Hi Nairaland Family,
So far so good, we have the timeline of 8 people. Please if you have applied for a TRV, I would encourage you to share your timeline (which should include; the application date, application route, biometrics request date, date biometrics was done, medical request date, date medicals was done, date medicals was passed, and the current status). If you don't have all this information, you can just share the ones that you have and update the rest as you receive it.

This information would help us study or attempt to establish a pattern to how CIC operates.

We have made attempts to "calculate" processing times. (Please note that this is just an average based on the little sample we have. Your processing time may be faster or slower than the average). As we get more samples, I want to believe our calculations would be more "accurate".

Finally, If there is anything you think i should add to the data or calculate from the data, please share with me.

Also, please @Godatwork23 kingly share the date your biometrics was requested, the date it was done, and the date you did your medicals. @TheAfrikan @Oluwaseunbd and @Klem28 kindly share the date your biometrics was requested and the date you did it.

Sent them a CSE yesterday and early this morning i got the mail. See, there was a moniker here that said it's luck and there's no God after getting his PPR. I don't know where he is now but I want him to know it's not luck. There's an Almighty God, a living God. He answers prayers. Thank you so much Frankrobben, God go do your own. And to all TRV hopefuls, God will answer everyone. There's something I used to do since I got my scholarship, any aeroplane I see, i always decree and declare that I will be in such a plane a month to my resumption . That was my method of faith for over a year now. Glory to God Almighty once more.

Hi guys,

Please for those that have insights to the CAQ application process;

In step 7 of the online application, I got this message.

"Step 7 - Financial information. You are not required to provide information about your financial situation. Click on the "Next" button to continue"

What does this mean exactly? I thought it's standard to provide proof of funding. I wasn't worried about this when I applied in for my CAQ last month but it seems like everyone in my program submitted proof of financial support for their CAQ. I'm beginning to wonder why mine was different... Did i perhaps apply for the wrong thing!!!

What of half-siblings? are we also supposed to include their birth certificates?
Also, in the case that two of a PA's half-sibling immigrated (one to the US and one to the UK - based on marrying citizens), does it weaken home ties and how does one need to address this?

Frankrobbn1:

Include the birth certificate of your siblings. Also, your sponsor (father) should list out the number of his dependants because this gives a clearer view about his family composition. Father should further state in his letter of sponsorship that sponsoring you will not be a burden to the family, business and personal welfare.

Hi Frankrobbn1

So i was essentially asking what would be the best spread to have between one's cost of study and one's available funds. For instance, if my total cost of study is $20k, should my available funds be $25k or $30k or $40k? What margin of difference should i leave between the two?

P.S. Thanks for seeing my DM cheesy

Frankrobbn1:

I don't quite catch that.

Funds available for your stay is the total sum of your tuition + room and board + other (miscellaneous expenses).

Cost of living is meant to be 10,000CAD and 11,000CAD for applicants heading to Quebec as stated on IRCC offical website.

I hope this answers your question? I saw your PM, I will respond soon.

Hi Frank,

Please what do you recommend to be the most ideal margin between funds available for stay and cost of stay?
Frankrobbn1:

The form should be filled this way;

Tuition = 18,000$CAD
Room and Board = 10,000$CAD
Others = 3,000$CAD

Funds available for my stay = 31,000$CAD

Hi JustMellow,

Thank you so much for taking out time to give insight to my query.

JustMellow:

If I decipher correctly from the tone of your writing, you using a third party sponsorship which isn't bad given a show of commitment is already in place of your tuition fees already covered.

If as claimed I am right, you can get the person to transfer the funds into your account which certainly in my own opinion makes it much explainable and convincing.

On the other note, just try to get the person to build the account for such sponsorship purpose to sustain a sufficient balance because most times "family composition and other unfamiliar circumstances" are used by the VOs to scrutinize applications which in some scenario makes it infeasible for the VOs to assess the proof of funds on a sole standing reason evident in the inflow and outflow of an account.

Your best chance in beating the issues of financials is getting your sponsor to build the account and backing it up with one of the investment letter/certificate plus the evidence of your tuition fees and living expenses in your account

2 years+ of working experience in the finance industry
CFA Level 2 candidate
I like to think that my essay was MADDDDD!!!!!
I got the offer less than two hours after my Skype interview with the director of the program. I probably impressed him.

Above all, I thank God that I got into the school. I also thank God for this thread and everyone that contributes to help other people.

My advise to hopefuls based on my experience is this; when you are given a scholarship offer, you can take the risk and ask for more before accepting the admission. For example, I was initially given a scholarship offer of 13.7% off my tuition but I sent an email to the admission director explaining that my family had been saving money ahead of my grad studies but crude prices fell and the naira has lost about 60% of its value... something along these lines...

Long story cut short, they increased the offer they gave me by 30%.
Imagine I was scared and didn’t ask, that would have cost me the 30% increase in the scholarship they offered me.... is your fear worth 30% ? Hahaha

Goodluck guys!

Thanks for your reply...

So the way it works is that when my sponsor earns money, she usually just transfers the portion she wants to save to her mutual fund account (since that yields better interest as opposed to just keeping it in her bank account). So in terms of inflow and outflow, that is high. However the closing balance isnt much at all.

For more context, my tuition has already been covered 100%, the only money we are showing now is just for living expenses (my program is just for one year).

JustMellow:

Since the close amount is insufficient, I will assume also that the inflow and outflow won't be huge as due to the significance of the account been meant for only daily basic needs.

Its advisable your sponsor liquidate one of the investment to build the account for a sufficient balance enough to cover your first semester/year tuition fees plus living expenses as well your sponsor's family/personal needs.

All been said, the other investment certificate/document can be use to complement the bank statement for more financial credibility of proof of funds likewise also showing relevant documents that strongly shows "source(s) of funds"
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by sillysassysally(f): 7:28pm On Mar 09, 2019
Hi everyone,

Please I have a quick question to ask regarding proof of financial capacity;

My sponsor has the bulk of her money across different liquid investments (ranging from a Eurobond mutual fund (domiciled in USD) to investments in stocks. There is barely any money in her bank account apart from money used to run basic day-to-day expenses. Is she expected to liquidate her investments ahead of my application for a study permit?

P.S. Mutual funds take at most T+2 days to liquidate while stocks can be liquidated as soon as one is able to sell the shares they have.

See, I think everything depends on the peculiarity of the applicant. Some people may end up submitting certain unrequested documents that could raise questions/suspicions.

No one knows us better than we know ourselves. Each one of us knows the strengths and weaknesses of or application. For me, it is financial capacity - given that my tuition is about $50k. Hence it is my responsibility to go the extra mile in addressing it. If someone else has good SOA from a direct relative, that person may not have to really start submitting documents that weren’t asked for.

Naijaforeigner:

This is not always true and no one can say for sure if the number of documents submitted has any effect on processing times or whether it complicates things for applicants. Every application is unique.

For example, an applicant that has been delayed and got his/her GCMS note, he/she may want to address issues raised in the GCMS. Such an applicant can choose to go via paper route and then include more documents. I do not think it complicates things. I have seen first time applicants via paper route with plenty documents get approval within 5 weeks.

There are several factors that you haven’t mentioned in your analysis....

1. International passport
If you use the online route, you’d be with your international passport until you’re asked for it (this is advantageous for people who may have the need to use their international passports for one reason or the other

2. Delays
If you use the online route, you automatically save yourself some time because you don’t have to experience mail delivery delays... That time it’ll take to send your file from the VAC to Kenya... it could take weeks...

JustMellow:

It seems my emphasis is incomprehensible, now let's do a little comparison:

Online application

1. Gather relevant documents
2. Scan
3. Compressing stage(which might take several and tedious minutes/hours without loosing its quality esp for first time applicants who might not be IT imbued)
4. Spend funds(if one's in no prossession of a scanner or system, then requires the urgency of a cyber cafe)
5. The merging of documents to fit respective columns
6. Compressing again to get the actual 4MB file size without loosing its original quality
7. Uploading stage which is the easiest
8. Biometrics request after couple of days
9. An applicant have to travel for biometrics if the applicant does not stay in Lagos or Abuja(the cost of transportation also becomes part of the stress to that spent in the cafe)

Paper Route

1. Gather relevant documents
2. Travel for submission if an applicant stays outside Lagos or Abuja
3. Do biometrics upon submission
4. Link paper to online

The point here am trying to bring out here is: why still want to go through sure stress and process given the development that Kenya is in charge of both online and paper application when an applicant can just go submit to the VAC office directly without incurring additional stress and expenses.

It might seem less stressful after the first time though but last last, we own our opinion and choice!

You have to factor in the route one is using, alongside the peculiarity of the application. If the CIC website is saying that online route is faster, then it is.

JustMellow:

I don't think that statistics still holds any valid exactness in its entirety, if you follow the current situation of how applications was processed last year(2018), paper application was Usain Bolt against an online Yourne Blake.

The paper route saw faster of both rejections and approval when put in comparison. The online application was fast in 2017 when Ghana handled paper applications.

My observations though!
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by sillysassysally(f): 1:43pm On Mar 07, 2019
The online route is clearly better/faster than the paper route no?

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by sillysassysally(f): 12:52pm On Mar 07, 2019
What were the reasons for refusal and what did you do differently the third time?

Bracha:
Hello,

So sorry for all these refusals and delay. Those denials won't affect your chances of applying for a study permit again. I applied thrice, got denied twice and was given on the third attempt. So don't worry about that. Also, I don't think there are "African VOs". I think they are all Canadians living in African countries.

Good luck.
