrine must line up with the Bible, even if signs and wonders occur in his ministry. Rev. P.C. Nelson was a leading Greek and Hebrew scholar and an outstanding Bible teacher. He said something along this line about John Alexander Dowie that has helped me immeasurably over the years. Dowie was a great pioneer in the message of divine healing in America. Many wonderful miracles of healing took place under Dowie's ministry. However, Dowie got off doctrinally by announcing that he was the third Elijah that was to come. Dad Nelson, as we called him, said about Dowie: "You can follow Dowie's faith, but you can't follow his doctrine." Friends, go back to the Old Testament and read the story of Samson. You can see in Samson's life that signs and wonders operated in his life, but that didn't necessarily mean he had godly character or sound doctrine. For example, Samson had the working of miracles operating through him. Even when he was living with a woman in adultery and lying, the gift of working of miracles still operated in his life for a time (see Judges chapter 16). Now don't misunderstand me. The time came when God judged Samson's sin. Samson got up and shook himself and he . . wist not that the LORD was departed from him" (Judges 16:20). Well, thank God for the miracles that operated in Samson's life, but his life wasn't a moral standard to follow after. Innocent people are misled when they try to follow someone's doctrine because of supernatural signs and wonders occurring in his ministry. Paul said, "Be ye followers of me, EVEN AS I ALSO AM OF CHRIST" (1 Cor. 11:1). You can follow a person in doctrine as he follows the Word. But don't pay any attention to any so-called apostle or any minister if what he says can't be backed up with the Word. Just because a person stands in a ministry office doesn't mean you ought to listen to what he says if it's not scriptural — even if the miraculous power of God is demonstrated in his life for a time. The time is coming when God will have to judge doctrinal error. You may be able to follow someone's faith, but not his doctrine. Sometimes people try to follow someone's doctrine because of his faith. But that's not scriptural. A little doctrinal error left unchecked will eventually become gross error. For example, if you flew from Tulsa to Los Angeles and you were a little bit off course, if the pilot didn't correct the course, you'd get so far off course, you'd never reach your destination. The same thing is true spiritually. If you get off course spiritually just a little, you need to correct yourself immediately and get right back in line with the Word. Otherwise, the further you go, the greater the doctrinal error will be. A true apostle will teach sound biblical doctrine. And he will back up what he says with the Word. (Kenneth Hagin) |
SAY WHAT YOU MEAN A certain minister's testimony was told to me several times before I heard it from him firsthand. Playing baseball at a youth camp, he slid into third base and broke his ankle. Part of the bone was sticking out through the skin. As some were preparing to get him into town to a doctor, one of the ministers asked him if he wanted medical help or for God to heal him. When he said that he would rather have his healing, the minister said, "All right, you can. I have been in the Pentecostal Movement from the beginning,'' and he began to tell him about broken bones he had seen healed. For 40 minutes, he sat there by third base, talking to the injured man, getting his mind off the ankle and foot. Then he told him to get up. But the minute he put his broken foot on the ground, he fainted and fell. The counseling minister worked to revive him, talked with him another 40 minutes, then helped him up on his good foot. However, when weight was put on the injured foot, again the wounded man fainted. The older minister said to him when he again revived, "We're missing it somewhere." So the older minister asked the Lord, "God, where are we missing it?" Then the minister said, "Oh, I see. I see it now. Son, this time when you get up, don't get up on your good foot. Get up on your bad one." When he did, instantly he was healed! There was no pain at all! Believing with your heart is independent of your sense knowledge. Dr. Lilian B. Yeomans knew what faith was. In one of her books, which are some of the best you can read on healing, she says, "God delights in His children stepping out over the aching void with nothing under their feet but the Word of God." Again she said, "To look to see whether God is healing you is a sin." Dr. Yeomans was a medical doctor who received healing and deliverance from a hopeless dependence on narcotics and then devoted the rest of her life to preaching and teaching divine healing. A minister who had been a student in one of her classes in a Bible college told me of this incident. She was in the habit of praying for students in the classroom, and held healing services in her classes. It seems he went up and requested prayer. "What for?" she asked. "I want you to pray for my cold," he answered. "Your cold? Well, if it is your cold there's no use in praying. You have already accepted it and you won't get any healing. Now if you want to be delivered from the devil's cold, then we'll pray." "Oh, that's what I meant," he said. She replied, "Say what you mean." (Kenneth E. Hagin) |
WHEN YOU ARE FACED WITH TESTS AND TRIALS A minister once came to me who had had some things happen in his life which had robbed him of his peace. He was greatly disturbed and couldn't sleep at night. He couldn't eat and keep his food down. He came to me because he believed I could help him. I think he wanted me to pray all of his troubles away. He was being sued by someone over an automobile accident, and he didn't know just what the outcome would be. He knew it could ruin him if he lost the case. I am sure he had not slept for at least three days when he came to me. He looked haggard and worn out. I got my Amplified translation and read Philippians 4:6 and 7 to him. The best way I could help even though he was a preacher, was to tell him what the Bible says. That made him mad. He said, "Oh, everybody doesn't have as much faith as you. I can't do that." I said, "Why, yes, you can. You have come to me for help, and I am just telling you what I do when I'm faced with tests and trials. I have been in troublesome situations before, too, and this is what I do. I just follow the instructions! "I refuse to worry about it, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, I let my requests be made known unto God. And I always receive the very thing you are seeking - the peace of God which passes all understanding." He simmered down a bit and then said, "Just how do you do it?" I said, "Do you have an Amplified Bible? In the Amplified translation the meaning is clearer. I just get on my knees with my Bible opened to this scripture, and I say, `Now, Lord, this is Your Word. And You say that you can't lie. The Psalmist said, "For ever, 0 Lord, thy word is settled in heaven" [Ps. 119:89]. So I refuse to worry and be fretful about this. I bring this to You, Lord. This is a care and an anxiety. Peter said, "Casting the whole of your care - all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all - on Him ..." [1 Peter 5:7]. So I'm casting my care upon You.'" I then referred this minister to First Peter 5:7. You would think that preachers would know this verse is in the Bible, wouldn't you? Then I went on to say to him, "So when I'm faced with difficult circumstances, I pray to the Lord, `Lord, I cast this care over on You. Now I am going to sleep. And tomorrow I am going to eat, too, because I have the peace that passes all understanding.' Then I get into bed and go to sleep." This minister then asked, "Well, are you ever troubled?" I answered, "Yes, sometimes I have to go back a time or two in prayer and repeat this to the Lord for my own benefit. Then my mind begins to grow quiet because I give place to the Word instead of to worry. When I give place to the Word my spirit begins to dominate me. This peace will come as you walk in genuine faith, doing what the Bible says to do because God said this peace would guard or garrison both your mind and your spirit." There have been times when I have cast all of my cares upon the Lord, and after falling off to sleep, for some reason or another I was awakened. The minute I was awakened, the devil brought to my mind again the critical situation I was facing at the time. Do you know what I did when that happened? (This is a part of receiving the peace beyond all understanding.) I just started laughing right out loud. Right in the nighttime I would just burst out laughing. That is beyond our understanding or natural human reasoning, but the Lord always took care of the situation. How in the world could a person laugh right in the midst of trouble? Yet when you have this peace, you can laugh right in the face of trouble - even death. After I was healed and raised off a deathbed, there was a time when death came and tried to fasten itself upon my body. I started laughing. The devil said to me, "What are you laughing at?" I said, "Well, you said I was going to die, but I'm not. I'm going to live. I'm not going to die. I'm going to live." If you try to tell most people they can laugh in the midst of trouble because of the peace of God that's within, they can't understand it. (If you have been to the place where you stood your ground when your faith was severely tried and challenged, you can understand it. But if you haven't, it would probably be hard for you to understand it.) (Kenneth Hagin) |
THE GREAT PHYSICIAN Last evening in the healing rooms, just at six o’clock, I was visited by a woman who I met four or five months ago in the Deaconess Hospital. The dear lady had been given up to die. She had been examined by x-ray, and a large cancer in her stomach was discovered. They told her there was nothing to be done for her. So, the dear husband sent for me to speak a kind word to his supposedly dying wife. I did not understand what I had been sent for and when I got to the dear soul, I supposed I had been called to pray the prayer of faith for healing. I said, “Dear Mother, you do not have to die.” “But,” she said, “the doctor says so. The X-ray shows such a sized cancer. I guess, brother, I will have to die.” And I said, “It is a lie. You do not have to die.” For two or three months, we battled against that condition in the woman’s soul. The Spirit of God would come upon her every time we prayed. Her pains would disappear, she would go to sleep, etc., but she was not really healed. That went on week after week and month after month until I was almost worn out before her soul raised to take victory. But last night she walked into the healing rooms. She told me that she weighed only seventy-five pounds when I met her and that now she weighs one hundred twenty pounds. She went to the hospital this week and had the same physician x-ray her. When they saw the picture, they said, “There must be some mistake.” And they got the original and examined it. They could not understand it. She said, “Doctor, I found a new Physician, the Great Physician, the Christ of God, and I do not care about your [x-ray] plates. I know the cancer is gone.” But the [x-ray] plates showed it was gone. The woman has gone back home a happy woman. But, beloved, the victory only came when the consciousness of the power of the living Christ took possession of that woman’s heart. Blessed be God. FAITH TO BELIEVE BEYOND WHAT THE EYE CAN SEE The Betty Baxter Story, as told by Betty Baxter Note: Betty Baxter had been a bedridden cripple for 14 years, yet throughout this time she had faith that Jesus Christ would heal her. Her story is an inspiration to all who are faithfully waiting to see the answer to their prayers. As far back as I can remember I wasn’t normal like other boys and girls. My body was twisted and crippled and deformed. I was born with a severe curve in my spine. The x-rays showed that the bones were twisted and matted together; therefore my nervous system was wrecked. I lived in constant pain. The doctors kept me on drugs so I could endure the pain. "Well, Mr. Baxter," the doctor said, "There is nothing medical science can do. We can never hope to untangle that mass of bones in Betty’s body. Take her home and let her be as happy as possible.” I was 11 years old at that time and had no idea that the doctor was sending me home to die. I looked at him, "Yes, Doctor, but someday God will heal my body. I will be well and strong then." They took me home where the doctor said I would soon die. I grew worse. The pain I had suffered before was nothing compared to what I began to feel after I returned home. I would go blind; I would become deaf; and I would become unable to speak. My tongue would swell, then would be paralyzed. It seemed I was caught; some awful power was trying to destroy me. But each day Mom would pray with me and tell me God was able to heal my body. Many people have said, "Betty, why didn’t God heal you when you were a little child and had such great faith?” I don’t know. God’s ways are not my ways. God’s ways are best. There is one thing I do know—during those awful years of loneliness and pain I really got to know Jesus. He lives in the valley, my friend. He is the Lily of the Valley and you will find Him there if you look for Him. Standing in the shadows you will see Jesus, because He has promised, "I will never leave you nor forsake you.” My body was so deformed that when my daddy would stand me up, I stood only as high as my little four-year- old brother. Large knots had grown on my spine, the first one at the base of my neck, then one right after the other to the base of my spine. My arms were paralyzed from my shoulders to my wrists. I could only move my fingers. My head was twisted and turned down on my chest. When I drank water I had to drink from a tube because I couldn’t raise my head. Yet in this condition, Jesus whispered, "Remember child, I will never leave you nor forsake you." As the years went by I gave up all hope of ever being made well by a doctor. Finally my dad came in and took my crippled body in his arms and sat on the edge of his bed. He looked at me with big tears splashing down his rugged face. He said, "Honey, you don’t know, you don’t have the least idea what money is, but I have given up everything. I have spent all I have and more in order to get you well. Betty, your daddy has gone as far as he can go. There isn’t any hope anymore." He took out his handkerchief and wiped his face dry. Then looking at me he said, "I don’t believe Jesus will let you suffer much longer. He is going to take you to that place called heaven and when you get inside, stand there and watch everyone that enters. Someday you will see daddy coming through those gates. It won’t be long. The doctors say it will be soon." One day just before the sun went down, I was struck with such unbearable pain that I lapsed into unconsciousness. Three hours later my mother noticed my breathing was too slow and I scarcely had any pulse. She called the doctor. After an examination, he said, "This is the end. She will never regain consciousness." I lay unconscious for four days and nights. The family was called in and they took up the death watch. The fifth morning I remember opening my eyes. Mom leaned over the bed and put her cool hand on my burning forehead. I felt as if I were burning up inside. Knife-like pains were shooting through my spine. "Betty, it’s Mother, don’t you know me?" I couldn’t speak but smiled at her. She raised her hands toward heaven and began praising God for answering her prayers and giving me back to her. I slowly regained consciousness. Then the doctor said I would not last through the summer months. Early summer came. Everyone in Martin County, Minnesota, knew the little Baxter girl was dying. Saints and sinners alike came to my bedside, but most of the time I was unconscious. When I was conscious they would pat me on the shoulder, say a kind word, and leave. But during my moments of consciousness, I never gave up hope. I couldn’t speak out loud, but in my heart I knew Jesus had told me that "as soon as fall comes you’ll have healing." I never doubted, but kept believing that He was going to heal me in the fall. That summer on the 14th day of August, my speech returned. I hadn’t spoken for weeks. I said, "Mom, what day is today?" She said, "The 14th day of August." My daddy came in at noon. I said, "Daddy, where’s the big chair? Please put the pillows in it and set me in the big chair." The only way I could sit in the chair was with my head resting on my knees and my arms hanging down at my sides. I said, "Daddy, when you go out, close the door. Tell Mom not to come in for awhile. I want to be alone." I heard my daddy sob as he left the room and he didn’t ask any questions. He knew why I wanted to be alone. I had an appointment with the King. I heard Dad click the door. I began to cry and sob. I said, “Jesus, You promised You would have healing for me in the fall. I asked Mom this morning what day it was and she said the 14th day of August. Jesus, I guess You don’t count this fall yet because it’s still awful hot, but Lord I wonder if just for this one year You could call this fall and come and heal me? The pain is so bad, Jesus. I have gone as far as I can go. I can’t stand the pain any longer. I wonder Lord if You will call this fall and come and heal me?” I listened. Heaven was quiet. But I didn’t give up. I pray differently than some people, I guess. If I don’t hear from heaven, I pray until Jesus answers. I listened a while longer. When there was no answer, I began to cry again. I said, “Lord, I’ll tell you what I’ll do. I’ll make a bargain. Now Jesus, listen to me. I’m going to bargain with you. Jesus. If you will only heal me and make me well inside and outside, I’ll go out and preach every night until I’m 90 years old if that’s what You want. Lord, I’ll do more than that. If You will heal me so I can walk and use my arms and be strong and normal, I’ll give You my whole life. It will no longer belong to Betty Baxter—it will be Yours and Yours alone.” I listened after I made these vows. This time I was rewarded. I heard the voice of Jesus speaking audibly to me. He spoke these words: “I am going to heal you completely on August 24th, Sunday afternoon, at 3 o’clock.” A thrill of hope and expectancy swept through my entire body and soul. God told me the day and the hour! The first thought that came to me was, “Won’t Mom be glad when I tell her? Just think how happy she will be when I tell her I know the day and the hour.” Then Jesus spoke again and said to me, “Now, don’t tell this until my time comes.” I thought, I’ve never kept anything from my mother. How will I keep this from her? After Jesus told me this I felt like a new person. I didn’t mind the sharp pains anymore or the violent throbbing of my enlarged heart. The 24th day of August would soon come and I would have relief. I heard the door open and Mom walked in. She knelt down on the rug and looked up in my face. I wanted to tell her what Jesus had told me. The hardest thing I ever did was to keep from telling her. Later I looked at Mom. I thought, Something has happened to Mom, She looks so pretty and young today. Then I thought the reason she looked so different was that I knew the secret about my healing next Sunday. I looked at her again, and was convinced more than ever that something had happened to her. Her eyes had never shone like that before. Then all at once she leaned over me, pushed the hair back from my forehead and said, “Honey do you know when the Lord is going to heal you?” Oh, I knew but I wasn’t supposed to tell. I couldn’t say no for I would not be telling the truth. So I said, “When?” Mom smiled and said, “August 24th, Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock.” I said, “Mom, how did you know? She replied, “The same God that talks to you talks to me.” Many people have asked how my mother knew the day I would be healed. While the Lord was talking to me, the rest of the family was in the dining room eating. My mother had taken a fork full of food, and as she was about to put it into her mouth, it dropped back on the plate with a clatter. Then she heard the inner voice of God speak and say, “I have heard your prayers, and I am going to reward you for your faithfulness. I am going to heal Betty, August 24th, Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Betty knows the same thing, as I have already told her.” So when Mom came into the room she already knew that the Lord had told me the day and hour that I would be healed. I said, “Mom, listen to me. I haven’t had a dress on or shoes on my feet since I was a little girl. I have worn these nightclothes all these years. Mom, after Jesus heals me Sunday afternoon, I’m going to church Sunday night. The stores are closed on Sunday. Mom, if you really believe Jesus is going to heal me, will you go to Fairmont this afternoon and get me some new clothes? Will you, Mom?” My mother showed her faith by her works. “Sure, I will go into town today and get you some clothes so you can wear them Sunday night,” she said. My mother brought the dress and shoes home and showed them to me. I thought the dress was the most beautiful I had ever seen. The shoes were patent leather and they were pretty. (Packed among my treasures, in the bottom of an old chest, in my mother’s home up in Iowa there lies that old blue dress right now. After my healing, I wore it until I got a hole in it where I had rubbed against the pulpit when I preached.) When people came to see me, I would say, “Mom, get my dress and shoes out and let my friends see them.” They would look at me, then at the dress and shoes, then at my mother. I knew they thought strange of me, but I knew exactly what was going to happen the 24th day of August. I told a neighbor of ours who was not a Christian, that if he wanted to see me tall and straight, to be at our house Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock because Jesus is going to come and heal me. Sunday morning came. My mother invited a few friends, saying, “Be sure and get here about 2:30 because 3 o’clock is the hour. They came at 2 o’clock. They said, “Mrs. Baxter, we are early, but we know something is going to happen, and we don’t want to miss it.” That was the atmosphere around me when I was healed. The newspaper reporters were there, too, from the Fairmont (Minnesota) Daily Sentinel. At 15 minutes before 3 o’clock my mother carried me in and set my twisted body in the chair and propped me up with pillows. I saw the people as they knelt on the floor around my chair. I saw my brother, four years old. He knelt down by me, looked up and said, “Sis, it’s not very long now until you will be taller than me.” At 10 minutes before 3 o’clock my mother asked me what I wanted them to do. I said, “Mom, start praying. I want to be praying when Jesus comes.” I heard her sobbing and praying for Jesus to keep His promise and come and heal my body. As we prayed, I became lost in the spirit, and then Jesus came slowly toward me with His arms outstretched. I noticed the ugly prints of the nails in His hands. The closer He got to me the better I felt. When He came really close I began to feel very small and unworthy. I wasn’t anything but a little forgotten girl who was deformed and crippled. Then all at once He smiled at me and I wasn’t afraid anymore. He was my Jesus. Then I felt his hand on the very center of my spine on one of the large knots. All at once a hot feeling, as hot as fire, like an electrical current, surged through my body. I was healed inside and outside. Jesus did for me in a few moments what the doctors on this earth could not do. The Great Physician did it and He did it perfectly. I jumped out of the chair, ran to my mother and said, “Mom, feel, are the knots gone?” She felt up and down my spine and said, “Yes, they are gone!” I heard the bones crack and pop. “Betty, you’re healed! You’re healed! Praise Him for it!” Tears rolled down my cheeks. My body felt light all over because I didn’t have any pain. I felt tall because I had been bent almost double with my head on my chest, but now the knots were gone and my spine was straight. I raised my arms and pinched one of them. My arms had feeling. They weren’t paralyzed anymore. Then I looked and saw my younger brother standing in front of the chair. Big tears were rolling down his little cheeks. Looking up at me I heard him say, “I saw Sis jump out of the big chair. I saw Jesus heal Sis.” I picked up the chair, raised it above my head and said, “See what the God I serve can do!” For the past 60 years, Betty has kept her vow to preach. JESUS, THE MOST EMOTIONAL BEING …as we (Jesus & I) walked along, Jesus began to cry. I was astounded. Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, began to cry! He turned toward me, shedding tears of intercession. Some things are too sacred to repeat, but this one thing He told me I could tell: "Roberts, I love My people so much that I would go back to earth, preach My three years over again, and die for just one person. If I had not already paid the price for them, and if I thought they wanted to come to heaven, I would do it all over again. "I would not have to know they would make it. If I just thought they wanted to come, I would do it for them, even if they were the greatest sinner of all." He kept saying, "I love My people so much. Why do people not take Me at My Word? Do they not know that I have all power in heaven and on earth to back up what I said? It is so easy. I made it so simple. If people would just take Me at My Word, I will do what I said." Then He cried harder and said, "I do not understand why people say they believe I will do something, but when it does not happen in their time, they begin to doubt My Word. If they will just believe and say with confidence that I will do it, I will do it at the correct time." I knew Jesus was crying because of our unbelief. I was only eight years old, but I knew what unbelief was and how it hurt Jesus. I made a covenant with Jesus right then never to doubt His words and to let God be God. Now, when I am about to think or say something in doubt, I remember the tears of intercession that fell from Jesus' eyes, and I put off any doubt and unbelief. When we came to a branch of the River of Life, we took off our shoes and got in. The water was knee-deep and crystal clear. Do you know the first thing Jesus did to me? He dunked me! I got back up and splashed Him, and we had a water fight. We splashed each other and laughed. We walked on the inside of the water. I know you will not be able to understand that, and I do not either, really. But that is what we did. That meant something to me, for the King of Glory, the Son of God, to take time out for little eight-year-old Roberts, to play with him in the River of Life. When I get back to heaven, I want to put up a historical marker on that spot that will say: This spot is where Jesus Christ became not only Roberts Liardon's Lord and Savior, but his friend. Yes, He became my friend. Now we walk and talk together. When I hear a good joke, I can run to Jesus and hear Him laugh at it. And when He gets a good one, He tells me. You know, God has some jokes He will tell you, if you are sensitive enough to hear His voice. His jokes are very funny and never boring. After all, the Bible does tell us that God laughs. (Ps. 2:4, Ps. 37:13.) The River of Life is quite different from anything on earth. When you walk into it, it purifies you. It cleanses you of anything remaining from your earth life and gives you life from its source, the Throne Room of God. (Rev. 22:1,2.) The River of Life flows like a mountain stream, and there is no bottom to it. It is crystal clear all the way through. After we had played in it for a while, we got out. Then what felt like a huge hair dryer blew by and dried our clothes instantly. We put on our shoes and left. (Robert Liardon) |
I’ve lost everything, but as you always told me, I HAVE ALL GOD’S RESOURCES WITHING ME. DISCOVERING WHAT ALREADY BELONGS TO YOU Recalling an incident that happened during a meeting I held in Oklahoma. One of the seven cooperating churches was pastured by a couple I had known in Texas. They said, "We're going to bring a woman from our church for prayer one night, Brother Hagin. She is crippled. She has not walked a step in seven years. We have taken her to the best specialists in the state, and they have said she'll never walk again 'the longest day she lives.'" Ordinarily I minister under the anointing. The night she came, I had so many to minister to that by the time I got to her I was exhausted. You see, the Lord is the same all the time, but I am not. Potentially, the anointing is there all the time, but in manifestation, it is not, because when you grow weary, it is difficult to yield to God. Because the anointing was gone by the time I got to this woman, I couldn't conscientiously minister to her as I normally would. They had brought her to the meeting from a distance, and what was I to do? Just send her away? No, no. There was a way to minister to her—because God's Word never fails! The anointing may wane, disappear and be gone, but the Word of God is anointed forever, hallelujah, and His Words are Spirit and Life. All I did was sit down on the altar beside the woman, open my Bible to this verse of Scripture (1Peter 2:24 - …by whose stripes ye were healed), lay the Bible on her lap, and ask her to read it. Then I asked her, "Is the Word ‘were’ past tense, future tense, or present tense?" A look of recognition flashed across her face like a Neon light lighting up in the dark. "Why," she said, "it's past tense. And if we WERE healed, I WAS!" (That is believing in line with God's Word.) I said, "Sister, will you do what I tell you to do?" "Well," she said, "I will if it's easy." I said, "It's the easiest thing you ever did in your life. Just lift up your hands and start praising God, because you are healed—not going to be—ARE!" I wish you could have seen that crippled woman. She had no evidence of healing—she had not yet walked a step—but she lifted her hands, looked up, and as a smile broke across her face, she said, "Oh, dear Father God—whooo! I'm so glad I'm healed! Oh, Lord, you know how tired I got sitting around these last few years. I'm so glad I'm not helpless and don't need to be waited on anymore." (You see, she was acting on the Word. That's what faith is.) I stood and told the congregation, "Let's all lift our hands and praise God with her, because she is healed." (And yet, from all observation, she was still sitting on the altar, crippled.) After we stopped I turned to the woman and said, "Now, my sister, rise and walk in Jesus' Name!" God and hundreds of people are my eternal witnesses that instantly she leaped to her feet and jumped and ran and danced like the man who went into the Temple walking and leaping and praising God (Acts 3: .We all shouted and cried with her. Then somebody went off and told a lie about me! He said, "That fellow Hagin healed a crippled woman over there last night." I didn't have anymore to do with it than you or anybody else could have. Jesus healed her nearly 2,000 years ago, and she just found out about it that night! (Kenneth E. Hagin) |

HOW TO OVERCOME DIVORCE One night during a very cold winter, I had just gone to bed & pulled the covers up. I was appreciating the cozy warmth of my bed, & had almost fallen asleep when a telephone call came: ‘’Pastor, do you know who this is?’’ ‘’Of course I do. I married you & your wife!’’ I replied. ‘’I have tried for 2yrs with all there is within me to make our marriage work but it is not working’’ he said. ‘’Tonight we had a big argument & we finally decided to separate. We’ve already divided our assets. But there’s just one thing, we want a blessing from you. We were married with your blessing & want to be divorced with your blessing’’ What a position for a minister to be in, to bless them in marriage & now to bless them in divorce! I replied, ‘’Can you wait till tomorrow?’’ ‘’Pastor,’’ he said disappointedly, ‘’Tomorrow will be too late. We’re leaving each other today. We don’t want you to preach to us. It’s too late for that. We’re beyond that now: but just come & simply give us your blessing so that we can be divorced.’’ I crawled out of bed & went into the living room. In my heart, I was angry at Satan. ‘’This is the work of the devil,’’ I thought. ‘’It is not the work of the Holy Spirit.’’ As I began to pray, my spirit rose to the 4th dimension, the spiritual realm. I knelt down in the quietness of the night & closed my eyes. I visualized the cross of Jesus where every need was met through His shed blood. By the help of the Holy Spirit I began to visualize this family restored & their marriage renewed. I envisioned a clear picture of this & prayed, ‘’Oh, Father, make it happen just like that.’’ While I was praying, I was touched by the faith of God in the name of Jesus Christ this entire situation was changed in the spiritual realm. I saw it & I believed it as I prayed, then I went to visit the couple. They were living in a very luxurious apartment with every convenience one could wish for. But when I walked in, I felt an icy chill. I felt the hatred that existed between that couple. You know, you can have all the material goods of this world, but if there is hatred in your family, the wealth of material goods means absolutely nothing at all. They are not a blessing. As I came in, I found the husband sitting in the living room. His wife was in the bedroom. As soon as I walked into the living room the husband began to speak in a derogatory manner about his wife. His wife then rushed into the room saying, ‘’don’t listen to him! Listen to me.’’ Then she began out against her husband. As I listened to the husband, everything he said seemed to be right. Then as I listened to the wife, everything she said seemed to be right. Each was right in his own eyes. Both were right & I was sandwiched between. Both said they were completely finished in their marriage. ‘’don’t pray for us,’’ they kept repeating. ‘’Just pray for our divorce.’’ But in prayer, I had already overruled the 3rd dimension of their world by seeing in the 4th dimension & praying in faith that this marriage was healed. Being confident that I had heard from the Holy Spirit about them, I took the hand of the husband & the hand of the wife & I spoke, ‘’In the name of Jesus Christ, I command Satan to loose his hold of hatred in this couple. & in this moment, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I command that this 2 be melted together again. Let their hearts be melted & rejoined in love & harmony instead of going through with a divorce.’’ Suddenly, I felt a warm drop fall on my hand. When I looked at the man, he was crying & I saw his tears had fallen on my hand. I thought, ‘’Praise God! It is working!’’ when I looked at the eyes of the wife, I could see that her eyes were watering also. I drew their hands together & said, ‘’What the Lord has joined together, let no man or circumstances divide.’’ I stood up & said, ‘’I’m going.’’ Both of them followed me out to the gate, & as I left they both said, ‘’Goodbye, Pastor.’’ ‘’Praise God,’’ I said. ‘’It works! The next Sunday, both of them were in the choir & sang beautifully. After the service, I shook their hands & asked the wife, ‘’What happened?” “Well, we don’t know,” she answered. But when you said those words & gave such strong commands, we felt something break down in our hearts. It was as if a wall had been destroyed, & we were shaken. When the wall was destroyed, we began to feel that perhaps we should try once more, together. After you left, we spent the night unpacking all of our things. Now, when we think of it, we cannot understand why we argued so much & why we were going to separate. Now, we love each other more than ever.’’ (David Yonggi Cho) |
SEE YOURSELF STRONG, HEALTHY, SUCCESSFUL, PROSPEROUS ETC One Christmas Eve I was busy preparing a sermon when an urgent telephone call came in the early morning hours of Christmas day. A doctor calling from Seoul National Hospital asked, ‘’Are you Pastor Cho?’’ ‘’Yes I am’’ I replied. ‘’One of your members is dying. He was in a car accident. A taxi driver hit him, then he drove around all through the night with him in the back seat.’’ In Korea at that time, if someone was hit & killed by a taxi, the taxi driver would only have to pay the sum of $2,500, & then he would be cleared of all financial obligations. However, if the victim was injured & lived, then the driver would have to pay all of the medical & hospital bills. So, if a driver hit someone & no one saw the accident, he would drive that person around until he or she died. It would be cheaper for him. The church member had just bought a beautiful hat & other gifts for his wife. He was so carried away with the joy of giving her these presents that he jay-walked across the street without observing the traffic light & was hit by a taxi. Since it was late in the evening & it seemed that no one saw the accident, this taxi driver carried the injured man in his car throughout the evening. The man did not die & eventually a policeman caught the taxi & took the injured man to the hospital. The impact of the accident had badly impaired the man’s intestines. His stomach was full of dirt & blood, & blood poisoning had already set in. His doctor knew me & called, saying, ‘’Dr. Cho, should we operate on him? Medically speaking, it’s hopeless. He was without medical attention for such a long time & now blood poisoning has set in. there is nothing we can do.’’ But I said, ‘’You go ahead & operate on him & as soon as I finish the Christmas sermon, I’ll hurry to the hospital.’’ After the Christmas service I rushed to the emergency room of Seoul National University Hospital & there he was, totally unconscious. The doctor repeated again there was no hope. ‘’Reverend, don’t expect anything. He is dying. We can do nothing. When we opened his abdomen, 3 areas of his intestines had been completely severed, & these areas were filled with excrement & dirt. There is no hope.’’ I replied, ‘’Well, I’ll try to do my best.’’ In his room, I knelt beside him & prayed: ‘’Lord God, give me only 5mins. Let him come out of the coma for 5mins.’’ As I was praying I felt him moving. I opened my eyes & the man opened his eyes. ‘’Oh, Pastor, I’m dying’’ he cried. Knowing that I had 5mins, I replied, don’t say that. As long as you are saying you will die, you can’t have faith. You must think of living through this ordeal. Change your thinking. The only way to take control over this 3rd dimensional situation is through your faith, which will give you visions & dreams of being well again. Think wholeness! Listen to me. Picture a healthy young man saying goodbye to his wife. He’s in the full bloom of youth & health. He goes to his office & completes his business successfully. All the people respect & admire him. Evening arrives & he stops enroute home to purchase gifts for his wife. She’s waiting for him to come home so that they can have dinner together. When he arrives, she rushes out to the gate & welcomes him with a big hug & kiss. They go into the house & share a delicious meal together & a quiet evening at home. ‘’The man I am talking about is no stranger. That man is you! Think of that man! Draw that picture in your mind. Look at that man & say in your heart, ‘I am that man!’ ‘’ ‘’Don’t draw a picture of death. Don’t form a picture of a dead corpse. Keep dreaming about that man, & I will do the praying. You just draw a mental picture & leave the praying to me. Will you do that?’’ ‘’Yes, pastor, I’ll change my thinking. I’ll believe that I am that man. I’ll try to make that vision & dream a reality. I see it! He cried. While we were talking, the surgeon came in with his nurses. They started giggling & laughing at me. They probably thought I had lost my mind. But I was serious. I knew the law of the Spirit’s 4th dimension & that man had begun to speak in the language of the Holy Spirit. like a missionary on a foreign field who gains a deeper level of communication with the local people of that country by learning to speak their language directly instead of using an interpreter, so that dying had learned the language of the Holy Spirit – to see himself completely well & believe it would happen. As I knelt down & grabbed hold of his bed, I prayed, ‘’Dear Holy Spirit, you are the Healer in the world today. Now he speaks your language. He has a vision & a dream of being completely healed & restored. Place your healing upon his physical body & take control. I command this man to be whole & to be filled with healing power!’’ Suddenly the group of unbelieving nurses said, ‘’This room is hot. The heat is too high.’’ But the weather was not very cold outside. The room was not unreasonably hot. It was the power of the Holy Spirit at work healing this man. The surgeon & the nurses said they began to feel fire. Their ears turned red & the power of God became so strong that we even felt the bed trembling. What happened? Both the sick man & I had released faith & the Holy Spirit worked in response to that faith. The Holy Spirit took control & healing took place! We spoke the language of the Holy Spirit & He manifested healing. Amazingly, in one week that man rose up & walked out of the hospital. He is now in the chemical business & doing wonderfully. Whenever I see him on Sunday morning sitting in the balcony, I say to myself, ‘’Praise God! Because we spoke the same language as the Holy Spirit spoke, He created the healing!! ‘’Hallelujah! THE 92YRS OLD WOMAN WHO RAISED 94 PEOPLE FROM THE DEAD My wife & I went to visit a 92yrs old woman who has raised 94 people from the dead in her life. When she came to Dalas she called me that she went to talk to me. My wife & I hurried to meet her. I asked her this question; ‘’How do you know whom to pray for to raise from the dead?’’ I told her I’ve only seen one person raised from the dead. I was called out of a deep sleep & was told that the man had died. I immediately went there & rebuked the devil & asked the Lord to restore his spirit into him & the guy came back to life. That 10 – 15yrs ago. I said, ‘’How do you know whom to pray for?’’ She said, ‘’I never pray for the rising from the dead for anybody until I hear the voice of Jesus telling me to ‘Do it’ ‘’. I said, ‘’What is the most magnificent one you’ve ever seen?’’ She said, ‘’That was awesome. I was right here in the Metroplex speaking in a large church & there was a woman & her 2 children that came to the meeting every night & her husband didn’t want her there. But she came anyway.’’ This is a disobedient woman girls! She should listened to her husband & stayed at home. That’s what God told her to do but she didn’t. so she came to church, brought those 2 children & that night she said, ‘’The man walked into the service & walked up & killed her & their 2 children in front of everybody. Everybody screamed & ran & Jesus spoke to me saying, ‘Go up there & put your hands on them & command them to live in My name & I will raise them from the dead. I went there, I told everybody to ‘settle down! Settle down!! I laid my hands on them & commanded them to live! The husband was still aiming his gun at them before everyone. But the mother & both kids came back to life right there & the man got saved.’’ If he didn’t get saved there you might as well give up on him. She told us about many experiences she had with God. I asked her, ‘’Where did you get this anointing, how did this happen?’’ She said, ‘’When I was a young girl, my mum & dad took me to all of Smith Wigglesworth’s meeting. I gat to know Smith Wigglesworth on 1st name basis. Just before Smith Wigglesworthdied, he called me & said, ‘God told me to pass this anointing unto you’ that’s where I gat it.’’ She’s 92 & she’s raised 94 dead people from the dead. (Thurman Scrinver) It’s time to STOP playing church. We need to fall on our faces before Jesus for this kind anointing to help lives, bereaved loved ones & produce glory to Jesus. Money, cares of this life & carnality is eating up many of us & making us ineffective. We can win this world if we’ll all seek the face of Jesus daily. This world is a small place if we’ll take our rightful position. Welcome to 2014! |
HOW YOU CAN PRAY & HAVE YOUR DESIRED HUSBAND Once, when I was the visiting preacher in a church, the pastor’s wife invited me to the pastor’s office. There the pastor asked me to pray for a lady. ‘’for what shall I pray?’’ I asked. ‘’well, she wants to get married & she still hasn’t found an eligible person.’’ ‘’Ask her to come in,’’ I said. A nice spinster who was over 30yrs old, walked in. ‘’Sister, how long have you been praying for a husband?’’ I asked. ‘’ For more than 10yrs’’ she answered. ‘’Why hasn’t God answer your prayer for more than 10yrs?’’ I asked. ‘’What kind of husband have you been asking for?’’ She shrugged her shoulders, ‘’Well, that’s up to God. God knows all’’ she replied. ‘’that’s your mistake’’ I said. God never works by Himself, as far as you are concerned but He works through your request. God is the Eternal Source, but He only works through your specific requests. Do you really want me to pray for you? ‘’Yes’’ she replied ‘’Okay, bring me some white paper & a pencil & sit down in front of me’’ she sat down & I began. ‘’If you write down the answers to my questions, I’ll pray for you. Number one: Now you really want a husband but what kind of husband do you want? Asian, Caucasian, or Black?’’ ‘’Caucasian’’ she replied. ‘’Okay, write it down. Now, number 2: Do you want your husband to be tall as 6feet or as small as 5feet?’’ ‘’Oh, I want a tall husband’’ she replied. ‘’Write that down’’ I told her. Number 3: Do you want your husband to be slim & nice looking or just pleasantly plump?’’ ‘’I want to have him skinny’’ she answered. Write that down Number 4: What kind of husband do you want your husband to have? ‘’Well, musical’’ she answered. Write that down. Number 5: What kind of job do you want your husband to have? ‘’School teacher’’ she answered. ‘’Okay, write down school teacher’’ I went through 10 points with her, & then said, ‘Please read aloud your list’’ so she read each point one through ten aloud. Then I said, ‘’Close your eyes. Can you see your husband now?’’ ‘’Yes I can see him clearly’’ she replied. ‘’Okay, lets order him now. Until you see your husband clearly in your imagination you cannot order specifically. If you are not specific, how would you know when God would answer? You must see him clearly before you begin to pray. In other words you must be specific in your request before you pray because God does not answer vague prayers that you yourself are not sure of.’’ So she knelt down & I laid my hands on her & prayed, ‘’Oh God, now she knows specifically what kind of husband she would like. I see her husband by faith. You know her husband. We order him in the name of Jesus Christ.’’ ‘’Sister, take this written paper to your home & paste it on a mirror. Every evening before you go to sleep read those 10 points aloud, & every morning when you get up read those 10 points aloud, & praise God for the answer.’’ One year passed & I was passing through that area again when the wife of the minister called me on the telephone. She said, ‘’Pastor, would you come & have lunch with us?’’ ‘’Of course I will’’ I said. I went to eat lunch with them. As soon as I arrived the cafeteria she said, ‘’Oh, she got married! She got married!’’ ‘’Who got married?’’ I asked. ‘’Do you remember that girl you prayed for? You asked her to write down those 10 points? She got married!’’ ‘’Yes’’ I said. ‘’Now, I remember. What happened?’’ ‘’That particular summer at the church one high school music teacher came in with a quartet, staying at the church for a one week singing revival. He was a single man & all of the young girls were crazy about him; they wanted to date him, but this guy was nonchalant to the young girls. Yet he was fascinated with the older spinster. He was always hanging around her & before he left, he asked her to marry him. Eventually she, not so reluctantly, gave her consent. ‘’They were happily married in that church & on their wedding day her mother took that paper written with the 10 points & read it publicly before the people & then tore it up’’ (David Yonggi Cho) |
CHARLES FINNEY: AN EXAMPLE OF A MAN MIGHTY IN PRAYER Those who have been mighty in prayer have always been those who have come before God and have reminded Him of His promises and of His Word. I suppose Charles G. Finney was one of the most outstanding exponents of prayer who ever lived. He is known as the man who prayed down revivals. As far as church history is concerned, he had the greatest success concerning converts of any other minister since the days of the Early Church. Supposedly, more people remained saved under his ministry after conversion than in any point in history since the days of the evangelistic journeys of the Apostle Paul. Whole cities were stirred because of Charles Finney's prayers. For instance, I read in his autobiography that in 1829, Finney went to Rochester, New York, and conducted a meeting, and practically everyone in town got saved. All of the honky-tonks and beer joints were closed down. There wasn't a place in town left where one could buy anything alcoholic to drink. Nearly everyone in town had to have gotten saved in order for that to happen. The only theater in town closed up. Vaudeville was popular then, but there was no need to put on a show if no one went to the theater! There was such a move of God that when the circus came to town, there was only one performance and only two people showed up! The circus had to close down and leave town. Everyone was interested in God. The revival was on. The people just weren't interested in anything else. You can learn something from a fellow like Finney. I also read from Finney's autobiography that he was a Presbyterian minister and then a Congregationalist. When Finney was a Presbyterian, he was holding a meeting sponsored by the Presbyterian church. He told about going to another place in New York to preach in a Presbyterian church on a Sunday afternoon. Finney had been talking for about fifteen minutes when suddenly the power of God fell on him, and four hundred people fell off their seats onto the floor (there were more than four hundred people present). They fell to the floor under the power of God. Finney hadn't seen that happen before. He found out that all four hundred people had gotten saved; they had all been sinners. When you read about Finney, you find that he was a real man of prayer. I read in his autobiography years ago, and he said that he'd had some experiences in prayer that alarmed him. (I wish we could say in the same way Finney meant it that we had experiences in prayer that alarmed us!) What Finney meant was that many times in prayer, he found himself saying to the Lord, "Lord, You don't think that we're not going to have revival here do you! You don't think that Thou couldst withhold Thy blessings. You said in Your Word to ask and it would be given us." Finney said he found himself telling the Lord what the Lord had said in His Word. He found himself telling the Lord that He was obligated to perform His Word because He had said it. The following is an excerpt from something Finney said, and it shows us that Finney prayed for results, basing his petitions firmly on the promises in God's Word. I was constrained to pray without ceasing. [I could not rest in the house and was obliged to retire to the barn frequently through the day, where I would unburden my soul and pour out my heart to God in prayer. I had wonderful faith given to me at that time, and had some experiences that alarmed me. When alone I would wrestle and struggle, and my faith would rise till I would say to God] that He had made a promise to answer prayer, and I could not, and would not, be denied. [I could be so burdened as to use such strong language to God in prayer.] I felt so certain that He would hear me, and that faithfulness to His promises, and to himself, rendered it impossible that He should not hear and answer, that frequently I found myself saying to Him, "I hope Thou dost not think that I can be denied. I come with Thy faithful promises in my hand, and I cannot be denied."' (Kenneth Hagin) |
WHOSE REPORT DO YOU BELIEVE? I once read a testimony by I. J. Jamison who was formerly a Presbyterian minister. He had been giving some lectures in a western state when a forest fire broke out in the area. The fire was raging, and valuable timber and animals and some homes were being destroyed. The fire was simply burning out of control. Rev. Jamison was in the barber shop one morning getting a shave. The barber had put a towel on his face, and as Rev. Jamison was lying there in the chair, a man came in with a telegram. The man with the telegram said he didn't know what to do with the telegram. Someone had sent it around the city. It said, "Pray for rain." The fire had gotten so out of hand that there was no telling what would happen if it didn't rain. Someone said, "Well, there is a preacher in that chair. Maybe you could give the telegram to him." About that time, the barber raised the chair and took the towel off the preacher's face and asked him if he would pray for rain. Rev. Jamison said, "We don't believe in that sort of thing." So someone in the barber shop spoke up and said, "Well, there is a little tent meeting going on at the edge of town, and they believe in praying for anything." Someone asked, "Who are they?" The answer was, "I don't know. Some of them are `Holy Rollers."' No one would volunteer to take the telegram out to the tent, as they were all afraid of those "Holy Rollers." Rev. Jamison said if no one else would do it, he would. Someone said, "They have a prayer meeting about 10:00 every morning." So the next morning, Jamison took that telegram out to the tent meeting. He said there were about twenty people there. Three or four of them were kneeling on the platform praying. He didn't know which one was the preacher, but he picked out the one he thought might be and tapped him on the shoulder. The man looked up and Rev. Jamison said to him, "Here is a prayer request that someone asked me to bring to you." The man took it and read it. Meanwhile, Rev. Jamison backed away from the group just to see what they would do. Rev. Jamison said the man got up and began to holler for everyone to stop praying. (All the people had been praying all at once, out loud.) He hollered until he got everyone to listen and then he read the prayer request. He asked how many believed God would hear, and they all lifted their hands. So he said, "All right, let's go to prayer about it." Rev. Jamison said that all twenty of them began to pray and they just prayed up a storm. One by one they ceased, and finally the man said to them, "How many of you believe God heard you?" They all raised their hands. He said, "Then let's lift both hands and praise God for the answer." They raised their hands and praised God for rain. Rev. Jamison said later, "That man shocked me." The preacher turned and handed the telegram back to Rev. Jamison and said, "Here, send a telegram back and tell them it will be raining by 10:00 tonight." Rev. Jamison said, "I went back to town to the barber shop and told them what the man had said." All the men in the barber shop slapped one another on the back and laughed about it because they had all read the weather report and no rain was in sight for days. Jamison and his wife were in bed by 9:00 that evening. He said he happened to see the moon shining bright and clear outside. His wife had washed some laundry and had left it hanging on the line. When he saw the clothes on the line, he remembered what that preacher had said about the rain. He began laughing and told his wife what had happened that day. They both lay there and laughed. He said to her, "You had better get your laundry in because it's going to rain." They both laughed and she said, "I read the evening paper and it's not going to rain." He said they must have talked and laughed about it until about 9:30 or so and then they fell off to sleep. After a while, Rev. Jamison was awakened by what sounded like thunder. He thought he was hearing things, but then he saw lightning flash, and before he could get out of bed, it began to rain in torrents. He said he got up and turned on the light and it was exactly 10:00 p.m. Jamison said, "Then I couldn't go to sleep. I thought, Did God hear those people? Is there something to that? Do they know something I don't know? What about that?" He began to slip into those Pentecostal meetings after his own services were dismissed, sitting in the very back. After Jamison finished his lectures in this town he was visiting, he went back to his home state. He would slip over to the little Pentecostal church there at first, and he began sitting on the back row. But he kept sitting closer and closer to the front, until he finally sat on the front row. He said he took notes on the scriptures and messages and would go home to read in the privacy of his study, and there he discovered the truth of God's Word. He thought, Why didn't I see the truth before, particularly scriptures on the Holy Ghost? He continued to go to Pentecostal services, just watching and observing. There was a woman in this Pentecostal church whose daughter was in a mental institution. Jamison heard the mother talking to several folks about meeting her at a certain time in the morning outside the mental institution. Jamison said, "I just intruded on their private conversation because I didn't want to miss out on anything. I found out that they were going to meet outside the institution, and that this woman was going to cast the devil out of her daughter. She had about a dozen spiritual women who were going along with her to back her up in prayer. "I just blurted out, `Can I come along?' And they replied, `All right, meet us out there at 10:00 in the morning."' Jamison met them there. He said he wondered how all of them were going to get inside the institution. But he said he had been around them long enough to believe that because of their faith in God, they could do just about anything. The woman told the attendant that she wanted to see her daughter. Jamison related, "We all went parading down the halls." Then the woman said to the guard, "I want you to open the door and let me in that cell because I'm going to pray for my daughter." The attendant said, "Why, you can't do that! She'll kill you! She's violently insane." Jamison said they stopped before a padded cell where there was a woman who looked more like an animal than a human. Her hair had grown long, her nails were long and claw-like, and she hissed and spit at them like an animal. The attendant told the woman he couldn't let her into the cell because he would lose his job if he did, but all the time he was unlocking the door! The woman stepped in and he locked the door again. Rev. Jamison said he and the attendant were the only men there, and they stepped back to watch. The twelve women who had come with them fell on their knees and prayed quietly. They didn't look at what was happening in the cell; they just knelt down and all prayed quietly. As Jamison and the attendant watched, the daughter backed away and climbed about halfway up that padded wall, then made a leap at her mother like an animal. Her mother sidestepped her and the daughter fell (the daughter was a woman in her early thirties). When her daughter rolled over to get up, the mother jumped on her and held her down and said, "Come out of her, devil, in the Name of Jesus." Jamison said, "That mother got her nose down within an inch of her daughter's nose, and she said for about ten minutes over and over, `Come out of her, devil, in the Name of Jesus."' Suddenly the daughter relaxed, looked up, and said, "Mama! Is that you, Mama?" The daughter threw her arms around her mother's neck and hugged her and kissed her. Jamison said, "I am a witness to the fact that the authorities dismissed that woman that day as being totally well." Then he said, "Bless God, I want the Holy Ghost. If people can pray like that, I'm a candidate." And, thank God, he was gloriously filled with the Holy Ghost, speaking with other tongues. Friends, we ought to pray for results! Jesus Christ is the same today, yesterday, and forever (Heb. 13: . And God our Father never changes (Malachi 3:6). (Kenneth Hagin) |
THE DIVIDEND OF GODLINESS I was saved on the bed of sickness and I became a Baptist boy preacher and then I received the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues. My folks felt I had disgraced the whole family because I was fellowshipping with those "tongue-talkers." In 1937 there was more reproach connected with speaking in tongues than there is today, although in some quarters even today religious prejudices still exist. People become proud of their name, and my family felt that I had disgraced our name. When I was filled with the Holy Spirit I didn't say one word to my family; I didn't even invite them to go to church with me. I felt in my spirit that if I would just live right and not try to push anything off on them, the reality of the baptism in the Holy Spirit would become obvious to them and they would follow me in this New Testament experience. And in the course of time, every one of my family members did receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit, including both of my brothers and my sister, and even my nephews and nieces. Later the folks beyond my immediate family followed me in that experience, too, because they could see the difference in my life. My aunt, my mother's youngest sister, held out the longest. She felt that I had really disgraced her. She was a great church worker, but there is a difference between being a church worker and being a Christian. In 1950 my aunt came to visit us. I wasn't there, but my mother and my wife were. My aunt said to my mother, "You know, there's just a difference in this home. I get blessed spiritually every time I'm here, and I feel comforted and blessed. There's a peace and a tranquility in this home. I felt that Kenneth had disgraced us, but, you know, I believe he made the right move. I'm going to begin attending his church." And she did. She also said, "Not only that, but I've watched him over the years. His children are never sick. Other children in the family are ill, but Kenneth's children never have any illness - very seldom even a cold - but nothing more serious than that. Other children in the family have serious illnesses. There's just a difference in this family." When she said that, I thought of the scripture in First Timothy 4:8: "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but GODLINESS IS PROFITABLE UNTO ALL THINGS, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come." If something is profitable, it pays off, doesn't it? Godliness pays off. It is profitable unto all things, paying off in this life and in the life which is to come. 1 TIMOTHY 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. You see, the thing that influenced my aunt and made her begin attending a Full Gospel church (which she had vowed she would never do) was the profiting that she saw in my life. (Kenneth Hagin) |
THE SECRET OF HEALING I was preaching in Dallas in 1953 for several weeks in a Full Gospel church. Then I stayed on an additional three months while the pastor took a leave of absence. Besides preaching at different times during the week, I had a daily radio program, and I also conducted some special missionary services on the weekend. One Friday night after the services had been dismissed, one of the ushers came and told me that a man and a woman from Forth Worth had come to see me. The woman was sick and wanted to be healed. I met with them, and the man related that he had been going to work one morning and had heard my radio program. He said that I had taught on the radio that healing was for everyone. He told his wife about that statement I had made, and they began to tune in to the radio program every day. The man told me that his wife had had two serious major operations, and she was facing the third one. They had been praying that if it was the will of God for her to be healed, God would give them faith to believe that she would be healed. They had come to me so I could pray for her. I told them that it was unscriptural to pray to God for healing using the words, "If it be Thy will." When you put an "if' in your prayer in praying for anything God has promised you in His Word, you are praying in doubt. Some people think they are being humble when they pray that way, but they are really being ignorant. In other words, when you pray in faith, you don't use an "if." You will get no answer to the prayer of faith if you put "ifs" in your prayers. But when you are praying a prayer of consecration, committing your life to the plan of God, then you can use the phrase, "If it be Thy will," because you don't know for sure what the Lord's will is. When you are praying the prayer of consecration, you are not praying to change something. But the prayer of faith is the prayer to change things. "If' is the badge of doubt, and the word "if' shouldn't be used in your prayers if you are trying to change a situation. I had given some scriptures on the radio concerning faith, but they hadn't registered on this man whose wife was sick because he still wasn't sure it was God's will to heal his wife. I asked him, "If the New Testament said that Jesus took your wife's infirmities and bare her sicknesses, then wouldn't it be God's will for her to have her healing?" He agreed that it would. So we turned to Matthew 8:17. MATTHEW 8:17 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES, and BARE OUR SICKNESSES. This man jumped up and exclaimed that it was the will of God for his wife to be healed. His wife saw it too. Then we turned to First Peter 2:24. 1 PETER 2:24 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: BY WHOSE STRIPES YE WERE HEALED. Then we turned to the Book of Isaiah. ISAIAH 53:4,5 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. The margin reads, "Surely he hath borne our sicknesses and carried our diseases" (Isa. 53:4). This couple said that all they needed now was faith. They knew that it was God's will to heal. They said that they knew they were saved; they had gone forward in a church when an invitation was given and had prayed the sinner's prayer. So I knew that they were saved. I asked them if they had asked the Lord to give them faith to be saved when they had gone down to the altar to be saved. They said no. The man related that the pastor preached that they could be saved. The pastor had read the Word to the people. In other words, they heard the Word concerning salvation. They had faith for salvation because the Bible says, "... faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17). So I told them that they had faith for her healing, too, for the same reason they had had faith for salvation. They had heard the Word. This man said they were going to have to throw their first prayer away because it wasn't any good. I agreed with him. You see, as soon as the light comes, faith is there. This couple already had faith because they had heard and understood the Word. The woman agreed with us. She said that all she had to do now was to accept Jesus as her Healer. So I laid my hand on her head and prayed. Then I asked her if she was healed. And she said that she surely was and that she knew it because the Word says so. Sunday night during the service at that same church, the vestibule doors swung open and there was that same fellow again. He asked the pastor if he could say a word to the congregation. The pastor gave him permission and the man told the congregation what had happened. He said that when he and his wife got home Friday night, she pulled her brace off and threw it into the closet, and said, "Thank God, I'm healed." The next day when he came home, he found her stooped over the sink washing her hair, something she had been unable to do. The woman had been completely healed! I also laid hands on the husband and wife, and they were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in tongues. Years later, the wife was still healed. How did she get faith? From hearing the Word! This man had also brought his mother to be prayed for, who was in a wheelchair with paralysis. After we prayed for her, she got up out of the chair and walked out of the building that night completely well. In the gospel of Jesus Christ, there is provision for every need, salvation, deliverance, safety, preservation, healing, and soundness. Whatever need you have, the faith to receive your answer comes from hearing the Word of God. As you determine to feed upon the Word continually, you will see your faith grow to be able to receive the wonderful promises God has provided for His children. (Kenneth E. Hagin) |
