It is up to you to decide if it is worth it...You need to genuinely justify the cost to yourself; Here are some questions you may want to ask yourself; 1. Is the program STEM 2. What's the placement/employment prospect of the program like 3. What's the ratio of the loan to your current earnings 4. What do you want to achieve post-program 5. What stage are you in your career With that said, I would encourage you to ask for more scholarship money before you accept the admission offer. Send a compelling email to the program director and create your case. This has worked for almost everyone I know that did it (Myself inclusive) temiie: |

I came across this post on LinkedIn and I thought to share. This is targeted at prospective MBA candidates or MS candidates in business school courses like finance or analytics. https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6516042331622379520/ This guy went to Stanford for his MBA (#1 MBA program in the world)... He’s still looking for a job. Read the comments and you’ll see many others (even with STEM MS) still job searching. Lots of people make it seem like the hustle ends once you’re able to get into a top program. No. That’s when it actually begins because getting into a top program doesn't guarantee you a job upon graduation. According to the Stanford guy “there’s a significant a gap between leads -> interest -> offer”. You’ll still have to work your ass off to secure a job. The best your degree does for you to give you access to networks, job postings, interviews, and whatnot, but It’s your responsibility to convert these accesses to a job. If you’re going to be using loans to finance your degree, it's even more tricky because you really need a job to pay off the loans... but then, getting the job isn't even certain... What then can you do? Make sure you have a strategy. 1. Don’t only focus on building a profile that’ll get you into a top school. Focus on building a profile that’ll land you your dream job after getting into you into a top school. You’d do yourself a lot of good if you can get relevant and recognizable working experience before going for your program (even if it’s a pre-experience program). Multinational experiences count well too. 2. Have a plan for your loans. Don’t over-leverage yourself because anything can happen. The only certain thing in life is uncertainty. I know of someone that planned on using loans to finance her MS in finance degree but upon arriving campus, she got a TA-ship role and was able to cancel her loan agreement (You actually have a window to reject any loan agreement – depends on the terms of the loan provider). 3. You may decide to take a non-conventional route to get your MBA. You could go for a Canadian PA (which is relatively easy to get), work for 3 years, earn good $ and then go for your US MBA (you may not even need the loans at this point). Then after your MBA, you're not stranded because you have Canadian papers... "We see better when we stand on the shoulders of those that have gone ahead of us" 5 Likes |

TRV processing time update 2/04/2019 BIG CONGRATS to those that have just gotten their approvals! We have a sample of 27 hopefuls! I would encourage those that have applied this year to share their timeline (with details such as; Application Route, whether you're a new or re-applicant, School Resumption Date, Application Date, Biometrics Request Date, Biometrics Done Date, Medical Request, Medicals Done, Medicals Passed, PPR or the Current Status of your application). If you don't have all this information, you can just share the ones that you have and update the rest as you receive it. This information would help us study or attempt to establish a pattern to how CIC operates. (Please note that the calculated estimates are just averages based on the little sample we have. Your processing time may be faster or slower than the average) For those that have already submitted their timeline, kindly share if you are a new applicant or a re-applicant. Also, please share when you are expected to resume school. This would help us understand if there is a relationship between processing time and resumption date. (Cc Oni2019, Yacha77, docsaj, Klem28, Trishaben, Omarzx, ify85, Samolala2019, umulobi, Oyalfares) Finally, If there is anything you think i should add to the data or calculate from the data or if there is a better way you think I can present the data, I am always open to suggestions. 1 Like

I think it would do us all a great deal of help if everyone that has gotten an approval can give us perspective on the uniqueness of their application, as well as the documents they submitted. Austacus: 3 Likes |

I came across this SOP guide online and thought to share… Credit goes to TAMWOOD CAREERS 1) Why do you wish to come to Canada to study at the school and in the program for which you have been accepted? 2) What is your overall educational goal? If this program of study is different from your past field of study, please explain why you made this change. 3) Is English your first language? If no, please provide full details of any qualifications obtained in English, providing documentary evidence of same. 4) Why have you chosen to study abroad? How does this course differ from similar courses available in your home country? 5) How will this program enhance your employment opportunities in your country of residence? Please specify exactly what you intend to do on completion of your proposed studies in Canada. 6) Have there been any gaps in time between your last period of study and now? If so, please specify exactly what you were doing during your break in studies. 7) How will you be paying for your studies? If someone other than your parents is assisting you, please identify their relationship to you and provide documentary evidence of their financial ability. What ties do you have to your country of residence that will encourage you to return following to your course of studies? 8 Likes 3 Shares |

Hey, thanks for the feedback but I don't think it would be accurate to assume that anyone whose biometrics reflects NA is a study permit re-applicant. It may be that they applied for a visiting visa in the past - which is why they didn't need to do their biometrics for a study permit. I think it's just better to be sure and confirm from everyone that has submitted their timeline. hardeholar1: |
