We know since this weekend, the two "big" candidates who will compete in the presidential election of February 2019. Muhammadu Buhari will represent the colours of the APC. He will face Atiku Abubakar, for the PDP. In the aftermath of the Congress of their political formations, the two staffs of the parties organize and clarify their program. Muhammadu Buhari, the outgoing president, focuses on the fight against corruption. This was already the theme of his campaign in 2015. A double-edged sword, since the opposition regularly claims to be a victim of a "witch hunt". "False" replies Festus Keyamo, one of Muhammadu Buhari's campaign spokesmen: " For 16 years, there has not been a single conviction following a trial. These procedures take time. It takes at least three years, between the initiation of an investigation and the holding of a trial. We have made great progress compared to previous teams. For example, the former governor of the state of Taraba found guilty of fraud; or the conviction for corruption against the former governor of the Plateau State". >>>> https://www.trendtopstories.com/2018/10/nigeria-presidential-candidates-refine.html

A local Boko Haram leader, Ali Gaga, was reportedly executed for treason by his own companions. According to the Nigerian press, his brothers-in-arms in the Islamic State's West Africa Province had discovered he was planning to surrender. He is the second jihadist leader who has been known to be executed for a month. Until recently, a trio headed the West African Province of Islamic State (Boko Haram). If number one, Abu Mossab al-Barnaoui, is still in place, his number two, Mamman Nur, would have been executed in August and his number three, Ali Gaga, last week. >>>>> https://www.trendtopstories.com/2018/10/nigeria-purges-at-head-of-boko-haram.html

n Cameroon, two years after the accident of a train that left 79 dead and more than 600 injured, 11 employees of Camrail were sentenced Thursday, September 27. A decision welcomed by the civil parties, who still regret the inequality of sentences between the defendants. Camrail, a subsidiary of the Bolloré Group, was sentenced for manslaughter and dangerous activities in the Eseka railway disaster case in October 2016. Eleven defendants, all employees of Camrail, were found guilty of the accident. which had left 79 dead and more than 600 wounded. A courageous decision for the lawyers of the many victims who took civil actions. The decision which also presents a certain number of limits according to them. Eleven of the 14 defendants were convicted of "dangerous activities and manslaughter". Among them, the former general manager of Camrail, Didier Vandenbon. But the railway company's executive was sentenced to only six months in prison, while the train driver was sentenced to five years in prison, the heaviest sentence in the trial. For the lawyer Guy Olivier Moteng, who defends ten victims, it is a double standard unfair. https://www.trendtopstories.com/2018/09/camrail-condemned-in-cameroon-mixed.html

Dr. Evan Atar Adaha was awarded the Nansen Award by UNHCR on Tuesday, 25 September, which recognizes "extraordinary help" for refugees. It is in the north of South Sudan, in a zone without infrastructure or electricity that Evan Atar Adaha has built a hospital from scratch and is ceaselessly treating the poor. RFI met him in Nairobi where he was passing before leaving for Geneva where he will receive his prize on October 1st. Humble and direct, Dr. Atar recounts his long nights of work at the Maban Hospital in the Upper Nile region. " I've had six Caesareans in one night before I get a man with a gunshot bullet," he recalls. And when I was done, I had to take care of an intestinal obstruction." More than 200,000 people benefit from the care of this hospital. They are mostly refugees from Blue Nile State, in neighbouring Sudan. This is where Dr. Atar worked until 2011 when conflict erupted after South Sudan's independence. The surgeon then follows thousands of refugees fleeing to the young country and begins operating in an abandoned health centre in the village of Bunj. In Zambia, criticism is growing against China's growing hold on the national economy. Despite denials from the government, some Zambians believe that the country's debt is skidding. This situation is partly due to the large loans contracted by the government from its Chinese partner. The lack of transparency of these economic agreements is regularly pointed out. The anti-Chinese sentiment is more and more perceptible in Zambia, whether to denounce the conditions of local workers employed by Chinese people or to worry about a future debt crisis in the country. Even if the government says otherwise, some members of the opposition are convinced that Zambian debt is exploding. China and its generous loans would be largely responsible for this situation, according to them. According to insistent rumours, the Chinese giant is even preparing to get hold of several public entities: including the national television, Lusaka airport and the public electricity company. Affirmations firmly denied by the government of Edgar Lungu. Source >>>>>> https://www.trendtopstories.com/2018/09/zambia-increased-criticism-of-chinas.html

In Diffa, in southeastern Niger, the mother of a deputy and her daughter have just returned to their homes after being released by their captors against the payment of ransom. The old lady's son, a deputy, had to pay for the raid demanded by the bandits hidden in the islands of Lake Chad. The old lady and her daughter were released after a dozen days in the hands of their captors, hidden somewhere in the vast bed of Lake Chad, an area controlled by Boko Haram elements. In view of the remoteness of their hideout and impassable roads during this rainy season, a horse was put at the disposal of the two hostages to bring them back to Diffa. This release, confirmed by the governor of the region Mahamadou Bakabe, is a dangerous precedent said, a good business according to a security source. In fact, several other anonymous cases of kidnapping have been the subject of ransom payments. >>>>>>> https://www.trendtopstories.com/2018/09/niger-two-women-hostages-released-for.html

The pressure shows a notch on Donald Trump. His former campaign manager has reached an agreement with the court and agrees to cooperate with prosecutor Mueller's investigation into Russia's presumed interference in the 2016 presidential election. In exchange for a reduced sentence in his trial for Tax evasion and money laundering, Paul Manafort pleads guilty to conspiracy against the United States and obstruction of justice. It's a difficult day for Mr. Manafort, but he accepts his responsibility to protect his family. A terse statement from his lawyer Kevin Downing. A spectacular turnaround after weeks of refusal, observes our correspondent in the United States, Eric de Salve. Paul Manafort finally agrees to cooperate in the investigation into the alleged collusion of Donald Trump's campaign team with Russia. A major decision for the special prosecutor, because the person potentially the best informed on the subject could now deliver compromising information. In Nigeria, the incumbent president is officially a candidate for his own succession. Unsurprisingly, Muhammadu Buhari submitted his candidacy for his party's primary school, scheduled for the end of September, for which he is the only candidate. Round glasses, looking in the air, it is a dubious Muhammadu Buhari who was photographed at the Congress of Progressive Congress, APC, Wednesday, with his declaration of interest in his hands. At least twenty Rwandan refugees this week received their passports from their country and their residence permits. These are their local integration documents issued eight months after the entry into force of the cessation clause. South Africa is moving towards recognition of Muslim marriage. In any case, that is what the Western Cape High Court ruled Friday, August 31st. Justice gives the South African Parliament two years to legislate and allow almost 1 million South African Muslims to enjoy the same rights as other citizens in the event of divorce.
